Nintendo Switch Preorder Thread 2.0

Just re watched demo for Fast RMX and i will purchase it for a system. I have not played NEO Geo in a decade. Any thoughts on which games are best for the Switch? It would have been nice if we had the option to purchase the collection w/ a discount.
Fast RMX is awesome and I picked up KOF to have a fighting game to hand a joycon to others to play.

Those puzzles were definitely frustrating because the controls don't work with any precision. I've done at least 3 motion control shrines, and they are brief. But just wait until you do the stealth mission ugh omg. It is the worst. I screamed at the television a few times. Most of Zelda is awesome but then there are a couple of rage inducing shrines/quests.
-Do a rather difficult mission in a rather hard part of the game

-Turn it in

-100 Rupees

Jesus I really love the game, but some of these quests are NOT worth it. I am not done with all the main stuff yet, but I get the feeling I know which stealth mission you are talking about.

Still though, after dealing with the stealth shit in Skyward Sword and another annoying quests (Underwater collectathon with motion controls or that escort mission), this game is FAR more fair all around about stuff. Honestly, even the motion control stuff isn't too bad compared to all the shit in SS (It could be better though, I am not sure how well it works on the Joycons but the Pro controller doesn't feel too smooth with those sections). At least they are brief and optional.

Thank you

I just spent over an hour looking for ONE shrine in the northwest region of the map, and I was ready to put my head through the screen. Then I found it, and it was so  fuck ing clever I couldn't even be mad. Goddamn it, Zelda.

Yeah, a lot of the non-shrine quests literally just seem like things they put in there to force you to explore parts of the world you don't during the main quest. "Hey, we put this thing over there... go look at it." Which is nice filler content, but there are only a handful of sidequests so far out of the 72 that seemed super rewarding.

Fast RMX and SnipperClips probably aren't ever going to see a retail release, right? Pretty doubtful but does anyone know if original Wii credit (sold in blister packs) is redeemable on Switch? I should have bought some eShop credit the past few times it was on sale.

I have until end of the day tomorrow to pick up my switch pre order from best buy. The store has actually called me twice now to remind me of this but i was at work both times so i missed the call. Not even sure if i want to pick it up right now. It would just get put back until Christmas for the kids. No way I'm just giving it to them this early and there is nothing that excites me enough that i want to play it anytime soon.

So should i just get it now and put it back till then? or wait until this fall and pick one up?

If you're not super hyped for Zelda it's really not worth it. The Switch is extremely bare bones. I got 3, one for me and one for each of my kids. All they ask me is why they can't watch Netflix or YouTube on it after they play. It's really a machine for mostly older nerdy gamers like myself that live off the Nintendo nostalgia.

That's the big misconception when it comes to the Switch.  I've been telling versions of this to friends and people since Friday:

It's not a kid's toy.  In fact, it's more of an adult's gaming machine.  This isn't a tablet and you can't let your baby chew on it.  It's more like a small TV, not really a touch screen.   It needs to be taken care of, and a reckless child is going to scratch it up just by putting it in the dock.  It has moving parts.   The controllers and system are not very sharable among siblings.  Frankly, it's just not for small children.   All that Miiverse crap is gone and it has a simple, no nonsense, games-only hud presentation like the 1.0 PS4.

My nephew is 8 and he often asks for help when it comes to switching a Wii U game disc.  The Switch is very much an adult gaming system.  People look at this and they just see TABLET, and that's not what this is at all.

When people think of Nintendo they think of toys. Why would Nintendo lose out on a whole generation of upcoming gamers and gadget enthusiast? Seriously I worry about the longevity of Nintendo (I own stock) because of this. I'm 34 and have two kids 8 and 12. I've tried to make them love Nintendo with various devices and they just don't enjoy them. The switch I thought would work because they love their tablets, but Nintendo just doesn't get it. Atleast they like to play Snipperclips with me.

If you mean the old points cards, I highly doubt it, they didn't work with the Wii U either unless you were in Wii mode. The Wii U/3DS dollar amount cards should work, and if they don't for some reason you could redeem them on a 3DS/Wii U and then merge the dollar amounts when you go to the Switch eshop.

