Many clouds in the toxic waste capital of the world today. I don't even think I'm gonna waste my time going out today. Well I hope it's sunny where you guys are and you can score some deals today.

Hey camelking what's up with the RKA?

The forecast is all rain up here. It's been rainy since last night: I think remnants of one of the recent hurricanes. There were a lot of sales listed too, so it's disappointing to know that they are more than likely going to be cancelled. It's not raining right now, so we are still gonna go out in a little bit, take a drive around our city, and forego the other communities we planned to visit. We aren't expecting much. Hopefully others will have good luck today!

1 Bill Barker's Trick Shooting (NES, complete)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Surprisingly decent day for such a washout. There were tons of advertised sales, and we had a pretty big list for the day. But as expected, it was rainy and crappy out, and we only managed to find 6 sales for the day. We were going to make our usual route, which is to start in a nice town that's about 40 minutes away, then work our way home. Instead we just stayed close to home, and we were only out for an hour and a half. Everyone will probably have their sales tommorow if it's nice out, so we'll be heading out tomorrow too.

Given the circumstances, we asked everyone if they had game stuff today, and it's a good thing we did. The SNES/NES games were hidden away in a corner of one particular YS that we missed the first time around, partially because some old lady was bending over in front of them.

We've never used the Cash-In-Face method before, but we found it very useful today. They were asking a buck a game, but I brought it up CIF and said "Would you take 3 for the 6?". Her eyes lit up when she saw the money, and was already reaching for it before i finished the sentence. Always nice to add some boxed NES games to the collection.

Found the RadioShack thing at an estate sale, marked $2, CIF'd $1. The guy's hand was on the dollar before I even finished my sentence. Too funny, yet surprisingly effective. I'll keep it in the repertoire from now on.

Asked the first sale we went to for Legos, and the lady went inside to get a decent sized bag (not as big as the box we got a week or two ago). Offered $5, but she said she was expecting a lot more than that. So we left.

We'll probably be heading out tommorow, since today was practically non-existant. If we get some sunshine then I bet the YS's will be abundant, so here's hoping for that.

I decided to hit a pretty big community sale. The newspaper said 50+ Homes, 7AM-?, and that maps were available at Vons. So around 7 I show up at Vons and grab a map, I thought, "Wow this is great, they've done all the work for me." It turned out to be only so-so. Probably half of the houses marked on the map weren't even participating for whatever reason, so I probably only went to around 20-25 sales.

The second house we went to had the genesis games. I grabbed a few and asked how much for the games. The kid said 25 cents each. So I took all that I could find and went to pay, but the Kids mom looked at the games I had and said "Oh, those are a dollar a piece." The kid then butted in and said "Mom, those are a Quarter each, they're genesis games." After that the mom says. "Oh ok... I guess that'll be $1.50 then. I didn't even know people still played those." So I gave her my $1.50 and left quite happily.

Later in the day, my brother picked up Angel Seasons 1 and 2 and CSI Las Vegas Season 1 Complete on DVD, all for $20.00

Not a bad day, if interested, that Instruction Booklet and a few others will be or have been added to my Tradelist, as well as Cart-Only: Desert Strike (Gen), Super Mario All-Stars (SNES), Donkey Kong Country 1 (SNES), and Zombies ate my Neighbors (SNES) will also be added.

Well..
I got a Rubber Bowser figure that's about seven inches tall for a dollar.
Dreamcast
Shenmue (Complete) $1.50
Shenmue II (Complete) $1.50
Playstation
Alundra 2 (Disc Only) $1.50

Meh =\ - I wish there was a a way I could print out covers for Jewel cases.
Someone was selling imports at a YS?

I didn't realize it but on the back there are some European flags.
I thought that the case looked weird - both are thick cases inside of a blue-ish box.
The score of the year is STILL the dreamcast store display imo...
Yeah =/
When I was buying those games I thought Alundra was the steal. I had no idea Shenmue II was import only for the Dreamcast.

Was raining lightly off and on from about 8-10 area my area also this morning but I went out & it seemed as if most people were still up & running.

The steering wheel is a Colecovision steering wheel which I actually picked up last week & forgot to include in the pictures I took. To the right of the steering wheel is a petal that goes with it.

1st YS buy about 8:30
Chevelle - Wonder What's Next - .50
Bush - Golden State - .50
Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix - $2
$3 Total

First sale I hit up for the day as it had PS1 & PS2 games mentioned in the ad in the paper. Wanted a $1 for the each of the CDs offered $1 for both which was happily taken. They didn't have any Playstation games out yet when I got to the sale (all 2 of them :D) so I asked about the Playstation games. When I asked about Fear Effect 2 the lady asked how much I would offer and I went with $2 to which the lady said ok to. I would have went with $1 but something told me it would be abit to lowball on this one with the lady asking me what I'd offer without anything to start with price wise.

