Official 2010 Yard Sale Thread
As I was leaving with the other games, he said $15 if I want to risk not testing it. I took it, and it does work. The backup battery needs to be replaced though. Came with a Sonic game too.
Don't bother swapping the backup battery out as they seem to die on their own accord in a ridiculously fast manner. I bought my NGPC from EBgames back in 2000 and I remember having to swap that stupid $5 battery out nearly every time I turned the system on (and I barely played the thing). I think it drains even when the system is off, either that or those particular batteries are garbage. They are the same kind that are in Dreamcast VMUs (which also seemed to drain batteries on their own accord).

Thanks for the heads up. I'll not bother with it then.

On the other hand, I had NO IDEA this thing wasn't backlit. It's awesome as hell from my perspective, but it is so hard to see.

Went to a church sale today and the lady let me have a solid box of 115+ science fiction books from the 60s and 70s for $8.00. The thing that caught my eye when digging were the Lensman books by e.e. doc smith (reprints of course, but still)! Other names of interest include A.E. van Vogt and Lloyd Biggle Jr.

Picked up Miyaki's Spirited Away on DVD for 75 cents (I know most of these have some value ever since I purchased Nausicaa), the same guy had Metalocalypse vol. 1 but wouldn't sell it to me once he started talking about how cool he thought it was XD

As for video games, I made one interesting hit. Maybe not a super fantastic deal, but I'll leave that one for you to decide.

D
Heart of Darkness
Metal Slug X
Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of the Flesh (PC)
:ps2: Clock Tower 3
:ps2: Silent Hill 4: The Room

All for $50. The guy started out with some nonsense of wanting 60 or 70 dollars, but I was able to knock him down some using the old "Where are some of these manuals boss?" I've been wanting to play the 2nd Phantasmagoria for the last 14 years or so, and this has been the first time I've seen it in the wild.

Not much else to report; well, unless you want to hear about the insane lady on the road overlooking my childhood elementary school who wanted $7 for ps2 Devil Kings and $15 for a Final Fantasy 13 Strategy Guide. Ooo, and she also had a Dragon Age Origins Guide marked for $20--Asylum level madness right there, you think she's ready to be checked in?

i recently found one for $4 and that back up battery was dead also. The dollar place at the flea market here has 10 packs of those batteries (CR2032) for a buck. I think their the same ones in NES carts, i was mainly happy to finally have a use for one of those batteries, lol.

The CR2032 batteries are a must to have around for us yard sale folks as you run into tons of stuff that require them and the battery is almost always dead in. I usually buy mine at dealextreme as I think they have a 20 pack or so for around $3-4. If you collect tamagotchi's like I do, you must buy the 20 pack!

Lots of sales today but nothing really exciting. Here's everything in one go.

10i6xar.png

Crash Bandicoot R/C Go-Kart NIB - $2
Sonic the Hedgehog R/C car NIB - $3
Master System: Paperboy and Joe Montana Football - $.50 each
GB Super Mario Bros Deluxe - $1
5 or 6 Game Informer mags - free (pretty recent ones - Gears of War 3, Dead Space 2 - plus two copies of issue 200 with alternate covers, Tetris and Super Mario Bros. Worth anything?)

So yeah, that's it. Sonic and Crash were from different sales oddly. Early 90's Sonic merch is always cool to find.

Ooh, any Andre Nortons or Anne McCaffreys? I'm jealous- everyone here sells the same Dean Koontz books.

The magazines aren't worth much yet, afaik. I have the metroid variant myself.

And thanks for all the advice on the batteries, etc. I keep telling myself I would put together a small kit to bring along so I can test stuff, but I always forget. Even 4 AA batteries would make things smoother.

In my experience, the most cliché, typical thing I see at every sale would have to be Danielle Steel / Dean Koontz / John Grisham novels. Well, that, and unused George Foreman grills.

Thought not, can't hurt to hang on to 'em though. Their top 200 list is rubbish but I didn't expect much from GI.
The smoke detector. =P
My GF, obviously =P And as funny as it is to me, I don't even let her cut vegetables cause she's that clumsy =P And yes, we're in different rooms atm.

Yep, and Stephen King. I bet if you can get all 8 variants or whatever together, it'd be worth saving.