If it's for the kids at holiday, there is ZERO reasons to get it now and put it away. Your unit may have issues, and you'll never know until it's to late. I would guess they will address most issues over time, so you stand a way better chance of getting a better more well built NS closer to the holidays. I also expect it to not sale that great until the holidays, so I'm sure there will be some bundled sets by then as well, so you may be able to get Mario or Splatoon, included at a better value by then as well. Let someone else have it now, who actually plans to use it, or flip it, or whatever they want to do with it.

They don't, and never will. This is the argument I've made since the NS was announced, who is going to pay that kind of money for a very gimped tablet? Yes, it's a console, yes it's a handheld, and yes, it's whatever else "N" says it is, and I just don't see the majority of consumers caring.

I've seen the same arguments over and over, "people buy their kids expensive devices all the time, why not the NS?" Because it does nothing that those devices do! And even as a gaming device it seems OK. Great handheld, not so great console, a "jack of all trades, master of none".

Maybe we don't get it, and this will be "N" return to greatness, but I just can't see the draw of the NS to the average consumer(at least at it's current price), and I really don't see the draw to a dedicated gaming crowd either. I see another "N" only gaming machine that will be a nice companion system to another gaming device, and will only get used for those every once in awhile 1st party titles.

I'm honestly considering selling my Switch for full price after I beat Zelda.  Every iteration that comes after this one will be better.

I just wish there was some sort of a device...let's call it a "memory card", if you will....where I could save my game outside the internal thumbstick.

Same here but I probably won't. My major gripe is with the joy-con desync/disconnect.

I'm very hopeful that an update will allow moving saves to the micro SD. Nintendo allowed transferring from the system to an external drive on the Wii U from my recollection.

Just got back from Best Buy after returning one of my switches because of the screen scratching and joy-con desync issue and the customer service person told me that just today they've had 5 Switch returns and over 40 since they had the midnight launch on the 3rd of this month.  I was there and there were about 150 sold. So they've had closet to 1/3 of them return?  What the hell?  Thats insane.

I would guess most returns are due to either done with zelda and don't need it for another year or not able to sell it for $500+ as planned, rather than desync or scratch issues.  Nintendo-ebay may soon need to make a huge listing of refurbs for $200 like they did for the wii u.  :p

We can debate all day if the NS is worth the price or not, but when a person spends that type of money, they want perfection, I know I damn well would. Dead pixels, joy-con, wi-fi, screen scratching, that is all quality control issues, and "N" just seems more than happy to barely address any and all issues, and if those numbers are correct, I have to assume most places are going to have a similar return problem, and in turn, means "N" is going to have a HUGE problem going forward.

Here's Reggie's latest response to said issues(more sweeping stuff under the rug), instead of coming out and saying there are real problems, and we will work our best to resolve any and all issues. Instead, you get, oh, the problems are not wide spread, complete and utter BS! http://time.com/4696866/nintendo-switch-joy-con-issues/

Did you happen to ask what the main reason for the returns? Was it buyers remorse, was it due to defects? Just based on how much I have seen around the web, 1/3 returned, seems to be about right in regards to how often I see problem issues. So if you happen to go back, I would really like to know what the specific returns where for.

I work in the warehouse of my store and I have yet to see one come back. I'm not saying they aren't getting returned but I highly doubt 40 were at one store

Yeah, that's why I said "if true".

I didn't just start browsing the web yesterday, I know how many untruths get posted all minutes of all days.

She said people were having issue with the joycon not connecting mostly. A lot of them probably buyer's remorse. I'm sure a regular Joe expect the switch to have basics like Netflix, YouTube, and a web browser.

I have no idea why she would lie. It was an older lady who didn't seem to have any interest in gaming.

IT's all FUD.  IT's a fine device.  The dock isn't going to scratch your screen.  Joycon issues are there I guess in some form, but so was antenna gate for the iPhone.  LIke that, largely a non-issue.  We haven't ran into the problem on our 2 Switches yet.   They aren't being returned any more than anything else would get returned.  They still are selling for north of $400 on ebay with stock dwindling.

ON top of it it's a launch device where a million were dumped into the wild already.  What would be a story is if no one had issues.  Too many don't have a feel for large numbers.  And treat every anecdotal problem as the sky is falling.

