Official 2009 Yard Sale Thread

Meh, no sales were advertised today, and basically all the ones tomorrow are postponed because of possible bad weather. Just gonna hit up the flea market and some stores to look for clearance stuff instead I guess.

Fat (Broken) PS2 With 1st Party Memory Card & A Wired Guitar Hero Guitar - $5

Told me this was broken, was asking $15 but took my offer of $5.

Black GameCube with Hook Ups, GameBoy Player, 1st Party Controller & Madden 2006 In The System - $5

Went to this sale late (about 12:30) after I was done yardsaling since I was passing by, I would have went earlier but it wasen't on my list since they just started advertising on Friday. I do my route list up the day before so I would have everything from the Thursday paper on my route. $5 was the IAP.

Not many sales today so I only went to 8 sales between my town and the next town over. I went out to 2 more sales later on, one advertising something good which I'll get to and the one I got the GameCube at since it was on the way back. No pictures today either just because my finds were that dam boring :D

The one area of town I normally go yardsaling at if it has a decent number of sales I passed on today as it only had two sales and they were spaced out at that. I saw them relist on craigslist last night probably fairly late as I didn't notice it when I rechecked craigslist last night for any newly added sales and didn't notice it until about 10:30-11 this morning after I was done yardsaling and they added some details of what they would have and this caught my eye.

Games - Super Nintendo system (and games), GameBoy and games, Sega Genesis and SEGA CD! with games, Nintendo 64, board games, computer games

Right about the time I saw this it started raining so I finished up some stuff I was doing and figured I'd make a special trip out to see if anything was left when the rain cleared up. I got to the sale at about 11:30 and didn't see anything, asked about older games nope a few different guys wiped them out of everything probably by about an hour or two after they started this morning. The worst part is that the lady mentioned some of the stuff they had and mentioned a Virtual Boy which wasen't mentioned in the ad. She said that they probably didn't pay enough for the games so I'm guessing they might have had them marked and got offered left and took it, like if they had it marked at $25 for a system with games which they felt was cheap but took $10-15.

This same thing happened to me last Sunday also at a yardsale I stopped at on the way to the Flea Market. Had a few systems that all sold Saturday from a few different guys that ended up buying everything between them but they had an Xbox to Sega so I'm guessing it wasen't as rich in the older stuff that interests me more so. This sale I also didn't go to as I wasen't yardsaling in that area Friday or Saturday since I went the other direction from where I live to go out last Saturday because more sales were going on in those towns.

If nothing else this proves that yardsaling has a lot to do with luck as the areas I passed on since I didn't have a good chance of finding anything because of less sales ended up having the motherloads.

Besides the stuff I missed at the one sale I made a special trip out to the sale I hit on the way back that I got the GameCube from mentioned having a Playstation, GameBoy (I'm guessing Advance since they still had a soft case of some sorts for GBA) PSP that must have been at least fairly cheap as it sold (note - the only PSP(s) I can recall seeing this year where over $100) and GameCube games which were all gone.

I then headed off for the games I had won online. they ended up being at a storage unit place, a local hoarder had been keeping his stuff there and didnt pay his rent, they were selling all his games for $4 apiece, or $2 if you buy a lot....They told me some guy had just spent around $1000 on games!!! I saw a pic online of what the guy got....tons of sealed RPGs most rare, tons of other sealed games, tons of open rare games.....amazing!!! I ended up getting this for $22

If I would have just gotten there 2 hours ealier I would be $1000 poorer, but alot happier!!!
Sinnboxx, how did you find out about this storage unit auction and/or these online games you won?

I've heard many a story of hit or miss storage unit auctions, mostly they are "bid or pay X amount for the sight unseen lot of stuff that's in the units, or sometimes you get to look inside and bid that way.

How the hell did this particular sale work???

I've also wondered about those sales. I've never really had the chance to go to one.

I had a good day, for me anyways. I spent spent $11.50. I came away with 2 super nintendo system, a superscope, and 8 PC games. I grabbed fallout, a thief game, a jedi knight game and expansion, diablo 2 and expansion, and I forget what else. I'll post pics tomorrow. I like picking up PC games since people in my area usually price them very cheap compared to console games. I'm not sure when I'll get to these, but at $1 each, I couldn't pass on them.

EDIT

Here's my PC game haul:
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
Baldur's Gate 2
Diablo 2 Expansion (Diablo 2 was also in box)
Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2
Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2: Mysteries of the Sith expansion
Fallout
Thief: The Dark Project

I'll report my findings later on. I should've known better here is the tale of the one that got away.

I stopped at sale that was just starting (person still setting up) and there was no one in sight (no one). There was an NES (with hookups) and a big pile of games (probably 20) mostly utter crap. Anyway, the owner wasn't near . . . so I played it cool and looked at some stuff across the street only to come back 2 mins. later and find a guy buying it for $15 (I was going to try $10). I really didn't see any other customers but I did buy a profitable box of books at the other sale.