2nd YS buy about 9:30
Tiny Toon Adventures 2 (Gameboy) - .50

.50 was the asking price on this guy.

3rd YS buy about 10
Sonic Spinball Complete
Sonic & Knuckles
Hard Drivin'
Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition (some wear on the label)
$3

Wanted $2 for Sonic Spinball & $1 for the other three that were cart only. They also had a Genesis model 1 ($8), 2 more complete games & one more cart game. I offered $6 for all of the genesis stuff to which was too low for them so I only took the four games I was more interested in for $3.

4th YS buy about 10:30
Zelda Collection Complete - $1

Went to an Estate sale & the last house I hit up at the end of the street was the only one that had 1 game related item but it ended up being very nice. Asking price was $1 & the disc was spot on as Gordon Ramsey would say. It also had the extra papers that come with every GameCube game. I'm starting to think that 10:30 is my time for mid/late morning lucky finds as that was also the time I found some NES games last week.

5th YS buy about 11 (not pictured)
VCR - $1
16 inch Monitor - .25
Spinning CD holder - $1
Old Sony TV with VHF connections - .50
$2.75 Total

Found this stuff at a church sale. Couldn't believe how cheap some of this stuff was & I ended taking junk I shouldn't have. They had about a dozen monitors & I was temped to pick up afew of them but just went with the only 16' I saw. I picked up the TV as I figured it would be handy for old game systems that go with the VHF hookup.

Total spent for the day - 10.25

The yardsale bug wasn't satisfied yesterday (due to rain, cancelled sales), so for the first time ever we went 'saling on a Sunday, hitting 27 sales (including a flea market). It wasn't looking so good for most of the day. In fact, all our finds were after 11AM. But it ended up being quite a Sega day!

Today was a day of overpriced videogame sightings. At one of our early sales, they had: a Game Boy Color w/ Pokemon Silver marked $10; an N64 w/ 2 controllers + 12 games (commons and Yoshi's Story) asking $30 (and unwilling to sell games separately); a (mangled, duct-taped) boxed Game Gear w/ Sonic II for $7, of which we offered $2 and were declined. They also had overpriced Harry Potter hardcover books priced as follows: Sorcerer's Stone ($3), CoS ($5), PoA ($7), and GoF ($10). Eesh. At a later sale, we saw another Game Boy Color, asking price $10.

We also took a chance at a flea market that runs during the summer about 15 minutes from home. $1 per person admission. We certainly hoped it wouldn't be a waste. It's a huge flea market, and we saw a lot of dealers with videogame stuff. This is where we picked up Puzzle Fighter. A guy had a small table of NES, GEN, and SNES games. We noted the stack of 6 Mario/Duck Hunt's as he told as games were $5 each no matter what. Puzzle Fighter, which was the only Saturn game, was behind us on another table, and we didn't even see it at first. The upper-left hinge is broken, but the manual and disc are in mint condition. We tried to talk him down from the $5, but he wouldn't budge. It didn't matter: we knew we were buying it anyway. Definitely an unexpected find, but a great addition to the Saturn collection.

One dealer had games from practically every system, including 3D0 and TG16, and of course NES, SNES, Atari, GEN, PS2, and PS1. He even had a NES top-loader, which was neat to see, but was marked $80. He had the most variety of items, but also the most expensive.

Surprisingly, many videogame dealers had PS1 long-boxed games in mint condition. Certainly we did not expect to see any, let alone in that condition. And judging by the poor condition of most of the games we saw (ripped labels, faded as if left out in the rain), this was a remarkable sighting.

Been a while since I went to any Sales, but the last time I went turned out good. For $10, I bought 4 XBox games worth $8 each. profit of $22. And I know it sounds bad but look out for any Mary kate and Ashley olson games, They suck but they have great sell back. I bought the gamecube version for a quarter and sold it to gamestop an hour later for $5 cash.

snotknocker, i swear i aint forgot will be sending it out tuesday, you should have by end of the week

did not find one damn game at yardsale this weekend, not even any thing close

Could someone give me a little advice about what to look for other than cheap systems and cheap current games. I am familiar with the values of 90% of the three current systems games, but have problems with gmaes from other systems. Any advice?

