Preordered through Amazon for now, but I could cancel by launch day. I need more details, like if any of our Wii U purchases can move over to the Switch through the account system. That would help me make the leap.

Indeed, with only one promising launch title, it seems hard to drop $360 day one for the console and Zelda.

$50 for a tiny controller with impressive tech seems to be giving the American people too much credit. Not liking that Wii U Pro Controller may not be compatible with Switch, even if it runs on Bluetooth.

I restarted my router when I got home last night and then was magically able to sign into the eShop on my 3DS. I redeemed the $10 card I had, bought Edge, Pocket Card Jockey, Toki Tori 3D, Words Up Academy, and Zombie Incident since I knew the magic wouldn't last. And for some reason, my 2DS and my Wii U still won't connect despite the restart. But at least the $10 card wasn't wasted. Thank you to everyone who provided advice in my time of need.

I can't believe this but I think this is the first Nintendo I'm going to pass on since the Gamecube.  Ugh....

3 hr battery life isn't portable.

$300 is just under the $350 for a PS Pro or $250 (plus games).

Dead serious when I thought Nintendo was going to short us the power plug.  Maybe that's where everyone gets the $250 from.

Games look eh.  Intrigued by Mario, but that's really it.  I don't need Skyrim, Minecraft, or any of the 100000 other games that have already hit other platforms.

Paying for online?  FOR WHAT?  What functionality does Nintendo online do that I can't get elsewhere?  You're purposely shoehorning in an expense that is unnecessary for something that time-and-again Nintendo hasn't been able to do correctly.

(le sigh)

That's actually better than what I get with my 3DS XL. I usually average between 2 and 3 hours between charges, sometimes sooner.
Then you need to check your 3DS XL battery... because even with Monster Hunter I can play for 4-5 hrs plus storage/standby, and still make it home to charge at night.

My 3ds xl never got more than 3 hours full charge, my New 3ds XL gets 4-5 easily. Makes no sense but it is what it is.

Heck my regular 3DS never got more than 3 hours when playing any serious game. That was my motivation for purchasing a multi-pack of USB->3DS/DSi charger cables so I could just keep one at work, one in the car, and then have a charger next to the bed. It's easily the least battery friendly system I've owned since the old GameGear (now that thing ate batteries!).

GameGear and the Nomad both ate batteries at an unreal rate.

i know if you play with 3d on, that will destroy your battery life but with it off you should get around 5-6 hours.  also i thought i heard that the switch will have 2 to 6 hours of battery life depending on the game.  probably a case of when in portable mode you can tone down the graphics settings to lower the battery drain a little.

They've already shown that on a full charge running Zelda, you get 3 hours. Lesser games that don't tax the CPU will get higher. Those higher numbers I'm sure are for old ass VC games, so don't get excited on the batter lasting long at all in portable mode.

Slow down there folks.  You're confusing apples and oranges.  The original 3DS spec was 3-5 hrs.  When the 3DS XL came out, it was about 3.5-6.5.  Now, my original 3DS XL was about 4-5 on a full charge.  My NEWEST 3DS XL is closer to 6 but I haven't really taxed it yet to try it.

Sorry to bother but non of these carries over to the Switch right? No backward compatibility announced?
From the Wii U? Still don't know why people expect this when it can't support the basic functionality Nintendo required for half the system's life.

And you know those numbers are always generated on technicalities of how no one uses the system like lowest brightness settings and looping video playback.

So, having played my copy of Freedom planet I got from a humble bundle, I feel I must share that I felt that it was a very shitty rip-off of sonic.

I was just about to make a post about how I'm not very interested in the Switch right now, and how I'll wait at least a year before taking a serious look at it (and even then I may not get it).

Then I saw Xenoblade 2.

Hm, but I wonder if they make you pay to access the full digital library?

From the press releases I've read it states that the digital library will allow you to load up to the 300+ figures possible to own by this point to the console so you can play on the go without a portal. This makes it sound like you need to still own the figures to unlock them for use rather than just having access to the entire collection. This seems far more likely than them shooting themselves in the foot and giving you characters without requiring to purchase the figures, especially since new level packs and figures are announced in this same press release.

Did no one at Nintendo look at that Splatoon 2 logo or did they just not realize it's got a pink penis in it?

So instead they'll let you pay $5 for each digital Skylander? Really surprised they didn't do that a long time ago actually.

This is exactly how the Skylanders digital library is described:

"In March 2017, Skylanders Imaginators makes its way to Nintendo Switch, offering players a new way to play. No Portal of Power®? No problem with Skylanders Imaginators on the Nintendo Switch as the platform introduces a digital library that allows players to easily load and store their 300+ toys from the Skylanders® franchise directly to the new home gaming system. The arrival of the digital library empowers players to take their Skylanders Imaginators adventure on-the-go whenever and however they want."

This Activision blog shows the packaging that includes a few figures with it, so I guess the codes that came with some figures are finally useful for something.

Where exactly are you getting a Pro for $350?
Whelp just cyber monday they were 350 and another place was 399 but came with a game. Either way. Still better in the long run than the Switch. I'm not going to play internet sleuth to find more occasions between Nov-Christmas that they went lower for various sales and whatnot.

Switch, instead, is releasing in March. Right before gaming dry season. Of course, with Ninendo, the first 6-10 months after launch is it's own dry season. Hell, half the launch games will likely fall out of that window and we're only 2 months away.

Sounds like micro transactions to me.
Sounds great. Probably will be able to do with it what I do with Amiibo's... that's not allowed to be discussed on here. Awesome!

I think $299 for launch is very reasonable, considering PS4 and Xbox One were $399. And let's not forget PS3 launched at $599.

I'm curious about the battery life. IIRC, they said it would be 2-6 hours.  Maybe if it runs out too fast they will eventually sell better batteries and/or new controllers with better batteries?

Game prices don't affect me. As far as I know, they always started at $59. What does surprise me is the $80 price for controllers. I suppose these charges will make up for the low launch price of the console.

Hyperlight EX: If you like Geometry Wars style twin stick shooters, I would recommend this. Though it isn't "twin stick". Move with the circle pad, but to destroy enemies you don't shoot but use boost ("A" button). It can become difficult quickly but every time I die I feel like its my fault. And you can get back to playing immediately, giving it a 'just one more try' feel.

Also bought Edge, Toki Tori 3D, and Pocket Card Jokey.

Pocket Card Jockey is alright....gets old really, really quickly though. It is pretty fun to try to win all the cups though.
yea i put around 30 hours or so in it... gets boring fast... kind of stupid your ponies start of so weak.. i can have 100 + on both their parenets and they start like 30

I was going to buy it based on your description, but it is only available on the New 3DS. Bummer.

Also, to note:  Zelda will not be running 1080 resolution on the Switch.  Even on a TV.  Period.  Which means, Switch really can't do HD. (let alone 4k)

That is ... not what that means. PS4 and X1 both run some games at 900p too. I guess they can't really do HD?

Technically, it can do HD as 720p falls under that threshold. But I get you. We'll have to wait for an emulator before we can experience a 4k 60fps Zelda Juggernaut.

Yeah, Pocket Card Jockey started to feel dull around the 8 hour mark for me. Grindy and only somewhat relaxing. I get back into it every now and again for a few hours. Good enough for the price. A sequel could be cool with more stuff to do.
