One of my favorite vacation spots! I used to go once a year for the August car show, and of course a visit to the Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Waterbury. Did you do anything special up there?
I'm actually going to the cider mill on my way home today. Did not do anything special just a little antiquing some shopping etc. I only had a couple of days up here but I come up pretty regular to get away so nexttime up i'll get a little more adventurous and do some outdoor stuff.

Gas prices are way too high to go around to garage sales. If you run around all day, you might lose as much as you made. Good finds everybody though.

I picked up 5 NES games today for $5. I can't remember all the names. They're sitting on the work bench because they were quite dirty. I know I got a super mario/duckhunt cart, Dr. Mario, Gauntlet, and two others. I didn't need the console and they also had the NES Satellite multititap device. I passed on the Satellite because the contacts for the batteries were so dirty and corroded that I think I would have had to replace them.

I need to find the right way to clean these. The magic eraser is good for marks, but I just need to clean the heavier stuff off of it. I have used some of this Orange Clean spay stuff on some other carts (kept the stuff off of the labels). I woudl only spray little a few drops on at a time. It seemed to leave a residue, though. I'm not sure if the residue was on my hands, the cart, or both. I also had some alcohol and q-tips for the contacts.

One tip for you guys, is to carry some type of hand wipe. Some of the stuff at these sales can be incredibly dirty.

Baby Wipes are always present in my car ^_^
Incredibly useful for whatever actually- great to have handy.

This is a great tip. I actually use some type of anti bacterial hand gel. it's like a waterless cleaner. i keep a hand towel in my car as well. Aside from dirty stuff I also take into consideration the stuff that I may handle could have been touched by some diseased trashy person before me

Added to the OP. :)

Whoever makes next year's thread should make sure to copy-paste the tip list into the first post. Hopefully it'll get people out there sooner.

flea market finds today

SNES system only cart doors missing - $1
The guy said it did'nt work. He wanted $3. I offered a dollar saying I might be able to use it for parts. He said $2. I said "it's only worth a buck to me, anyway have a nice day" He then said ok gimme a dollar. I brought it home and tried powering it up and to my suprise it works perfectly.

Genesis 1 system w/1 controller - $1
I saw this in a box of old stuffed animals and crap. The box was being used to prop up a framed painting. I almost walked right by it but I saw a piece of coaxal cable dangling from the side of the painting so I investigated. The guy wanted $5 bucks. I told him I'll pay a dollar cause five bucks for a system with no AC adapter was'nt worth it. I then said it probably does'nt even work it's quite dirty. The guy just said gimme the $1. i brought it home and presto it works perfectly.

Just an FYI - I remeber last year the weekend after the holiday had a shitload of yardsales.

damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, i have to work again saturday, snot i swear i have not forgot about you. we had a guy get hurt at work, so i have worked 6 days straight, 3am to 5 pm, dont worry i will get it to you, good luck to all the fellow cag, make us proud at the yardsales.
oh yeah i did pick up a nomad for 30 at fleamarket last weeek, i am in heaven, but god i hate paperboy 2, not 1 damn cheat code for it
Nice find - I need to get my hands on a Nomad. I have not seen one ever.

One of the sales near me tommorow is advertising "full-size arcades games", and it starts at 9.

Snot was right, and there are a ridiculous amount of sales for tommorow. With that in mind, it would be too late to start saling at 9 in order to hit this one first. So we're going to leave earlier and hit other sales, but we'll try to hit that one ASAP. Should be interesting!

EDIT: Just gave them a call. It was hard to understand because the husband (who is in charge of it all) wasn't home, and the wife didn't seem to know what she was talking about. It's either 1 or 2 games, one being "Dino Roll" (i guess you roll balls or something), and the other a car game. Of course, it could be a Dinosaur themed car racing game. But I didn't hear anything about "Street Fighter 2", "Smash TV", or "SNK MVS Cabinet", and she said "that was it". The sale was in a crappy part of town anyway, so we won't be going at all. Ah well, good thing we checked in advance, because it would've been a big waste of time on a busy day.

Seems to be true in my area also as I noticed more yardsales then I was expecting to see in the paper last night. Must be considered the last chance to do yardsales for the year for up here around the Northeast so everyone thinking about doing up a yardsale is getting to it this weekend :)

i'm going out tomorrow on a beautiful dixie day. from the looks of the ads, there are only a couple of promising leads. i have one that says: GIGANTIC YARD SALE. . . clothing, books, toys, curtains & much more.i'm probably going to hit that one up first. good luck to everyone tomorrow!

