I have a question for those with experience of following eshop pricing with prior nintendo consoles. Do the regular prices of games eventually come down in price? Not really asking about 1st party games. Mainly the indie ones. Again, I am asking about the regular prices, not the sale price.

Is this game worth picking up? I’ve had my eye on it, but the reviews are all over the place. I’ve got some Best Buy gift cards to combine with my GCU. I enjoy all types of JRPGs, last one to really hook me was Persona 5.

It's pretty great if you like JRPGs. The game is very long though. But sounds like you are okay with that if you are playing persona 5.

It's the best RPG that I've played in a decade or more. I enjoyed every hour I put into the game without feeling the weight of those hours grind. It still surprises me that I've put over 160 hours into it (about 60 after finishing it). The Characters, open world,side mission variety, battle engine, npc's, ... it's just a great experience. It's not terribly dark and moody or twisted. I'd put it up there with one of my top games of my life as a gamer (35+ years). I'd put it up there with Zelda and Mario Odyssey for best game on the Switch. If you have a strong interest get it. I was mildly interested and got it during the 20% off preorders with prime (ah, the old days)... so glad I did that. I think at this point all the technical issues have long since been patched... so old reviews won't talk about how improved it is.

As mentioned above, you may find it worth it if you liked P5. I put 300 hours into XC2, and I'm about 100 hours into P5 now. Both made me like JRPGs again, after a few years off.
 
Thanks for all the replies. I’m even more tempted to pick it up now, but I’m really bad at hoarding RPGs and not finishing them. I still need to finish octopath and I’ve started dragon quest XI too, I think I need an intervention. Haha.
 
I’ve been playing Octopath more than I thought I would thanks to the portability of the switch. I enjoyed the demo enough to buy it during the target coupon glitch back in July. It’s an old school JRPG at heart, i’d recommend the demo first just in case.
As far as Dragon Quest XI goes, I’ve only played for an hour or two, so basically I’m still in the opening credits. By the time my wife gives up the tv it’s late and the soundtrack to the game puts me to sleep while playing. It’s by no means a boring game, but it’s great to unwind to after a long day. Here is a 30min review that convinced me to add it to my RPG pile.

I finished XC2 and couldn’t put it down. I consider it a must buy for any RPG fan.
I didn’t put a lot of time into Octopath yet but loved what I’ve played. Completely different experience. It really reminds me of the snes era rpg.
I no longer have a PS4 but am extremely excited about DQ XI coming to the switch eventually.
 
Even after the telltale news, it appears season 2 of batman telltale- the enemy within will be released on the eshop next month. Oct 12 appears to be the date listed?
I was really hoping for a cartridge version like season 1.

I wonder now if a bundle is out of the question?

If you have any interest in batman and telltale games, I would highly recommend that you get it!
I finished them all on the Xbox and plan to get them on the switch as well.

Gotta say, I've been a fan of the series since I was a kid, sitting on the living room floor playing Dragon Warrior with the guide and map in front of me. Fond memories of sneaking out of bed, playing by the glow of the TV.

But I had planned to wait on DQXI til a sale, because of my backlog. But after seeing this review by Tim Rogers (who has loved the series as long as I have), I made it a point to plow through two games and buy it at launch.

...I have a standing rule that if I want to buy a game at launch, I have to complete two games from my backlog first.

Octopath is a very pretty and grindy game. I liken the story style to the second of FFVI in which each character has their own plot with minimal input from other party members. The path actions and the combat are interesting, but they’re never expanded upon or used creatively.

DQXI is very much like the others but incredibly polished. It is definitely eye candy if you like the art style.
 
Awesome thanks for the DQXI and Octopath feedback everyone. I think I'll wait for Switch version of DQXI, maybe Octopath if I get to it before then.
 
Octopath is a wonderful throwback to the old Snes RPG days, If you loved that era.. 99% sure you will love Octopath.

Didn't care for Octopath. The graphics and battle engine was good but I tend to dislike RPG's where the world is very linear and path based. Octopath didn't change my mind on this either. I also found the story elements somewhat moronic, though they were at least fresh for the genre. Play the demo for free and you should have your answer.

DQ is my absolute favorite RPG series since the first one on NES. I love the main series and the vast majority of spinoffs. I still play the old original games from time to time. I'm waiting on DQ XI S (that's the new name of it, S is supposed to mean "Special") to release on Switch before getting the game.

 
So Batman the enemy within gets a release date for the switch. I wonder if that's just an eshop download or does anyone know if the cartridge has been made just like the first one?

Yeah tried the demo, thats why i'm still on the fence. Kinda liked it.. but not a whole lot.

Kinda hoping someone would come on and say the game gets better past the demo area etc.

Game looks like something i'd enjoy, but the demo just didn't grab me.  I'll just have to break down and watch some play-though vids or something.

That’s a lot of research for $8. Since most meals cost more than that I would say pull the trigger and give it a shot. It’s not for me. Besides Diablo, I feel these games are multiplayer only and I got no wizards on me couch.
 
The Nine Parchments demo did nothing for me. It was an easy pass.

See, I'd say the opposite, if you aren't that sure of something then skip it and save that $8 towards a game you really are excited to get and play. Buying something you feel "meh" about just because you love the genre is a waste. It's like buying an $8 meal from a place youv'e already tried the samples and you didn't like any of them, but you go ahead and order a meal because it's just $8 and that's what you'd spend on a digital game so why not. Me, I'd find somewhere else to eat.

 
I agree if you’re not 100% into it then pass and avoid the remorse but if he’s going to commit to gameplay video research and time is money, just use that time to buy it. In how he feels about it, it’s more like him trying the samples, they were good not great, but he wants to watch other people eat the samples and see how they react before eating there. In the end it’s $8. If you’re grousing over that then best to save your money.

Not necessarily eShop related, but anyone playing Dragalia Lost? Seems relatively fun, in the beginning. Was disappointed my first tenfold summon didn't yield anything above 3-star characters.

 
If you like shmups or bullet hell type games you seriously need to pick up Steredenn binary stars. It has multiple ships to unlock, hidden bosses, and a great soundtrack. It is a rogue like, so each run is different, but it has that “one more try” feel to it. Also has a boss rush mode and a daily challenge mode too. $3.89 is a steal!

I enjoy it both docked and handheld. it has unlockable characters with different abilities, tons of bizarre powerups, great music, and plays like nes zelda and smash tv. the levels are generated every playthrough, unique daily challenges, and it saves state when you close the game. i highly recommend it.
