It was up for an hour it seems before I saw it. Got an order in with no issue. Likely gonna be pretty common, but it's going on the shelf with the other Zelda consoles. I'll prolly use the online code though.

I'm so proud of myself...I resisted the Zelda Switch Lite. I love it so much, but I just can't see myself going from the OLED to a Lite. My single complaint about the OLED is that it's a little heavy, so I know the Lite will be more comfortable, but losing the larger, OLED screen is just too much for me. I've seen screen comparisons between the different Switch models and man does the OLED screen justify its existence with those beautiful colors. And, with the Switch 2 on the horizon, I just couldn't justify buying a Lite I'll barely (if ever) use. I'm glad it's been readily available for people who do want it and maybe, in the future, I can snag it on clearance for the collection.

Yeah, I guess an OLED Lite wouldn’t make sense at $250 since the regular Switch is that price. You get a downgrade in screen and battery life, plus obviously the inability to dock.

I had a gray Switch Lite before getting an OLED (regular, then sold that for the Zelda OLED), and my Lite became the backup. Now I'll sell the gray Lite and this Zelda Lite will become my backup. It's fitting since my Link Between Worlds is my 3DS backup unit, and the Windwaker tablet is my backup WiiU tablet.

Nintendo has been torturing me for decades with all their cool different colored models, or ones that end up being limited edition, etc.

I hold strong each time but it's so painful (getting an OLED is the only time I've broke), sucks being a Day 1 adopter sometimes lol
I, one time, changed out a console for another color. I remember I felt so stupid afterward. All that work transfering titles. For just a different color system. These days, if I want a console refresh for a limited edition, I just get a skin. Decalgirl was always my source back when I did that. If you have a solid colored Switch, it makes it easy to skin it.
Animal Crossing skin, for example.

I've only upgraded a console when the features of the new version are really worth it. I went from a standard 3DS XL to a New 3DS XL for the better visuals, amiibo reader, little nub thing, and more stable 3D. I also upgraded my launch Switch to an OLED for the larger and brighter screen, better battery life, and higher volume. Both times, I was able to trade in the old systems for credit toward the new ones. I feel Nintendo does a pretty good job of justifying its console refreshes.

I know a PS5 Pro may be on the horizon, but I honestly can't see that being a substantial upgrade over what's already a very powerful and fast console. 60fps and 4k visuals at once (no longer having to choose between performance and graphics modes) would be nice, but I highly doubt it'll be capable of that without being really expensive.

Thinking about getting the Animal Crossing SL from Walmart for my son. I know we wouldn’t be able to play the same games together that we have bought off the store, but are there any other downsides to having multiple Switches in a household? I would have to be the primary account on it too since I’m the primary on the family account, right?

No to this last Q. Any account can be primary for the console.

I share my account with my young nephews and I've settled on the following system as the best way to for us. I keep my console as primary. Then I can play all of my games without restriction on an alternate profile. Kids play my games on my profile on their consoles without interruptions on either side. Password lock on eshop of course.

You can only be primary on one switch, unfortunately. So primary on the main switch and everyone else can play your games. Secondary on other switches, and must be logged in on your profile to play those games.

Shoot. So a family plan won’t work on a second switch? Thats a huge downside and pretty much talks me out of it. They have their own profiles with their own saves. If they can’t access the games, there’s no point.

Yes it can work. If you want everyone to stick to their own profiles and saves, set the multi-profile console as primary. The other non-primary console will then require an online check to launch games, and cannot run two different digital lisences concurrently. To avoid these conflicts I settled on the arrangement I posted above.

Alright, so if I understand correctly, I just make the Switch Lite the primary and they should be able to access everything normally. I don’t plan on using the Switch lite at all, so we should be all set then. They can’t access the eShop, so that should be all set too.
Thanks for the help everyone.

I share my account with my sister so she can play my games. I have her switch set as primary for my account and then she uses her own account to play my games downloaded from my profile. I only have my account on my switch but I need to be connected online in order to launch digital games. Physical games should be fine to play without internet access unless you have DLC for it. Have your account ask for the password to log in for the eShop just in case. Also we can play the same game together that only I own. For example Portal 2 she's on her account and I'm on mine and we can play co-op together online with no issue.

It's confusing, so let me see if I can clarify further. I'm going to use the term "your profile" to refer to the one with the games on it.

Your profile can be primary on only one Switch. This will allow all profiles on that Switch to play all games downloaded under your profile.

Your profile can be secondary on another Switch. Only your profile on that Switch will play games downloaded under your profile.

So you can

1) Have your profile as the primary on your current Switch. All profiles on that Switch can play games downloaded on your profile. You can also be a secondary on the new Switch Lite, but those playing the new Switch Lite must play on your profile to play any of your games. Game saves can transfer between Switches, so this isn't as big a deal with cartridge games.

For example: I have an OLED (Primary) and a standard (Secondary) Switch. I also have a Nintendo Online Family Plan. My kids can play Pokemon Violet (cart) on either Switch, on their profile, uploading/downloading save data from the cloud. I have Zelda digital. Any of my kids can play Zelda in their profiles on the OLED, but only in my profile on the standard Switch. They cannot transfer save data played on my profile to their profile.

