----------------------------------------------------------------------

FAQ

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
USPS Media Mail

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
Yes. If you’re worried about your package, definitely take advantage of these shipping options. You’ll just have to pay a little extra to ship your games. NOTE: There have been cases where the post office doesn’t allow adding these options on prepaid shipping labels, but try anyway or go to a different post office.

I don't trust Media Mail. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
43 Broad st. C403
Hudson, MA 01749

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit in 3 to 5 business days, however.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the trade-in deal?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however. On the other hand, older gen games, such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 10 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that it might still raise red flags. No one has reported attempting this so we do not know for sure. 2 to 3 copies of a game should be okay, but more than that is pushing it. Also, keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always edit or cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
Yes.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Does the ECA discount stack with the trade-in deal coupon?
Yes.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?
Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.
What makes a UMD movie complete? do u have to send a manuel or inserts....because I have 7 copies of this in surround gamestops
Not sure but I remember purchasing it from Gamestop awhile back and it had no booklet or any insert...just the case and disc.

I'm starting to wonder if I should have held off on it though, as it seems to be fetching a higher price than I thought.

They are selling them online at game stop for 6. I locked in 10 at TIV 15. so spending 60dollars will get me 90 profit plus an extra 30 with the coupon. That is a win in my book.

Sent off my games from NorCal on monday July 20th, and they recieved it today. All my games checked out... but then again all my games are always in impeccable condition. Now I'm just waiting on the 50% coupon...

B&N uses Gamestop as their provider. I remember being able to get the SFIV fightsticks through B&N because Gamestop had given B&N a set allocation of them to sell.
hey what did you send them because I also got the 50 coupon code instead of 50%. resend them a link where it showed ps3 controllers and the g25 was there. tried calling them multiple times but they say they will send it to marketing. can you give us some tips
Update on G25 50% and 10% codes:
Wow, another prompt reply. Finally got a full refund to reflect the 50% + 10% discount. So about $116 off of $211 when I ordered. Took a week and a day, but it was worth it. I guess the marketing dept. was either on vacation or swamped.

Giving them calls weren't very effective from what I saw, other than pestering them and maybe, just maybe getting their attention. Just sounded like the cust. service rep sent the marketing dept. emails, which you can just do by yourself. I sent emails containing my codes, both the 50% promotion and the 10%. Also included a link to the promotion details. Also for the 10%, told them about ECA and their site, www.theeca.com. These emails I sent were classified under deal/promotion and of course contained my already placed order number.

Took about a week and a day, but I managed to get them to rectify the situation.

Hope this all helps.

No GSs near me have any silent hills, and online there's only one in stock. So the trouble of finding this doesn't seem worth it to me.

By the way...

I can tell you from experience....

Don't submit high quantities of any single item.
It will kill the TIV within a day. Go ahead and test this on a dvd movie no one wants. I don't know for sure what the magic number is, but 10 definitely kills it.

- Always submit 1. Then up the quantity and re-submit before you ship
- The TIV will remain the same even if it drops

Be careful ordering online from Gamestop too. I've had a ton of games recently come without manual and cover art. I think it's pretty safe on recent games that they have lots of copies of, but something a little more obscure I've found you are almost guaranteed to get a crappy package. I'm dealing with tons of returns right now and wish I never got involved with Gamestop.
Street Fighter 4 (ps3) fetches $18.50 on Amazon's TIV and is available tomorrow for $20 at gamestop.
So what you're saying is a high quantity won't stay locked in if you enter it all at once? I'm confused.
I think he is saying don't ruin it for the rest of the people.
Bingo.

And on that note, it looks like you guys cleared out Gamestops and B&N's (even if they are combined) stock on Silent Hill Experience.
So what you're saying is a high quantity won't stay locked in if you enter it all at once? I'm confused.
No. Your TIV (trade in value) is locked as soon as you hit the 'Submit your trade-ins' button. You now have 7 days to mail your games and are free to change quantities at any point within these 7 days.

EX: You can lock in 1 copy of Street Fighter IV today at $18.50. You can change it to 3 copies 7 days later and will now get $18.50 x 3 (for a total of $55.50). It doesn't matter what price the site says it is at right now. You locked in your TIV.
I think he is saying don't ruin it for the rest of the people.
yes. We've seen TIVs change within a couple hours on totally low-key game such as Ski-Doo, One Piece, etc. The inventory system seems to update TIVs automatically.

how long does it normally take for them to receive the games? I sent mine last wednesday, getting a little concerned that they havent received yet
how long does it normally take for them to receive the games? I sent mine last wednesday, getting a little concerned that they havent received yet
Depends on where you shipped it from and if you chose the pre-paid slips...

The facility I shipped mine to was located in MA (I'm in VA). I sent it off Friday afternoon and they received it this morning...so about 2 days for me.

Nice, 10 of them. Thanks for leaving some for the rest of us. looks like cag is basically SD now.
just go to your recommendation preferences. and turn all the past purchases into "don't use for recommendation." I have 5 things in recommendations so i'll be expecting a nice goldbox tonight.
Thanks. I did do this before and removed everything except Orange Box (pc) and some whey protein. I still get horrible suggestions :(

I have now added a camera battery and underwater camera case to my shopping cart. Hopefully that tricks the system into putting the corresponding cameras in my box :D

Some people are so greedy. :bomb:

I hope you guys already locked in Silent Hill Experience because it's TIV just tanked to $8

SFIV's TIV just dropped to $12 as well

Looks like someone on amazon really is reading this thread.

I got my 50% off voucher after trading in games. I went ahead and ordered Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition for $75 after discount. Night vision goggles for me!

 I knew SFIV was a good example

I'm telling you guys it isn't someone reading these threads. Its their inventory system. Someone is submitting large quantities and the TIV automatically adjusts. Once again ONLY SUBMIT 1 OF EACH GAME. Then change the quantities later

Holy hell, that was quick. I'm actually surprised they reacted to SF IV like that unless it is automatic (yeah, Japakneez - I think you are right). I mean, this is just a quick temp sale at GS and they would be getting like-new copies that people are sending in at a loss. They should be able to sell them easily later once the GS sale is over (Aug 2nd).

My stupid Internet was broke like 3 hours this afternoon - bad timing. However, I knew it would be like this so I locked in SF IV using my iPhone via 3G - that was a life saver! I forgot about the Silent Hill thing, though, and the GS nearest me shows one in stock. Oh well - I'll just have to hope it is disc-only so I won't feel too bad ;).

How do you know that? any other worthwhile games dropping in price? Not really looking to trade them in, but rather purchase them at this price.

will u still send them in even if some of them are not complete with case or manual ?
i found one without the manual, wasn't sure should i submit that

Actually I don't think UMD movies come with manuals. The one I picked up at my local gamestop also didn't have a manual. You should be fine from what I'm hearing.
thanks man, i saw the case has a slot and i thought there should be sth there... hope u didn't pick up the one i saw lol
Yea UMD's share the same cases as games so the slot's always there. Whenever they do have something, it's always 1 card that shows "other movies on UMD for PSP". So even if it's missing it's useless.

unless you live in the 408 I doubt I picked up your copy.
So, my order total dropped to $120.

I just emailed them to ask if they would add an ECA code to the order (I just joined).

They just email back with the old total . . . has anyone had any luck getting ECA added after their order???
Alright, they emailed back and have taken off $24 (but before the 50% instead of after as others had gotten). I don't think I have the heart to fight for $12 more.

But this brings my total down to $108 . . . so after my $53 in credit, I'm at $55.

Well, I just received my "cracked" KOTORII today. There are some surface scratches on the back, but nothing enough to actually affect play of it. Running a fingernail across the back of it drags on nothing. I could run it through a Hollywood Video Disc Buffing and have it looking spotless.

Now I'm not entirely sure what I should do. I can't return it. Trading it back in would have me lose the few dollars in credit that I wanted in the transaction (especially if I paid to get it buffed). I suppose I could sell it on eBay.

Regardless, seems like Amazon is pretty picky about scratches on discs... even if they'd play.

,

So not only did SF IV drop from $18.50 to $12,
but also ExciteBots dropped from $16.50 to $13,
and Animal Crossing City Folk from $16.50 to $12.

I did lock those last two in just in case I can't find SF IV, but even at $16.50 that is kind of low. I'm surprised enough people locked it in for those to drop as well.

i locked in both excitebots and animal crossing, since i was holding RE:UC, rayman tv party, and watched their value drop from double digit to single digit, better safe than sorry

Well... just got my rejected game back...can't believe this actually happened to me. After trading in about 100 games, this being my 5th trade-in, they actually swapped out my 360 copy of Sonic Unleashed and sent me back a ps2 copy of it, of course pasting a sticker on the case saying "incorrect item."
I'm so fucking angry right now. This was my own copy clean copy of the game that I bought for the 360 last year on amazon. This was trade-in of 5 games, and being the paranoid person I am, I check the games almost 10 times before shipping anything out. This is the first game that I've ever had rejected but still, I know for damn sure that I sent all the correct items. I don't even have a ps2 anywhere around me. I feel so fucking cheated, scammed.
fuckin' NorAm can go to hell

Did you take a picture of the game? Complain to Amazon and tell them about your immaculate trade in record. Provide proof that you sent them the correct item. Just bitch like crazy and I'm sure you'll get something out of it.

I've only done one trade in with Amazon and it was successful. I took pictures of everything and made sure I got DC. But yeah, the company can just be a dirty company. Best of luck to you.

that was scary, even way worse than my experience with spun.com
god bless you, looking forward to your happy ending, keep posting plz, i would like to know how it ends up, and that reminds me, i will take a pic b4 sending my next trades in

Yeah, I should've taken some pictures, but after all those successful trade-ins, I felt confident, only to get screwed over now.

I guess I'll have to do it from now on. Don't want to risk anything anymore. I know for sure I won't be trading anything to amazon for a while, that's for sure.

I'm hoping amazon will make up for this

Took about a week and a day, but I managed to get them to rectify the situation.

Hope this all helps.
Out of curiosity, what did the original reply state? Something like it was a mistake on their side and they will honor it, or was it more like this is a customer service thing we're doing to keep you as a customer. I'm at the same point with them minus the actual order. I sent the link to the promotion, all the directions on how to find the G25 under the video game store, ps3 accessories and my 50% promo code. They said they would contact me by 7/27 but they still haven't sent me anything yet

I'm hoping they recognized its a mistake on their end and I don't have to fight this anymore, if they did it for you as a customer service thing then I think I still have a long way to battle.
Damn it...the denied my Pac Man World 3, saying it was cracked. There is no way. Great now I lose that coupon. F this!
Once you get it back (or do it now), dispute it. Don't just be a wuss and give up so easily. If the 50% off coupon really meant that much to you, then you wouldn't give up like this. Hell, you know what? If you complain to Amazon about their third-party company, that's another customer dissatisfied with them. The more people that complain about a similar problem, the more likely the problem will get Amazon's attention.

If it really IS cracked, then I hope you took pictures or something like that.

COMPLAIN! GIVE 'EM HELL (but be polite about it )!

The original reply simply said reread the detail and if it qualifies, place the order and email the order number with the problem for them to fix it.

The second reply was more like acknowledging that the G25 qualified and they would issue refunds to compensate. Here are excerpts from my email.
I'm sorry to hear that the promo codes that were issued to you did not apply to your order #(insert order number here).

I've researched the codes that you supplied and found that promo code (insert 50% code here) qualified you for $50 (initial mistake, supposed to be 50%) off of the Logitech G25 Racing Wheel. The other code you supplied was a discount code (insert ECA 10% code here), which qualified you for an additional 10% off of the Logitech G25 Racing Wheel.

To compensate you for this I have issued you a refund for (insert according $ amount here)
I believe they don't do anything to fix the website problem. So instead they address each as an isolated incident and research and follow up on the problem, then manually apply the discounts to each. That's a guess, really. I think ordering the item, then inquiring is what got me anywhere. I'm really not quite sure how their marketing dept. works, whether or not they have direct access to the Amazon website or not. But they for sure can issue refunds.

also, did some experimenting:
MY 50% CODE IS STILL VALID.

My guess is that the refunds they issued me to compensate did not end up using my promo code. Or they simply didn't deactivate my code when doing so.

Gulp...just got my first code. The thing that makes me nervous is I had 3 trades accepted last Friday and I only received 1 code this morning. The language is pretty darn clear in the terms of service that this should work multiple times. Hopefully they're just running slow getting the codes out.

I was not giving up I am just pissed with amazon or whoever does the trade ins. I will complain everyday to different customer service and call in order to get that code. I can't see how the psp game us cracked. I went to gamestop the day that the games value went up to 20 and checked everything. I even swapped the game our because of a sticker.