I'm thinking next weekend and the weekend after should be pretty good as well. I've been trying to get my hands on a cheap pinball machine for a couple of years. I remember last year, and I'm not exactly sure but I think it was the weekend after the holiday I almost scored one but the guy was about $200 to high for what I had in my budget. Hopefully this will be the weekend. Good luck to everyone

i didn't find shit this morning. i was pissed off and tired. luckily, i took a nap afterwards, and now auburn is winning! maybe today won't be so bad after all.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tons of sales all over! We hit 52 today, even having to pass up some unadvertised/signed sales on passing side streets. We had a long list to go through, and nearly doubled what we had with unadvertised sales. Today was the second highest day, with 60 yardsales being our most visited in a day.

There were apparently more Sega CD games other than Cliffhanger that we missed. The lady said her son had brought them over and she had already sold a few. The one we bought was the last game there. Never owned any Sega CD games or the system, so it was a cool find.

Vol. 44 of Nintendo Power is one of our favorite issues. For evilmax, it was the Mega Man Enemies Robot Design Contest, where readers' designs were published over 4 pages. Mine was the Mario Paint Special booklet that was included, showing how to make Mario, Link, Samus, and other characters and pictures. I used that thing to death back then. The issue also had NES + SNES controller and Game Boy applique stickers, trading cards (I don't think they continued with them), and a paper model Star Fox (which I had put together long ago).

The first NES has a broken door which I might be able to fix with some super glue (the 2 broken pieces are still there). The second NES was sold to me under the pretense that it was "broken", and hardly worked. I'm guessing that a new 72-pin connector would do it fine, or perhaps a cleaning. The SNES seems to be in fine shape.

Gonna toss the RF adapter with the tape, and the "Game Kleen" (too junky). Might get rid of the SNES controller that's taped, dunno yet.

All in all, a pretty good day. The boxed NES games really made the day worthwhile, but I think we were hoping to find more considering all the stops we made. But you never know what you are gonna find, no matter how many sales you hit. We're hoping to enjoy a few more big weeks before the weather starts to cool!

Since a new quarter started at my college this week, I've had a Fri. and a Sat. class and missed out on the good sales. I spent most of my time in this newer addition. I didn't really find anything. I think most of my better finds have been in older neighborhoods and random sales.

I dropped by one sale by chance and passed on a disc only copy of The Secret of Monkey Island for $5. Another near by sale had a copy of Tetris for the NES, which I picked up for $1. In another addition, a sale had a phillips CD Interactive with a bunch of games for $25. I looked like it was in good condition, but I would only pay $10 or less for that. I can't recall any good games for that system anyways.

Hit up about 30 sales and nothing gaming related. did pick up some board games and a pair of rollerblades as well as some antique depression glass

Only went to 15 or so sales today.

Both of my finds were at sales not found in the newspaper.

For the console lot, everything was in a big bag. I asked how much for the nintendo stuff. She responded 5 Dollars for a nintendo. I asked how much for the lot, and she said to hold on a minute. At this point she called someone on the phone and asked how much she should sell the nintendo stuff for. Once she got off the phone she told me 3 Dollars for each console. So 12 Bucks total and I snagged that lot.

The Game lot came at the very end of the day and just down the road from my house. I asked how much he wanted the the Super Nintendo games, and he told me a dollar per game. I started looking through them and found that most of them were pretty damn good games, so I asked how much he wanted for the lot, and he said $20.00. I figured $20.00 was easily a good price for the lot seeing as how I know Super Mario RPG was worth at least that much.

Not a bad day, I could have went to a few more sales, but I wanted to play some of those games and test out the consoles.

(Edit//PS - Sorry to bite off the Moiety Format of posting, but it just works so well)

(reposted from my thread)

I decided to go on a garage sale hunt today and I stopped at a couple of thirft stores on the way backand this is what I ended up with :

Sorry no pics as I lack a digital camera
Everything from the thrift store has the wierd price such as 9.89

Quest for Glory II : Trial by Fire (In original packaging) : 3.23

Starwars Deathstar playset : Free (Holy crap its amazing! You press down on a button and the deathstar opens up in to a whole bunch of awesome!)

GBA Carrying case : Free (Great condition)

Original Gameboy carrying case : Free (inside stuff a bit sqaushed)

13" TV with Built in VCR : $5 (great condition)

Xbox DDR dancepad : $6 (like new!)

Genesis controller : $2.82

NES Mario/Duck hunt : $1.81 (paid too much?)