Read this entire thread is my advice, even though it's long. You'll pick up tons of tips and see the types of things to look for.

Ok, well its nice out today. Theres a church sale and a community sale both within about 2 miles. I can hit both of those and get home in time to make food to have during the games. Wish me luck and good luck to all of you who head out.

Ready to Rumble 2
Shark Tale

got this off a little boy and girl w parents who were clueless. The kids were really cute and although it was $5 more than i really wanted to spend. the mother said make an offer, the little kids were just glowing in eager anticipation so I offered $10 and they agreed. The kids were jumping up and down all happy and shit. I'm such a sucker sometimes but at least I made those little kids day.

N64 Rugrats the movie game - .15
N64 RF NIB - .25
This was laying in a pile of other stuff on a blanket I asker how much and the price I paid was the price they asked

All in all I don't think i did too bad today.

First time out, I hit up about 12 yard sales, didn't find much, but picked up Earthbound for 50cents. I must say finding earthbound for so cheap has me bitten by the yardsale bug. I think I may start going out every weekend myself now.

I didn't find to much.

A+ book $1
Star Wars Droids tape $0.5
Sonic 3 $1
Populous $4 (It's the first non sports snes game that I found complete.)
Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal 2000 for $3 (I thought those looked interesting)

Here's what I found last week.

NES powerpad $2
keyboard $Free (found that in the trash ) I've been wanting try that type of keyboard.

One thing I've found is that good mapping software is a must. Mapquest is okay, but I use some mapping program from delorme. You can get a lot more detail and plan routes. I also want to say that having a remote starter is nice for driving around to all the sales.

I'll have to second that, it may be something good to add to the tips. I myself use Microsoft Street and Trips 2005. You can use it to plot multiple sales on a map and then have it plan out an efficient route for you to take. You can also get directions from house to house.

I tried a new area today, not too much luck. I picked up a SuperGameboy and Tiny Toon's Wacky Sports Challenge for a cool dollar. Late in the day I stopped by a sale near my house, I didn't find much except for a McDonald's Happy Meal Sega Toy Game. I asked how much she wanted for it, and she ended up just giving it to me.

I didn't get much video game wise I'm not even gonna bother taking a picture lol I went to a town nearby that was having a community sale with about 200 sales. Must have hit at least 100 of them if not more!

Super Mario World - Complete
Super Mario World & Super Mario All-Stars Cart Only
$4

Afew misc games in a box at this sale from NES to PS2. The prices were high as I don't think the person who priced the stuff really knew how much games can go down in value, they had Madden 2004 for $20 which is probably a world record for highest price on a used PS2 sports game at a yardsale :D. The complete Mario World was marked $5. I offered $3 for both to which the lady said I'll do $3 each as she misunderstood me and I said no I meant for both. She said 5 and we agreed apon 4 which was doable for me as I actually lost Super Mario World somehow and needed it.

I also saw a VirtualBoy with 6 games $30 (4 of them imports) at about 11:15 at 1st I offered $10 the lady wouldn't go any lower then $25. She called her son who owned it to see if he would do any lower. When she got off the phone the price went up from $25 to $30 with no more give as I guess it wasen't cool with Jr if she was really calling him lol She also told me that a kid with his mom were gonna buy it which I though was BS. I stopped by at about 1:30 PM for one last try before I left town surely enough the kid & his mom didn't come back for it. I tried the cash in face method ($20) & nothing so I wished her luck selling it :)

I did get 14 CDs from afew different sales that costed a total of $10 (prices per a CD ranging .50-1.00)

Filter - Title of The Record
Our Lady Peace - Spiritual Machines
Bloodhoundgang - Hooray
Godsmack - Awake
Stabing Westward (S/T)
Machine Head - The Burning Red
Cold - 13 Ways To Bleed On Stage
Orgy - Candyass
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine (real happy to get this one cheap as I lost my copy years ago)
Dropbox (S/T)
Fear Factory - Obsolete
Life of Agony - 1989-1999
Seven Mary Three - American Standard
Toadies - Rubberneck

Generic chess set complete with all 32 pieces - .25

And last but not least a free VCR with a remote :D

Nice to see afew good finds late in the season. I don't think I'm going out next weekend unless I see anything that mentions video games in particular in the classifieds.

