Shovel Knight is coming to the Switch at some point this year, but they've also laid out the future plans for the game that changes up how you can access it based on all of the content they're adding to the game in the next year or so.

Back to the main story! Soon, the game you now know as Shovel Knight will become Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. When that happens, you’ll also have new options to purchase each campaign as separate, standalone games on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC/Mac/Linux, and Nintendo Switch:

Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope – Shovel of Hope is our new name for the original Shovel Knight game, since it needed a title like the others. What do you think!? Rewatch the adventure here.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows – Plague Knight’s Campaign emerges from the Shadows to hopefully get some recognition this time! Watch it all here.

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment – Specter of Torment is our most expansive campaign yet. We’re so excited for you to become the reaper! See Specter Knight in action here.

Later in 2017 the following will release (names TBD):

Shovel Knight: King Knight’s Campaign – A crazy campaign with the gilded goob himself!

Shovel Knight: Battle Mode – Duel with up to 4 players as your favorite heroic or villainous knight! (3DS/Vita not included)

Why is this happening? Well, we hope providing less expensive standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players! Also, players can more easily grab an adventure (or Battle Mode) on another platform!

All owners of Shovel Knight on all platforms will automatically own Shovel Knight:Treasure Trove instead and will continue to get each of the planned free campaigns and features via updates. It will work exactly like how Shovel Knight was updated to include its first campaign addition, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows. Don’t worry!

In the spring, we will be raising the price of Shovel Knight. If you haven’t picked up Shovel Knight yet and want all the content included within Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, buy it now before the price increases this Spring! Or pick a selection of the standalone versions for a cheaper price!

Don’t forget King Knight’s very own campaign and the 4-player Battle Mode are still on the horizon for 2017. As described above, they will become available as standalone games on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC/Mac/Linux, and Nintendo Switch and will also be delivered as FREE updates on ALL platforms to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Look forward to more news on these in the future!
So the basic gist is that due to all of the content coming to the game throughout the rest of the year, they're raising the base price for the whole package for all new purchasers and offering standalone versions of the expansion campaigns for those that might just want those campaigns. Wii U and 3DS owners of the game are still going to get all of the updates, so nothing changes if you already own the game. It seems like there probably won't be any sale opportunities until the price increase for those of you that have yet to buy it, but I'll make sure to point that out in the future if they do put it on sale before that happens.

That's actually a rather cool idea. I hope they do well with this new business model, as Shovel Knight was really well made, and the fact that they are still supporting it speaks volumes to them, as well as us fans who continue to buy what we can when offered. I wish them nothing but the best in the future.

I don't get the $250 price point.  For what you're getting (4 hrs of portability?  YEA RIGHT)...

I need something (when going portable) that is... portable.  For the same reason I don't run around with an iPad Pro (or whatever the giant one is).  I don't get this niche.  This isn't the Wii, this is a niche currently being filled by a mobile centric market.

They should have just made a phone that can dock and hook up to a TV...

Dedicated controls on a (probably) more powerful tablet will certainly fill the on-the-go gamer niche that the 3DS currently (and Vita could have) filled.

Pocket Card Jockey and Dr. Mario are mine.  See Nintendo?  Discounds on puzzle games make people buy them *cough*picross*cough*

FYI, Pocket Card Jockey got me 10 gold points (yay?), so despite being sub 5.00 with the MyNintendo discount it still counted for the points.

At $250 I'll nab the Switch, plus a couple of games that would bring me to $370 sans tax. If it's $300 I'll probably drop that to one game. I never had a Wii U so I have a slight yearning to own another Nintendo console. The safer bet would be to wait a year and see how the library develops before taking the plunge, but if I get the chance to own one I probably won't be able to help myself.

My worry is that it will be hard to get one of these things at launch or close to it. Nintendo will probably hold back to enable shortages. The last thing they want is to over estimate demand and have units sitting on shelves unsold, so they'll go the other way. I'll probably have to wait a year then anyway, and if the library doesn't shape up well there's always the chance I'll spend my money upgrading my other consoles instead.

