OFFICIAL 2006 Yard Sale Thread

I fully agree. I have been running into a lot of Ebay sellers. Also I think a lot of people are selling their games on ebay themselves. I often get the whole, "You should pay me x cuz I can get x on ebay." I still find a decent amount of games but two years ago I might see 10-20 SNES systems and 30 or so NES systems in a summer and now I see less than 10. Most of the PS2/XB/GC I run into are really old junk that isnt near worth the 5-10$ each they want.

Thanks, that is the first SMS stuff I have seen all summer so I was wicked happy to find it.

That's why I wish I was into yardsales 5-10 years ago back then you'd probably see 8 or 16 bit (or older) stuff at about every 5-10 houses in just about any neighborhood some practically not able to give the games away. I see the same exact thing for PSX/PS2/current gen games as you. The only PSX RPG game I've ever seen at a flea market/yardsale is Legend or Dragoon and while I might have missed afew others I can't help but think the the vast majority of PSX games people decide to sell at a garage sale can be summed up in one word "garbage" and I get the feeling that I didn't miss anything special when I see afew PSX games I'm not interested in at a yardsale if they may have sold afew earlier.

The only PSX games I've bought/seen in the wild over the last 2 years that are worth $10+ were Team Buddies & Bust a Groove which I got both from at the same yardsale early last year.

Rare PS1 RPGs at Yard Sales/Flea Markets are tough.

This year I found

Legend of Mana 8$
FF7 .25
FF7 2.50

and thats about it.

I did find Warsong and Earthbound for 25 cents each earlier this summer though

Didn't hit any sales this weekend. I ran by Target today and picked up a few things on clearance. I picked up another copy of Finding Nemo for the XBOX @ $4.98 + tax (Grandpa wanted one to let the boys play when they visit). I picked up a couple of SpongeBob calculators for our boys (Christmas stocking stuffers) for $1.74 + tax each. I also picked up a Hello Kitty one for our neice/God daughter for the same price.

I have stopped by a couple of Circuit City stores in the area recently and I guess the good deals are stuff shipped from here to other stores because I've NEVER been able to find any of the cheap stuff at CC like people have mentioned finding on the CAG forum.

I also stopped by a CompUSA and found a bin of XBOX games, but most were priced higher than you can get em for at GS/EB (espeically used prices). I mean, NFL Fever for $10...ouch...lol.

I actually found quite a few decent ps1 games this year and i do'nt think I paid $10 combined.

2x Castlevania SOTN
2x FFVII
FFVIII
FFIX
Brave Fencer Musashi

I've really only been yardsailing for games for about 3 years but in my area I think over the course of them I've seen more stuff. I think there is more demand now for older stuff so people are blowing the dust off and trying to unload them at their yard sales. The real trick is to weed out the people that will take a few bucks on the stuff they thought was worthless

Got Luigi's Mansion for 50 cents at a church rummage sale.

I was looking trough some of my old boxes and found my old Dreamcast with a couple games, controllers and memory cards. I thought I lost it, and bought 2 Dreamcasts since then. Better late than never.

I posted this for sale at another forum, and I was advised that this would be a good place to advertise this as for sale.

Booooooyaaaaaa!!!!!

This may be a little off-topic, but how do you guys keep track of all your games and wanted lists? I've tried using the IGN collection lists, but I've found they suck to say the least. I've thought about going really simple and just saving the lists as a Word document, but I'd like to have a sortable database or something like that. Any comments?

that's all i used to do. just use Word and update as need, organized by sytem (and color-coded). i've never used any sort of official organizational software or websites.

Use Excel, much more flexible than Word. It allows you to filter/sort very easily.

If you're familiar with it, i would suggest Access. I don't use it but i learned how to use it in a class that i took, and it seems that it would be perfect for what you're trying to do. If i had that many games, i would definetly do it with access.

You can also manage collections at digital press, http://www.rfgeneration.com/, or do access/excel. I haven't actually used any of these in a while. I really need to keep track of my games.

I have used access to create a database of my game purchases of the year. I created a system with several forms and drop down menus. Here's a pic of a report generated by it. I don't have any recent pics of it.

I had pretty bad luck today. The first few additions I went to only had a handful of sales. The one addition I should have gone to first was picked over by the time I got there. I ended up only getting a beat up FFX guide for $0.50 and a flashlight/radio for $0.25 that was solar or crank powered.

Just picked up some Freecycle styff. A bunch of old PC games (11th hour, Wasteland, Kings Quest Collection).

The lady posted saying she was cleaning out her basement, so I emailed her asking about games on a whim. She said yes, but didn't go into detail. We went back and forth for about 3 emails, and she just would NOT go into detail about what she had. So I said eh, what the hell, and took the 20 minute drive.

