thank you, i had given up before i found this deal
Evilmax and I go 'saling together, so I post our update sometimes. We had a crappy day.
i guess i should have figured that cuz of the first post

GEN - Shining Force (Complete)
NES - Castlevania (instructions and case)
N64 - Castlevania Strategy Guide
===========================
Total = $5

Not too bad for my first sale of the year.

Well today was a bad day for me too gaming wise. I hit up 25 sales and all I got was a Pac Man (Tengen unliscensed cart only) for the NES - .50

I did manage to score a brand new vacuum cleaner for $20 and about a dozen CD's for .50 ea. mostly country (Garth Brooks, George Strait, Vince Gill). Mrs. Snotknocker likes country.

I got outta the CD deal

Eric Clapton - 24 Nights - This is a double live CD recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1990/1991 and IMO an absolutely fabulous CD, incredible, a must for any clapton fan.

Also got Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold and Platinum all these CD were in pristine condition and complete.

I'm heading out to a huge flea market tomorrow, hopefully I'll have better gaming luck then i did today.

oh almost forgot - a kid a one of the sales I hit up said he had a SP but it was at his dad's house. ( I guess his parents were divorced ??? ). He said he got a new one as a gift and would sell me his old for quote "I don't know $15 or $20" I gave him my number and he said he would call me tomorrow. I'm already on my 2nd SP, my first one had some kind of screen burnout and was trashed. So $15 or $20 for a backup, I don't think I can go wrong.

I didn't buy anything yardsaling this weekend for the 1st time this year. I saw an ad that said "original gameboy with 7 games" sale started at 8AM Friday I got to it at about 7:50 & was told that it was sold at 7AM for $25 & that I was the 3rd person to ask about it. Surely it would have been too rich for me if I couldn't have talked down to atleast $10 (unless all the games were killer which I'd imagine they weren't :D)
1 Gameboy Color (teal, missing battery cover)
1 Disney Magical Racing Tour (GBC, cart only)
Paid: $1
I saw 3 GameBoy Color systems as I was out this weekend. One house had 2 marked $15 each & at another house $25 for one boxed. This makes those prices look like highway robbery ;)

I saw a Super Nintendo & 10 games with all hookups & 2 controllers (Super Mario Kart (PC), Donkey Kong Country, Mario All-Stars, Ignition Factor, Super Off Road, Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse are afew of the games I remember seeing) It said $25 so I asked if it was nagosable, they said $20 & when I offered $15 the lady said that she thinks someone may pay atleast $20 for it so she didn't want to do $15 but would if I came back & they still had it at about 12-1 PM. I even tried putting the money in her face when I tried offering $15 but she didn't buckle lol I came back to find out that some lady bought it as soon as I left. I only really was interested in Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse as I have all the other good games in the lot & mostly wanted the SNES as an extra. I'm kind of torn between wishing I had got & and being happy that someone else that wanted it got it as it was still a good deal even though I was hoping to get it abit cheaper but from what they said about the lady that bought it sounded as if she wanted it for her kid to play that used to have a SNES not to resell.

I also saw an old Robocop arcade machine at one sale with no price & it was kind of turned away in the corner. I asked about it and was told that it's not for sale & that the screen didn't work & that they had someone coming to look at it :( I would have been one very happy camper if it was for sale & they just wanted to get rid of it for about $20 as if it was just taking up too much space in the old garage.

Got some good finds at the flea market I went to today.

Power Glove sensor for NES - $5 I got this off the guy I bought the NES Simons Quest off of a few weeks back. He came through. He started off at $10, I shot the look at him, he then said give me $7. We started some friendly gaming chat and when all was said and done. I offered him $5 which he accepted (Now I'm finally powergloving)

SNES - Legend of Zelda Link to the Past (cart only) -$1
Genesis - NHL 94 (complete) - $1
Genesis - XMen (box and cart) - $1
NES - 2 Max controllers, like new - $2

This lady wanted $3 on the Zelda $1 each on the genny games and $5 for the pair of Max's. I put the stuff together on the table after she gave me the prices. I used the cash in face method and she happily took my Abe.