Nice find! Easily the best of the week. Just don't get discouraged if you don't get lucky like that again anytime soon, as one could hit well over 1,000 yardsales & not see Earthbound at all let alone for an insane price like that ;) Do expect to see your fair share of Ford Racing, PS1, PS2 sports games for maybe even more then they would go for at EBgames if you do continue to yardsail :D

Nothing video game related for me, but I did find some stuff I've had my eye out for. Got a cassette adapter for the iPod (wanted one for a few weeks) along with a stack of books and this odd semi-Jenga like Bandu game for $5. And a microwave along with a nice Caphalon serving tray for $6 at another house. John Cotrane - Blue Train and a Miles Davis album on vinyl for $1 at a third sale. I really want to get some frames or some sort of other system to display some of the cool vinyls I've picked up. Just a few odds and ends other than that.

I actually only saw video games at ONE sale and that was a single N64 game and a single Mac game. By far the least video game stuff I've ever seen on a Saturday. (I haven't bought anything video game related plenty of times, but I generally see it.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for such a late update, CAG's been having troubles at my place for some reason.

Hit 41 sales today.

For some reason I undervalued the TI-99 pick up when we first got it. I was kind of like "meh", and just put it in the trunk. When I was looking through all the boxes I felt better about it, I have no idea why I wasn't excited about it when I got it. Nice to have a pong-unit too, it's my first.

I had kind of an opposite effect with the TG stuff, long story with that purchase as well. We pulled up to the sale, didn't see much of anything, and was about to leave. The guy there asked me what I was looking for, and I gave him the full shpiel.

It turns out that he worked for Electronic Arts until 1996, and then at Atari until their MA branch recently closed down. He also programmed the firmware for the NES powerglove. So he brings out a big box with the TG and GB stuff in it, plus a boxed DC, and another DC and peripherals inside of a DC backpack. Also a Genesis arcade stick.

He says make an offer, so I offer him $20 for everything. He says "I'm not crazy". So I tell him I have 2 DCs already, so lets take all the DC stuff out and keep it at $20. So he has to think about it for like 5 minutes, all the while I'm talking to him about games and telling him that I don't buy to resell, rather I appreciate everything that I buy. "All this stuff is going to a good home" I told him, and I wasn't lying. So after pondering it for awhile he says fine, but he can't believe he's giving it away for so low. So I put the TG16 stuff in the big box, then the GB stuff.

"What, you're taking the GB stuff too?" "Yeah" I say, "Everything but the DC stuff."

"Oh man, you're killing me." he says, as I continue to load. I get to the Gen stick and he says "That too? Come on, I just cut you a bargain, throw me a bone and give me $5 for the stick and 2 games." I couldn't just say "No I'm just going to take them, that was the deal", so I just said that I'd leave them for someone else. So I put the stuff in the car and ask him if he has any cool insider-stuff in his house.

He takes me on a small tour. There wasn't anything spectacular, although he did have a powerglove inside of a specialty made suitcase (it was like that scene in The Wizard). Showed me a bunch of games that he'd worked on in the past. So after 25 minutes of talking with this guy (more of him talking and me listening and waiting for a way out), all the while moiety waiting in the car, we leave. So I'm looking at the games we got (I hadn't even really looked at what was there), and I see Y's. "SWEET! IT WAS WORTH IT!" I say, and for a split second I thought "what if the game isn't in there". Sure enough, it wasn't, and it wasn't in the TGCD either. So we did something that we've never done before.

We went back.

We drove back to the sale (we weren't that far away), and I asked him if he had any idea of where it was. He looked in his garage for a minute, but came out empty handed. He took my number and said he'd call me if he found it, but I'm not expecting him too.

I was feeling awful after that, weighed down by buyer's remorse. $20 was a lot to spend at a YS by our standards. I never had a TGCD, and I know that they're fairly uncommon. Plus I have all of the essentials for playing a great game of multiplayer bomberman. I dunno, the remorse has subsided since we've gotten home, but that missing Y's was such a kick in the stomach. One of the best games on the system, and it was missing. UGH! It's...undescribeable... If I ever find a disk-only copy, I'll have something nice to put it into. But that'll never happen.

I figure the nice and mint TGCD is better in the long run than $20 is. They go for $120 on ebay, not that I'd sell it, but it makes the purchase a bit more comforting.

I was talking with moiety last night about what I hoped to find during the rest of the season, and the main thing was a Sega CD (haha that went to you this week Snotknocker!), but I had completely forgotten about the TGCD. Seeing it today brought my earlier words to mind, and in a blind moment of "Wow I can't believe I found one", I bought. Probably would've regretted leaving it there, and I'm somewhat-but-not-really regretting it now. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. If I had Y's I probably wouldn't be this disdainful.