The house was pretty ghetto, and everything was pretty dirty. Still, I figured I already made the drive, just take everything she has and sort it out later.

So I get home and go through everything. Turns out that most of the PC boxes have...bugs in them. Little tiny ones. I don't know what they are or if they're harmful, but it's enough for me to not want any part of it. So now the entire box is sitting outside, waiting to be given to a Goodwill truck.

Complete waste of an hour.

Moiety is in VT for the weekend, so this will be my first time out alone (and she always drives). So, I have my hopes set pretty low, and I don't expect to hit too many sales. I'm going to be staying local.

Blargh.

Great day today.

Went to Kmart where they are getting rid of a bunch of games for cheap. I got 12 games for $22 and then traded them into Gamestop for $67 in credit. Got the dvds and Tales of Legendia, then put $22 on Tales of the Abyss. Lumines was from a trade on LWS.

The wristband, headset and shirt were free, freebies from the managers conference.

You're giving your bug infested box to goodwill? You monster! There was probably just an old copy of KOTOR 2 in there that evolved.

It was a rain packed week but this weekend is supposed to be be sunny. Heres to a weekend of yard sales!

On another note does anyone remember a site called Drunkgamers that did a weekly write up of what they called "Drunk Sailing?" They would go get totally blasted friday night then go around to garage sales early the next morning and report their video games finds.

The website is long gone but I was hoping to find some kind of archive of it.
Twins and TMNT movies...I thought this was the bragging rights section?...hehe...J/K. Nice job turning $22 in to $67.
Hey hey! Don't rag on the TMNT movies!

I do have to admit that I've never actually seen them all the way thru. From what I have seen of them, I figure it would be best for my psychological state of mind not to watch them. :} Well, that at the fact that Vanilla Ice is in the 2nd one...shudder.

*side note: Back in the day, a friend of mine and I were in a store where they sold books. He took every copy of the Vanilla Ice biography (some teen type book) and put them in the "Fiction" section. :}

AS for Sales today...OMG it sucked SO BAD!!! I found a sale listed on Craigslist just up the road that said it had video games. It had ONE video game which was a plug into the TV type. I went to a LOT of sales and only saw 2 other video games the entire time. One was a Genesis Bugs Bunny game with a $5.00 price on the back of the box.

The other game was a sealed copy of Half-Life 2. Seeing as I've been waiting to find a used copy (as I don't want to put money into the pocket of Valve, long story for another time), what better way than to find a sealed one (with the original $49.99 price tag). Nothing at the sale was priced so I asked how much. The lady said $15. No thanks, I just saw a copy for the XBOX yesterday for $10.58 at TRU.

Anywho, I even went to 3 Goodwills and didn't find anything today...total suckage. All that on top of only 4 hours of sleep...thphph. (fingers crossed Target will come thru with some decent clearance stuff on Monday). :}

This weekend has been pretty bad for me too. Today I only was able to get this coleco thing for a quarter and a three way cable splitter for $0.50. This weekend I didn't even use any of my cash, just pocket change.

I did pass on a gamecube for $35. She had just marked it down to $40 and wouldn't go down any farther. I would like one, but that was a little more than I was wanting to spend. I have the component cables so I need one of those older ones. I wonder if I should go back for it?

Well if it comes system only, don't buy it, but if it comes with controllers, power, and some games, I'd say itis a decent buy.

It came with controller, power and composite video cables. It did come with one crappy game. I wonder if I could talk her down some more if I just got the system and not the game.

Ya man, if you can do that I'd say you are getting a pretty good deal. Also explain to her a new system is coming out so this one isn't worth much anymore!

Or just wait till the new system comes out and the GCN shoupd drop in price a lot.

Slow day for video games in my area. Didn't spot a single game or orphan controller and everyone just shook their heads no to video games. Did manage one catch though.

Seasons 1-7 of Stargate SG-1 on DVD in the original non thinpak artboxes for 30.00. A welcome addition to the collection

I tried talking her down, but she wouldn't go lower than $35. I went ahead and got it. I've been wanting one and I had to find one with the digital out port since I have the component cables. I actually paid $5 more for the the cables than for the system. I got those from a former Nintendo repair center awhile ago.

So, Gara, did I read this right? You got seasons 1 to 7 of SG1 for $30. Wow, I would have loved to find that.

Grats on the gamecube! My area is full of either extremely grateful kids or very greedy ones. I keep getting people telling me their kids won't part with the game stuff when I ask.

As for the sg1 it was a little surprising. I almost passed up the sale when I drove by and saw it was a little old lady playing with a toddler but figured grandma might be a gamer. She didn't have any video games but I found the dvds and boxes stacked high on one of the tables in the back with a little sticker marked $5 each. I offered her 25.00 and she countered with 30.00.