SNES - Super Ceasars Palace (cart only) - .50
Guy wanted a dollar. He only had this one videogame. After 2 offers and the cash in face method he took it

XBox - Conflict Desert Storm (disc only, some smudges and 2 light scratches) - $1
Some young guy had this mixed in with a bunch of crappy PC games. He wanted $3. I offered $1, he replied with gimme $2. I told him it was only worth a dollar to me. cash in face method accepted again.

Simpsons Board Game (sealed) - $1 - no story here. It was marked $1 and well worth it to me

Mario and Luigi Shower nozzle - .25 Asking price was .25 and again well worth it

Genesis System (system only) - Guy wanted $2. Cash in face offer of $1 was accepted.

so all in all not a great day but it did kinda make up for getting skunked yesterday

only 2 finds at flea market today

bubble bobble for saturn 4.00 complete, perfect disc
tee off dream cast 4.00 complete, little scratch

a friend of mine was telling me about a road in kentucky where the people just pull over on the side of the road and start yard saling, its like 10 miles long, marking my next vaction to kentucky

Sorry for the n00b question, but what's this "Cash in the face" method? I'm thinking it's throwing a balled up doller bill in their face, but that's probably not it, right? Is it cash in the seller's face, or cash in my face?

i made my first yard sale trip yesterday. i found nothing. i will not falter, and will not be deterred, however, from doing this again. i had a lot of fun doing it, and can't wait for next saturday.

that's exactly right. if someone says i'll sell it for $20, then you say $10 and throw $10 in their face, that is the "cash in the face" method. it usually works, although sometimes it doesn't. i had a guy who wanted to sell me the star wars trilogy on VHS at a flea market the other day. he said $12, i said $10. well, he wouldn't go down and i didn't buy it out of principle. about an hour after leaving i was pissed at myself for being such a CAG. i should have paid the extra two dollars, but whatever.

Well..You don't actually throw it in their face
The cash in face method is basically lowballing them - and as a tactic you basically hold out the money - and seeing the money will usually put them offered to them *held out as close to their face as possible without being rude about it* they'll accept.
Example:
Last week - a lady wanted 15 dollars for her NES and about 6 games.
I picked it all up, took out a five dollar bill from my pocket, held it out to her and said
"Will you take five for all of it?" and she did =)
It usually works too.

or if the guy is being an ass, you could throw a quarter at him.

i think the one line i hate hearing the most is
these games are worth 50 in store, i just laugh,

check the 1st post in this thread. There is a plithering of hints and tips for yard sales, flea mrkts etc contributed by CAG's who have had pretty good success. It's updated with new techniques and stuff. Evilmax is the OP and he'll update when needed.

That's the spirit. I've been discouraged a few times but not as many times as I've been elated at the bargains I find.

I almost beat down a guy because of the blatant lying...
Gameboy Color and a Game and Watch Game.
Me: "Soo...how much for this?"
Guy: twenny figh
Me: Twenty five? For this? You know the game is only 4.99 at EBGames right? And the their have been already three systems to succeed the one you're trying to sell.
Guy: Ey! I was at EbGames Yesterday! That game is worth 39.99! I'm giving you a deal! Don't tell me what I know!
Me:  ...Please don't lie to me when I know more about this than you do - in any case I've changed my mind about buying it. I hope you don't blatantly lie to another customer the same you tried to swindle me.

Jeez...what a fucker - - The smugness with which he addressed me really made me want to beat the crap out of that guy >_>
The point I think is to undersell the a store - or even give decent to low prices because you're trying to get rid of things you have no use for.
Still steams me up >_>

these kind of sales are common through the region of kentucky, alabama, georgia etc.
this one is the big grandaddy of them all... http://www.127sale.com/ 450 MILES of SALES!!! this years just passed like a week ago... theres always next year tho...

