This looks really neat. I’m reminded of that streetpass fishing game on 3DS, which I loved. Gonna buy 👍

Oh I hope you love it! The franchise is super popular in Japanese arcades. This is a sequel to the first game, Tsuri Spirits, that was only released in Japan. Besides the story mode, it has just about everything from the first game, plus online mini games.
There is a bit of a learning curve on how to reel in and fight with the fish, but I promise if you stick with it you will become addicted

And it's a massive collect-a-thon too! Hundreds of fish to catch, achievements, machines to unlock, plus cards for every fish which you get from packs won in a gacha machine. Tons of hats, clothes, and rods to customize your character. I'm pretty sure I've put more time into the coin push machine than I have the whole rest of the game 🤣 You do need to win lots of coins to buy everything.

There's some definite animal crossing crossover stuff going on; like the way your character looks and the aquarium set up. But the fish look super detailed and colorful. I paid full price and sunk 95 hours into it with no regrets. It's definitely worth $15 😲

Sounds awesome! I love fishing and I like learning new facts about real critters. The multiplayer also sounds like a lot fun. Dunno why I never heard of this game before, there’s not enough fishing games around these days.

I know this isn't the case, but this feels like it turned into some kind of paid advertisement.

But is that software digital only, or does it include carts?

That's a great question; I kind of just assumed both digital and physical would be BC. The NS was released back in 2017 and I'm guessing there's been a drastic change in game sales between digital vs physical from then until now so... curious if they clarify this.

I don’t like this part: “Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.”

If it was 100% backwards compatible with physical and digital out of the box, I don’t think that comment is necessary.

Just the wording of that statement, or announcement, has me worried. Why go to those lengths of word salad? Why not just come out and say Switch carts are compatible if they will be?

It does show that Nintendo is in fact still behind the times. Imagine having to come out and say your PSN or XBL purchases will be playable going forward. They've been so stuck on double dipping for so long. and launching incongruent new software shops.

Scary. I don't like it.

This message is ambiguous and only confuses things. It suggests that only digital purchases will be forward compatible.

Probably 75/25 shot of controller compatibility. As outside of the wiiu to switch gen iirc its been consistent for a bit. Gc controller worked on bc wiis. Wiimotes worked on the wiiu. I don't recall if they had them if wired wiiu controllers being usable for the switch.

Or monkey paw it is compatible but only for select game/s. On the other paw it could be compatible and just require a dongle attachment of some sort you need to purchase like gc controller for wiiu Iirc.

I think people are reading into the translated text what they fear instead of thinking through this logically. The rumored specs include joycons that don't mount the same as the old ones. Original joycons won't charge from the Switch 2 directly. You'll likely need an external charger stand or a charging grip for them. Switch controllers also may not be compatible with all Switch 2 software, we'll have to wait and see if they add buttons or new tech. The switch dock will likely not be compatible and possibly even switch chargers may not supply enough power. Additionally on controllers, Switch 2 controllers may be missing something like the IR camera or something else that creates some incompatibilities when using them to play original Switch games. They likely will not work at all with the ring fit adapter. There's more to compatibility than just cartridges and eshop and I'm sure if others really think about this and past Nintendo console transitions, you'll probably come up with a bunch of stuff I'm forgetting.

I can't imagine Nintendo has any intention of abandoning physical. I think there are still some countries without eshops and Nintendo is going to want to sell hardware and software there. So cartridges that hold full games is still important. They also understand the niche of phsyical game collecting and how well physical games have sold. I figure the cart slot will be slightly different to prevent people from sticking Switch 2 games into original Switch systems. My guess is a wider cart or a 3DS like tab. It's possible some regular Swtich games that are later in life of the Switch will start coming with, "Enhanced for Switch 2" labeling. So they can do some games, like Metroid Prime 4, as regular Switch games with that designation while not having to do a second sku for it. Of course this is Nintendo so they still could do something gimmicky with whatever extra stuff the new controllers do and do two skus again.

I'm streaming some Mario & Luigi: Brothership if you want to see that in action.

Edit: Here's the archive. It's good so far, though they made a weird change to the combat system so that Luigi's actions are not all performed with the B button like in previous games. The menu stuff is done with the A button for both bros, but then you switch to B for the attack itself that takes a bit to get used to it. Otherwise, everything else is largely the same as in previous games. It looks very nice, runs fine enough, and the concept of the way you're finding new areas to explore is a neat idea for this world that used to be one landmass that has broken up into many that are floating around these various seas.

Great controller, but I went for the updated version with hall effect analog sticks that prevent drift. I've had the original version for a while and it started to drift a little.

Best Buy has the 8bitdo Pro 2 on sale for half off at $24.99:

Very good replacement for the Pro Controller at a much lower price and has back buttons you can program along with flexible use on PC, as well.

FYI this may be the ALPS model and not the Hall Effect joystick model if that matters to anyone.

