And I thought I got my first cell phone super late.

It was one of those tiny Nokia bricks back in 9th grade, for reference.

My first phone was a Nokia prepaid (Tracfone I think it was called). Basically got it for travel. Graduated to a smart phone a couple years later.

Keep going back and forth on getting the Analogue 3D/N64 console. On one hand, I have tremendous nostalgia for that era and on the other hand, I have improved versions of most of the games that matter to me on other platforms.

Super Mario 64 > Super Mario 64 DS + Super Mario 3D All-Stars
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time > The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
GoldenEye 007 > GoldenEye 007 (Xbox Series)
Mario Kart 64 > Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Super Smash Bros. > Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Star Fox 64 > Star Fox 64 3D
Most Rare games (Banjo, Perfect Dark, etc.) > Rare Replay on Xbox

N64 games I'd definitely buy:
1080° Snowboarding
Diddy Kong Racing (I have Diddy Kong Racing DS and it doesn't hit)
Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr
Mario Golf

...I'm probably going to order the Analogue 3D. I'm a sucker.

There are no side by side comparisons that I know of. You can already get your N64 modded for cheaper than $250. I good converter can also do the job just fine. I need more info and a hands on to see just how much better it is than a standard N64, a modded one with the best HDMI upscaler and everything else it can do better than what is already available for cheaper. The fact that it doesn't even come with a controller is ridiculous.

It says it has a built-in Memory Pak, but doesn't say what size. Also has an SD card slot and comes with a 16 GB card. Curious if that's also for Memory Pak saves.

Hard disagree. The best N64 HDMI mod kit from pixel fx (the retro gem) is $190 for the N64 kit. The basic version kit is $120 (only supports 720p). The mod is rather difficult and requires some technical know how. Sure there are cheaper mod kits for like $50 but they're trash and won't last. So even if you manage to find a N64 for $50 and you can do the mod yourself, you will still have to factor in getting the expansion pak to be comparable. Buying an HDMI modded N64 on eBay is possible but will still likely run you north of $200 and you don't know the quality of the work or parts used and you're dealing with 25+ year old hardware that can go bad. HDMI adapters are out there. The eon adapter is decent and gets the job done but it's still around $100 (currently $160 on Amazon) and it's not the most reliable piece of hardware.

Long post short, it's good value if you are in that world and want a convenient way to play your N64 carts.

Is it talking about the memory cards -or- the "Memory Expansion"? I thought it was the latter...

That's what I was referring to. You can find HDMI adapters for much cheaper. Plus, you'd be able to get multiple N64 controllers too buying used on ebay, offerup or marketplace. This one doesn't come with any controllers. I just need more info about it. I need to see side by side and if it is indeed a value. I already have an ice blue N64 with expansion pak, 2 memory cards and 4 controllers with an HDMI adapter. My adapter gets the job done but I definitely need to improve it and a better one isn't going to cost me $250. Not even close. 720p gets the job done just fine. Again, I might end up being completely wrong with the cost but since I already have an N64(and I would have to think must of us that want to play N64 games already own an N64 too or just use NSO) I can't see how it's worth it to buy this for $250 plus tax.

I just think it's a little unfair to say it's not worth $250 since you already have an N64. They aren't going to provide discounts to those that already have a console. Sure it sounds like it's not worth it to you, but $250 as the price for this really isn't that ridiculous. You could always sell your N64 and apply it to the cost of this and then you can look at it like you got it for less. All your current controllers will work on it as well. Used N64 controllers on eBay and offerup all likely have terrible sticks anyways. I think it's cool and $250 seems pretty reasonable for what it is. But this is a pretty niche and enthusiast type product so probably just not for everyone.

$250 for this is is amazing. When I first caught wind of it, I was speculating $400-$500 range just based on their other models. So when it dropped for preorder at $250, I was pleasebtly surprised. I have my original n64 and my original controllers (sticks are pretty trashed) and I still got one preordered with two controllers. The accessibility and fresh hardware is what is my interest.

I bet they potentially come out with some sick color ways as well that I’ll have to grab another just for fun. Hopefully they can add openFPGA and I’ll be set.

It’s definitely niche but the market is there and for this price, it’s a no brainer for that market.

