Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread

Was hoping for some kind of significant VC announcement. GBA games, the Oracle games, anything. After they bragged about how successful the eShop has been, I'm surprised they didn't have anything noteworthy to say they had put up on it after launching with Link's Awakening and making a big deal about it at last year's conference.

Also, that bald guy leading the conference... I don't believe for a second he actually plays videogames. He had the most awkward way of speaking, it reminded of the G-Man from Half Life 2. Terrible choice to do that presentation.

Definitely this. I feel bad for the guy as I am certainly no great public speaker myself. But while he spoke well enough and clearly enough, there was just something off about him. In contrast, the guy who did the demos was much more at ease and easier to listen to.

And yeah, I didn't know about the Scribblenauts game so I'm somewhat interested in that. The only problem is I still have yet to play Super Scribblenauts. I actually find it hard to get too excited about any new games because I have so many I want to play. I'd almost rather the game industry just took a year off ;).

KingBroly - you mean every puzzle piece for every puzzle, including the new ones? It seems I just recently got new puzzles with much smaller pieces in them and don't have any pieces for some of those. But then again, the only streetpass I ever get is from my son's 3DS.

Yes, all 385 Puzzle Pieces are now mine.

Going to the Zelda Concert in Atlanta last month got me nearly all of those Pink Pieces.

That is exactly what I always say! I want them to take a year-long break so I can finally catch up on some games before new stuff comes out, and I'd also like to think we might get some higher-quality stuff in that time frame. Developers churn out games like crazy these and everything feels the same. But that's a discussion for another time and place, I suppose.

I'm super excited for Scribblenauts because it's something different (and the previous games were amazingly fun for me). I'm a little nervous about all of the changes, but I'm still looking forward to seeing how it all works. I would actually like to see Pushmo taken in a similar direction. It's a great game on its own, but I think it would be even better if they made it into a platformer. Given the way it plays already, I think it would work very well.

Anyway, you should definitely check out Super Scribblenauts as soon as possible. It's a vast improvement over the first game and it provides hours of wacky and imaginative fun. And it doesn't take long at all, even if you play through it twice.

I would have loved for them to tease a top-down Zelda. 3DS lineup looks really solid though.

Also, does anyone know exactly how the demos work? Is it 30 playthroughs or 30 times launching the software? Can it be deleted and redownloaded for 30 more tries? My son asks me every morning how many days until Lego Batman 2 and this morning he flipped out when I showed him the demo. I don't want him to blow through it in 3 days though since he won't be getting LB2 (on the 360) until his birthday in July.

it's 30 plays, when the screen prompts you to continue it counts towards your 30 plays. If you play for 30 secs then shut down that's 1 or 30, if you play to the end of the demo that's 1 play. I've never played all 30 times but I do know you can delete anything you downloaded in the settings menu...nor have i ever tried to redownload a demo.

think of it has having 30 quarters at the arcade, no matter how long you spend playing w/one quarter start to finish, you only get 30 tries the moment the quarter drops into the machine. (i.e. you agreeing to continue from the prompt screen)

Limiting demos is still so dumb to me.
They should have at least made you pay with 3DS coins once you get to the limit to play again. That'd be kind of neat.

That... is a darned good idea.

I kind of get the demo limit, even if it is only there to force you to delete things every so often.

It is stupid but you can kind of see their point - after 30 tries you should know whether you want to buy it or not. The problem is that kids can play through demos a ton and not get sick of it. I like the idea of being able to "buy" additional play throughs - maybe for every 1,000 steps you get another try?

I understand why they limit demos, but you have to remember they set the bar insanely high for these limits.

Also, LOVE the pay with Play Coins to get the limit raised again idea.

if i could download and play demos indefinitely along with the ability to play flash games on my 3DS, it would spend even less on my pedometer of a 3DS device. Cause that's about all I use it for until since nintendogs went on sale for like $9.99.

The only thing I wanted was some news on VC games so I was bummed. I can't believe they still don't have GBA games outside of the ambassador stuff.