I have owned the original 8 BITDO SN30 Pro Plus (looks like this but with lavender SNES buttons) for several years now and it has been great. It doesn't wake the Switch up from sleep though because it can be used for other devices and will need to be re-paired to the Switch after it gets turned on each time.

If you're going to buy that controller, click on the alternative locations. For me it wasn't in stock at any stores around my area and I couldn't pick it up until the 19th but when I clicked on alternate locations, I was able to pick it up on the 13th at different places much closer to me like CVS.

I'm not going to get it but I have a friend that has been wanting a pro controller but $70 is too much for him so this is a very affordable option for him. The only issue I see here is that the analog sticks are not offset like the pro controller and he prefers the offset sticks rather than the equal Sony ones. I'll let him know and have him decide. The cheapest I've ever seen the pro controller go on sale is 50 bucks. Not sure if that will happen this holiday season.

For what it’s worth, I have a regular Pro (essentially the same non-hall controller without the handgrips), and the battery wore out before I ever encountered any drift.

Solid controller. Been using a Pro 2 for a couple of months now. I primarily use it on PC though. After I paired it to my nsw console, there was noticable input lag in a simple platformer game. Updated the firmware and everything. A bit disappointing because there are a few nsw games where I consider back buttons absolutely essential (Hades, botw, totk). Basically any game that involves accessing both B and X concurrently.

The facts that it works fine on pc and when connected to nsw undocked suggests the problem lies in the console/TV settings.

I'm not too into 3rd party controllers. Once the Switch pro controllers start to drop I'm probably buying at least one extra. I tend to do that with systems when I have a lot of games. Extra controllers are worth it. Like I bought an official PS4 Red controller when Walmart was getting rid of them just so I'd have a nice minty new controller for when I dig through my small stack of PS4 games.

I still have about 4 WiiU branded Wii controllers that have the motion plus built in and extra nunchucks from when Walmart was selling the controllers for like $10 and the nunchucks for $5. I have three extra NES Classic official controllers from when I found them for $5 each.

Yeah, I admittedly don't take the best care of my controllers (don't abuse them; I just don't go out of my way to take care of them). But if anyone is like me then you might consider the Hall Effect version.

It really is a great controller, especially if you like the Sony style of stick placement. Works on multiple platforms via a simple switch on the back, programmable regular buttons, back buttons and turbo, and it also takes AA batteries in addition to its own battery.

I wish I had stocked up on ps4 controllers. One won't turn on for whatever reason but it lights up when on the charger and it says the battery is charged
2 are starting to get stick drift as well.
And my one blue and purple one the square button gets weird. I don't feel it registers when pushed occasionally.

I miss when Amazon had pallets of controllers they'd clearance out. I still have the one ps5 remote in the box from when they last did.

I have a blue DualShock 4 that does the exact same thing. I have opened it up and tried to mess around with it and no matter what, it won't work but it sure does charge.

I learned my lesson once NEW official OEM PS3 controllers became difficult to find for a decent price a few years ago. Now it is mostly RENEWED controllers on Amazon or fake knock-offs. I bought a few extra DS4 controllers from Sony directly during one of their Black Friday or Days of Play sales during the early PS5 days. Interestingly, you can still buy brand new DS4 controllers from Sony on their website. I wonder if they will go on sale this Black Friday.

some Targets have ps4 controllers on clearance. the problem is, they are already gone at all the nice, new shiny remodeled Targets, so you have to go to, shall we say, less desirable Targets...

That gives me memories of going to the, erm, less desirable K-Mart at a time when most of the K-Marts were not very desirable to start with. Cockroaches all over the place. Yummy.

I have two (gently used) if you’re interested in them I can ship em out. Just pay for shipping is all.

It's not impossible, but I've actually replaced the battery (the problem is the reason I bought a new battery), and it happens with both the old and new ones.

Was just thinking, the Switch’s legacy might be relatively insignificant in the future. What new IP were introduced this generation? Arms, 1-2 Switch, Ring Fit Adventure? Even the Wii U introduced Mario Maker and Splatoon.

What am I forgetting?

When I think of the Switch Legacy, the first things I think of are Mario Odyssey, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Smash Brothers Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 because like most of the world, I didn't own a Wii U so all of those were really good games on the Switch to me as I got them.

Personally, my lasting memory of the Switch will be losing myself into hundreds of hours of Animal Crossing during the Covid lockdown 😷

It's been more new takes on existing IP, yeah, but even so? Mario Odyssey, Mario Wonder, Yoshi's Crafted World, Metroid Dread, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, remasters like Advance Wars 1+2 and Metroid Prime...i don't know what, if anything, will be a "you must own this retro system to play this game in 20 years" title, but there are plenty of Nintendo franchises or Nintendo-published games that I will happily be playing on Switch that far afield, should the hardware survive that long.
