No more NCAA games

By now, most fans will have heard that EA's licensing agreement with the NCAA is set to expire and that we have agreed to part ways. I'm sure gamers are wondering what this means.

This is simple: EA SPORTS will continue to develop and publish college football games, but we will no longer include the NCAA names and marks. Our relationship with the Collegiate Licensing Company is strong and we are already working on a new game for next generation consoles which will launch next year and feature the college teams, leagues and all the innovation fans expect from EA SPORTS.

We took big creative strides with this year's college game and you’ll see much more in the future. We love college football and look forward to making more games for our fans.

I feel like ncaa will license its name to someone e....could be EA, could be 2k. It doesn't cost the ncaa anything to license out its name. It's free money. I think they made this public announcement to perhaps boost sales of ncaa 14 making people feel like it would be the last one. I'm always skeptical wonder why companies feel the need to release certain information.

The NCAA most likely didn't renew their partnership because of a lawsuit by former and current college athletes claiming improper use of player likeness. The NCAA pulling out is mostly irrelevant because all that changes is the name on the box and the NCAA logo and name missing from the game. The Collegiate Licensing Company(CLC) who handles most schools rights has renewed it deal with EA, but from what I have read, it sounds like individual universities can opt out of this deal and some schools handle their own rights, including USC, Oregon, and Ohio State. I could see a scenario where a major school pulls out because they don't want a lawsuit from former players and their decision creates a domino effect. Even if they are only missing a few major schools, I can tell you that I would not buy the game anymore.

Ohio State is under IMG which is owned by CLC.