Bigass bag of Lego! : $3.23 (about 3 pounds of pure Lego action)

Today I found a boxed copy of Loom at a yard sale. Everything was in it except for the spell book. Included the instructions and the red gel thing that came with it. Unfortunately it was 5.25 disks, still a trip down memory lane.

Also next to it was a copy of Spellcraft: Aspects of Valor, an old looking Ubi Soft RPG game. This was also in the box with everything included. Again, it had 5.25.

The lady who sold them to me, figuring I was a nerd threw in VHS copies of every episode of Robotech.

Since I don't have a 5.25 drive, I'd be willing to trade or sell off the games if anyone is interested.

You guys are so lucky there was a huge yardsale in our neighborhood. The only thing I scored was a really old gameboy for 25 cents and about 20 books for $1. I probably went to 60 different houses, all they had was garbage.

Nice score on that SNES(my favorite system) lot. Sweet deal. Super Metroid and DKC are 2 of my favorite games. Zombies is a great game also but gets kinda repetetive and difficult. Scoriing 2 in one day is amazing. You should have a lot of fun with those games. I would'nt of haggled on the $20 asking price either. Good job. I'm hoping to get a nice SNES score before the seasons over. I've been itching to get my hands on Mana cheap for I while now. Several times recently I had to fight back the urge to buy it on E-bay for like $30 bucks, and I actually passed up a complete one earlier in the year at a sale for $30 I think. If the yardsale Gods could shine their good fortune on me and let me find it, that would make my season complete

I pick up a sega genesis 1 in box with 2 controllers(one in genesis box) it had paper work, the strange thing was it had manuals for super mario world, super mario kart, SNES system ,toe jam & earl poster, snes a/v cables.

All for 8.00 at my local goodwill(I know it's not a yard sale, but I had to brag somewhere!) The sweet thing is that UI was able to replace my wifes genesis 2 model(loose ac wire), and because it was a screw on rfu adapter intstead of a push on one, I got a better picture!

And that two nights later me and my 4 yr. old son beat power rangers: the movie(the 1st game he ever beat)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4: Ninjas in time is one of my top favorite games of all time, please play it and enjoy the awesomeness.

Well, I got my master system cleaned up and running. I picked this up a few weeks ago in a really dirty box. I have a tip for other CAGs. Don't wrap cords in masking tape. Decade old tape leaves a really nasty residue on the cable.
I was having some problems with the RF port. It turns out that had a loose point that my dad was able to solder.

I found the light gun didn't work. I took it apart and this is what I found.

My dad thinks those really corroded things are weights. My first thought was batteries, but there are no connections leading to them. He's going to help me try to fix it. I'm not sure if there is anything I can do for it. I wonder what else I could do with it. The thing was also only being held together by one screw.

Here's a pic of those NES games I picked up a few days ago.

1 Atari 5200 Console
1 Atari 5200 Power Supply
1 Atari 5200 RF Adapter Box
1 General Atari AC/DC Power Adaptor
3 Atari 5200 Controllers
1 Atari 5200 Controller Holder
Games: (All Atari 5200 [with the exception of DK] Cart only):
1 Kangaroo
1 Space Invaders
1 Super Breakout
1 Pac-Man
1 Space Dungeon
1 Football
1 Centipede
1 Jungle Hunt
1 Defender
1 Popeye
1 James Bond 007
1 Pitfall
1 Keystone Kapers
1 Donkey Kong (Atari 2600 Cart Only)
Paid $4.00

Initially when I woke up, I decided I wanted to check out 1 sale which was about 5 or so minutes to my house. It was a community garage sale with proceeds going towards Hurricaine Katrina Relief. Turned out to only be like 3 Houses with mostly clothes and other odds and ends. On my way home I noticed a sign that said Yard Sale Sat 9/11. I thought it was a little odd and continued driving. A little later I see another sign this time saying Yard Sale Sun 9/11. I also noticed it was only a few streets down from my house so I decided to check it out...

There was a bunch of old electronics there and a bunch of random stuff. As I glanced into one of the bags laid out, I saw the Atari Logo. Upon further inspection, I saw that it was a 5200 Console with a bunch of Games and Accessories. I asked how much for the bag, and he looks over and says... "Oh that old thing, well it's broken but I'll let it go for 5 Dollars since there are a bunch of games and everything still." I examined the games, and thought about it for a minute or two, and asked him since it was broken if he could let me get a better deal. He really didn't want to budge too much, but let me go down to 4 Dollars. I gladly take it at 4 dollars and figure I'd most likely sell the Console on eBay for parts, and sell the games as a seperate lot.

