Yeah, you're always supposed to disable TV's dynamic tone mapping before calibrating HDR in console system settings, otherwise you're tone mapping twice. Then use HGIG for games that follow console HDR settings properly, DTM for games that ignore console HDR settings. I would also suggest turning on the option for HDR only with supported software, so that SDR content is presented natively instead of being put in a fake HDR container (which usually looks bad).

Proper calibration makes the HDR look better but unfortunately doesn't fix Nintendo's poor HDR mastering. Honestly, MKW looks better with HDR off on my LG OLED. The game wasn't made for HDR and it shows. To be fair, lots of developers struggle to get it right (I'm looking at you, Bethesda).

You are right that if I knew the price for every single thing I bought, I wouldn't have bought everything that I did buy. If I know for a fact something costa a dollar to make it's being sold for 30 bucks, I'm not going to buy it. If something costs a dollar to make and five it's being sold for $5 and I like the item, I would buy it. It's all about how much profit the company is making off of it and how much it costs. We are discussing a $450 console here. If it costs Nintendo $337 to make, I'm not going to buy it for $450 when there's pretty much no innovation at all.

Of all the insane things you post (and there is an enormous amount) this may be the most insane.

The fact that you base your purchase decisions on how much it costs the company to make vs. the actual market value of the item is straight up nuts. If you don’t think any given item is worth your money that’s perfectly reasonable. But to make a blanket statement

“if item X costs a company A dollars and they are charging A+ B dollars I’m not going to buy it“

is absolutely wild. There are a million things that go into the price of an item ranging from R&D to marketing To whatever.

Also….after your constant shitting on everywhere that is not Southern California, how’s it going out there today? What an absolute cesspool. Just moved my daughter out of LA after 4 years in that shithole. Not a moment too soon.

Are there even going to be new first party Nintendo games coming out this year other than Donkey Kong Bananza? I know Nintendo likes to keep a short window between announcement and release in recent years, especially after the whole Breath of the Wild on Wii U fiasco, but this is kind of ridiculous, why not hype up the rest of the year right away and try to boost sales at the beginning of launch?

Again let's wait and see how much it costs Nintendo to make each switch 2. I maintain that because they are pricing the same as their competitors and not a family-friendly price like the $299 switch launch that Switch 2 is not going to do nearly as well. If it cost Nintendo like $430 to make each switch 2, then I stand corrected but again, let's wait and see. Nintendo could have easily made the screen size around the same as the OLED and only did 720p handheld and only put 128 gigs of storage etc to get the price down to where they are still making a profit to sell it at $349 if it did in fact cost them like $430 to make. I just don't think all those people that bought a switch are going to all of a sudden plunk down $450 plus tax to upgrade to what almost looks identical to what they already own.

I don't live in Los Angeles county so I have no idea what happened there. I know IGN live is this weekend but I decided not to go. Your definition of how I talk about Southern California is not accurate. I merely state all the reasons that I live here. I don't crap on any other states..... except the offensive summer weather in Florida. I also absolutely hate the bitter cold too but hey, millions and millions of people seem to like very hot and very cold weather so more power to them.

Again, what are the hell are you talking about

No innovation at all. That's not worth $450 in my opinion.
If this was some revolutionary new console like Wii or Wii U or Switch, I likely would be playing it right now. But it's not. Nintendo did not innovate.
It's just a more powerful switch.

Every time I read one of the following it is just someone exposing their buttocks for all to see, telling everyone that their TV (and appreciation for visual quality) is shite.

Oh lol you were serious and not pretending to be stupid

They're all switch 1 games/rereleases and musou garbage that isn't Nintendo (don't let Link's pretty face confuse you)

Good luck i ran by Costco, best buy, Walmart, gamestop and target since there all fairly close by yesterday. Nada lol yet according to the NVC group on Facebook people are just walking in and finding them no problem. Hopefully you score
No luck for me. Costco only seemed to have PS5s in stock. I will keep looking when I am out shopping which pretty much only happens on the weekends for me. There is no rush since I have limited gaming time anyway. Would be cool if I could just find the system randomly one day while I am out shopping.

