Zack and Wiki beg to differ.
I just beat it with the "real ending" and I have to say that it has to be the best, most hilarious thing ever. This game may make my top 10 of all time list. It was just so out there and my type of humor. And, it never got boring.
With all due respect, finding Gods of _____ in mundane activities is only funny the first two times. Same with getting the exact same phone call before each boss.
#6 was a total bitch.
STOP WITH THE INVINCIBLE BUTT MISSILES YOU WHORE! I smiled when her head got blown off.

The phone call
actually starts changing quite a bit in the second half.
And, I was talking about the ending being hilarious...
I'm 25 and didn't get carded, although the manager who was working knows me.
Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your viewpoint), only he and one other employee has preordered it at that store. Lame for Suda, but great for me!
Only played through the first assassination and obtaining the funds for the next, as I want to finish Phantom Hourglass before digging in to NMH, but thus far, this game reeks awesomeness. The blood just makes me laugh.
Ugh, tell me about it. I eventually figured out the timing, but it took forever.
I'm about to fight #1. What's this talk about a "real" ending? Is that just Bitter mode's ending, or do I have to do something special? 'Cause I've already missed 4 or 5 cards. I still have no clue where the ones from Letz Shake's stage were.
Also, is it just me, or is the Tsubaki mark II better than mark III? Sure, mark III has a crazy-expensive upgrade, but it seems to do less damage (in high stance) or leave you open (in low stance).
The overworld reminds me of Driver from the PSX.
No kidding. I can see why people were complaining about the graphics now. The smaller up close areas look fine, but once you're driving around its jaggies all over the place. For the most part though, the game looks fine. I've only put in like an hour though.
Yeah, I spent forever on #2 and was thinking that I should have used the Mk III instead, but it might have taken even longer since I don't have the charge upgrade. I should probably get that before I finish on Mild though, since I guess we get to keep the equipment on Bitter?
Haven't finished it once yet, but I'd say decent? I'm definitely going to play it again just to pick up more cards and what not (there are some you can't get on the first run through the game.)
Open that bitch up though, it's the best $50.00 I've spent in a while. I can't say the same about Harvey Birdman, still have it sealed since I've been hearing it is like 3 hours long, which means it's going back to the store.

You get to keep everything on your next playthru.
Also, you apparently have the have the Mk III to get the "real" ending option.
Played for about an hour. I did the first assassination, carried some coconuts, and killed as many guys as I could before dying for some cash. I have enough to start the second assassination but haven't yet.
Here's my pros and cons.
Pro
- AWESOME presentation
- Feels like a game version of Kill Bill
- Great Wii controls...thank God I don't have to swing for every hit
Cons
- World map graphics are HORRENDOUS (pop-up and jaggies galore)
- Jobs seem like they could be boring?
- Not really the games fault, but I have a feeling this game will drop in price quickly. Ah well, at least I had a 25.00 gift card :]
Got through 6th and 5th ranked fights (sad and "wha?" respectively), then took a while to get enough funds for the 4th fight, I'll get back to that tonight, I think.
Anyone learn the jumping down attack to tell me how that works? Doesn't say how it's activated. I went with the jumping slash attack for now.

I never figured out how to use it either. The jumping slash is a god send though especial when you fight those people with beam katanas at the end of most levels. Use it, knock them down, and impale them before they get up.
So for the real ending, what do I need? Just all four katanas?
Also: The Mk II is better. I did a few test runs using the last assassination mission, and the Mk III has slower attacks with low stance and weaker attacks with high stance. Unless purchasing the charge upgrade also makes it faster and/or more powerful, the Mk III is basically worthless. Also it's just far less cool.

The Mk III is far less cool?
It's a ing samurai sword, and the way he pulls it out, oh god. I personally think the 4 beams look retarded. And the Mk III doesn't have something at the top of the beam like all the others. It's just beautiful.
Also, I think Mk III is much better than Mk II, I was playing around with Assassination mission 17 or 18 (which ever one happens at the Gold Club, and I get far more kills with MkIII

I think you're confusing "pretty" with "cool". They are very different things.
I think you're confusing "pretty" with "cool". They are very different things.
To you maybe, I find them to be one in the same. The flower is cool because it's marvelous that nature can produce such an exquisite thing. The car is pretty because look at the flames, there's a beauty hidden in the chaos.
But seriously, the down deathmove of the MkIII will kill pretty much everything you see on the screen.