Not a big deal overall because he looked poor (this was a low-income street) and I have enough of this stuff--and I'm guessing he wanted it to play it. Still . . .

NEVER take your hands off something you might want to buy!

Do you use one of those price scanner services? If so which one?

Well in between dancing through the rain drops I hit a few sales today. A lot of them had pc stuff but I really don't buy pc games. First couple of sales I found absolutely nothing but out of no where a box of genesis stuff appeared. Yet another Model 2 with a bunch of crappy sports games and with a 15 dollar price tag I decided to pass.

As I continued my day a lot more of nothing but I finally came across some stuff. Went to a sale filled with everything and found these 3 Xbox 360 games. Nothing great but at 5 dollars a piece their not that bad.

Next sale I can across a little game boy pocket. Had a lot of sharpie on it and it's missing the battery cover but it was only 2 bucks. So now I can bundle it with my spare gameboy games. LA's Totally Awesome cleaning solution really comes in handy. It ate the sharpie right up.

Finnaly I came across another Sega Genesis. This time a model 1. It had probably 12 games or so all in box but still a lot of sports stuff. I asked how much and the lady said 10 dollars so I didn't argue. Snatched it right up. But I already have 2 genesis's so I gave it to my cousin and just took the stuff I wanted out of it. Heres what I took.

While it wasn't a great day for sales I didn't do too bad. This is probably my last time out before school starts back up too.

I just got the best deal ever today I tell you what! This guy sold me 3 tanks of propane for $1! Now that's just asinine! But it's good for me cause now I can give them to Mr. Strickland and he'll be happier than I was when I became senior manager!

$5

One of the last sales I stopped at today which was unadvertised, asked about games and they had an Xbox on the porch that they didn't put back out after carrying it back out of the way of the rain on Friday. I left as I wasen't particularly interested but I decided to go back and ask how much since I have been meaning to get a backup if it was cheap enough incase my only Xbox were to break. They said they were asking $5 which I wasen't going to argue!

Was lazy and didn't get out the door until just after 9 but got to about 24 sales in two areas and a few more near my house when I got home. The theme of my finds this week for me was cheap last gen backup systems :D

Barely any games today for 24 sales total not even some of the usual dreck everyone tends to see sitting around at yardsales, besides my Xbox find I saw 1 Xbox game left at a sale and a Wheel of Fortune Handheld if you can count that has a video game, I seem to see one of these not selling at a yardsale almost every week. I also saw the one Atari Plug & Play new but marked at $10.

I only had 2 sales today which mentioned selling video games already when I asked about "Old Nintendo Games Or Any Other Kind of Older Video Games" but they seemed to take that has just video games in general so it was probably just something like some last gen games & didn't describe what was say an old NES with some games or anything like that.

A "Not For Resale" Smash Brothers on the Cube?

What in the world is that from? It wasn't bundled with systems or anything, IIRC.

I'm pretty sure it was bundled.

Yard Sale in TN during the World's Biggest Yard Sale Week in Early August.

I got a working Dreamcast with 2 first party controllers, 1 VMU and Tokyo Extreme Racer 2. Paid 10.00 for everything.

Thanks !

It's a target exclusive bundle. I bought 1 (copy of the game) for $5 early in the season and now I got another one in my big GC lot.

If I hadn't fucked up that NES lot (still bugging me) this would've been a pretty good weekend. As is, not too bad considering it was rainy and cold for both Fri and Sat and I was only able to go out for about 1 1/2 hours each day.

50 cents on Friday . . . only worthwhile because its complete

082909Gen.jpg

Friday . . . marked $5 paid $3 . . . I'm not sure why I got it . . . since I didn't jump on the NES with the big pile o game :)

082909elmo.jpg

50 cents . . . How often do you find a sealed GBC game . . . figures its a crappy one.

082909ps1.jpg

Marked $10 . . . I asked how much and the kid said $3 . . . so I counted with $2. The reset button is jammed down (cuz of something that looks like soda . . . I'll have to soak it with alcohol and see).

Nice find for 25 cents

Funny after seeing Slowdive's GC post, I was thinking it would be cool for find one of these. It was marked $10 and I CIFed $5 but the old lady said it was her daughter's . . . who wasn't around. I pushed her to take $6. Complete but I haven't tested it.

I threw this pic in just for fun. I find these kits and its worth the $2.50 just for the engines. Fun to blast off with my kids.

You just have to tell yourself "I will see another lot"!

Here is my hard luck story from last week.

I went to a GS advertising comic books. I got there 20 minutes early and their sign was up, but the garage door was not open. I hit another nearby sale and came back to the original sale and it had started.

