condition stuff seemingly pulled back by amazon, spoilered until I can reorg
Notice 4/14/11: New shenanigans abound! There is now a condition field for all trades - all trades are set to "Good" and may be determined to be worse than that ("Acceptable") or better ("Like New"). During the trade-in confirmation process you may choose whether to have an item in worse condition returned to you or just processed at the lower value. It does appear that this might mean that NORAM will start taking games/consoles without original packaging / manuals / etc which might be beneficial to some.

We'll see how this works out! To be added to the core FAQ after its newness wears off.

GENERAL FAQ (Updated 12/10/09)

Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

My cover art (PLATINUM HITS) differs from the pic on amazon, will my trade be accepted?
It all depends on the UPC so just turn your game around, type in the upc into the amazon search box. If the game comes up, then it's accepted regardless of cover art. Click on that result to submit your trade.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began in 2009 and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available for free. There is now also an option to provide your own shipping.

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box? (updated 3/9/11)
Not necessarily - people have sent in multiple boxes for the same trade-in submission successfully. It's even possible to send half at one time and the other half at the end of the valid shipping period. However, it's probably best to always ship everything at once.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

(This is also an option when submitting your trades)

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week (7 days) to send your games. There have been reports of submitting trades up to 15 - 20 days late, but that is definitely ymmv. Send on time for the best chance at success!

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

I do not have the manual, accessories, original box, original included game, etc for a console or accessory I want to trade in. Will they accept it? (updated 3/9/11)
The current wisdom is "probably not" - it's pretty YMMV but NorAm seems stricter than they should be on this. Your chances seem to be better for them accepting a console or accessory without the box / manual / etc if it's older generation or rare. You're more than welcome to give it a shot though if you're feeling lucky - just pack it well and include as much as you can!

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted? (updated 3/9/11)
This is YMMV, but probably not. The UPC is all powerful within the walls of NorAm.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities. Once you submit, you can no longer change quantities on that trade-in batch.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in (updated 1/11/11)?
Maximum of 2 copies within 3 months period

I locked in X copies of a game but I now only have Y available to send. Can I just send in Y without being penalized? (updated 3/9/11)
Yes, you can always just send in a portion of your trade-in order and they'll just credit you for whatever they receive. However, the quantities you submitted for will stay locked in that instance (I think) so if you, for example, submitted for 2 copies and only sent 1, you may not be able to trade any more copies of that game for 3 months (see previous question).

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 2 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck (updated 3/9/11)!
Really? Hrm. While that may be true, they're often better than other comparable places. Your options of what to do with your used games are greater now than they've ever been, so feel free to shop your trades around or just sell them off on glyde/gamestaq/ebay/whatever.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

Can I edit a submitted trade?
Nope - once upon a time you could modify trade in quantities of submitted trades, but that ability has been removed.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?
Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

Strategy guides? I can trade in game/strategy guides? Whaaaaa?
Go to the Textbook Buyback section (http://www.amazon.com/Textbooks-Trad...ode=2205237011). You can either search on the title of a strategy guide you have to see if they'll accept it, or search for guides. The two best search strings to start with are 'prima guides' and 'bradygames'. Might try 'doublejump' if you want to trade in some of those. (Thanks eugaet)

I locked in some hilariously overvalued trade for some weird rare game/accessory/etc that I can pick up for cheap cheap cheap. They didn't accept it. What should I do? (updated 3/9/11)
The truth is that NORAM can reject things for any reason they see fit. While some people have managed to get silly things like a $200 credit for some cheerleading game, it's sooooooo YMMV that often it's not worth the effort. EXPECT REJECTION ON THINGS THAT ARE CLEARLY MISVALUED. That said, as long as you're willing to risk it, go for it!

trade-in promo related faq spoilered for history. promos no longer offered by amazon
---- TRADE-IN PROMO RELATED FAQ ---

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPARATED BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
Previous promo coupons and their expiration dates (NO ACTIVE PROMOS CURRENTLY):

1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (coupon exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (coupon exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (coupon exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (coupon exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Hi I was planning on trading some games and wanted to ask a question. How strict are they with the conditions of the games? Some of the games I want to trade have some minor scratches...will they still be acceptable?
TIV on Mario and Luigi Partners in Time is $22 today, and I'm thinking about biting on it -- saves me the hassle of dealing with ebay.

Quick edit -- I was going to sell it on ebay but the prices vary wildly -- 10 bucks for a sealed copy up to 45 for a mint open copy. Anyone with any idea why the discrepancy?
That's a pretty lame trade in of the day, it was actually trading in for $24 either yesterday or the day before.

Seriously considering sending them :360: Black Ops. It's getting $39, and I've already played through the campaign and had some fun with MP. I doubt I'll do much more with the game, and I might as well lock it in now.

Really? Huh. The last time I checked it was at $15, though I haven't checked it in a little while. Thanks for the info -- definitely going the ebay route.

Locking in :360: AVP, L4D2, and Oblivion GOTY for $38.50 total. Hopefully that'll go toward BF:BC2 the next time it goes on sale, and some MSP to cover the Vietnam DLC.

I got Oblivion for $8 at target, $15 tiv, I got L4D2 from amazon for $11 and my $19.25tiv(locked in last week), AVP. No clue. How much did you get it for?