I went to a couple of flea markets, one was selling NES games like Rad Racer for $10 a pop. I though maybe the price said $1, but the lady said no it's $10, I just shook my head and walked off. A little ways down I found a SNES with no hook ups and covered in dirt for $20. I went to a flea market about 15 feet down the road and found a whole videogame section. I was looking for an SNES and found one for $35 with all the hookups and it was extremely clean in a glass case. This was the first SNES I have been able to find in a 30 mile radius. It wasn't that great of a deal, but I was sorely needing one so I bought it. I also picked up a few random NES, Genesis, and N64 games for about $10. I don't even remember what games I got now. I also found the Wrestlemania 17 dvd complete without a scratch for $12. If you have ever tried to find this on amazon or ebay, you know that was a great deal.

Passed on a SNES (bare deck) for $5 at a sale I happened across yesterday. Lots of loose pieces jangling inside when I shook it, maybe I should have bought it to use as a maraca? Still if it had the hookups I would have picked it up, those things are pretty tough to kill in my experience.

I did pick up a Grip N Clip spacejet Megablocks set for a quarter at the same sale. Now I see why Megablocks are worth a fraction of a LEGO set. The freaking cockpit piece won't snap on properly when the junky-ass Megablock man is sitting in his seat.

Got a bag of books for $5 and Go (board game) for $1 at a thrift store later. The Go set turned out to be kind of junky, a MDF board with the grid masked on to it. I was hoping for a wooden board with little nooks. But the Go stones are pretty nice.

I agree yardsales are about getting rid of stuff you don't use more so than making money. If someone has something of value & they want to get all it's worth (or as much as they can get) out of selling it they should be taking a different avenue then selling it in a yardsale.

I found a SNES in box (with styrofoam and everything) at a Goodwill. It had Super Mario World, one controller, and (strangely enough) Golden Axe 2 for Genesis inside, but no hookups. It was $20 so I passed.

Yesterday I saw a local GameCrazy with a SNES that was TORN UP. It was COMPLETELY discolored/yellowed on the top and even had a chip out of the plastic on right corner where the top and bottom halfs meet. They were asking $30 for the thing. That's just not right. If something looks THAT bad, there is NO WAY they should be asking their regular full price for it.

They also had a Dreamcast that looked like someone took a few swipes at it with a pen or knife or something. It's scratched with black lines on the top. They were asking full price of $25 for it too. At the least wipe the thing down with a cloth or something before putting it in the glass case.
bump :)
gotta be some yardsales left...
um.. not in the middle of the week.. people post here on the weekends.. wtf..

I remember some people talking about their finds being more common of thursdays and fridays as well...

I think it depends on the region in any case - but weekends are more likely to give up better yard sales...

i remember one time picking up one of those electric football games from a thrift store back in the early 80s. Got it home dump it on the floor and around 9 huge ass black spiders came flying out of the box. I remember we all took off running screaming out the door why one of our older cousin had to kill them all . Oo the good old days : )

I just spent all morning at the sales. The first sale had a snes and ps1. I picked up the snes for $20 with all of the games. The games games aren't that great but I got them all. I did talk the lady down from $30. I picked up a snes from gamecrazy for $30 a few weeks ago. Do you think I could return it? I don't need 2 of them.

I then visited many other sales without finding anything. Then by chance, I found another sale. At that one I picked up a box with a sega master system and an atari 2600 with a bunch of games for $10. They're pretty dirty and I was thinking of offering $5. It's going to take a crap load of work to get them clean. What was that thing someone recommended to clean games and systems? It was something from Mr. Clean.

I'll get some pics after I clean the stuff. I don't want to put the stuff on the carpet, it's that dirty.

Nice!

Yeah, a 4-pack of Mr. Clean's Magic Erasers will do wonders for you (I'd get the original ones, without the brillo-top). You may think it'll take a crap load of work, but I guarentee this will cut your effort in half. Let us know how it goes!

