I was not impressed with NSMB on Switch.  I got it at launch and something about the game just doesn't keep pulling me back for more.  I kind of play it just to play it and get through it, not because it's hard for me to put down.  I'm only on world 6 and haven't touched it in over a month.  I can't really put words to as to why but there is something missing from the game that I loved on previous side scrolling mario games.

I also did not realize that the "Luigi" game was basically the "Mario" game with alt levels.  I thought it was a completely new game, and the way they marketed it was a bit misleading in my opinion.  But I guess it was my fault for not doing more research.

Yeah, the entire NSMB series feels very sterile to me and NSMBU was one game (well, two now I guess) too many. I never felt any desire to go back and replay levels or look for secrets. There's some good level design to be found but the art and presentation is just to bland. I hope we've seen the last of the series. 2D Mario games can do better.

I agree, I bought NSMBU at launch on the Wii U, and I never finished it. Just so...bland. I never got the DLC, but who knows if that would've made it more enjoyable.

Just a heads up to anyone that is interested. I bought Timberman for 19 coins the other day and I was browsing the eshop over the weekend and noticed that Hard West was $13.39 on discount and they game just was released this week.

I looked into it today and I think this is a discount I received because I purchased Timberman and its from the same publisher. It is the only game I have purchased from this publisher. If you bought any games from Forever Entertainment, they have a lot of cheap games on the eshop like Timberman, Violet, Millie, Frederic etc. you maybe eligible for a nice discount on Hard West.

I'm not sure what I did, but I just got Super Mario Party added to my Best Buy cart somehow while it was still listed as "coming soon" the order went through fine, and I received a code. I honestly can't remember what I did earlier in the day to have this happen.  Just an FYI that all hope is not lost.

I had odyssey in the cart from yesterday and I was able to purchase just fine today. I'd like to be able to buy super mario party though.

Has anyone tried doing an order through the customer service phone number? They might not have the blocks that the website has.

Would anyone recommend Super Mario Party if I would be almost exclusively playing it by myself? I really wish it had full online multiplayer.

I bought it just for the possibility of vacations with family members. Youtube videos of the minigames look really fun.

I mentioned before that when I played through Defense Grid 2 that I had a number of bugs/issues with it and Hidden Path released an update that seems to address all of the major issues I had:

I put a $20 code on my account on my Wii U, but it's still not letting me buy any games because I don't have room to immediately download them. The proceed to purchase button keeps sending me to a screen that says there is not enough free space available. Then, it's telling me to go to the Data Management in System Settings screen and delete some software, and that's not what I want to do. Am I missing something here?

This is the reason why I stopped making eShop purchases way back in 2017 - Nintendo and its bass-ackwards processes. Microsoft and Sony let me buy anything I want, and they don't give a damn about whether or not I actually download the games.

Edit: I was able to do it via the website. SMH.

That’s weird. Maybe there’s a setting for automatic downloads? I could swear I bought games right on the console before I even added memory to have enough room for more stuff. Sorry.

And I might have overreacted. Thanks for your original response. To be clear, I'm not angry with you, but it just seems like Nintendo likes to do anything it can to make buying and/or enjoying its products as difficult as possible. When I Googled the problem, I found that other people had run into the same problem, but since hardly anyone bought the Wii U, it wasn't a widely reported issue.

I'm planning to buy an external hard drive for it and one of those Y-cables to hook it up as soon as I can, but since there's no telling how long the Wii U eShop will continue to be a thing, I figured that I'd better buy those games at those prices.

Here's my haul:

Assassin's Creed III - $5

Assassin's Creed IV - $5

Inside My Radio - $1.99

Letter Quest - $2.99

Splinter Cell: Blacklist - $5

And I might have overreacted.
No, you didn't, as "N" is about as ass backwards as it gets. They have made some HUGE strides forwards in recent years, as their region free option for the NS seems top shelf, but for every great 2 steps forward, there will always be 3 more going back. This is just how they operate, and just like you, I've had to look up stuff online just to try to do basic things, only to be more confused after researching is done.

It is what it is, and why the Wii U was the first "N" system in my life I didn't buy at launch, and that trend has continued with the NS. And this is after having been a fan since the Game & Watch days. There are just to many great games and offerings across all platforms, for me to have to fight for scraps and pay a tax just to play on a "N" device.

If Nintendo is Paula Abdul, I guess that I'm MC Skat Kat.

Anyone else passing on NSMBU Deluxe?  I'm at the final boss in DKC: Tropical Freeze, and the game has been amazing.  Every comparison video I see makes NSMBU look very bland in comparison to not just DKC, but other Mario games.  I've played several levels of it on the Wii U, but never owned the game myself.  I'm thinking of just waiting for Mario Maker 2.

I bought it yesterday because I was at Best Buy with a bunch of credit, but this morning I was like how did I buy that when I didn’t finish DKCTF as good as it was.

From what I remember of it, the New Super Luigi U portion of it is the best stuff because they get weird, wild, and challenging with conventional New SMB design that the rest of the New SMB games didn't really do. I didn't even beat NSMBU, but did beat NSLU for what that's worth. Thinking about it made me look up my old review of it from six years ago and that's exactly what I said about it back then. Probably not worth $40 for just that part of the game, but it's worth checking it out on Wii U if you still have that since the physical version just has that game so you can jump right in for a bit cheaper.

After playing quite a bit of Super Mario 3D World... I found NSMB-U to be quite refreshing.  I didn't care much for the original NSMB but U was good enough that I opted to upgrade to the Swtich version.  The Luigi content is solid fun... but the regular levels seemed more fun to me than SM3D World.

Thoughts on Yooka Laylee for Switch? I've been wanting it and this is right about my sweet spot. But wanted some opinions on this prior to buying.

Has anyone played Romancing Saga 2? Not sure if it is worth the $12.50
It's pretty rough around the edges. The game itself is a little dated, and it's the mobile port, so it plays rather jankily. If you must play through every game Square-Enix have ever put out, it probably won't get any cheaper than that. But personally, I bought it, played it for a train ride, and found it too frustrating to play again.

There are just to many great games and offerings across all platforms, for me to have to fight for scraps and pay a tax just to play on a "N" device.
ur right, i stopped any launch systems because of upgrades or support, got a switch a year after but its still mostly indie and 1st party heavy as n refuses 64gb carts or bigger and lack of capability compared to sony and microsoft who both upgrade to be closer to pc for better gaming instead of gimmick based as "new", well i havent even touched my ps4 since sonys new policy and the other two i go back and forth with, if a game comes out its xbox first, then switch, and never sony when its an option, like buying scarlet for the switch

I just picked up that Golf Peaks game that game out today.  It is like a little puzzle golf game and it was only $5 so I said eh, why not.

what new sony policy are you talking about?

Thoughts on Earthlock?
I dont recall seeing that on sale (I only saw some square games) so if there's more then I take back what I said. But I actually have earthlock on steam but havent played enough to give you a real opinion. I didnt hate it tho, it just obviously wasnt great enough for me to finish in one sitting. so many games.

Yea, I think it popped up on sale for $13 something a bit after everything else went live. Seems to be getting decent reviews. The art style looks kind of meh to me though.

Is there a method to Nintendo sale end dates?

I bought Wheel of Fortune late last night from the website since I kinda remembered seeing the end date while browsing the shop on the console but I didn't see an end date on the shop website itself. Is there a way to tell on just the website when the sale ends?

You have to use the corresponding console to see when the sales on that platform end. The OP here keeps track of them, as well.

Earthlock is an alright by the book JRPG, with some interesting new ideas, I think it would've been helped to have voice over, but they didn't put that in.

Only jrpg on that sale worth the price is i am setsuna
IMHO Setsuna is overrated. Easy and repetitive combat, monotonous setting and music. The idea behind the story is interesting...and better executed in total by Octopath (different scale and not on sale - just saying).

My two cents. To each their own.

People will like Setsuna more if they have Chrono Trigger nostalgia.

I appreciated the music because they stuck to a pretty interesting motif - every track is a solo piano piece.  Some of them are beautiful, others fall flat (especially a certain jaunty/annoying world map theme).  But at least it's creative and different.

I love Chrono Trigger and I Am Setsuna basically having the same combat system but nothing else about it that compares well to Chrono Trigger (story, music, characters, charm) is the thing that kills it for me. It's fine as a by-the-numbers JRPG that I can mindlessly play, but they shouldn't be aiming to ape such an amazing game if they can't back it up. Oninaki looks like them finding their own mark to make on the genre rather than just making lesser clones like the hundreds of indie JRPGs on Steam but with a bigger budget.
