i dont see it as a rip off at all, its nothing like the wii it just has a built in tilt motion sensor is all, so ninetindo get the fuck :censored: off sony they took an idea and made it there own. i give them kudos for it to they are allso moving with the next gen phase and watch Xbox will have a motion sensor thingy 2:roll:

there you go.........,,,,,,,, can you read it now?,,,,,,,,
WTF is this?!

I love the Dual-Analog controller. Who cares if it has no rumble, it's completely, utterly useless. And I really liked the longer grips on it.
I'm wondering if Solid Snake is really a retard, or a retard impersonating a bigger retard.
Let's just hope that FOXDIE kicks in about....now.

Wish I knew what you were talking about.

OT: Hooray for someone from Nintendo sticking up for the rest of Nintendo.

Never play Metal Gear Solid?
since ninetindo was the first to have analog sticks they copied off atari's Joystick they just shrank it down
Atari's joystick wasn't analog it was digital.

I just want a plain ol' dual shock for ps3, no motion sensors, but the wireless idea is cool.

I thought the original controller design was great and I was looking forward to trying it, not letting looks cloud my judgement, it's too bad about that though, it's history.

I won't rush to judgement with this controller although it looks like sony is just genuinely trying to get some support back from people who said the original design was so funky. The motion sensors will probably hardly be implemented, as such after awhile you'll forget the controller even has it. I see it being used in racing/ flying games alot but other than that it's not worth bashing the entire company/ console over. PS3 still looks awesome in my eyes, and the controller looks better than playing with a TV remote control looking light gun still, in my opinion. That opinion is even more fortified after seeing the WII in action, noticing that it is not revolutionary at all, quite honestly it looked just like a handfull of lightgun games with an analog control feature...

Because Excite Truck, Mario Galaxy, Red Steel, Wario Ware, Electbits, Wii Sports ect.. can ALL be done with a simple light gun.

The dual shock feels like shit compared to the 360 controller which melts in your hands. Every time I play my PS2 now it is so noticable...

It's silly that their reason for removing rumble was that "it would interfere with the motion sensing". How about this Sony, you make it so the rumble automatically turns off if the Motion Sensing is active?

Or leave it up to the developers. Either way, they should just admit that it's because of the lawsuit.

Hey buddy are you saying that EXCITETRUCK with Reggie's BIG DAMN TRUCK is a light gun game? That means Zelda, SSBB, Wii Sports, Rayman part 57385732, Wario ware, Super Mario Galaxy, Project H.a.m.m.e.r., Disaster: Day of crisis, TH Downhill Jam, Trauma Center, freakin Dragon Ball Z 34573528904, Madden 07, Bomberman, ect ect... are all light gun games?

Damn I thought the ps3 had all the shooting games, well the press confrence seemed to indicate that. Along with RIDGGGGEEEEE RAAACCCER, and historical japanese giant crab battles.

Thanks for telling me the Wii will have nothing but light gun games.;)

The 360 controller is damn good. I seriously thought the PS3 controller would have trigger buttons like the Xbox and 360 controller, since they are great for any kind of game. Everything else really does feel cruddy compared to the 360's controller.
True, exite truck looks awesome...

But, I meant games that utlilize the feature that the controller has been advertised mainly for, thus far.

I agree nintendo has some fun looking games though, I just wouldn't hold them to the light gun feature as much as everybody does. & certainly wouldn't slime sony just because they use a similar feature, It just does not excite me much on either platform.
I don't really consider the dual shock, and then the GC controller to be copying. That's just an example of adapting ideas in the next progression of product.
I agree that Sony stole a lot of ideas from Nintendo, but your wording intrigued me. Whats the difference between copying and "adapting ideas in the next progression of product"?
But, I meant games that utlilize the feature that the controller has been advertised mainly for, thus far.
Yeah I can see what you mean. I do have to admit though. I want to play the new Duck Hunt with the shotgun shell for the controler.

It's semantics, context, whatever. But it's really how the engineering field works. You don't reinvent the wheel.

If for the PS4, Sony had come up with a great way to incorporate motion tracking in their games and system after seeing Nintendo (hopefully) make it work well this gen, that's fine. That's what you want to happen. If your idea works and makes things better, it only benefits the industry if others adapt it to their product in a way that makes sense.

If for the PS3, Sony half-assedly throws motion sensitivity into their controller in the hopes of taking wind out of the sails of an opponent with no previous intent or thought-out plan to utilize it, that makes you look like a copycat because, well, you are.

If we say that "copying" - in a negative sense - is using anything that was used by someone before you, then everything in our society is copied. "Copying" or not, Sony has zero concept of innovation since every innovative part of gameplay in Sony consoles has directly followed that of Nintendo. I was actually going to use examples of the analog stick and rumble as examples of them "adapting" rather than "copying" until I found that family tree of controllers and realized that the PS1 had iteratively thrown those into their controller after the N64; previously I thought the PS2 was their first controller with analog.