Yes - I bought a 2-pack and those things are freaking...amazing.
MAGIC! My NES never shone so much ^_^

...actually - why don't you buy a pack and then do some before/after pictures?

I like good old fashion rubbing alcohol. (Plus it's very cheap.)

But I've never tried the Mr. Clean Erasers. I may have to give them a shot. Can you clean the cart's contacts with it? Do you break them up so they fit into the crevice or ?

They're basically sponges that deteriorate the more your rub them until they dissapear. I haven't tried it on contacts but there's no reason it should work. No need to break them up to fit into tight spots either.

Rubbing alcohol used to be my cleaner of choice before I tried these. The erasers are much better for cleaning the outsides of the consoles, but I haven't tried them for the contacts. You can rip off little pieces of the eraser pretty easily, and I would assume that they would work well, but I would try it on something like SMB first just in case.

At your own discretion of course. I would probably stick to alcohol for the contacts, and I would definately hope you try the erasers for cosmetic cleaning.

Don't forget Goo Gone for those pesky stickers/etc. some people put on consoles.

You "can" put it directly on the console. But, in order to keep it from getting inside and messing things up, it's easier to put it on a towel/cloth and then setting it on the sticky area. Let it sit for a minute or two. Then rub off the sticky junk. The longer you let it set and work on the stuff the less elbow grease (rubbing) it take to clean stuff off.

Hrm, we have a conundrum.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sat. Aug. 20 , 9 to 4 p.m. Clothes, costume jewelry, video games, toys, small appliances & furniture, housewares, holiday d‚cor, crafts & more. Garage/Yard sales
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is my hometown, and we have a registry book, so we looked up the family. The only kid they have was born in 1978, which could mean that "video games" means NES/SNES/GEN. Especially since they're selling toys too, they're probably getting rid of all his old stuff, and we'll be less likely to find PS2 sports games (although we could).

But it's at 9. There aren't many sales in our preferred towns, but there are a bunch in this crappy town that we don't like (and it's about 40 minutes away). We usually like to get the long driving done before the sales start, this way we don't lose time during Prime Time (9-11).

Hrm, what to do...what to do. I think we'll stay local this time, and hit up that sale at around 830ish.

We'll see what happens.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That sale that I posted yesterday ended up being run by this white trash family with a pink house. The videogames consisted of a Namco TV-plug-n-play game for $7, Killswitch XB disc only for $6, and a dirty N64 for $15. This started the day with a pretty sour note, and after last week I was almost certain that today would be another crappy day. Not the best of mornings.

Got the 3 portable games at a church sale.

Got the Gen lot from a really apathetic jock-looking 20-something year old guy. His mom had to call him over to the table when I waved for somebody, and he slowly walked over. "How much are you asking for this?" I asked. "Meh. I dunno, heh, just take it." I looked at him, "What really?" "Heh I don't really care man. Like...a buck for the systems...25 cents a game." I offered him $3 for everything and he took it without question. We saw the VB eyepiece and 2 NES games after we bought the Gen stuff, and asked if we could have those too. "Sure man, just take em." Wish most sales were like this.

Moiety is currently reading the Book 2 of The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, and had been looking for the rest of his books all summer. Today was the first day we saw anyone with Goodkind books for sale. The guy had the whole series, but since she already had the first two, she picked up the remainder of the series. He also had Robert Jordon's Wheel of Time series, several other fantasy novels, and tons of Star Wars novels. She was thrilled to see all the sci-fi/fantasy books: a change of pace from the usual romance novels and Michael Crichton books we always see.

Saw the Xbox at one of the last sales we went to. The lady working it immediately said that "it was my son's, but it doesn't work anymore. Well, it still plays DVDs, but the games don't work." She wanted $5, but took $3 without hesitation. I looked and it has a Thompson, and from the 2 Duke's I would assume it's a launch box. I already have an Xbox, so I can have some fun with this one. I'm thinking of modding it (aesthetically), or at least just replacing the drive. I wanted some dukes in my collection, so that's nice too.