I have been thinking about getting a 3DS and I have about 140 bucks on a best buy gift card which means i can get a 3DS and three games this week for about only a 100 bucks but Im not entirely sold and am wondering if i should just preorder some games with the 140 i got or just get the 3DS a lot of the games look interesting and I really dont see a price drop or a redesign until next year and i Really Really wanna play Kingdom hearts when it comes out so what you guys think go for it or not, also if i do get it I know I am gonna definatly get Zelda and prob Resident Evil Revelations but what third game would you guys recommend, thanks for your guys feedback

Are there any punctuation games for the 3ds i think you could really use some help with that maybe if there is a good one you could get that to round out your three games of course you are actually spending 140 credit and 100 cash so you probably should think about it in that way instead of just pretending that the 140 is not worth anything

Seriously, though, I have really enjoyed mario 3D land and mario kart 7.

There are a lot of other games I want to play on 3DS like Kid Icarus, Mario Kart, MArio Land, and a few others, I know I will prob get a #DS no matter what, meaning now or later, im just wondering if now is the best time since its on sale for 160 atm at BB and they r doing the buy 2 get 1 game free thing and i get what ur saying about the credit and granted there are some ps3 games i want but more then likly id prob buy them anyways so I guess my real question is do you see this been a good enough deal to justify getting it right now or should I wait, (Btw I work at walmart and can promise you ill be working on black friday so telling me to wait and pickup a black friday bundle or something wouldnt work since they would all be gone by time i got off in the morning lol)
You can transfer them.
pretty sure the ambassador games are Hooked to the 3ds and Can not be transfer that is what the 800 line said .... one of the few things that cant not be transfer

also for the person looking for a cheap 3ds system... Check ebay.. I won 2 of them dirt cheap

both still under warranty from nintendo (since they give you a one year warranty)

i won
system with 5 games 165 mario land3d, mario kart 7, RE, nano, star fox 3d (fipped it 175 and kept 2 game

System with 3 games 130 tales of abyess chrono and world ends (sold off world for 30) so like getting system with 2 games for 100 and under warranty till June 2013

just an idea to get a cheaper 3ds

EDIT wow just flipping though ebay almost all of the cheap systems are way gone

I think the only stuff that can't transfer is the Street Pass stuff, i.e. Plaza Miis, Mii Maker Stuff, Puzzle Pieces, Find Mii progress. Then again, I might be wrong about that because I've never transferred stuff before.

Im not whoever you are talking about I have used CAG for a while to find deals and stuff i have just never posted before and now I ask for serious opinions and older CAGs do nothing but troll or make jokes this is exactly why i never posted because time and time again i see new people post and get shunned. Really makes no sense why but whatever

I enjoy Street Pass so much that that would almost be a deal-breaker for me if a new model came out and I wanted to upgrade. I'm sure they could do a firmware update to allow that stuff to transfer, too, assuming it doesn't already.

Don't take it personally. To slidecage's credit, while people do poke fun, from what I've seen he ignores them and continues to post, and then it doesn't matter.

But on the same note, I don't believe it's a matter of veteran CAGs vs newbies but just a preference for punctuation and clear communication. You can call that elitist if you like, but I don't think it's trolling. I'm a bit of a writer myself and tend to become irked over minor grammar or spelling errors, while others don't care at all.

I recently got the purple 3ds, I wanted this color from the start and was sad when it wasn't a launch color. The only thing that didn't transfer for me were the downloaded games and their save files, so I had to redownload and restart my pokedex and all the free ambassador games. Miis and everything else seem to have transferred, at least I haven't noticed anything missing.
I wish I could get more pink pieces for my puzzles.
I wish I could get more pink pieces for my puzzles.
That's the problem I'm running into. Three or four puzzles only need pink pieces now. I'm over 250 pieces and show a total of 330-something, so I'm missing some panels.

Yeah, I too am in dire need of pink pieces. The majority of mine come from Target and I'm only able to get out there on weekends (and that's if we don't have other plans). A kid next-door (of maybe a friend/relative of his) has a 3DS, but he never set up Street Pass.

Conventions or the Zelda Concerts. That's how I got most of mine :) Or random Gamestop employees.

But yeah, they should stop the 40-piece puzzles because they suck for Pink Pieces.

It transfers everything.
The new 3DS becomes pretty much identical to the original.

I need one of those to come here. I usually get one a week if I'm lucky and I almost always have my 3DS with me. I'll be going on a trip to Cali in 11 days, hopefully get some at the airport at least.

I think the closest one to you will be in Chicago, but that's still quite a way to travel. It's still something I highly recommend though, since it's just a love fest for Nintendo fans.

It's a thought but I don't drive and have no easy access to a car and usually don't have money for a plane trip.

Finally got one! Between the lack of an e3 announcement about a redesign, Sony's utter lack of anything about the Vita, and Target's $20 giftcard, I decided to pull the trigger.

Off to download old gameboy games!

I think I'll keep my DSiXL around for DS games but I'm about to transfer all my DSiware stuff to the 3ds.

Welcome aboard! You definitely dodged a bullet by getting 3DS instead of Vita. Vita is a great handled, but most of the games for it are terrible (much worse launch than 3DS) and it has an annoying interfacing. And I sometimes wonder why they even included buttons 'cause most of the games and apps are touchscreen-only. My Vita was free and I still kinda regret getting it. Hopefully things will start looking up by the end of the year.

the 3ds was pure junk the first 6 months people seem to all about forgotten it..

ALSO im going to be returning my DSI XL with 2 year warranty to best buy in a few weeks to get a new one (system has been having problems for the last 3 months but i had to wait to get a 3ds cheap to transfer the games on it (since you cant transfer the games to another XL)

Point is i STILL have 1400 pts on it .. (since POINTS CANT TRANSFER)

Can anyone recommend any GOOD games on the DSIWERE side

thinking
Curling Super Championship 500
Devil Band - Rock the Underworld 200

that will still leave me 700 pts for one more 500 pt game and one 200 pt game

hopefully

conquest 2 comes out by the end of the month that would only leave me 200 pts to worrry about

There is absolutely no way the 3DS launch was better than the Vita launch when it comes to games, I don't know how anyone can actually believe that. Obviously at this point in each system's life the 3DS has a better library and after E3 there's no reason to think that's going to change anytime soon but to say it had a better launch is crazy talk.

The 3DS launch wasn't great of course, but there was a small handful of enjoyable games (hell, the device itself kept me busy for a couple of hours before I even put a game in it). I'm still waiting on the Vita to get something halfway decent. I'll be buying Escape Plan soon, though, so maybe that will help breathe some life into the poor thing.

So what exactly are you doing with a Vita then, if it's so awful? And apparently it has "no games"?! SMH. Sounds like you are drinking the kool aid and I borderline doubt you even own a Vita.

I have no intention of getting rid of my Vita. Saying that I regret it is a bit of an exaggeration on my part. I may be disappointed with it, but it's still a great little device; it just doesn't have any really good games yet. There is a decent racing game (Asphalt: Injection), but I'm not too keen on playing that on a handheld.

Not that it matters, but you can check one of the old Pick Ups threads for pictures of my Vita. I can't imagine the point in lying about having one. And what am I doing with a Vita? I wanted one. It's a great size, it has cool features, and I was able to get it without having to pay any money out of pocket, so I got it. At the time, the games for it looked good, but that has turned out to not be the case so far. Maybe you think the games are amazing and that's just fine, but it's not how I feel.

It's humorous that you mention Asphalt: Injection, a game many folks disliked. I have no opinion, since I don't own it. I guess I am just curious as to what you are basing your opinions on when it seems you've only played one (supposedly mediocre) game on the console. Saying it has no "good games" just screams someone trying to instill "FUD". Especially when you claim the 3DS had "a small handful of enjoyable games" at launch. The Vita didn't?! Come on...

So I'm playing through Zelda on the 3DS right now. I haven't played it in a few years now and I thought I just wouldn't enjoy it as much as I remember it in my head because of the horrible N64 textures and outdated controls but god damn - there is more creativity and awesomeness in the Forest Temple than 99.9% of all games ever created or will ever come into existence. Every inch of this game is so well thought out and I'm sure you could write a master's thesis on game design and only talk about OoT and fucking nail it. It's so so so great. Nintendo, give me Majora's Mask so I can hand you money, please.
