I was NEVER this cool...Anyone else cool enough to remember this?
And you just made my day
Lucky. My dad moved out of state a few years ago and he threw out all of my old magazines before I could get over to pick them up. I was so pissed as I wanted them. I had issues of Nintendo Power going back to the first issue. He also threw out my strategy guides that I had like Final Fantasy III, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy VII.I have 1000's of gaming magazines still sitting at my parent's house.
Nintendo Power
EGM
EGM2
Tips & Tricks
Gamepro
Gamefan
OPM
PSM
OXM
And likely more of the other common ones. I really need to sort and sell...after re-reading, of course.
EGM, Nintendo Power, and Gamefan were probably the best for me...especially EGM. Always was a fan.
While I sold off most of my gaming magazines (minus PC Gamer and a few others)... the main thing I saved for myself were some of the posters that came in issues of gamepro. Especially the Street Fighter 2 stuff. All in all, it's nice to go back and look at magazines in digital form for a little nostalgia but I don't exactly miss having all those boxes of stuff. So, maybe look at it as a burdon lifted. You didn't care enough to bring them with you so at least you don't have to figure out what to do with them all anyway. Granted NOSTALGIA is a huge factor for me in some of this stuff.. but I'm glad I got the stuff I wanted to keep narrowed down to where it fits in an accordion folder.Lucky. The publisher and owner of Gamefan, Dave Halverson, has made it known that he does not wish for digital copies of his magazine to be made available on any site, and that if they were, there would be swift legal action. So of course, respecting his wishes concerning his content no Gamefan magazines are submitted anywhere. Why is that? Does someone still hold the rights?
This is why we preserve these magazines, I hear this story so many times. My wife/parents made me throw away my gaming magazines. I was moving and couldn't take them. I had them in the basement and it flooded and they were ruined. Nothing compares to holding the original magazine in your hands, but 5000 gaming magazines in a digital format, can fit on a 3TB external hard drive easily.About 10 years ago, I moved. Was super rushed and stressed and was in "throw out" mode to make it easier to pick up and move quickly to my new place. My roommate bailed on me and left without notice, which forced my hand to move due to my finances at the time. Back then, I wasn't into collecting games or anything of the like, as WoW was the only game I played (barf). Anyways, I threw out hundreds of gaming mags, EGM, GamePro, and Nintendo Power dating back to the 90s. It haunts me to this very day. I AM A MONSTER.
Love these archives, took about an hour reading through them at work the other day. Though it made me relive my horrid mistake all over again.![]()
Well, hats off to you and your team for all your hard work. Surely bring a lot of smiles to faces as memories come flooding back. If you can discuss it, I did notice your Nintendo Power archive is no longer on the site. The big N not fond of the idea? This is why we preserve these magazines, I hear this story so many times.