I get home and unload the thing into my room. I see all the connections are there, so I plug it, stick in Pac-Man, and fire it up. Much to my surprise it powered on perfectly, and the Game booted up just fine. I plug in the controller, and find that it is totally unresponsive. My heart sunk at this point. I decided to check online for some repait tips and fine out that the Unresponsive controller is the most common problem with 5200's. I follow an online guide and clean the button connections points in the controller, and find that it works like new! So now that I've got it going, I'm definitely going to keep it.

Thanks Snot, also if you have any Gamecrazy stores near you check them out for Secret of Mana and any other RPG's since many of the SNES Games are dropping to $4.99 there.

couple of flea market finds today

DK64 stradegy guide - .50
Bomberman64 stradegy guide - .50
PS2 Hitman2 -disc only light scratches - .50
(lady was asking $2 per guide and .50 for the game?????? I offered $1.50 for everything cause the guides were a little beat up - she took it

PS2 multitap - $1 (guy wanted $2 but snapped at a dollar I don't even think he knew what it was)

Genesis/master system game converter cart - $2
Guy was asking $2 and i was so elated to find this I could'nt get the cash out quick enough.
I knew these things existed but had never physically saw one. My Genesis is always hooked up but I often get the urge for some MS gaming and have to hook it up. Well not anymore. This little gizmo really made my day.

Friday

World Series Baseball 95 Complete (Genesis)
NFL' 95 Complete (Genesis)
.50 For Both

Both were marked .50 I offered .50 for both of them and it was cool sellers.

Dino Crisis Versus Guide
.50

Saw this at a sale with no price on it. Asked and the lady said $1 so I offered .50 for

it.

Star Ocean The Second Story Prima Guide (missing 3 pages) - $1
Cool Spot (Genesis) - $1
Rocket Knight Adventures Complete (Genesis) - $2
Vice: Project Doom (NES) - $1
Dragon Spirit: The New Legend (NES) - $1
Fatal Fury Special (Top of Label Torn Off) - $2
$8 Total

This stuff was actually from a pawn shop but I figured I'd throw it in since I stopped by the Pawn Shop while I was out looking for yardsales. This is the kind of pawn shop that has most of it's games marked with different prices that were decided on by looking online. All the games I bought were what was the asking price as the Genesis & NES stuff was all priced the same with genesis games being $1 for cart & $2 complete. The only thing I even haggled was the guide book as the lady wanted $3 to which I pointed out that it was missing pages & she finally gave in and said I'll give it to you for a buck. My friend has told me that he tried to get stuff cheaper before at this place with no luck so I didn't even want to try any haggling...they are probably actually losing money on games at this pawn shop with as many games as they were sitting on as they seemed to be trying to milk every game for as much as they think they could possibly get as long as the right sap came though the door ($5 N64 wrestling games anybody :D) they also had abunch of games & systems scattered all over that weren't on display that costomers could clearly see behind the counter with all the games for sale very professional lol

bally controls 4x (not even exactly sure what these are)
Coleco Racing Wheel (which I forgot to take a picture of)
Coleco Expanion Module

.50 for all

The guy running this sale told me that he sold a Colecovision system a week ago but said he had some stuff still. Broght over a bag that said .50 pulled this stuff out and was explaining to me what it was to me. I looked over it and figured what the hell I'll take it. I didn't even try giving him a quarter for it all as the cheap yardsaler in me was telling me to as he was really nice & was a goofy older fella selling off all his stuff sorta like a car salesman but was selling it all cheap so I figured I'd pay what he was asking as it wasen't gonna break the bank.

Atari 2600 System with Cover
Colecovision System
Colecovision Controllers 2x
Power Plug that goes with Colecovision
Plug that I'm hoping is the right cord for audio & video :)
Miner 2049er Game (Atari)
Paper Cover for some Baseball game on the Colecovision controller's # pad
$5

Stopped at a yardsale with an older gentleman that looked about 70. I asked if he had any games although I really didn't think he did & he said he had an Atari in the garage that he didn't even get out. Poor old fella went sifting though a messy garage & pulled it out only took afew minutes as I was worried that it may take forever and didn't really want to inconvenice him. Looked in the box & saw the Colecovision under the Atari which had me sold since I used to have one way back & was wanting to get one again but not for what they go for on eBay. Took it up to him was hoping he'd say something like $2-3 he said he wanted to be fair and said $10 and I offered $5 which he took. After I troubled him I would have felt bad shooting back at him with something like $2 as a counter offer after I had him dig it out so I thanked him & thanked him for his trouble of getting it out as I left.

Saturday

Playstation System with Power Cord & Sony Brand RF Adaptor
Duel Shock Controller
Genesis Model 2 System
3 Button 1st Party Genesis Controllers 2x
Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt
$4 for the lot

1st thing I did was hit a community yardsale afew towns over. Hit up a ton of sales in about 2 hours (about 30+) & found almost nothing game related, at the one house I talked to the lady running the sale for afew mins as she said she had a SNES & 11 games that she sold about 20 after she started. After finding almost nothing game related & buying nothing on the way out I saw a sale just around the corner I almost missed so I turned around & pulled over & saw all this stuff. The Playstation was marked $4 asked about it & the kid offered the Genesis for $1 so I asked about taking all of it for $4 and he had no problems & let me have the SMB/Duck Hunt cart that was also sitting out.

Metroid
Dragon Warrior
StarTropics 2: Zoda's Revenge
Contra
Life Force
Jackel
Rambo
T&C Surf Designs
Operation Wolf
Formula 1: Built to Win
Joust
Airwolf
Mega Man 2 with Dust Cover
Ninja Gaiden with taped up Dust Cover
$4 for the whole lot

As I was leaving the community yardsale in the next town over I passed by a yardsale on the main street that I remembered seeing earlier. I figured it was gonna be nothing as it looked like abunch of kid's clothes but turned around & went back as I remember ppl in this thread saying never to just drive by although I almost decided not to go back I was glad I did :) On a table was 14 NES games all marked .50 I took them up to the girl running the sale & asked if she would do $3 for all of them to which she though about for a second & said $5 to which I said how about we meet in the middle and do $4 to which she laughed and said ok. I was surprised at how good most of the games (although common) were & more so that they were still sitting around at 10:30 just waiting for me to come and pick them up :D

Shadowgate with manual & Nintendo Dust Cover - $2

Asked at this sale if they had any games when I didn't see anything game related to which the guy said we have a Nintendo & afew games but we took it inside as we didn't think it would sell shortly after starting the sale as it didn't have any controllers or hookups from someone that barrowed the system & didn't return this stuff. I said I wouldn't mind having a look at it so he went in and grabbed it. His wife came over and started talking to me during this time and can't remember how it came about but she decided to mention to me how she paid x amount for the system back in the day & $50 for each of the games. The guy brought the system over & it said $10 on it, I saw Shadowgate & have been wanting to get it so I shot them an offer of $2 after what the lady said thinking that $1 would be too low. They took the offer and asked if I wanted the system & said they could give me the rest of the stuff if they found it but I really didn't want to haggle over a NES starting at $10 with little with it so I was off. The guy also had a bag in his hand when he brought out the NES stuff that looked like the manual & papers that came with the NES I actually wish I would have offered him .50 or a dollar for that stuff now that I think about it.

PGA Tour 96 Playstation Game Complete
$1

Marked $2 Offered .50 and the lady said she could do a dollar as it was some relative's who wasen't around. I checked afew other sales on the sale street didn't see anything & figured I'd buy it since I'm a sucker for the big cases & to not make the last stop of the day waste :D

I also asked about videogames at the one sale I stopped at on Friday & the guy's wife which was nearby said that they have an Intellivision & about 8 boxes of game stuff that's just been sitting around that they wanted to get rid of that they didn't bring with them as they were at a public park just off the main road & not at home. We swapped numbers and the guy actually called me tonight & asked what was up as he said he'd be selling it all in a public auction soon if I wasen't still interested. I will be stopping by and having a look tomarrow here's hoping for the best.

BTW congrats on some of the finds this week especially the SNES stuff it's nice to see some SNES lovin' at the yardsales :D

Nice! ...So jealous. I actually just bought Zoda's Revenge at a game store by itself for $5 two weeks ago. Those are some real quality titles.

No game related stuff for me, but then again we only hit one sale on Saturday. It was an estate sale, which was a bit creepy. Especially since they were selling unused food in the kitchen.

Anyway, I got 4 cassettes and my wife got 4 gold-rimmed champagne glasses

I got

Styx - Pieces of 8
Def Leppard - Pyromania
Queen - Greatest Hits
Alice in Chains - Unplugged

Total: $1

Champagne glasses were $1 each

Finally, a good garage sale score for me:
