OFFICIAL 2006 Yard Sale Thread

I was gonna buy one at Bed Bath and Beyond but the motor made alot of noise which defeats the purpose of the peaceful sound at bedtime. They are awesome. Put a nice little ZEN garden next to it and you are set lol.

BB&B, yep. every Christmas, these things come out in droves, and i always jokingly hint to my wife that i'm gonna get one. i never do.

Found Fatal Fury 3 - Road to Final Victory for the PC for $2 at a thrift store today. It was hiding in the music CDs - case, insert and CD were all mint (surprisingly).

Saw a few NES games that were way overpriced, a copy of Mario 64 for $12.99, a beatup DC for $50?!?, and a bunch of other overpriced stuff I had to pass on.

Well, next weekend is going to be my first time yard saling. Wish me luck everyone! Oh and I want to thank everyone who posted in this forum ( I read it all!) because you've inspired me.

here's what went down today. it was so lame that i ain't postin' pics unless someone specifically asks:

Nintendo Mario Paint mouse pad, $1

PS2 Ratchet & Clank: Goin' Commando, GH, no manual, $3

GC Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, box only, free
GBA Lufia: The Ruins of Lore, box & manual only, free
PS2 Dual Shock 2 controller, smoke grey, mint, $3

PS Chrono Cross, GH, missing disc 1, $1

Lego System, Star Wars: Snow Speeder (7130), new in box, $1

today's total: $9

man, this was a weak day. there's not much to say. my favorite finds from today's slim pickings were the PS2 controller (i'm always glad to pick these up cheap), and the Lego Star Wars kit. i'm not sure why i bought Ratchet & Clank -- i basically got it to help my lil' brother get a lower price on a DVD movie he had his eye on. the Chrono Cross i was gonna just leave, but for a dollar, i figure i can take a chance on finding it bare disc later and making it complete.

the Zelda and Lufia boxes were laying out in such a way that they looked complete, which was exciting for about 2 seconds, until my cohorts and i realised they were just boxes and one manual. lame. i brought the PS2 controller up to the seller and he told me $5. i offered 3, which he accepted. i held up the boxes and asked if he had the games. he said no, and when asked, told me i could have them for nothing. not bad, considering i will run across these games in the future.

i have to go back out tomorrow (Sunday). there's no choice. it has to be. today was so lame that i have no alternative, but must brave the heat and people to find something worth reporting.

i'm glad to see so many of you got such nice stuff. here's to tomorrow! (danito, good luck!)

Nice little find today as I headed out to get the sunday paper. This sale was 3 blocks from my house. As I pulled up I noticed the lady putting some SNES games in a plastic bag for another lady and her son. I rocketed from my car like my ass was on fire. I passed the lady and her kid and could make out ZOOP through the white plastic bag she was carrying and then looked over at the table and noticed more games and began to think if this lady bought zoop there's hope that there might be some good stuff left. Low and behold. i was quite happy. The lady wanted $3 each, I countered with a $5 CIF for these games. I was very happy because I've been looking for Stunt Race FX it was high on my list of wants. SMK was another welcome addition because I was currently without a copy of this. This was the 3rd copy of this I found this year . I sold one and gave one to my daughters boyfriend forgetting that I had sold my other copy. I went looking for it to play like 2 weeks ago when it all hit me like a tidal wave. So I guess the game gods were looking out for me.

Complete FFVII broken case, very worn book and light surface scratchs on all discs. Complete RE2 cracked jewel case but discs are perfect. - Paid $1
This is the kind of shit I love. I asked a young girl at this sale for games. Her eyes lit up and she ran inside and came out with a short stack. After quickly pulling these from the stack I asked the girl how much and she comes back with "I do'nt know how about a dollar?" Just as she says that and I'm handing her the buck, I'm guessing it was the girls father comes walking out and I start to think Oh shit he's gonna want more for these little gems, but what happens? the girl hands him the $1 and he turns to me and says I have a bag of PS1 games somewhere hold on a minute let me go look. so I instantly turn to go and get the other games on the table cause I'm thinking for .50 each why not, but some other shopper had already scoffed them up. The guy comes back empty handed but I gave him my number in case he finds his bag

I've been to around 400 garage sales this summer and haven't had one decent video game find. I get up at 7 am and am the first person to all the major neighborhood sales. I think the problem is that all the people that live in the suburbs here are young families with babies or very young kids. Their kids are too young to have video games and the parents got rid of that stuff before they got married. I need to start driving outside the Indianapolis area or something. On the plus side, my wife has furnished our entire house with decorations and cheap furniture and saved me several thousand dollars.

It's been well over a year since I've even seen an NES game at a garage sale. Last year I found an original NES top loader and a stack of games for $15 in my own neighborhood at a sale (they originally wanted $25) and that sparked my interest in picking up vintage games and systems again. Unfortunately, most of the stuff I've bought has been off Ebay and I just haven't had much luck at garage sales. I'll usually hit 3 neighborhood sales on a Saturday...I'm starting to think a better idea might just be driving around the older neighborhoods and looking for unadvertised sales though.

Anyway, I'd say pick up every PSX game you can find for 50 cents. Big lots of PSX games go for around $2 a game on Ebay, even disc-only games. I know because I've tried bidding on some and they always go higher than I want to pay even though they have crappy games.

As for your $3 sealed Syphon Filter game, that guy probably got the stack from a going out of business TRU for 90% off the lowest marked price, or $1 each back when a huge chunk of TRU stores were closing earlier in the year. Every TRU seems to have several cases of all the Syphon Filter games. I have no idea why they ordered so heavy.

another semi-weak day, with a couple fun things:

N64 Controller Extension Cable, used in Game Crazy bag, $1

PS Eternal Eyes, mint & complete, $3

DVD UHF, $2

GBA Kingdom Hearts, Shark Tale, Spider-Man (boxes and manuals, no carts), free

Risk board game, new & sealed, 50 cents

DC Official Dreamcast controller, smoke grey, $1

Nintendo Game Boy Color, Fuchsia &
GBC Pokemon Blue Edition, $7

total: $14.50

we found lots of stuff today, but the prices weren't so hot. i turned down a few games here and there and was kind of annoyed at some of the steep prices.

the Game Boy Advance boxes were kind of a nice treat, since i own a bare-cart Kingdom Hearts already. i saw the 3 boxes lying under a table and asked the seller about them. he said they were empty, and did i want them for free? yes, yes i did. they have all manuals and documents, so my GBA Kingdom Hearts is now complete. that rarely happens, but when it does, it's a great feeling. the other two just await my finding bare carts, and i'll button those up too.

over the past few weeks, we've been seeing smoke grey DC controllers and VMUs everywhere. either the prices are too high, or people don't want to break up bundles. i've been wanting to add a smoke grey controller to my collection for a while, and finally someone was asking a fair price.

speaking of Dreamcasts, i've had to turn down 2 in the past 2 days: one lady selling a white DC with 3 controllers, 2 VMUs, and 4 games (3 sports, 1 Shenmue) for $22. i asked if she'd sell some of the stuff separate and she refused. i decided to stick by my guns and not buy any of it, since i don't need another system at that price, and i have no need for the sports games. i only wanted Shenmue and the controllers/VMUs. dang. the 2nd DC i passed over was today. the guy selling wanted 20 bucks for a black Sports DC, 2 controllers, no cables, no VMUs and 3 games, Gauntlet Legends, Tony Hawk 2 (i think), and something lame i don't remember. i was very tempted to buy the whole thing, but resisted. i asked if he would sell just Gauntlet which he respectfully declined, so i moved on. oh well.

the Game Boy Color was an okay find. the seller wanted 10. i said 5, and he countered with 7, saying he wouldn't go any lower. fine. it's missing the battery cover, but Nintendo sells replacements for a dollar, and my lil' brother says he has a spare that came from another yard sale lot, so it'll be complete soon enough.

the Risk game was lying in a big plastic bin with junk toys and books. my friend grabbed out a still-sealed GamePro magazine that he wanted to read and asked how much. the guy told him 50 cents. while my friend stood fishing in his wallet and patting his pockets for change, i held up the board game and asked the price. "um, a dollar?" sweet, i thought. great price. meanwhile, my friend couldn't find change and handed the seller a dollar. the seller fumbled momentarily and said he didn't have any change. he handed back my pal's dollar and suggested he come back with change. i checked my wallet for quarters and found none (i usually keep LOTS of quarters for yard sales, but happened to have none today). i grabbed the magazine from my friend, and coupled it with the Risk game. i held them both up and told the seller i'd give him a dollar for both. he said yes, so i ended up getting Risk for 50 cents! it's brand-spanking new.