I got up to the sale saw the comics and started looking through them (.25 each BTW). I separated about 8 or 10 books and I ask how much for all of them. The lady says "They are my son's and he is in the shower, but he will be out in a few minutes". So I continue to look through them as a guy walks up to the sale. He literally starts picking up items left and right and asks the lady to make a better deal pretty much on everything he picks up. He tells the lady he will be back later and he leaves.

I am still looking through the 3 comic boxes and I notice someone is looking over my shoulder. AS I turn around the kid wlaks into the garage and the guy who said he would be back is behind me and yells to the kid "How much for all of your comics"? The kid says "I don't know $25 bucks" The guy gives the kid the money and takes the box I am looking at. I still had the ones separated, so I kept those, but I was pissed.
If it was more awake I would have started something, but I am trying to let it go.

Has anyone else noticed that some of us have been finding items in "pairs". I know there was someone who was finding something and then I would find the same thing the next week. Maybe it was the grue or the guy who had gloop or gleep from the herculoids on his avatar.

I am hoping I will find a JVC x-eye like schultzed found!
If I hadn't fucked up that NES lot (still bugging me) this would've been a pretty good weekend.
That's exactly how I am whenever I think about something I could have done better. I keep thinking if I only double checked Craigslist the night before right before I went to sleep I could have made that one sale that had the Virtual Boy and a few other systems my first stop.
Fat (Broken) PS2 With 1st Party Memory Card & A Wired Guitar Hero Guitar - $5

I tried out all of the last gen systems I got this weekend and the xbox just needs a little push usually to get the DVD tray to close and the PS2 to my surprise worked and had a copy of Guitar Hero II in the system, GameCube worked also.

It's funny to think that I paid about $700 for all of these systems new when I got them (Xbox at $180 other two the day they came out) and ended up buying backup systems of each all on the same weekend for $5 each.

PS2 8MB Memory Card (x2), $3 for both

GBA Game Boy Micro w/power supply
GBA Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
GBA The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past/Four Swords
GBA The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, $10 for all

XB Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
XB Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II
XB Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II
XB Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, $10 for all

Sega Master System/Power Base (no cables)
16 games: After Burner, Bomber Raid, Choplifter, Enduro Racer, F-16 Fighting Falcon, Global Defense, Great Basketball, Hang On/Safari Hunt, The Ninja, Pro Wrestling, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Shinobi, Space Harrier, Thunder Blade, $10 for all

I only hit a few sales this weekend, because it was too hot. I'm glad to have found what little I did, considering just how few sales I visited.

For some reason, I keep running into Star Wars games for almost all systems. I have no idea why, but after months of never running across them, I'm now finding them all over the place. Weird.

I also would have loved to get that Game Boy Micro...I've never even seen a real one in my life. They're getting relatively rare. Would have been awesome if you'd snatched a 20th anniversary edition gold/red one.

They had game boy micros on clearance at Target (about 6 months ago). I saw 4 of them for $30.xx each in the case, but I didn't know what they were. I came back after researching them and they were gone.

As for finding items in pairs:

I found a colecovision then I found games about a couple weeks later.

I found 2 copies of Mario Party N64 at the same house, after some cleaning both worked. Dunno whats up with that especially considering the retail price of N64 games. The person at the house said she bought everything new and paid a fortune for it. Its a party game so many people can play on one save file (plus there's more than one save on the file), its not like Pokemon where its beneficial for each person to have their own cartridge because they only hold one save each.

Quick question for all you guys that hit a lot of sales every week. Do you see a lot of "Thomas the Train" toys and if so what are the prices normally on the items. My son really started to like the Thomas toys but they are way too expensive at the stores and most of the Craiglist listings are for huge lots of cars and tracks.

Reading through this just made me remember that I have a NIB 20th anniversary micro in the other room. I really need to go through there and debate on selling some stuff.

Technically from last month but...

Nip Tuck Seasons 2 and 4, Ren & Stimpy Seasons 1&2 - $25
Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO in a RE4 box - $3
Road Runner - $2
Super Mario 64 - $1
World Neverland (jp ps1) - $2
Genesis system + hookups and controllers (not pictured) plus Chuck Rock 2, Sonic 1, Columns, Taz Escape from Mars, Toy Story 2 and the box for Toe Jam and Earl - $10

finds083109.jpg

Robocop (blu) and Tales of Vesperia - $25

Every other game shown + Gamecube system and hookups, 2 PS1 systems and hookups, SNES and hookups and Genesis and hookups - $60

An odd day to find garage sales but I found four in a row within 3 miles of each other. Didn't get much just a bunch of 10cent controllers. I got 3 Sega Genesis controllers and a NES Max controller.