Most of the games are covered in rental stickers, and everything we bought (minus the books) is absolutely filthy. It'll take some work but I'll get everything looking nice.

So yeah, what started out as a gloomy day with low potential ended up being a pretty good!

Well, I got some pics.

I picked up that game boy today for $2. I forgot to mention the PE and Freespace I got on Thursday. It's going to be a pain to clean all of that.

That xbox is a nice find, evilmax17. I was really hoping for one of those. My brother and I both want an xbox. He doesn't want to pay alot for one, though, since he's looking at a car right now. It probably wouldn't take a whole lot of effort to fix one of those? Just clean the lense or replace the drive. I've been looking at few of those on ebay.

Also nice find on the sword of truth books. That's a very good series. I've picked up the entire series except for the newest one.

Jedi - Sounds like a great find man! Post Pics!

Evilmax, nice score on that Xbox! It'll only be like $30 for a new drive too!

Only downer about all of this is. It just makes me realize that being broke sucks :(

what really sucks is i got called in to work at 4am, ahhhhhhhhhhh, i have to wait another week now just to go, did get from a pawn shop
night trap (cant tell if rerelease or orginal) cmplete 3.00
burning soldier-3d0, complete 3.00
sim earth-snes-cart only 1.00
xmen children of atom, saturn, cmplete 4.00

I didn't search for any yard sales in any other town, but I didn't see any in mine today, although I did go this big flea market sale thing that happens every Saturday morning. It's pretty big and this morning was only the second time I was there.
I bought:
NOTHING! Cripes, there was nothing of interest.
Some old lady in the place (she has a stand that's there all the time inside) was selling an old model Game Boy for $25, GBC for $30, SNES and Genesis games cart only for about $10-$15, that kind of stuff. All crap, as well. There were a bunch of stands like that. Nothing even remotely close to the stuff you guys/gals bring in.

A few weeks back when I went, I bought the following:

Black GameCube, with Black Controller, and Memory Card 59: $35 (looks practically brand new as well.. or at least hardly used at all) I already have a Cube but I can always use another!

Super Mario RPG in near mint condition: paid $25 for it (that's a lot for a flea market type of thing, but I just sold it on Ebay for $47 so I'm happy :) )

Outrun 2 and Need for Speed Underground 2 for Xbox: $8 each. Near mint condition and complete. Traded them in at FYE for cash totaling about $35. $35 - $16 = almost $20 in profit. :)

I've been having better luck at actual stores than flea markets or yard sales lately. Like with finding factory sealed copies of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (PS2).. :) :) :)

Nothing too great, but i picked up a sega saturn with 2 controllers, 1 of them is a nights controller. 5 games (Nights, virtua cop and some other crap I can't remember off the top of my head) and a like new GTA: San Andreas for Ps2 for 30$.

Nice find. I've been searching all the sales in my are for one of those. No one seems to have one.

hopefully i did this right...not used to posting pics on forums but i used my old photobucket acount for it....any way everything at the bottom i believe totals to $91.25....The n64 games werent bad and i figure to get about $90-110 back on them from ebay since most of them are towards or above the $10 range loose...not sure about the atari stuff...gamecube for now will stay with me as backup, nes stuff will probably be sold...been looking to sell my nes games not add to it;) ...best deal here was probably the mario kart for 2 bucks...couldnt believe it! it looks as if it was barely played...well thanks for reading..later!
Where in the fuck did you find a sealed MvC2??!!?!
A local FYE. A crappy local FYE at that. One that charges like $3 more than they should per game. New games are usually $53! So MvC2 was $33.. heh. They had one copy there, so of course I picked it up. I went back a week later, and I nearly had another heart attack. There it was again. So I picked up another. :)