apparently, Eternal Eyes is lame, but i didn't know when i bought it, and for 3 bucks, i don't rightly care. it's in great condition, either way. and UHF, well, i love that movie. a guilty pleasure, for sure.

that's it. nothing amazing, but today's finds helped to improve my mood after yesterday's dismal outing. see y'all next week.

thought i'd add a little something to my previous post. the GBA games all had prices written on the front in marker. i've tried to use the Magic Eraser on printed cardboard with so-so results. usually, you have to stop rubbing before it's completely clean, lest you end up removing the original print. the GBA games all cleaned up EXCELLENT. Spider-Man and Shark's Tale are now absolutely spotless. unfortunately, Kingdom Hearts didn't fare quite as well, since it sports a shiny, metallic cover. by the time the marker came up, a hint of the printing was wearing away. it's still almost perfect, and for free, you can't ask for anything more. well, you could, but you'd be a jerk. ;)

the slight speckling/discoloration you see above is not black ink, though it looks that way. it's actually the shiny foil finish coming thru the print.

No decent sales today. I didn't find anything game related. Although I did manage to get a brand new "Sake Gift Set" for $5. Otherwise that's really about it for me this weekend.

Didn't pick up anything except a promotional Jet Set Radio Future music sampler for $1.98 at a thriftstore. I didn't even know they made an actual music CD for this game. :)
I also picked up Kung Fu for the NES for $1.98, not too bad compared to shipping and handling prices alone.

I didn't get out and go to sales this weekend. It was supposed to rain and I REALLY needed some extra sleep so I was going to sleep in (not that I got a chance to with our boys making noise...lol).

Anywho, I ran by a Target yesterday and picked up a couple of decent finds. I got Finding Nemo and MechAssault 2 for XBOX for $4.98 each (+ tax). Seeing as they cost more than that used, and I've had the Nemo game on my list to pick up for our boys for a while, it was a good deal. Now I just have to get some time to spend with MA2.

So this storm, was it electrical? Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Try cleaning the ps2 with a DVD lense cleaner. Blow the system out with compressed air. it worked for me
It was a thunder storm. Lightning struck a transformer or something and made a pants crappingly loud bang when it happened.
if your two PS2s are the same modlel, maybe you could pull the laser from your old "good" one (now gone bad), and try swapping it with that of your new "bad" one. unless you know for sure that the old lens got damaged somehow.

One is a 390001 and one is a 300001 or something like that. The one hit by the storm has sound but no picture. I don't know if it's the lens or something else. How would I change just the lens without changing the drive? I've opened both PS2s up and the drives connect differently.

EDIT: The insurance company has since paid for a replacement, but I'd love to get one of the old, fat model, ones to work so I could use my Action Replay.

Well this week I got:

$1

I was talking with one of the ladies at this sale and she said she had a broken xbox and asked if I could fix it. She said it was out of warrenty when it broke and it's been sitting on a shelf for a year. I told her I could try and gave her my number. I don't know yet if she just wants to get rid of it or if she wants me to fix it and give it back. That depends on what her son says. I'm hoping I can keep it, since I've been wanting to mod one and install Xbox Media Center.

$12

This is pick of most of my finds. The dreamcast was $2 and doesn't work. I got it to fix or to try swapping out some parts to fix another dreamcast. The svideo cable was $1. The menacer was $1. It is missing the bundled game and the receiver. I also had my first encounter with a flea market seller. He bought up all the other game stuff, an atari 2600 and this plastic box thing with two rifle controllers wired to it. It looked liked it was from the 70s. I was a little mad since that might be a little harder to find item. Oh well, I wouldn't have had anywhere to put it. The book was a dollar and so was the controller, which was missing the little breakaway cable. I paid $5 for the two snes games. The Ninja Gaiden 2 instructions were $0.10.

$4

I picked these up at a pawn shop a week or two ago.

Here's last weeks picks.

I don't have an image of the computer I also bought last week. It said it didn't come with a processor, but when I opened it up, I was surprised to see a 933 Mhz P3. Unfortunately, I also noticed some bulging capacitors by the processor. I went ahead and fired it up. I wanted to see if it would power up, which I doubted. The magical smoke was released. I'm hoping the processor and ram weren't damaged.

If you're good at fixing stuff, nice find!!

I tested the Dreamcast today. It works.:) The only thing I noticed was that it was really loud at times. I also compared it to my other working dreamcast from another yard sale. That one also sounded quite loud at times. Is the Dreamcast just a loud system?

Well this has got to be one of my best outings this year.
The day started off a little slow but pretty good.

First sale I hit I picked up all 3 Indiana Jones flicks on VHS for a total of $3 a little pricey but my wife loves those movies so no biggy.

Next sale I picked up 3 Star wars HC books in mint condition, New Hope - Return of the Jedi and ESB. At this same sale I picked up a Lego tractor thingy sealed in box. The lady wanted $2 - pretty much a no brainer

Next sale I got Croc -mint complete for the PS1. The guy wanted $2. I CIF $1. I started thinking this is my day. 3 sales and 3 good deals. I was very happy with this purchase cause I love Croc and it's been on my hit list. Unfortunately my next find of the day will keep me from having a chance to play it for a while

127 DVD's - no bootlegs all in pristine condition with a nice metal rack not pictured. TOTAL $63

Let me start by saying life is good. I pulled up to this sale and asked for games . Recently I've started asking for DVD's as well. Anyways this guy says I have a bunch in the house. so he emerges 5 minutes later with a metal rack full of DVD's. I ask how much and he says a $1 each. I immediately say I'll take them all and can we work a little deal. So Dave (that was his name) starts counting up the DVD's when I ask if he has any more to which he replies - "yeh I got some more but" and I interjected quickly "go get them and I'll take all you got" so he comes back out 5 minutes later with 4 grocery bags full of DVD's. I ask how much for everything. As he resumes counting I gather up all my cash and CIF him $53 (not in my wildest dreams did I think he would bite on this) telling him this is all I got. Well he comes back with "do you have $10 more". I say to him I'll run to an ATM and get more money and will he throw in the rack? He agrees and I get the cash. We exchanged some small talk afterwards and I left

Now this is where it gets even better.

I get home and start hauling the stuff in my house and my neighbor, the guy who gave me the free NES a few weeks back, asks me if I need a hand. I decline but then he sees the rack of DVD's and starts asking me stuff. Get those from a yardsale? to which I reply yes. How much? he says I reply "Lets just say I got a decent deal. He then asks if I want to sell any, to which I reply "sure $5 each any ones you want if you buy 5 you can have the 6th free" So he takes 12 for $50 (he can not pay me till next week but I trust him) which left me with 115 DVD's for a TOTAL OF $13

Well, one of my dreams came true: twice in a row. Always hoped to run across a ton of Legos at a sale. Of course, my other dream is to come across boxes upon boxes of old school games. 1 out of 2 ain't bad!

Let me start out by saying that today was the day of reasonably priced items. Pretty much everything we picked up today had low asking prices to begin with, and it seemed people were just looking to get rid of their stuff.

First Lego score was at an advertised sale. Each of the big bins was marked $10, and the smaller one had no price on it. Not bad. I offered $10 for all, she countered with $15, then we came back with $12. I was psyched. I haven't really bought any Legos all season (as I have so much already and haven't seen much), but I just couldn't pass up such a huge score.

Then the next sale was an unadvertised one. We come up to the house and are just laughing inside. More Legos!! At this house, they had a big candy scoop with a sign that said "50 cents per scoop". Again, not unreasonable. But I wanted them all! We offered $5, and after a slight hesitation, they took it. They said "We just want to get rid of them." They were super friendly and the father even commented, "You just got a deal of the century there!"

We did the math after weighing everything. 115 lbs of Legos for $17 comes to roughly 14 cents per pound. Considering buying Lego lots on eBay usually comes to about $2-3/lb, this is an insanely great deal. And now that my dream of a huge score of Legos has come true, I can close the book on buying any more Legos (for a long time at the least...)

The N64 stuff came from an annual town sale. We actually made 3 different purchases there from different people's tables. We left behind quite a few things. For example, 2 PS1's that were marked $2 each. We weren't really interested, plus assumed they were broken, so left them for someone else to find. Also left a few more N64 games behind from the kid we bought those from. There were also some PSX games floating around. Tried to buy a small Blastoise plush for a quarter, but was informed that "No, that's a dollar." I tossed it down and said "Oh, that's way too much," and walked off. C'mon it's a plush toy!

