Let's be honest... Popolocrois didn't bomb because of it's name.  It had very bad reviews and was boring as  fuck .  In the time since the first Harvest Moon we've had many many new inventions/ideas that incorporate far more into a game.  Rune Factory, Fantasy Life, Animal Crossing have all had innovations.  Popolocrois seemed like a reversion rather than a innovation.

If I were to describe the game in one word it would be "Eh...."

game is awful ..very easy and awful ..though i just picked it up from gamefly for 15 after using 10 gamefly buck that expired cause had nothing else to spend them on.

And it seems that Story of Seasons was the better old school farming game by all accounts.

I never read any "very bad reviews". Looking on metacritic now, in fact, the lowest critic review (out of 27) is a 6/10. All in all, reviews weren't really any better or worse than the first game under the new title, and it was XSeeds fastest-selling game ever (and topped the Japan charts when it released there).

Edit: Popolocrois debuted at #2 on the Japanese charts, though admittedly, it didn't really have much competition at the time, and still didn't really come close to the previous game's sales (Popolocrois also cost ~25% more).

Japan had some new SNES on N3DS titles announced: Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Kirby's Dream Course, Super Mario Kart, and Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

Also, there is a Mario-themed pack coming to Minecraft Wii U on the 17th.

Oh man, a Fire Emblem title I've never played! I guess the chances are slim to none that they would port this game for the US market and slim just left the building?

 
WTF am I reading. Return to Popolocrois is not a bad game. It's pretty much an old school feel good JRPG. The problem with the game is that it's easy as fuck. Makes sense that people who trash talk it are the otaku type that get hyped over any games with waifus and shit.

Tell you what, if they localize it, I'll buy you a copy. Also, if you've played Shadow Dragon (DS), then you've already played half of Mystery. It was a remake of the first game (of which Shadow Dragon is also a remake) that also included an entirely new campaign that continued the plot (think Path of Radiance -> Radiant Dawn). The second half of Mystery was actually remade on the DS, as well, but only in Japan, though there's a completed fan translation floating around the internet.

On May 17, the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack comes to Minecraft: Wii U Edition as a free game update. After downloading the update, players who own the Minecraft: Wii U Edition digital game, which launched last December, will have immediate access to new skins, a Super Mario-themed pre-made world and a set of Super Mario-themed music and item textures. All this new content is inspired by games in the iconic Super Mario series, such as Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. When the retail version of Minecraft: Wii U Edition launches in stores on June 17 at a suggested retail price of $29.99, the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack will be included on the disc.

I honestly think the people who dislike Return to PopoloCrois the most are the ones who expected it to be like Rune Factory. So, instead of appreciating it for being a charming (but easy) PS1-style RPG with an optional farming minigame, they're disappointed because the farming happens to be shallow. But, it's sort of like being disappointed with a Zelda game that has fishing because they were expecting it to be more like a Legend of the River King game. For me, it's one of the better 3DS games, but I get not everyone likes it.

Anyway, I'm still sore that Mystery of the Emblem never got localized. Especially since I'm not happy with the new direction Fire Emblem went in. I'll have to check out the fan translation (thanks for the heads-up) along with the one for Chibi-Robo: Clean Sweep.

Ahem...

If you read what I said.. specifically, it was that it was a meh game for what it was. But with all the innovations to the genre is was a DEFINITE regression. Which is, seemingly, what the people above also said.

That being said I don't necessarily go back and jones for MUDs nowadays when I can have a MMO. I also don't play PS1 type games when there's so much better to be had. Especially at the exact same pricepoint. If you want an old-y game... then go indie. It's a quarter the price and you don't feel like you got bent over for spending some bucks.

On another note, should I get Return to Popolocrois if I hate farming sims, but love those kinds of RPGs?

 
I think I'm getting PopoloCrois. Hearing it's like an easy, old school JRPG only makes me want it more. I'm been playing a few harder games lately and could use something like this right now. Also, it looks absolutely charming as hell. I absolutely love Rune Factory 4 and Story of Seasons but I know going in that it's different than those two, so I think it's a good choice for me. Anyways, I really do appreciate everyone's input on this game. I was going to ask about it earlier but since you've guys have been talking, I think I kind of get the idea. Thanks!

Restoring farmland is a central part of the storyline, but the farming aspect can be, more or less, skipped entirely and the game played like a regular RPG. Even if you do decide you want to farm to complete some sidequests, you do it entirely whenever you want for short bursts as the crops won't die if you leave them. (Just make sure you grow and subsequently ship 100 crops to get the upgraded watering can and hoe.)

 
I actually forgot the exact words for that so I missed the reference. Haven't seen Homestar Runner in years. My favorite was the one about making a cartoon.

I don't think either has ever been cheaper, and tbh with the 3DS' limited lifespan they might not ever drop more. For some reason Capcom refuses to give them real deep discounts, although I guess that's par for the course for the eshop.

How much is it? I'm definitely in for Ace Attorney 5 at that price. Now I just need to re-buy a copy of Apollo Justice and I'll have all the whole series :D/ ...Except for the Japanese only releases of course.

$7 doesn't sound to bad. I just looked it up and people are saying it's well worth the money and that for spoiler purposes, you should play it before the final case as it appearentally takes place before then.

I've done it 5 times in the last month with zero issues

just an fyi it's an international charge so if your account is like mine it will send you an alert but that's no big deal

also right now they are having a nintendo eshop 10$ for 7$ promotion that I posted in the nintendo thread but in case anyone is iso one of those that's for sale today