I grabbed one. Getting a jungle green one would be sick but I imagine any color will be limited and not sure I'd be quick enough to get it. Analogue stuff has great resale value so if I do manage to get a color down the line I'll just sell the black one later

I just wish they at least had some side-by-side comparisons or actually shown gameplay footage. I also need someone to break it down one by one and tell me why it's a better deal than just buying like a good upscaler. Used to be able to buy a Retro tink one for like 60 bucks.

White analogue 3d is sold out. Black is still instock and I thought black would go first.
Nobody knows if they allocated them evenly. Could've allowed preorders on twice as many black as white.

They charge you for shipping too! I have seen some Reddit receipts and you are looking at $300. A total rip-off in my opinion. At least give free shipping for God's sakes.
These are expensive products but take a look at sold Super NT prices now. Originally sold for $200 + $50 in taxes and shipping. Now easily selling for $500 used.

People want to play Nintendo games in simple, high quality.

Did anyone preoder the N64 3D?
I pre-ordered the White one. I was too slow to get the special controller though. I plan to get an Everdrive as well. I have the Analogue Pocket, Super NT (SNES) and Mega SG (Genesis). I was too late to the scene to get the NT Mini or Mini Noir (NES) unfortunately. I wish they would make these things more available.

The black controller hasn’t been in stock yet.
Seems like the Switch Online N64 controller might work out of the box.

There's a link if you want to preorder the black one.

So I caved and bought one. I was looking for info to see if it will be sold on Amazon too but couldn't find anything. Total was 296.11. I could always just cancel it if it I find it elsewhere to avoid that shipping charge and I have my ice blue n64 I could sell to offset the price of this.

I preordered two black 3Ds, but I wanted a white one. One is for my sister in law for next Christmas since it’s her favorite system and she’s my son’s godmother. Figure if a white one comes available I can cancel a black and get a white, or just not give a crap because I don’t want to pay for the shipping again. Cross that bridge later.

I don’t think Analogue has sold products through other retailers before.

I've read other posters state that Analogue comes out with all kinds of different colors later on so it will be kind of a bummer if they do release an ice blue version next year or the year after but I can live with that.

Definitely a possibility but at a higher price and lower availability.
Oh is that standard protocol? I am okay with my black one if they are gonna charge more simply because the color is different. Rumor has the N64 3D being shipped out on March 19th because that's when the controllers will be available on Amazon or something.

Yes, I would expect additional colors to start at $279.99.

Before the Analog pocket they didn’t do too many variant colors with the NT, Super NT, and Mega SG. There were a few but not much. Seeing how well the Pocket variant colors sold and given the history of the N64 colors it seems likely though. That having been said, I’m not taking chances and I don’t want to wait so I ordered mine right away yesterday.

Thanks. I found out later that the Black controller isn't available to preorder yet but curiously the White controller is available. It's ironic that the Black console is available but you can't preorder the matching black controller while the White console is sold out but you can preorder the White controller.

You guys got me thinking about N64 now. You've also got me reading all about the new Analogue 3D and everything it does. So for the first time in ~22years I broke out my old system. Took about 2hrs digging through the basement in order to find the power cable. It was inside of a Game Gear carry case for some reason. I must have been confused.

N64-playtime-1.jpg

Everything seems to be in working order....but Donkey Kong 64 crashed on me a few times right at the start. Dunno if it's a connector problem or a bad cart; will have to do some more testing. So I fired up Starfox 64 and played it for about an hour. It was pretty fun! Sticks are loose but the controllers still work. The weirdest thing ever is that a few of the games I played the most are the ones that I'm missing: Mario 64, The New Tetris (some of the best-ever 4-player btw), and Mario Kart 64. I think they might have been taken in college. But I found several more games than I remembered owning, so that was a boon.

Now you've got me thinking about ordering one of these Analogue consoles. The value seems pretty good. They charge right at the time you order, right?

My N64 takes like 15 minutes to get video after putting a different game in. The 3D went up for order just in time and I got an order in.

They do charge at time of order

That is crazy that the analogue 3d in black color is still in stock after preorders opened yesterday

I think a lot of people expect Analogue to release more color options and are waiting. Notice how everyone jumped on the white version immediately? I honestly picked the white version because it is easier to read the engraved words for me compared to the Black version.

Do you want it tomorrow, or are you interested in a physical copy a year to year and a half from now from Limited Run Games for $35?