Next time I'm in my local GS, maybe I'll ask the manager there if they have had any returns, and if so, what where the reasons.

I would hope that a "regular Joe" would do a little research before buying such an expensive device sight unseen, but I can agree, it is more than possible, sadly.

Would anyone happen to know the guidelines and policies for Walmart pre orders?

Ive been to two walmarts yesterday with a reported 3 units each on brickseek and with "limited stock" reflected on their app.

When I went to said stores to get them I was told by employees and managers that they were preordered systems that had yet to been picked up.

Is there a turn around as to when these would be able to be sold on the floor? I know for online preorders they would be sent back to the warehouse, but I was assured that these units were "store preorders" and couldn't be touched.

One store told me April 1st is when they'll be available, the other said they would be held until the person that put money down for the preorder picks up the system indefinitely.

A google search shows the period of holding a site to store order is 7 days, so I can't get a straight damn answer out of anyone.

Anyone preorder from "in store walmart" that would have any insight on this?

I preordered a wii u from in store Walmart. The only way to do it was to put the item on layaway. Idk if they hold those forever until the item is paid off or what but there's a chance those switches are under the layaway program. You might want to look into the details for that.

I believe you are exactly correct. When Walmart was like the last place where preorders could still be placed, I saw it mentioned that you only needed a small amount down, and then it was under their layaway program.

So if that is true, buyers have an extended period of time, as it's not like GS where you have 48hrs to pick something up. At Walmart, it's kind of like a payment plan, but there is a limit of time, I'm just not sure what it is, but it's a long time, way more than GS(maybe 6-12 months).

I went to a Walmart that had 11 and was told the same thing by a suppposed manager. I thought it was BS because the bin location show they are on-hand and in the electronics aisle.

Wal-Mart layaway is usually eight weeks or two months to pay something off.

I ordered from WM, paid in full, in store pick up. When i went to pick up the system on Friday the associates were totally confused. They are used to pre orders with money down. The system was back ordered until Tuesday so I just went back to BB.

Maybe that's the reason Nintendo hasn't made cloud saves available yet. They don't want people to beat Zelda and then sell the system right afterwards. They want these people to keep the system and then buy Splatoon 2 and MK8D and so on.

That is my plan as well.

Here's some screen grabs I took of all of the traditional tunic sets you can get in Zelda!

A friend come over last night and tried out the Switch for the first time.   I had him start a new save file on Zelda and watched him play for a couple of hours.  It was a lot of fun.  It was pretty cool experiencing the system with someone new and hearing his fresh perspective on the hardware and software. He thought it was very much an adult console. His main concern was that he'd only be able to play it when his 2year old was not around.

The 'used' pro controller came in from amazon warehouse deals. Was listed used like new, still factory sealed. I've heard several negative things about amazone warehousedeals, and their seller rating is pretty shit, but I figured I could always return it worst case. Came in wednesday shipped in a fuck ing bubble mailer  fortunately the box was intact. The box was torn near the top at the hang tag about 3 inches, but everything was indeed sealed in new condition.

After several days with the controller I like it. It feels similar to the wiiu pro, but the dpad, triggers, and face buttons are all quite a bit larger, and feel better imo. The matte finish, and textured grips feel quite a bit nicer too. It should be obvious just from looking, but the controller is considerably more comfortable than the joycon/grip.

At the end of the day I'm glad I picked it up for 62 dollars. I think 77 after tax is highway robbery, and honestly not worth it. The controller has HD rumble (which hasn't impressed me thus far), and an amiibo reader, which people often point to these features as the reason behind the higher price tag. What they don't mention is the features the controller doesn't have, like a headphone jack, a touchpad, or pressure sensitive triggers. I'd honestly rather have all the features it doesn't have than to pay extra for the ones it does.

Anyone know of a good (or if it's ok to use) USB to Type C cord that I can use with my an extra apple wall prong to charge the Switch rather than the $30 "officially licensed" ac adapter? Is this one of those things you should just shell out the money for?

Just buy the official Nintendo plug. An iOS charger won't be enough to charge the system while playing, and it'll charge really slowly while in sleep mode.

I probably should not have used a 256gb card as I probably will never fill it. But it was free from the Samsung Note 7 promo.