Huh, I tried that same mission and found that I was getting over 50% more kills with the MK II. But when I was using the MK III it didn't have any upgrades (none were available and I didn't realize new suff unlocks after
the # 1 rank match. I just went straight for the ending(s) without returning to Santa Destroy.
I consider the MKII and MKIII to be equally good. MKIII has good overall speed and power while the MKII has a good amout of range and power for killing guys. the thing that makes the MKII suck is that sometimes on first hit it knocks away your opponent preventing a combo.
If I could describe this game in one sentence, it would be this.
No More Heroes is the best PSX game you've never played.
The game is fantastic and has this amazing yet weird retro feeling, notwithstanding the actual 8-bit artwork. It really feels like an old school PSX game (and not in a bad way) like the original Ridge Racer in the way you would play Galaga during the opening load screen. It also reminds me of the pre-Metal Gear Solid/Final Fantasy VII days where a game wasn't trying to be a movie (even if No More Heroes has its share of kickass cinematics).
I hope this really, really sells well and we can get more games that have as much vision and inspiration behind them on the Wii. It's a shame that Suda 51's next game is for the 360 because I'd love to see where he could take the next No More Heroes game.
I'm fighting the 3rd Ranked right now. Without spoiling anything I can say it's the first boss I died on.
I've died twice... Shinobu, and then cause I didn't waggle fast enough in #4.

That dosn't mean that he won't make a No More Heroes 2. He wants to go back and do another game of NMH, so don't be surprised if it happens due to the demand the game now has in the US.
he has at least 2 or 3 other games his studio is working on now anyway.
I've had that song stuck in my head ever since Lumines II was being released. I don't know how many times I've watched the video or listened to the mp3.
Just picked this game up today. What a fine purchase. Excellent style, fun fighting, great characters.
I remember reading complaints about the way the bike controls. So far, I think the bike controls great; it turns nice and sharp, and stops on a dime. The city map is definitely needs work both graphically and in terms of content. I would love to see a sequel with more interesting content between ranked fights, but so far I enjoy riding around the city completing side missions and buying new gear.
There's probably an obvious answer, but why do random fight missions just appear on the world map without triggering them?
Because they're "free fight missions" The more assassination missions you do, the more places that those fights will pop up (with increasing difficulty, of course)
Would you guys that have played it say the motion controls actually help the game, or would you say it could have been done better without them?
This is damn near THE best use of motion controls of any Wii game I've played thus far, and I've played Mario and Zelda, so that says a lot.
Just beat it.... ing awesome.... and the ending even better... superbly over the top ending. Make note though to get the ending make sure you try to get the "Real Ending" or you'll get the shit ending.
I love
How the game makes reference to itself as a game in the fight with Jeane as well as poking fun at the game being delayed or not happening  Also, the last fight with Henry was epic.
I love you suda!
for those who got the real ending
So silvya has a kid with henry named Jeane. ... cliffhanger I'm guessing. Also, originally starting the game when reading the manual I don't know why but I thought Jeane was Travis' ex girlfriend or something...
Beat #3 (wow that was a crazy boss battle), and blew my wad on the Mk III - do upgrades become available for that? I like it and all, but it's definitely lacking power and energy efficiency relative to the Mk II, instead settling for providing hella sweet combo and finishing moves.
Tomorrow I will run through assassination #18 a couple more times to recoup my entrance fee for #2.
Do we know what the requirements are for the real ending? Playing on Sweet and missing a few cards and quite a few balls, I doubt I'll manage to meet them.

again, badass real ending.
Apparently Jeane was Travis' long lost love. But also his sister? And the Darth Vadar like person was his father, but wasn't? The ending was really confusing. But, I agree, the Henry fight was epic and full of every cliche possible. And after the credits, it had the Back to the Future "To Be Continued" which was awesome. I hope it truely is to be continued.

Yes, there are upgrades for the MkIII, but the energy saver for it is $1 million (minus 1), but its description is "With this you'll never have to charge your beam katana again" I'm not sure if that's literal or not. Edit: It is indeed literal, I fought through over 100 enemies, and the energy bar didn't go down at all. Also, apparently if you swing a second time with the deathblow (it has to ahave a certain timing that I have a hard time figuring out, so just swing like made if you really want to see it) you'll get a special powered up deathblow. Triangles appear and everybody blows up. I've only done this with the Mk III though, so it may not work with the others.
Requirements for the "real" ending is all the katanas (or possibly just the Mk III)

also the powered up deathblow is done by swinging the remote in the opposite direction of the on-screen prompt after u do the initial swing, during a specific slow-mo animation window...
example, say u swing left, then he will begin his deathblow and for a brief moment the animation will slow down. Then swing right and you'll get all the triangle stuff on screen.

Ah, no wonder I couldn't get it to work every time. I just thought I was swinging at the wrong time because I got it to work for every side deathblow, but was having trouble with the up and down.