I'll probably pass on the Switch unless the response to the system is amazing. I bought a Wii U, and of course that didn't turn out so great for me.

I got up at the crack of dawn this morning to use the eShop on my Wii U before I go to work, and much like on my 3DS and my 2DS, it is saying that my Internet connection no longer works. I have tried to reset it about a dozen times and it won't let me. I had the same problem on those handhelds. I never have this problem with my PlayStation or Xbox devices. Why Nintendo couldn't have allowed Wii U owners to use a wired connection on their HD system is pure idiocy. Hell, I can plug a cord into my Shield TV and it works. I am so pissed off right now since I've been sitting on a $10 eShop card for a long while, finally see a game I might want to play, and can't buy it. I apologize for the rant, but I hate wasting time when all I want to do is buy a game that I've been wanting to play.

Looks like the my nintendo discounts are slowly being added to accounts. I had 11 earlier, now have 19. May want to wait until all are added.

They set the times for this thing so only hipsters and slackers can watch. Makes sense since they're the only ones looking to buy this damn thing.

So is $23.99 not a good price for River City: Tokyo Rumble kind of want to get it?
At that price, might as well get a physical copy.

Related, my birthday month coupons include an extra 10% off RC:TR. Thankfully I already have a physical copy of the game so I can focus my coupon privileges on something digital only.

Just checked and it's only $21&change on the eshop for me something something my nintendo 10% off so I'm in thanks.

If anyone likes a good puzzle game, Toki Tori 3D can't be beat. Really makes you think at times, and for less than a dollar, it should be a mandatory buy for puzzle fans.

Woo, in for some weird Japanese horse breeding!

Oooooo, Amazon sells $5 digital eShop cards now too. How perfect!

Got Pocket Card Jockey for $5.50 exactly. Thanks for the reminder Frisky!
Why didn't you sign up for the free membership you should have anyway and save 55 cents more?...

Thanks for the suggestion, but even if I buy the games online, I still can't download them which defeats the purpose of buying them at all. I know this is the Nintendo deals thread, but this situation with not being able to access my home wi-fi on any of my Nintendo systems means that I won't buy another N system going forward. Microsoft and Sony seem to understand how important digital is, and both companies have planned accordingly to make sure that customers have no problems accessing their digital storefronts with their devices. I found numerous complaints online from other 3DS and Wii U owners like myself who all of a sudden one day couldn't get online with their systems because their systems wouldn't connect to their home wi-fi. So annoying.

Yeah, I had problems years back with my DS, as it was having issues, and I had to change all kinds of settings on my router to finally get it to work, as you stated, it was very annoying. Back then they where kind of new to online, so it was kind of understandable, but now, there really is no excuse.

Yeah, it's crazy how I walk in from work and my mobile phone auto-connects to my wi-fi. My 3DS, 2DS, and Wii U won't, and it's like brain surgery to follow the numerous FAQs online that attempt to address the problem. But I've got enough Wii U and 3DS games to choke a horse at this point, so if I can't build a bigger Nintendo backlog, I guess I just have to accept that and move on.

You could get a USB ethernet adapter for the Wii U:

Intro thoughts:

Less than two months.  Huh.

$300.  Bah.

No region locking - about time.

EDIT:

And paid online service is annoying.

Garbage battery life.

Yeah, probably a pass at launch for me.

By the time you buy a game and pay sales tax, it's almost $400. I'm very skeptical. Especially with the scalper culture surrounding pre-orders a Nintendo products.

Thanks to system preorders being allowed with this past generation, it's not nearly as bad as it used to be (I could easily find a wii u a month within launch unlike wii which I had to go to best buy at 3 am 6 months in to get)

So, I preordered then canceled the Switch.
Only because none of the game I want will be out at release but will be out supposedly by June, so we'll see.

I'm definitely going to hold off. With only one confirmed launch game i care about it's not worth it for me to jump in from the get go. Plus i think it's just a tad too ambitious with all of the extra frills they stuffed in the controller. I can think of no practical use for the IR camera in anything but party games.