Witch World sounds familiar; not in this lot but god knows what I have (and had) in my unread pile. I've got Anne McCaffery's Dragon Flight in my personal collection + The City Who Fought yet to be read.

I'm the same way about seeing crap books at sales; I figure I'd might as well specialize in stuff I enjoy so when I go to sell or trade, I'll at least have a shot at getting 50 cents to a dollar, or being able to trade for stuff I can't find (like Robert McCammon's Stinger--I should've nabbed this from the senior center bookrack when I had the chance) :bomb:

SNES With 2x 1st Party Controllers, RF Adaptor, AC Adaptor, Super Mario World & Super Mario All-Stars - $5

Offered .25 for the Dreamcast controller which was taken. Wipeout, no price took a buck. Extension cords came out of a free box. Asked about video games at one house and the kid went in and rounded up the N64 controller and said I could have it. NES games I found at one of my first sales in a box with some PS2 dreck, DVDs, VHS and were marked .25. The 4 PS1 games were most of what was in a small pile, $1 each took $3 for 4 and let me have the Crash 3 case when I asked (will go nice with the disc only copy I got last week).

The SNES was rather late in the morning, asked about games and came out telling me that not much was found but I said I'd be interested. The games were brought out and a hint was given about a system which I was told may not work and I offered $5 for all of it and wouldn't complain if it didn't work right which was taken. Mentioned selling most of the games last year which were mostly "fighting" games.

18 Video Game Related Books & Not Pictured Some D&D Stuff & A World of Warcraft Card Game - $2

Asked about video games at this sale and the lady brought something out and apologized since it wasen't games but I could see how the mistake was made. Saw a few I didn't have of interest and asked about getting rid of the whole box and offered $2 which was fine as I was told anything left was just going to be thrown out.

Atari 2600 With 3x Controllers, Hookups, Pile of Manuals & 26 Games - $15

This really isn't from a yardsale but from an auction that was early on my usual Saturday route (after my 3rd YS) and started at 8:30. I got to the auction shortly before it started and couldn't find the Atari asked and nobody working with the auction place saw it and I was about to leave to maybe come back later to see if it was still around since this was going to be an all day auction but somebody went and asked the owner of the house about it and ended up coming back with it and even was nice enough to put it right up for auction without me asking them to which was very nice as some places are stubborn about doing this and will tell not till x time when I ask or tell me they will but don't put it up for an hour or more. I took a quick look over the Atari stuff not noticing the one skill lever broken and while I was looking it over the only guy that bid against me didn't take a good look at it but kind of walked over me as I was looking at it and took a quick look over my shoulder. First bid was from the other guy at 2.50 and oddly enough was bid up in 2.50 increments, no tax or buyer's premium.

Non Find BS -
Mostly the same old usual BS for the most part. Got out the door just after 8 and was out for almost 5 hours and got to about 65 sales thanks to some unadvertised sales, advertised sales that end up having another 1-3 other houses nearby also selling and a few block sales (had about 33 sales on my list).

Only overpriced stuff I remember was the sale I got Namco Museum Vol. 3 from which also had a good amount of PS2 games, some marked $10 and some $8 stopped looking at the prices after that since I didn't see anything interesting anyways.

One house late in the day I missed an Atari in the box with no games, mentioned it was $15 and took $10 again the house with Namco Museum Vol. 3 mentioned that they had some Nintendo games which sounded like old carts that I missed and the hosue I got the Playstation extension cords from was advertising DS games and mentioned those and some PS2 games that I missed.

Only unique non find story was at a sale with some misc current gen games, PSP stuff marked $5 each 360, Wii, DS $10 and a DS Lite marked $60. I was only interested in and offered $5 for Kirby Squeak Squad to which mom said she would have to ask her son who just went inside but said that somebody offered $5 earlier and was turned down. Junior stepped out and said no and him and his mom were happy to let me know that they were selling the other games just fine for asking price as if to let me know they don't want/need to haggle at all to sell them. I said how about you meet me in the middle at $8 which was also turned down and I was told that an "old lady" said that she was going to come back and buy all of the DS stuff to which I said well I'm here right now but nothing was going to budge them. It's ok if sellers don't want to haggle at the risk of not making a sale and in some cases I will fold and pay asking price after making a lower offer but in this case I didn't feel like paying full price even if it's still good as I would have felt like a fool folding after being threatened with the old lady bit that was almost surely BS.