Ah well. Glad to see some new faces in here, hope they stick around. I'm surprised at how many sales there have been lately, and I wouldn't be surprised if we make it through the end of October. I'm waiting for it to start dropping off again (and then for good), but it hasn't yet. Here's hoping for a fruitful end to a great season.

And here's to luck for all of you as well.

all i found was a steering wheel for 1, its for the ps1, and imo was one of the bettter ones, made by mad catz, i had one when ps1 first came out and gave it away, glad to get it back. i swear i am coming up north, i have looked for a tg for months, i have seen so many segacd not funny, oh well.

i was thinking starting next spring we will see alot of ps2 and xbox, what do you guys think

All of you are so lucky! I spent an hour online last night finding every garage sale I could in my area. I found thee different community garage sales (10 + in one area) We went to the first three houses on the list and there was no GS! We asked the owners what was going on and they all said. "Oh! That was last week!" Seems my local paper thought it would be funny to leave old GS in there but change the dats on them. To make me feel more like an idiot its not the first time this has happened. I got amazing deals on books! tons and tons! I got wonderful deals on empty DVD cases too, but when it came to video games nothing! I found a ducktales NES game for $5. I found a broken gameboy ( orig. ) for $1 and a working one for $15. I need to find a new area to visit. Maybe even move out of state. I would be so happy if I could find a virtual boy for 20 or less. It's a sick hobby but I like to collect good ideas gone wrong. ( BK pokeballs)

Thank you! I'll be cheking the pawn shops until my next weekend off, but I won't give up.

Ive posted to this before (if you remember the Panzer Saga $2) and by no means can match evilmax's ridiculous (long time fan, great finds my friend)....I hit about 15 garage sales before I had to work at 12:30. The first one showed promise, as I got a Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark and PacMan board games for a buck. The next 13 sucked, as the closest I found to a video game was Sonic the Hedgehog, not for resale and a PS1 for 10 bucks. The last garage sale, and utimately the one that was to make me late was the one Ive been looking for all summer. For $20 I got:

Atari XE system, with printer
32X brand new, boxed
Super Nintendo, Non yellowed, 2 controllers
5 NES systems, with about 10 controllers
Atari 2600, complete.

About 40 NES games....When I get to them, Ill bring you more details.
About 10 SNES games, all boxed complete, in particular, Zelda, SFII and SFII Turbo, and Final Fight 2.

Awesome day, awesome sales. About friggin time.

I'd be bummed about the missing game also but I got something that will cheer you up :) I actually saw an old gameboy yesterday with no games a cheap case a multisystem link and some kind of 3rd party magify light deal for only $25. :D

Congrats on finding the TG-16 stuff at a yardsale I'd be happy just finding a controller myself as I still have a TG-16 and about 10 games from way back but don't have any controllers. I always wanted a CD add-on but they are abit too rich for my tastes.

That's a pretty phenomonal score you did well. Is there a story to go with that purchase? Either your a semi professional con man or the seller was mentally challenged. either way really really good haul. Got pics? I think pics really help others to keep the faith when they get skunked. I know it does for me.

I think we have one maybe two potential really good weekends left for yardsales. I think I'm going to start exploring estate sales and moving sales as the weather gets cooler. many of the ads i see for them have phone numbers attached so it may be worth a shot.

Buyers remorse over $20?!?!?! You are truly a CAG!

definitely let us know how those work out. i'm YS'd out for the year. i went about 4 weeks in a row without even seeing a VG at a sale, so i threw in the towel. the disappointment, along with $41 per tank of gas made me give up.

Good luck

Problem is all I have is a scanner, so pics are impossible it seems at this moment. The last sale I hit was around 11:50 Id say, and I had to be a work at around 12:30 ( I was about 25 minutes late). I drove up, left the engine running, for the sale looked small, and I had no luck in the prior 13 or so sales. When I walked up to the driveway, and glanced to my left, I caught the 32x box, and grabbed it immediately, as there was another gentlemen looking at the Atari 2600 ( which was in a ratted up old suitcase with a bunch of games). I called the lady over and asked her if I filled a box up, would she take 20 for it. I proceeded to fill a box up with the SNES, a NES, the 32x, and a bunch of games, leaving out both Ataris. At this point, the gentlemen looking at the 2600 had already left. The lady walked back over and we started talking about where she obtained all the video game stuff, and she told me a long story about how she used to work at a video store, and they had all these video game units, blah blah. I asked about the box I had already fillled, and she basically quiped, "You know what, just take it all for $20" and started to overfill my already bursting box, and another at the table. I didnt even get a chance to look at the other parts of the garage sale because I had to work, but I bet there may have been more....