Funny sighting: we come upon a house with various religious knickknacks and figures. Then right next to a statue of a robed guy praying, there's this glittery notebook with a big Playboy bunny on the front. Hrmm, k.

Not much on the video game front, but a great day nonetheless. It was a beautiful fall day, sunny with just a slight chill in the air. Great for saling. Hope you all had luck!!

Well it was my first time and it was pretty disappointing to say the least. Out of the 10 or so yardsales I went to I got:

Battleship (complete)- 1.00
One of those stupid singing bass things (I'm going to put it in a friends house secretly)- 2.00
A karaoke Mic- .25 cents
Flight Simulator (complete)- 1.00

The last place I went to was insane. I guess a video store got closed down near here, because this lady had rows upon rows of ex-rental vhs and dvds. It wouldn't be that surprising if it were in the actual video store, but this was in someone's house. Anyways, DVD's were 7.50, VHS was 3.50, and games (which were almost all disc only) were 15.00, which is ridiculous. It was the last sale of the day so I ended up buying Grave of the Fireflies (2-disc edition) and Metropolis on DVD, as well as The Wall on VHS. More or less I bought them to atleast justify the fact that I'd spent hours yard saling, and I wanted atleast SOMETHING to show for it. Not a great way to start but oh well, there's always next time!

An okay find today I guess.

Video game wise I got a 'Gamecube' from this one yard sale. She said her son was selling the Gamecube for $5. I was tempted and bit the bait. Anyway, I later get home to try it out...and the Gamecube works perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with it at all. So...I guess I got a pretty good deal.

Then I bought a Snuggle Medium Sized Plushie for .50 cents.

A 3D puzzle of 'Notre Dame de Paris' for $1

A Jadish Dragon Statue for $1

One of the old TMNT Cartoon VHS for $2

That was really all I found today after hitting only about 12 or so sales.

Only got in about 20 sales this morning but not a bad haul.
-Super Advantage SNES Joystick 2.00
-NES with hookups, 2 controllers, and cart only versions of Mega man 2, super contra, mario 3, Teenage mutant ninja turtles, and a few others. 5.00
-A bunch of older childrens books from a little old lady. 1.00
-About a dozen stephen king books I have been wanting to read. 2.00.

-15GB Ipod in original box with sealed earbuds and all hookups
-Griffin Italk voice recorder for Ipod New and sealed
-Belkin voice recorder
-Monster iCase travel pack New and sealed
-Pod Shield metal case which he called bullet proof. New and sealed
-A book called "Secrets of the ipod" from TechTV
40.00

This one was fairly interesting. His sale was off the route and inside this very tiny garage with no overhead light. He even had a long white beard giving him a great hermit in a cave look. After exploring his cave for awhile I asked about video games. He thought for a moment and then told me has an ipod he never uses. So he whips out this bag and brings me out into the light to inspect it. As it turns out he purchased it to record his lectures but never really got around to it. Wanted 50.00 for the lot but took 40.00.

When I got home and charged it up I found a 5 hour recording of him teaching some kind of training class for healing, meditation, and something to do with god. He talks about the training they will need when they go out to teach others (?). Scary lecture aside I'm happy to actually have an ipod at a decent price.

1000841yx7.jpg

Stopped at an unadvertised sale today, and this just may lead to my biggest score to date. but first this is what I got.

1 Dreamcast w/ 2 controllers, power cord - (no AV)
1 model 1 Genesis w/ Sega Cd, 2 controllers power supply - (no AV)
2 NES controller
1 SNES controller
1 Playstation AV
PS games
Fighter Maker
Jeopardy
HBO boxing
GTA
GTA2
Triple Play 99
Fighting Force
Dreamcast games
Dynamite Cop
NBA 2K
Royal Rumble
NFL Blitz 2001
UFC

I saw 2 bags with this stuff in it and I then asked the lady if she had any more games. This initially did'nt peak my interest aside from the Fighter Maker. Anyway the lady tells me she has boxes and boxes of old video games that belonged to her children who told her to sell it for whatever she could get for it . Problem is they are all packed away in the dirty attic and she needs one of her very lazy children to drag it down for her. I immediately told her I would be interested in buying it all off of her and I could go and drag it out of her attic. She then said that she would be having another sale next Saturday and her son was going to get all the stuff during the week. She then went on to say that there must be at least 500 of those black square games and the gray games and tons of toys like GI joes and those little arcade donkey kong things on top of old toys and junk from when her husband was a kid. I told her I would give her my number and when she gets it down or if she needs help to call me and i'll come to make a deal on everything. She insisted that she would hold it in her garage and that I should come first thing next Saturday which I agreed to. I then asked how much for the stuff and she came back with $10 which was a little steep considering I really did'nt need anything other then the Fighter Maker. But I figured let me drop the $10 without hassle cause I may just be lined up for my biggest score ever.

went to around 10 sales. Didn't find anything video game or other interest related at all. So from sales 0 finds. The only find of the day was at our local pawn shop. Me and my g-saling buddies walked in and started browsing. Right away we could tell one of the employees was very pissed about something. We werent quite sure what but were thinking something along the lines of him losing someones info who they gave a large loan to because they were quite mad. I started to walk away as i wasnt in the mood to get any of this guys rath. However my friend stupidly asked about a ps1 controller they had behind the counter. The guy slammed it onto the table and screamed "TAKE IT" as we ran out of the store vowing to not go in there for a few months again.

Were still a little creeped out but hey a ps1 controller is very nice especially free : ). Also P.S. i picked up a little half price book credit yesterday and saw they had house of the dead 3 for xbox. I remember this being semi rare/ hard to find and was wondering if this was worth picking up. Most xbox games there cost from $5-$7 so i think thats a reasonable price especially since i could pick up a ps1 game with it too.

Do you remember what time you guys got this stuff? It looks like afew of those N64 games have a price of a $1 on them. It amazes me that people ain't gobbling up at least the 1st party mario games up in a matter of seconds/minutes at that price. I don't think they would last more then afew minutes after 8 tops at a yardsale around my area if they were clearly out for sale at a yardsale and an annual town sale which would probably get some good traffic :)

I remember someone a month or two ago making a comment about how alot of people think anything at yardsales = good deals around them and have sold some games that are pretty much worthless or worth afew bucks at a yardsale for more then they would make on eBay. I actually sold afew of those Star Wars PS2/Xbox controllers (new) during a yardsale that they had free at TRU with a PS2/Xbox game last December. I sold them for $5 each and the funniest part is that they probably still have afew at the TRU about 5-10 minutes away marked 5.48 that they can't get rid of.

It was a little after 9AM I believe, and the sale was definitely in full swing. Yeah, like I said in my post, it was a day of reasonably priced items all around. There were 6 games marked $1 each, or $5 for all 6. The Game Boy wasn't tagged, but he responded with $1 when we asked. I agree, it is surprising that those items weren't snatched up sooner at those prices.

Reminds me of the one flea market nearby, I've seen some good stuff around 10-12 that I would think would sell early in the morning at most flea markets in the US at the prices I see like Super Mario 64 for $2 so it reminds me abit of some of the areas you guys go to (unfarmed! for video games or barely)

Since I live around North Eastern PA it seems as if it would almost be worth it to drive up to your area to yardsale for video games :D

not much happening this weekend:

N64 Madden NFL 2000
N64 Army Men: Sarge's Heroes, $1

GBA SP Pelican AC Adapter
GBA Wireless Adapter
XB Remote Control Dongle, $3

DVD West Side Story 2-disc Special Edition
DVD Chappelle's Show Season 1
DVD Jay & Silent Bob Do Degrassi: TNG, $10

DVD Napoleon Dynamite, $1

PC Doom 3 (no box), $3
PS2 Silent Hill 3 Soundtrack, $1

today's total: $19

not much in the way of video games. i turned down no less than 4 Dreamcasts. all were priced fair, but i was once again only interested in the controllers and VMUs (and a couple games), so fair wasn't going to cut it, and no one was hearing any of my lowball offers. this week, my favorite finds were the Doom 3 game (i've never played it and vowed not to pay more than 5 bucks for it, which is what the seller was originally asking) and the Degrassi DVD (i hate Kevin Smith but the show is "so bad it's good", so it was worth $3.33 to me). i picked up the Xbox dongle for the 2nd Xbox i plan on picking up, for the bedroom, mainly just for XBMC.

i decided not to go out today; after a couple markdowns at Circuit City and a coupon at Wherehouse.com, it's for the best. i had to cut my yard saling WAY short yesterday (Saturday), in order to attend a LAN/Halo2 party. the get-together was a blast, like always, but i was more than a little bummed to miss out on a LOT of sales.

