Nintendo Recalls 3.2 Million Wiimote Straps

I submitted requests for my two launch-day controllers. Might be a good idea if I play the Monkey Ball darts mini-game where you point the remote at the screen, holding it like a dart, and feign tossing it forward as hard as you can. I'm no dumbass, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

As was mentioned earlier, it's NOT a recall. The straps aren't defective. (Simply the people who don't know how to use them.)
So how are there 3 million straps out there is the question that needs to be answered... Considering that places have run out of wiimotes and december shipments already had the new straps that number is crazy
Yeah I can't find a WiiMote or Nunchuck yet there are 3.2 million WiiMotes out there somewhere? I thought you could only hook 4 up to a Wii.

This was the only visible weakness of the Wii Remote, so it's nice to see Nintendo sending these out to Wii owners to replace the thin straps.

It's too bad that they aren't shipping them out until the 21st, so I'll have to have mine sent to my parents' house so I can get over the winter break.

I'm in for 4, and yes I have that many remotes.

I'll put them away and use them as repacements when my existing straps get dirty.

Add me to the "not a moron" club of people who don't toss their remote. Everyone at my work 20+ people who have played my Wii all agree you have to be really dumb to let go of the remote.

Im starting to think there are three possible explanations for this:
1. Kids that are way too young to handle a remote are throwing them
2. People are high and drunk when they throw the remote
3. Kids that are way too young to handle a remote and are high and drunk when these accidents occur are throwing the remotes

I like how every post in this thread is
"This is totally unneccary, only idiots break thier straps, I'm ordering three though"
You guys all have similar mind-sets

I'm getting 3 too.

Cheap Ass Gamer |= totally not hypocritical gamer.

I'm ordering three as well (two for now, one for Wii Play...just in case).
Put in an order, though I haven't had an issue.

I mean, if my nieces - 3 and 4 years old respectively - can manage to hold onto the 'motes in the middle of Wii Boxing, I guess I'd think the issue was smaller than the interwebs make it out to be.

Guess not.
Well, my nieces and nephews (who range for 4-10) think that you need to swing your arms as hard as you can when bowling, playing baseball or tennis. I've tried to explain that you don't need to act like an idiot, but they aren't buying it. The bottom line is that some people will have problems, while others won't.

I'm glad that yours have some control, but the kids I've seen would have done irreparable damage to my house without those straps.

I think that its as bad as people think.

What can I say? Kids are bigger spazzes than ever. Other than that, it's the invigorating nature of the 'novelty' of the control scheme. I'm sure a lot of people are getting really caught up in the moment, not realizing how 'emphatic' their gestures are.

P.S. Ain't no strap strong enough for the inevitable lightsaber game. Believe that.

Oh, they have no control. None. But they manage to hold onto the damn controllers, which is my point all along.

The only issue I truly had with them is that I had to keep telling them to move away from the TV. In their animated fury, they kept inching forward, as they kept sort of marching in place in conjunction with the wild antics of their arms.

The point of this is that the strap is a safety net and should be thought of as such. You should try to hold onto the damn thing to begin with. I reco'nize that might not be the case here, but sometimes I just gotta wonder.

Curious - is this an issue in other countries? That'd be something I'd like to know.

In fairness, I had the controller slip once playing tennis. I caught it almost instantly though, but I felt the strap get tugged though. The simple fact is that I wouldn't have broken it though because I haven't been slinging it around like a moron.

I'm so sick of the topic of Wii wrist straps. It's just about the only press Nintendo is getting and it's brought out a lot of fakers and -- even worse -- dull conversation across the internet. (In for four!!)

Time to give them some ADHD meds then1 That's the cool new thing to do!

We are a country where packages of peanuts must be stamped with a warning that "this product contains peanuts." So that doesn't exactly bode well.
Nice! That makes my flimsier strap rare! Helloooo eBay! (I'm just kidding, but something tells me there will be others who aren't joking)
Lol that reminds me of an auction i saw for the original xbox power wire after the recall. He also was going to include a broken controller(wouldn't stop vibrating) if it went of a certain amount.

Got mine today as well (Christmas Eve-Eve, ie the 23rd). Just openeing it now... they seem, uh, exactly the same? I was expecting dramatically different connector strings. They are still strings. I guess they must be tougher ones though.

The letter has some funny stuff in it:

2. DO NOT LET GO OF THE REMOTE DURING GAME PLAY

...

If your hands become moist, stop and dry your hands.

Damn, they didn't tell me what to do in case I'm in the middle of an intense Wii Sports Baseball game and have to go to the bathroom *really* *really* badly. I better not play until they send out the instructions for that.
