The three thing si liked most about TF2 was this...
1) It was fun. It didn't take itself serious but was focused on fun.
TFC didn't take itself seriously. It wasn't too realistic. It just tried to be fun. Something that's missing in a lot of tactical shooters. They all wanna be CS. Buty it was just complex enough not to be mindless.
2) There's no real TEam in TFC.
It isn't really a Team game, even thought it says TF2. When I played, I guess it could be best described as a commando game. In other words, say it was 16 on 16. On each team, there might be between 2-4 elite players. So, while the other 14-12 did their thing, the two or three elites would really be the ones to get shit done. Either one elite focusing on stoping the other elites or one elite focusing on flag cap. The other 12 players, were basically noise to slow down the true commandos of the match enough so another commando could show up and stop them or exploit the confusion.
3) Defense matters.
You coudl really focus on different defensive strategies. One of the best strategies for Well was putting an HG in either the underwater tunnel or on top of the well. UG tunnel preferably ebcause there are only two entrances into the base and one HG in there would literally make it impossible for anyone to enter from the water. I would use that defense a lot. And then all the medics would cry I had no skill. Which was foolish because most regular players wouoldn't either think of that or I would then switch to medic and steal their flag to show my skill.
But there were a lot of different strategies on Defense depending on the map.
The three things I hated most.
1) There were really only four classes that mattered in winning or losing. Medic for Assualt, Engineer or HWG for Defense, Soldier for a mix of assualt defense, since it was between the two.
Demo used to be great but they neutered the physics of grenades during one of their patches. Now they're Meh.
Snipers are fun but they can always be bypassed. Even an elite sniper has a very hard time stopping everyone and against a good palyer, it'll take two or three tries but he'll eventually penetrate the snipers base by getting by him.
Spy's are nice, but a Medic is better because of Concs.
Pyros are flaming.
Scout are too easily stopped because of lack of armor. Medic is almost as fast and has enough armor to survive one or two hits.
2) Conc jumping is insane. Even after they tuned it down a medic can fly half way across most maps on one conc. It bacame too unbalancing. Especially once script concing became prevalent.
3) LAck of variety.
You can only do so many variations of CTF. Murderball was a nice diversion but they really need other alternatives to gameplay.