Wow, back in 2000 those batteries were $5 each at Target. For $0.10 it wouldn't hurt to keep the backup battery working.

Yea, but depending on what chemistry's in them, air can discharge them too. The zinc whatever ones are like that.

I've never really found much science fiction or fantasy books at garage sales. Since we finally got a Half Price Books, I've been going through the clearance section there. The prices in their clearance section are about the same as most garage sales. I've had some pretty good finds from there. I've had enough luck there that my book case is full.

Found a lot of gaming stuff this week and had a good time looking around.

17 Boxed complete Odyssey 2 games for $10 (wanted $15)

I don't have an Odyssey 2 only an original Odyssey, but you never know I might find one and they'll look nice in my collection.

PS one w/ wires. 4 Controllers, & 28 games = $20 (wanted $30)

Pac-Man World (no manual)
Bob The Builder: Can We Fix It?
Cool Boarders 4
Action Bass
Tomb Raider
Madden NFL 99
NFL Blitz (no manual)
Gex
Jet Moto
Pipe Dreams 3D
NCAA Football 2001
Destruction Derby 2
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (no case)
Need for Speed: High Stakes
Asteroids
WCW/nWo Thunder
Dragon Tales: Dragon Seek
NCAA Final Four 2000
Atari Anniversary Edition Redux
NBA Shoot Out 2001
Area 51
Tony Hawk Pro Skater
Gran Turismo 2
NHL 99
NFL GameDay 2001
Motocross Mania
Knockout Kings
Duke Nukem: Time To Kill (no manual or case)

All games are almost scratch free and everything works great, there is a lot of sports games and a few kids games. but i think I got a good deal at $20. It wasn't the woman's PSone so she had to call her brother and to see if it'd be ok.

Gamecube w/ wires, 3 controllers, 4 memory cards, & 7 games. $15 (wanted $30)

NBA Courtside 2002
Die Hard: Vendetta
Robots
Spider-Man
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
SpongeBob SquarePants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman
Lost Kingdoms (had a case & manual, but they had mold on them and were sticky)

Everything looks fantastic, except for the Lost Kingdom case & manual which looked nasty. They woman was very tired and didn't seem like she wanted to lug all her stuff back in, so she took my offer quick. The memory cards are one 59 block, two 251 block, one 1019, not a bad deal on it's own.

Sonic Pinball Game = $1
Donkey Kong County 3, Starfox 64 (no case), Banjo Kazooie Soundtracks = $0.75
Atari plug & play keychain (has Centipede & Yars Revenge on it) = $1
Sephiroth Extra Knights Figure = $1.75 (wanted $2)
Voltron: Revelations DVD = $1.00
Sonic & Ms. Pac-Man = FREE

The Sonic pinball game works great and lights up and moves like it's supposed to. The woman with the soundtracks was a very nice older woman who had about a 20 minute conversation with me. I picked up the Sephiroth figure & the Voltron DVD at the same sale where they had a lot of anima figures and manga. Sonic & Ms. Pac-Man were in a box of free stuff so that was kinda cool.

Some non gaming finds a boxed original sideshow 16" Chucky doll from Child's Play for $15. Here's a picture of his face.... it's kinda creepy.

I have the McDonalds Tamagotchi Happy Meal display in my basement...

AND

No. I do not have a windowless van with "ice cream" spray painted on the side.

Well, went to who knows how many garage/yard sales this weekend... someone had a lot of NES games for $16 for about 8 games... all but 2 were sports titles.. wouldn't budge. Same sale had 2 gamecubes for 20 each. Few people had PS2/PS3 sports/racing games for $5+ each... overall a fail.

I really didn't go out this weekend. Ended up helping my grandfather setup a booth at a farmer's market. He's trying to sell his hand made birdhouses.

I haven't really done very well this year, in terms of game stuff. My brother has done pretty well picking up stuff for an apartment when he moves out. It just goes in his storage unit for the moment. He said he's practically furnished a whole apartment with just a couple hundred dollars.