Went to a couple garage sales last weekend and picked up this

Black N64 console complete with 3 controllers and a memory card and
Yoshis Story
Duke Nukem 64
Goldeneye
Mario Party
Madden 2000
1080 Snowboarding
Knockout Champs
-All for just $5.00:bouncy:

DO NOT BUY THOMAS STUFF AT RETAIL. There is way too many parents out there who purchased tons of it and would rather just get rid of it so will sell at pennies on the dollar.

No school tomorrow, so figured I'd give yard saling a try. How much luck do you guys have with finding them on Fridays? There's none listed on CL for tomorrow, and I have to wait for my mom to get home with the paper to look there.

yeah i was hoping to get out tomorrow too but theres barely any advertised, and those that are dont look to promising in terms of finding games

This one ended up being someone that has decided that they get more money if they part out the storage unit, so they make small lots out of each unit, or simply sell the items singaly. The unit they had that week was either a hard core collector, or someone wanting to open a store.
I went back the next week and got a Turbo Duo CIB, a box of about 100 game cases with manuals(including Panzer Dragoon Saga) with no discs, several NEW DS and PS2 games and about 60 Earbud headphones, and several expensive Robotech episodes. All for under $50 I sold 8 of the ear buds to a local game store for $20 so I am half way to paying it all off. I have been without internet for about 2 weeks though so I should have pics of that haul and a 40 game Saturn haul up soon.

My town is different. Most yard sales are on friday and game stuff is usually gone very quickly. It'll really suck when I get a job and can't go yard saling anymore. I really enjoy looking for game stuff. I've gotten almost all the game consoles that I want.

Just getting ready to head out. There's two 8 am starts that don't look great (I'm walking so I won't be there right away), but there's one advertising specifically that they have consoles and games. Hopefully I catch a break.

Last week, I only ended up picking up a sealed George Jones CD for .50 (for my grandfather).

Woo!

Quick backstory... I started heading to a yardsale out a ways and passed the street for the console one, around 8:30 (it opened at 9). I headed down the little side street and the lady and her mother let me in and were selling all games $1 a pop. As soon as I picked up Castlevania: Bloodlines for the Sega (second copy) some dude who was there already starts buying up boxes of them. I beat him to every box minus PS2 (which I don't know much about) and snagged all the good-great finds. Luckily he was an idiot and didn't know the Gamecube is backwards compatible with the Wii as he said his kid sold the Gamecube to buy a Wii.

All in all I dropped $16 on the following...

2yjzepd.jpg

(The SNES ones are a little blurry, but they're Zombies Ate My Neighbors and TMNT IV. I have ZAMN already (well I did... my bro might have it now as he says he has a copy he got at a yardsale and I couldn't find mine in the attic) and the 16th missing one in SMB:All-Stars which I got for my dad as I have a copy already. (T2 is for my friend as I have a copy and my friend bought the arcade).

EDIT: All disc games are complete. Only defect is Marvel vs. Capcom for the Dreamcast is in a broken case and has sharpie markers on it. The case is no big deal as I have a stack of blank ones I bought at a thrift store for .25.

I hit up another yardsale and picked up the Stan Lee/Kevin Smith "Mutants, Monsters and Marvels" DVD for $3. I was a little late, sadly, as the old lady was going to sell the DVDs for .25 but her daughter showed up. I had a nice handful of decent titles, but put them back as they weren't worth it to me. Hit up another yardsale with $1.50 DVDs but they were pretty much all chick flicks.

Finally stopped at a final one as they were setting up. They had DVDs/PS2 sports titles for $5 a piece. The DVDs were actually decent/newer stuff like Death Race, butagain I passed at $5.

All in all a great day. I'm pretty sure I've paid off Halo 3:ODST and L4D2 now. :)

I haven't seen them around here other than the odd item or 2. If you have thrift stores that have piles of toys check those, as sometimes people will donate the stuff there. You would probably spend less on a huge lot of cars and track then you would on just a few toys at retail depending on the prices people are charging for it. Almost every Xmas I see them on sale at Target after Xmas, so if you can't find any used, you could always go that route.

I found Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire III and IV and Black Label FFVII sans manual at a sale for $6 total, all discs are near mint condition. I saw secret of mana out in the open, then looked around and didn't see anything else. In another area I lifted up an old adam sandler cd and found the three ps1 games. I asked if they had anymore games, he said no they sold most of them yesterday. I can't really fathom what was there...

Picture24.jpg

Got all of these for $1, didn't complain:
Sega CD - Ecco, complete, perfect condition
Sega CD - StellarFire, complete, perfect condition
Sega Genesis - Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition, complete, perfect condition
Sega Genesis - Battletoads DoubleDragon, complete, perfect condition

Any one want these? PM me.

Saw two other Sega CD games, not in great condition, a whole bunch of other genesis games (about 12, a genesis, and a joystick were all listed for $50, lucky to get those two for $20).