I saw your post where you found the Mario Kart bundle at Target which is awesome!

i think this is officially the worst thread on CAG now.
you know, it’s funny I keep seeing posts like this or complaints about others posts and I can only assume it’s because people I’ve already added to my ignore list are the main culprits because I’m just not seeing much.

The new ignore function is just so much better than before the site upgrade.

So to kinda get this thread back on track:

Is civ 7 fun? I bought civ 6 but never really got into it. Partly because my buddy said it lagged big time during end game.

edit: $30 on woot.

No, the ones who have been ring the bell not to buy the switch 2 for the last month are in shambles because they don't have it and they are trying to justify their decision to not buy, while we're all having a great time play mario kart.
Please. If by shambles you mean I already tried it and am elbow deep in early demos for the Steam Next Fest.

Talk about being off topic. Y'all need to either not engage or use the ignore feature. The subtweeting folks and name calling is childish nonsense. It's video games.

Like all Civ games, the one before the most recent is always the best because it's feature complete. I haven't read much on 7, but I did hear from friends who bought it like it, but it eats battery like none other as games go on longer. Otherwise, they liked it.

Finally played some 3 player MKW last night. found out the hdr in my fil’s tv is not compatible… though it doesn’t sound like I’m missing much. Overall, had a blast. we completed a couple more cups to unlock a few more characters. Played some 2player online in 4K, and then I drove around the open world a bit to show it off. Damn this game is pretty. It makes me really anticipate what the next 3D Mario will be like when Kart is this damned amazing.

Also played some Mario Golf (physical cart) on switch 2 and that game always was fast to load, with the intro starting at about 2 seconds (which hasn’t changed)…but almost everything else now is near instant loading through the menus and stuff. Loading the levels is quicker too. I’ve avoided the media coverage, but it seems physical switch games do load a little faster. I need to compare systems and get a timed difference… but everytime I go to mess with the Switch 2 I end up just playing Mario Kart World. 😂

Switch 2 haptics - thoughts?

I’ve played with joycon and pro 2 controller and not blown away. It’s not like the PS5. I wouldn’t use it as a reason to upgrade pro controllers.

I’ve only played Mario kart world. Not paying for the welcome tour so maybe that’s the difference…

Does anyone know what's going on with this:

It looks like they released Ridge Racer Arcade Archives in both Switch and Switch 2 formats... as unique titles... and the Switch version is $2 more.

The website doesn't seem to let you BUY the Switch AA version, but it is on the Switch eShop itself. There is mention of a discount on AC2/Switch2 version if you own the Switch version.

Does anyone know what differences exist, if any, between the Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2 versions???

Curious how No Man's Sky has become. Anyone know if it's a solid experience on the Switch? It's on sale and the Switch 2 upgrade is supposed to be free

I haven't played a lot of it on Switch 2, but what I did play was pretty good. I've played quite a bit on PS5 Pro lately, and of course the Switch 2 version isn't as good, but I was still pretty impressed with it. Using Hello Games cloud saves I was able to download my save and pick up where I had left off. The only issue I ran into was the left and right turning felt sluggish at first, a bunch of stuff was downloading at the time, so I don't know if that was affecting it or not. I saw a tip to turn off the 30 fps lock, and when I did that it was much more responsive (I play in first-person btw).

If the charging grip and pro controller now have back buttons, why not the console or joycon? Something for the revision perhaps.

They are just programmable shortcut buttons. They are not used normally. I don't think they'll ever be in the joycon 2's because of the mouse functionality and the need to completely redesign the cases to accommodate the release button and a grip area for the programmable buttons while still being ergonomic as a mouse. But, a third party like hori could do a Swtich Grip 2 or something that would sacrifice the nfc reader, mouse function, and some other stuff to add in the programmable buttons.

Seems like if you got used to having them in TV mode, it would be odd not to have them in handheld. Maybe a joycon pro? 😊