It's a little weird to hear someone dropping $50 at once in this thread, and not get a console or a 5 gal tote full of games out of it. But I think you made out fairly well. Metal Slug X and Phantasmagoria 2 are the highlights to me, but apparently D and Hearts of Darkness (never even heard of it) are worth $20+ each. Plus, I can't ever say that getting a Clock Tower game is a bad thing.

Yeah, sometimes I have to hug a tighter margin to get deals (I'm guessing the face value on these are $75, so I paid about 66 percent), especially when both the seller and myself knows that there's value to the items. For some reason I thought Phantasmagoria would be worth more...but no matter, any game that you want to play and don't lose money on is a win in my book.

"D" was the first playstation game I played. I remember you had to play through the whole game and could not save it. I think it was only a couple hours long though. I remember being freaked out when I played it. Sorry random thoughts.

Yeah, I picked it up last summer from Vintage Stock for $5 on the 3DO. Vintage Stock will pretty much price any 3DO or import game $5 since they have no clue how much it is worth. It is in my backlog and I haven't played it yet, but I'll hopefully get into it this summer.

Garage sales for me these past two weeks have been pretty poor compared to last year. One woman on Saturday saw me carrying a SNES I picked up at another sale down the street and asked if I was interested in an NES. I said sure. She brings out a boxed near mint NES with a boxed Power Pad and a boxed Super Mario Bros 3. She asked how much I would take, I said $20. She said she would take no more than $150 and I said see you later.

You could get them resurfaced at Family Video, Hastings, etc. If you don't want them, I'll take them off of you.

A challenge, I can dig it. :) It's funny because I just saw D on a CAG's want list, and I remembered D2 from a Gamefan review (seems like I'm picking up a lot of games from that era lately).

Today for $4 each:

Nintendo 64
Super Mario 64 w/manual
Super Smash Bros.
Mario Party 2
Yoshi's Story w/manual
InterAct Game Shark w/manual

Super Nintendo-
Super Mario All-Stars
Donkey Kong Country w/manual

Also picked up Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid VR Missions strategy guides for $2 each. Not great prices but better than Ebay.

Any other places that would do the resurfacing? Neither of those are out by me.

Well I finally got my pics taken. I got all of this stuff on Thursday and pretty much took the rest of the weekend off.

The theme of the week is quality, not quantity...and also Nintendo :D

Found these for $0.50 each, paid 3/$1. Common stuff, but good for reselling a system.

RAD on VHS $0.25 I bought it just for the memories, but apparently it is one of the better $ value VHS tapes.

Found these Pokemon / gameboy items for $0.25 each. The albums are filled with Pokemon cards.

OK this is non gaming but I am excited about it! $5
I am too lazy to snap a pic.

Super Nintendo, controller, hookups, PS1? memory card, and 4 games.

One of the games is Tecmo Superbowl II Special Edition (one of the few sports game that are worth more than a penny).

It was marked Make Offer, I offered $2.00, she thought about it and accepted.

IAP $20. I offered $10, she said "No $20", I offered $15 and said "That is as high as I am willing to go". She said "$20". I started to walk away (but I was going to buy it at $20 anyway) and her friends said "Take the $15", so she did...And I paid with a $20 haha

I got: NES, hookups, 3 standard controllers, 1 NES advantage, 1 NES Max, 3rd party flight stick, light gun, and 14 games with manuals as well as the system manuals, poster, etc.

Last, but not least slowdive's find of the week!

Gameboy Micro BRAND NEW / Factory Sealed

IAP $10.00

Got it for $5.00. :whee:

This is the same lady I bought the fridge from. She had nice stuff for sale.

in my area, you get saturday for yard sales, on rare occasions sundays and even rarer friday, but those are usually like church sales or something like that.
Is it worth going out on Thursday for you guys?
For me no, I do remember a few years back one Thursday going to a decent number of sales on a Thursday and finding some stuff. I typically only go to any yardsales Thursday if they are right in town.