Hope that makes sense, it's rather difficult to put into words for some reason.

You want my short version?

If it comes out in the same generation that a competitor pioneered the idea in then its copying.

If it comes out on one or more competing companies in following generations its adaption.

I would generally agree with that. But let's say Sony hadn't displayed their awesome PS3 controller a year ago, or they had displayed a motion sensitive controller a year ago. At least then they would have had it in mind when they were developing their system and games.

What was that quote from the show.. something like 3 weeks ago we added this feature or found out about this feature etc.. Classic.

Otherwise I agree with you.

Shhhh! STFU! I don't want Sony to copy thier design as well and start a forum about that!

If solid snake is being completely serious, he has made me sincerely sad. If he is at all representative, then I have lost all faith in the gaming community.

With that being said, go ahead and nuke Ohio. All of us good gamers may die, but at least we'll snub out that one little pest.

OT - I agree that the 360 controller fits better in my hands but the button placement and sensitivity, IMO, impedes my progress while playing. For example, I'm constantly hitting the right analog button (press down) on accident during frantic multiplayer sessions of GRAW. I have lost track of how many times I've died because all of a sudden I'm in Scope mode... I don't even want to talk about how often I accidentally toss a grenade...

yeah, the sensitivity of the face buttons is kind of rough - the hard plastic could be better. I've never had problems with the sticks though but I don't play GRAW...

O RLY?

Here's a rather confusing family tree:

http://www.axess.com/twilight/console/

 I didn't realize it was that bad. PSX controller retooled to have analog sticks after N64 controller released. PSX controller retooled to add rumble when the N64 rumble paks were released.
Don't forget that Nintendo was the first to go wireless with the Wavebird. Until the 360 controller, the Wavebird was far and away the best controller ever.
Back on topic though, it's about time someone at Nintendo calls Sony out on the obvious.
Agreeeed! Seriously, about fucking time.

After going to e3 and playing games like Red Steel and Wario Ware, I think the Wii controller is awsome. I must say, I had my doubts when it first came out, thinking nintendo would compell developers to make games that featured motions sensing to the point of destroying gameplay as we know it, but then I played Red Steel. That game could probably be adapted to be controlled with a Dual Shock conroller, as the gameplay is actually fairly classic, but it would lose its intuitiveness, and would not be nearly as much fun. The "nunchuku" style controller setup lends itself to "normal" games better than I would have thought.

I think Reggie has rubbed off on Nintendo. I bet Miyamoto drops the F bomb and calls Reggie his nigga.

solid snake is like a limp dick on a fingerless man at an orgy. He has no point and is fucking useless.

Can we not nuke Ohio? I spend my summers there, well in Cedar Point. If you kill Ohio, please think of the coasters! I still haven't gotten to ride Skyhawk yet and next season should prove to be thrilling.

actually i did have a point may i remind you all it was every one else that encouraged me to act retarded.
like many of you all ready were ,its up to sony if they wanna rip off nintinedo let em do it, its not like they copied the nunchuck controller or anything they just added a feature to the controller calm down every one everything will be ok.
if i went on what some of you are saying about how sony is ripping nintinedo, i could say the same thing for all game systems after pong, because all the controllers have wires and pong had wires on the first controller.
by the way that would be so cool to actually see a limped dicked fingerless man at an orgy haha .

but every one please continue with your sad story i will watch and play the worlds smallest violen from a far.:-({|= :puke:

I read through this WHOLE thread... that's how much I don't want to pack. Amazing, isn't it?

Strell, if you nuke Ohio, RF and I will probably haunt you and make you very sad for the rest of your life. I'd imagine the other Ohio CAGs would just be smart enough to leave before the bomb hit, but I'm not that bright and RF would be too distracted playing his KIDTENDOLOLOLOROFLWAFFLES!!!1

solid snake? Your rampant fanboyism is an inspiration to internet putzmonkies everywhere. Well played.

You have to yell ALL the Sony E3 press conference catch phrases.

Massive damage!
RIIIIDGE racer!
Back in the day, people thought this was real.
Giant crab!

We'd send a giant crab to inflict passive damage on you! HA!

Someone please mock-up an image of Kaz Hirai riding a giant crab (steering it with the amazingly innovative/original PS3 controller) while drifting on some raceway yelling "Riiiiiidge Racer!"

Maybe throw in some samurai so it will be historically accurate.

Solid Snake is the dumbest member now on CAG. Its official. I won't even comment on that idiot since everyone here has done an awesome job.

In regards to the PSX controller...
I don't think Ive ever seen the Analog without rumble before. Is that a dip in the joysticks for the thumbs?

Yup, it's the Dual Analog, and the thumb sticks are concave. I used to have one and I much prefer it to any of Sony's other controllers because it has extra long grips. Look here to see what I'm talking about:
