Nintendo Announces Multimedia Player for GBA/SP/DS

i think there have been third party stuff like this available for a long time though. i remember seeing something like this on ebay, it enabled u to play mp3's on ur gba, not sure about video. i think its name was songpro.

You only have to look a couple threads down to know about the GBA Movie Player. I was thinking of getting that, but with this coming out in a few months, I might just wait.

 At least you had the courage to say it, unlike the rest of us.

hehehe I wonder if Majesco's mad that this may cut into their GBAvideo market.

Though personally my feeling is the screen is too small to really enjoy movies on. I bought a GP32 for videos because the screen was much larger and had standard TV resolution (which the GBA dosent have) so if I decide to view videos on anything else it'd have to have a larger screen.

I wonder if we'll be able to use the touch screen;)

Interesting, but if it only has MPEG-4 support for videos that will be a bit limiting. I like the idea of using SD cards though. Now if the GBA could only have a TV tuner like the Game Gear did.

Memory stick is a Propreitary Sony media, they could get rights to use it if they wanted to but you could say they probably have an obvious reason not to. :p Though since both this and the PSP use MP4 video, it would have been nice to interchange media. :D

SecureDigital is a decent format though, many digital cameras and MP3 players use it. Circuit city was just having a sale on Sd cards 512mb for 40 bucks after rebate, I think CompUSA has a similar deal going.

I wonder how it compairs to the current GBA movie player 2. I just oredered one from lik-sang. Also that ones uses Compact Flash and I think it's cheaper then SD cards.

I'd like to see how much it costs and how good it is.

EDIT:

Ok I just did some research and it seems that it will have better video quality then the current GBA movie player. It seems to have it's own processor to decode the mpeg movies. The GBA movie player uses the GBA to decode the video so that's why the video isn't that great.

I'm sure it will be more then the 25 bucks the GBA movie player costs since it has it's own hardware to improve video quality.

Nintendo Introduce Play-Wan

Handheld (GBA, DS & PSP)MP3/MPEG4 player heading to the GameBoy Advance SP and Nintendo DS

Presumably as a means to reflect some of the attention away from the multi-media functions of the Sony PSP, Nintendo Japan today confirmed plans to release an MP3/MPEG4 player for the GameBoy Advance SP.

Dubbed the “Play-Yan”, the piggy-back peripheral slots into the cartridge slot of the GameBoy Advance SP and allows SD-Cards, featuring movies and music, to be slotted into the side. SD-Cards capable of storing up to 1GB retail for around $72, which should allow for MPEG-4 feature-length movies to fit easily onto the card, or around 300 MP3 songs.

The Play-Yan is set for release across Japan during February 2005 and will retail for 5,000 yen ($47.73); no word yet as to when those outside of Japan can expect to get the hands on this little gem, whilst compatibility with the Nintendo DS is believed to feature, although this has yet to be officially confirmed.

I thought that was the TurboDuo.

no thanks...i gave the current multimedia player a go for the sp and i havent used it in months....i can do all this on my ngage for free

This actually sounds pretty cool. I cant wait to hear more about it.

That would be really cool.

Now we can all watch Final Fantasy: Advent Children on the DS :p . I 'm wondering now wether I should just stick with the DS and get this, or if I should get a PSP as well and just "stick with the stick". Both the stick and card seem a bit expensive if you want some real storage, but I guess the convenience of having it in a all-in-one unit is worth it.