We've definitely had to work harder for our finds this season, especially during the latter half. We have confirmed competition for video games in two of the towns we visit.

The first is a flea market vendor who we see weekly. He pretty much just buys any video game stuff laying around (we bought the TG16 stuff off of him several weeks ago) as well as other random toys.

At another town that we usually hit at the end of the day, people have been telling us "Oh, a few people have asked about video games today!" So we have multiple people actually asking at the sales in that town. We haven't gone back for a few weeks, and have considered cutting it altogether: at least for the rest of this season.

We definitely wonder about the people asking. Are they CAGs who have read the tips in the thread? Are they gamers or flea market people who realized "Hrm, I should ask at the sales I visit." Who are they? The actual asking is what makes us wonder about that competition...

Are you really working harder or being more selective? For me personally I think this year has been far easier to find stuff and less time consuming. I also find it much easier to create my own deals. It's much easier to haggle on an item for me now because I believe if I can not get to the price I want to pay that there will always be another deal down the road. The fact that my system collection is immense and I have more games then I'll live long enough to play kinda gives me a ballsy confidence when I'm working my game. This year I've stayed away from areas that I know other game seeking yardsailers frequent which has also contributed to my success. I have noticed though my deals this year have less of a personal thrill then the ones I had last year, and that may just be that my patience level has increased immensly since last year.

The fact that I've scored some really big cheap deals the last couple of years also incites me to pass on deals that are really good but not great. Like the stuff I got today was a really good deal and might be considered great by some but it pained me to shell out $10 for that stuff because I know there's somebody out there that's gonna sell me 7 different systems and 400 different games for $100. I also got to give props to all who contribute to this thread cause I've learned a lot

Found this at about 2:30 in the afternoon, can't believe it was still there. I didnt even look through the bag until I got home and while I was opening it I was really hoping to find Phantasy Star and lo and behold 2 copies! The lady I bought them from told me that she didnt have the system because there were a few games her daughter wanted to keep. Now considering what she got rid of I am really curious what she kept.

Where in NJ are you? I am in Passaic county. Hope we arent overlapping or I will be pissed I missed this one.

It was a real off week for me. I got Hexen for PC in jewel case with manual and back insert for $.25, Namco Museum Vol. 3 in a jewel case for $.25, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Xbox 2nd edition (What does that mean? No Hot Coffee?) in a jewel case for $2.00. I passed on a stack of Xbox games that included SC Chaos Theory, Capcom Collection, and 4 or 5 others I can't remember for $5 each.
At another sale I got a Star Trek 25th Anniversary Special VHS for $1.
And at the last sale the lady was selling 45s (records) 2 for $.25. I found an original 1977 Star Wars Soundtrack with the opening theme and the Cantina theme. Seems like an awesome deal at 12.5 cents. I got a Beetles 45 to make it a quarter. Let it Be is on side A and I don't remember what's on the flipside.

Looks like my best finds this season will be Dragon Warrior 4 NES cart only $2 and, of course, the 3DO in box with games and genesis with Sega CD and games all for $2. It's been downhill from there.

Nice find on the SMS stuff smaaug. I myself have pictured some stuff like TG-16 or SMS just sitting around at a yardsale just waiting for me with no interest from any buyers since it wasen't as popular as the NES or Genesis back in the day.

I think that it'll slowly get harder to find good games (old or new) at yardsales for the obvious reason of the internet as time goes on. I think that overall yardsaling has gotten abit more popular in my area since early last year. I've also had afew people earlier this year tell me that I wasen't the first person to ask about video games.

I think I may even have a rival video game hunter in my town from what I've been told afew times for instance the one guy told me a guy bought a N64 from him then afew weeks later at a different community in sale in town I saw the same guy selling and he was telling me that the same guy bought his games again. I've even seen someone on eBay that lives near me selling an NES & or N64 every so often that I think might be him selling off extra systems.

I also had better luck with advertised sales last year and I think it's partly more competition and partly just that I was lucky to find good stuff at advertised sales early on last year.