Besides a layer of dust on top of each box they seem to be in pristine condition. Go granny! How they managed to go unsold until 11:00 AM is beyond me.

Now that you're cubin you gotto play resident evil 4.

not much at all today:

McDonald's Mario Catch & Toss ball, 25 cents

4 Game Boy (Color) games, 3 missing labels, $2
- GB Pokemon Blue Version
- GBC Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
- GBC X-Men
- GB Final Fantasy Legend II

3 GC Wavebird controllers (no receivers), $5
1 GC Standard controller (missing rubber joystick pad), $1

total: $8.25

today was apparently "Missing/Incomplete Stuff Day". the Gameboy games i rescued from a giant heap of Pokemon cards. i almost didn't see them, but the corner of one of the cartridges was peeking out amongst the junk. i kept digging until i'd dug up 4 games, and asked how much. the kid said a dollar each, and i asked if he'd do "two for a dollar". he hesitated and i pointed out that i didn't even know what the games were, so i didn't want to spend much to find out. he agreed. what a shame to find such nice titles with the labels damaged or missing (except X-Men -- who cares?). after a little more digging, i found a Gameboy Advance with Pokemon Puzzle League plugged into it. the kid said he wanted $23 for them together (?!), which i declined.

the Wavebirds all came from the same lady. she had no idea where the receivers were and from her expression as we chatted, i figured that was why they were so cheap. 2 bucks each. i told her 5 for all 3, and that was done. the wired controller came from an old man who was asking 2. i pointed out that the rubber pad that tops the joystick was torn off and that i'd give him a buck, which he took. i have one receiver at home for my own WB, and after popping in batteries, all 3 wavebirds function perfectly, as does the wired controller. Nintendo sells the wavebird receiver for 16 bucks, which is highway robbery, but i guess i'll just play the waiting game. either i'll slowly find them here on CAG, or i'll bite the bullet and pick them up from Nintendo.com, which'll be a knife in my heart, but still a little cheaper than buying them new.

i'm definitely going back out tomorrow, to try to find some better deals.

I managed to find that at a garage sale for $3 or $4 a week or two ago. That was the second game I just tried on it. I tested to see if it worked with the game I got with it: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2. I didn't know when I'd get a cube, but I have picked up over the last few months: Baten Kaitos, F-zero GX, Geist, and Killer 7.

Picked up an in box Sega Master System, with everything in the box. Even the bags the individual pieces were in, for $10. No games though. And yes, the tape says $15, and yes, it came off without tearing anything.

This is what I picked up this week.

First off I went to that ladies house from last week and she was not set up for a YS so I knocked on the door and was told her son did not get the stuff from the attic and she'll be sure to keep my number handy and call me when he does

Thursday picked up at the flea market.

Silent Hill 1 GH (PS1) complete mint
TOTAL: $3
This vendor had about a dozen PS1 games w/ a $5 IAP. I CIF $3 which she was very reluctant on taking but she took it anyway

Game Gear Games
Shinobi
SOR 2
Halley Wars
Blackjack
Chessmaster
Sonic 2
TOTAL: $5
I originally purchased these games for $8 along with MK1 and a Game Gear that was what appeared to be in perfect condition. The lady said it worked perfectly. I haggled her down from a IAP of $15 to $10. After she said that was the best she could do I CIF her $8 which she took. I then went to my car and tested it with batteries which I carry for just such an occasion. It would not power up. So I took my 9V power supply which I also carry for just such an occasion back with the GG and tested on an outlet by one of the stands. It fired it up but the screen and and sound were shot. I brought it back to the vendor which in turn tried to say that it was a different unit yada yada yada. Then said the batteries were no good. When I pulled out the plug and told her to test it with the plug she questioned if it was the right one. So she ultimately agreed to give me my money back but I really really wanted shinobi and Halley Wars so I told her to give me $3 dollars back and to keep 1 game to see if she could fix it then she could resell it.

complete N64 w/ 2 controllers and the games and Xbox RF
Mario 64
Zelda OOT (hurray I needed this)
DK 64
Bio Freaks
Turok 2
South park
Star Wars RS
WWF War Zone
knockout Kings 2000
TOTAL: FREE
Got this off my brother who was cleaning out stuff in his condo and was gonna trash this but decided it would be happy with me. Also got about 10lbs of fresh tuna (not pictured). He went out on a Tuna trip recently

Yesterday at a YS
Thunder Force V - PS1 disc only mint
TOTAL: $2
This is probably one of the most satisfying finds I've had ever. Hit about 10 sales yesterday and only one had games. This guy had 3 games as I looked thru the short stack - Namco 1 - Namco II - THUNDERFORCE V !!!!!!!! . Holy Shit ! I could'nt beleive it. I had played this for 3 or 4 days as a rental many years ago. I tried everywhere to find the game for purchase to no avail. I've had this game on my hit list forever. Knowing the rarity and the high prices on Ebay for this I really thought I would never own this game. but out of nowhere there it is. Gotta love yardsailing

Flea market today
Mega Man 1 - like new cart only. contacts have no wear
TOTAL: $3
Got this from one of the regular vendors. I could'nt do any better so I did'nt even try.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat (SNES) cart only
TOTAL: $1
Got this off an old lady selling junk. It was the only game she had. I CIF a $1

found today:

DVD Arlington Road WS, $1
XB360 Call of Duty 2, complete (some scratches on disc), $12
GEN Mutant League Football, complete, $2
Nintendo DS Switch N' Carry case, $1

total: $16

not much to say today. lots of stuff for sale, but not many video games. Call of Duty was originally being sold for 20 bucks, but i looked at the disc and complained to the seller that there were circular scratches on the disc (nothing horrible, but enought to bitch about). after first trying to offer 10, i went up to 12 and she agreed. what's funny is that i just traded this game away for Dead Rising not too far back, and now i have CoD2 in my possession again. Mutant League Football was a nice find -- i've wanted a nice, clean and complete copy for a while, and at 2 bucks, i couldn't pass it up.

1 Y's III: Wanderers From Y's (SNES, cart only)
Paid: $1

1 TMNT (NES, cart + manual)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11 combined sales this weekend.

Moiety was in VT this weekend, and she picked up the free controllers from a random sale she ran into. I decided to forego making directions, planning instead to just drive around randomly looking for signs. I found 10 sales this way, which wasn't too bad. It's getting chilly and the number of sales is starting to fall. I dunno how you solo-salers do it. I missed my teammate!

The SNES game was cherry-picked from a pile of 10 or so games. I had to ask if they had anything, and the lady went inside and retrieved a shoebox. The other stuff was pretty common, mostly Disney and Looney Toons games. I tried to CIF a buck for Y's and Zelda LTTP, but she responded with a buck each. I didn't fight too much and just took Y's.

The NES games were cherry-picked from a NES lot, which they were asking $25 on. I took a bunch of manuals for games that we already had too, and they didn't seem to mind at all. I left behind a bunch of games we already had (plus the system), and a few N64 games that we had already. They also had a Zelda OOT guide, but the pages were all coming out, so I didn't bother. I accidentally left the TMNT manual behind, which I later went back for (had to buy the game as well to get it). $1 initial purchase and an extra 50 cents for TMNT with manual.

I almost skipped on the Commodore. Originally asking $10, I didn't even bother making a counter offer. As I walked to the car the seller yelled "What's the matter? Was that too much?" So I walked back over and inspected everything, then offered $2. He kept trying to get $5, but I stood firm. After about 5 minutes of back and forth, he took it. Didn't have one of these before, so it's nice to add it to the collection.

I hope we get at least one more decent weekend before the season ends. I'm going to be really sad to see winter again. The first few weekends without yardsales are nice, because you get to sleep in. But then after awhile you start getting that twitch, and then by Februrary it becomes unbearable.

Sigh. It was a really nice year. Seemed to go by way too quickly though.

What is included in the "ultimate collection", and how many discs are there? I'm 99% sure that is a bootleg. There was never one collection that had all 3 El Hazard "series". Also check if it says Chinese subtitles anywhere on the box. I may be wrong but from the picture it looks like a bootleg (unless it is a region 2 release I don't know about or something...)

Nope, no chinese subtitles. There is a barcode on the bottom and even each set has a barcode. I've seen the sets sold seperately also.

Included: El-Hazard Alternative World, El-Hazard The Magnificent World and El-Hazard The Wanderers
http://www.sundevildvd.com/store/product.php?productid=16799
is that it there? It's certainly not a home made copy but it is a bootleg copy. There hasn't actually been an official release in the US of all three series in one boxset to compare it to.
I still have a hard time believing that due to the quality of the dvds.

Besides, if it's not made in the USA, doesn't mean it's bootleg. Japanese dvds are just as legit.

Well if it was was a Japanese original it would be region 2 and only in Japanese with no subtitles. Bootlegs are of decent quality these days to fool consumers and more shaddy retailers even go one step furtherer by putting high prices on them. After all for that price it has to be real right?

Anyways as long as you are happy with them it's all good though. Now armed with a suspicious nature you can point out bootlegs in the future and demand a better deal!