2) Have your profile as the primary on the Switch Lite, allowing all profiles on the Lite to play your games. However, that makes your current Switch the secondary account, so your games can only be played from your profile. Little Timmy wouldn't be able to play a downloaded game from your account on his account on the current Switch.

People are talking about different things here.

If you're talking about the Family Plan for Nintendo Switch Online ($35, up to 8 people, NES/SNES/Game Boy/Game Boy Color games)
* You add each USER to the plan, up to 8 people total. You are the primary/managing user.
* Each user can access all the retro games, online gameplay, and save file backup on any switch their account is logged into. You can be signed into two Switches without a problem.

The "primary switch sharing games" thing is different:
* You can designate any Switch as the "primary" Switch for your user account. Accessing the eShop sets that Switch to your primary -- I think.
* ANYONE ELSE signed into a Switch can play ALL GAMES owned by "Primary" accounts on that Switch.
* Thus -- if Bob has Switch #1 as his primary, Nancy can add her account to Switch #1 (not set it as her primary Switch) and then play any of Bob's owned digital games. If Nancy signs into Switch #2 as her primary, Bob can add his account to Switch #2 (not primary) and play all of Nancy's owned games on it. In addition, Bob and Nancy can play any of their personally owned games on ANY Switch they are logged into, as long as they are online as well.

Buying physical games mostly solves the whole game sharing issue as long as you stay way from paid dlc. Which I have, for the most part avoided buying DLC other than for Xenoblade 2 & 3 and Zelda BotW. Which the XC2 DLC, I bought the physical for Torna, so there's really not much my kids would miss since the other dlc isn't much.

Digital is pretty simple. Only the primary system can play all purchased content across all profiles. Secondary systems can only play purchases from whichever profile made the purchase.

For myself, the switch I play is my primary. Then I am signed in on my kid's switch systems and if they need to play something I purchased, they can just use my profile as I have cloud save backups turned off on their systems for my profile. My kids are all now in their 20's, so I'm not worried they'll turn cloud saves on and wipe something important out. Especially since there's not a lot I buy digital.

Which this is kind of the flip opposite of the days where I bought two PS3's for the house. One for the kids and one primary one for myself and the main tv. WIth that you can have two primary systems and share everything to all profiles on both systems. It worked out well. Same for the PSP/Vita/PSTV days. You could have three systems (I think)... so my PSP Go, Vita, and PSTV could all be signed in and have full access to my purchases (within their limits). To me, that was the golden age of digital since it was all those handhelds and two consoles and one digital purchase might give you access to play on multiple platforms (including PS4). I made a lot of use of PS+ back then as well since I was the only one to need it and online play was free so my kids didn't need PS+.

"Game Sharing" on Switches is really more of a side effect of how their login system works. The intent isn't to "share games" -- the intent is to allowing owned games on a Switch to be played by any other family member using that Switch. "Game Sharing" is the result of users gaming the system.

Thanks for the heads-up man. Just got it last week. I don't understand why they would set limits on the coin redemptions for cartridges.

I think it's simply to give a bonus for physical sales to get people to buy sooner since they are getting something back. Of course the gold coins are nothing compared to just waiting for a price drop.

NES switch controllers are 20% off. Real homies remember when they were almost half off ($35) a few years ago.
I mean, real OGs remember when there was a scramble to order them at full price when it seemed like it was a limited release. I still maintain that despite the lack of a standalone usb c charging at $60 for 2 this was the best of the value of any of those classic controllers.

The lack of USB charging is a huge issue and makes the SNES controller superior in value.

The Nintendo World Championships NES Deluxe Set is available to purchase for pickup at my local Target stores, today 7/18. The online order has not shipped yet so I'm going to grab one of these right now.

I ended up opting out of the NES World Championship physical once I saw how cheap the standard release was over seas. If I get it, that's the way I'll go. I don't need all the crap included in the deluxe set.

I think buying 2 of the SNES ones for $60 total was a much better deal and what I ended up doing. USB-C Charging (cable included), ZL & ZR buttons, lights on the bottom instead of top, more ergonomic, and most important to me is that it has a much wider use among games. Not just NES & SNES but a large variety of games are fully playable with the SNES controller. Plus for emulating over on pc, again, SNES has far far more uses.

I'm a huge fan of the NES. Heck, I love the NES more than the SNES. But I couldn't see the point in the NES controllers when everyone was clamoring for them and they mainly were usable for just the NES app with Nintendo Online (something I wasn't really woo'd by early on either).

Give me the wave bird gc controller and I'm good.

Same. I love that controller so much I have five of them. The only thing I don't love about the wavebird is the need for batteries (though recharables solves this and I know for many this is huge plus) .. but that controller is just fantastic. Especially having those hybrid analog/digital triggers and the ergonomics are fantastic.

Cancelled my NES world championship game as well since it was back ordered. Nintendo should’ve included the NES controllers with the deluxe set like they did in Japan.

I was wondering if Nintendo was going to make any new Amiibo after the Smash re-prints. Splatoon isn't my thing, but I'm glad to see new Amiibo.