Nothing here yard sale wise, although I did just come back from vacation so I probably wasn't looking too hard.. Sidenote: I just found out there's a Sega Retail Outlet in Vegas. :D
Today for $4 each:

Nintendo 64

Super Mario All-Stars
Donkey Kong Country w/manual

4$ apiece for those games is a great deal, when I was more active in garage sailing if I found those games(except for the game shark) I was happy to get them for $5-$10 apiece, most could get me $20+ on Ebay, or more if I consigned them to the local game trader(he sold most for $30 - a 15% commission) most sold within a week!!!

Slow dives finds out in the wild is giving me hope that i will find something at yardsales this weekend. Will be last one for the summer:cry:

Whoa, got buttraped over my Sega store comment. Just to let everyone know, the Sega Retail Outlet in Las Vegas is on the Strip, inside GameWorks (just down the street from the MGM Grand), and is pretty spiffy.

Meanwhile, there's some big block party/yard sale tonight, and they're promoting it as a church fundraiser. Maybe I'll find some hidden gems.

Here's what I found today:

Pikachu Edition Nintendo 64 (system/AC adapter) - $2
NES (system only) - $1
3x NES controllers - $1.50
Dreamcast (system/controller) - $2

I should have some cords/controllers around somewhere to complete these. They all are heavily crusty, so they'll need a good cleaning. Not too bad for what I paid, though.

Got ahold of some ps1 games today by stopping at a place I thought just had a bunch of cd's stacked when I drove by not even looking for a YS. Picked up..

- Resident Evil Directors Cut
- Resident Evil 3 w/Dino Crisis Demo Disc
- Syphon Filter 2
- Twisted Metal 2
- Twisted Metal 4 (Disc Only)
- Tomb Raider II (Disc Only)
- Vigilante 8 2
- Jet Moto
- Grand Theft Auto
- Final Doom (Disc Only)

....... Total= $7.50

At various thrifts and pawn shops:

Winsor Pilates Power Sculpting Advanced - $2.75
Winsor Pilates Sculpting Circle Advanced - $2.75
TI-85 - $5
Windows ME Millennium Edition - $2
Terminator 2 NES Complete - $3.99
Rollergames NES Complete - $3.99
Call of Duty Modern Warfare Wii - $15
Fading Shadows PSP - $10
Star Wars Bounty Hunter PS2 - $5
Yakuza 2 in HWV case no manual - $5
Dragon Age Origins 360 - $5

I flopped on the NES games, Star Wars Bounty Hunter, Fading Shadows and 2/3 of the Winsor Pilates DVDs. :(
The thing I'm most happy about is DA:O for $5. It was supposed to be $10 and the guy at the pawn shop wouldn't go any lower, but he rang it up with the $5 PS2 game I also bought and said it would be $10 total, I didn't complain. It sucks though because they also have a $10 copy of Mario Kart Wii but it had Wii Sports in it.

Not the best deals today, but still some good stuff:

N64 Star Soldier - IAP $1

This was the only decent game they had that I didn't already own.

Frogger with box for Atari 5200 - IAP $1

This was just sitting out. I talked with the runners for a bit about Atari, this was all they had, so I didn't miss anything. I still don't have an Atari 5200 to play it on though.

NES Double Dragon
NES Ice Climbers
NES Stinger
NES Xenophobe
NES Deja Vu
NES American Gladiators
NES Time Lord
NES Ring King
NES Blades of Steel
NES 10-Yard Fight
NES Smash TV
NES Bubble Bobble
NES Contra
NES WWF Wrestlemania
NES WWF Wrestlemania Challenge

They were asking $2/game, got these 15 for $20. Unfortunately, I missed a lot here. She said she had 3 tubs (small tubs, these games took up a little over half of a tub) full of games, but most of them went yesterday (Thursday sales are fairly common here). There were a few N64 games left, so I probably missed a lot for that system, but I can't imagine I missed too much NES stuff since most of the titles left were pretty solid games.I already had the last 4 games, but I'm got them for one of my friends.

Interesting story:
Went to one of the only Friday sales this week today. Although it was pretty crappy out that morning, the sale was set "till 8pm" so I went at around 3.

Interuptted his toking session, I believe. House smelled of the cheapest pot money can buy/you can grow, and before the host let us in he did shut and lock a door behind him.

Also, it burned my throat.

All he had was a 2600 with a small tub full of 2600 games, carts only, and no rare ones.

Pity he didn't share any of the smokems.