Is Noram a stickler on Late Postmarks. I think the UPS store isn't going to have a pickup in the blizzard we are having. I don't won't to lose the $10 difference between when I placed the submission and now. Do they usually send them back or give you the lower rate?

I've sent mine off as late as 3 or 4 days past the deadline with no issues. I'm about to try one that's a week late. I don't think they care all that much as long as you're in before the auto-cancel deadline, but I'm sure ymmv.

Just submitted a trade in for Foza 2 (6.25) and Forza 3(12.00)... Forza 3 Ult edition is 27.00 so for ten bucks more i can pick up the Ult edition... plus i can re pick up forza 2/marvel ult alliance at GS for cheap...

Is there some type of appeal process to Amazon if Noram rejects an item as wrong item? I bought an item a few weeks ago on Amazon and traded it in to Noram last week as the trade value was more than I paid and I never got around to opening it. This morning, I got an e-mail from them claiming it was the wrong item. I did the trade-in using the same page as the Amazon item as it even had "you purchased this item on XX date at the top". Am I totally screwed here?

this is probably their way of saying "we don't want to buy this from you because we'll lose money."

I'm afraid of it happening with my 3 copies of GOW3.

There isn't an official appeal process, per se -- start by contacting Amazon's customer service and let them know the situation.

Ha, I checked today to see what the trade in value was after the deal ended, and it's actually gone up by 50 cents. What the hell.

Huh? I was just saying I locked in those 3 games for a TIV total of $38.50. Yes, Oblivion GOTY was a Target clearance find, L4D2 was from Amazon's BF deal, and AVP I've had sitting for a while. I'm not turning a profit here but, eh, not bad.

i sent in like 5 transactions in one box in order to cut down on shipping
i only got credited for one of the transactions
its been like 3 weeks and no credit or games returned to me in the mail
i think im screwed
i sent in like 5 transactions in one box in order to cut down on shipping
You were trying to save money for Amazon/NorAm on the shipping costs? That's very generous of you.

Finally sent in my 3 MLBs today. Haven't had a rejection yet, so I'm not expecting to have any trouble with these.

I think you're right. I e-mailed and the response I got back was that there was a quantity violation. Considering I only sent in one item, I'm guessing this is code for we set the TIV a little too high (I think it was $8 more than I paid). The customer service rep then cut and paste a list of reasons why they could reject the trade and of course, there was nothing on the list about a quantity violation. I am going to call and get to the bottom of this. This is a straight up deceptive practice and now it's gonna be another week or two until I get the item back so I can actually do something to recoup my money.

Dude shipping is free anywayz...why don't u use the free ups shipping sticker amazon gives u? well never put more than 1 transacation in a box.

You guys ever think he meant "cut down on shipping" as in, not being wasteful with shipping materials? Anyway, that's a bummer. Why 5 separate transactions is what I wanna know...

I already posted the experience I just had with them trying that same thing. Just don't do it. It should really be in the OP if it isn't. Complain until Amazon gives you your credit then tell Amazon how Noram is either completely incompetent or a bunch of thieves. Worked for me (and then some) after 3 weeks of trying and waiting to get my money. The problem is there are dicks who will lie about it and try to get free money. You have no proof you sent your games in now so they'd have to take your word on it.

i sent in GOW3 and star ocean LHI along with a graphic novel and 2 digital painting books last week and got my full tiv applied to my amazon acct today. no problems with GOW3 trade in although i just noticed it went down 5.75 since i sent mine and star ocean LHI went up 3.50. i packaged it super well with those air bags i get in amazon packages so u guys should probably hold onto those so u can use them later.

I just got a $10GC for the canceled trade in, which I assume is that DS game that had the hundred dollar trade in. I never bought the game to trade in, only submitted the order for it.

Wow I just got this email as well. The odd thing is the other day I got a cancellation notice for a trade in, but they hadnt even canceled any of my trade ins to begin with. I had canceled one myself a couple days before they sent the canceled trade in email, but they never actually canceled anything.

Ok yeah same here. Nothing there. Now 2 weird emails from Amazon in the last week haha. I would be a douche and ask where my $10 is like I know people will, but they took care of me already and like I said there was no canceled trade in so I'll leave it alone.

A couple things that are commonly asked about that I thought I'd share my experiences just to confirm what others have said:

- Multiple trade-in orders in one box -
Definitely has the downside of no tracking and noram being able to claim they never received it, but if you absolutely have to I can confirm that they will process all of the orders in the box. I tried to organize the box and tape the trade-in scan sheets to the top of each order so that it was easy for them to get through. I had 6 total orders that I separated in to two boxes and it went off without a hitch.

- DLC codes -
I can confirm that in my situation for both BFBC2: UE and Borderlands GOTY I was not rejected due to DLC code sheets not being present. They would be total jackasses if they did, so I wasn't super surprised by that.

- Locking in X copies, only sending Y -
As most folks know, this works fine. My new experiment is if I locked in 3 copies, sent in two and had one rejected, what will they do if I send two more? My guess is they'll only accept one, but we'll see!

- Sending things after the sending deadline -
I'm also seeing how far this can be pushed. My last set was sent about 5 days after the deadline - I'll be sending something in a full 7 days late soon. I suspect they'll accept them all the way until the trade-in is auto-expired (30 days? not sure on the exact number). I also suspect you can create a new trade and use the shipping label from that to send an older order, but I would certainly _not_ recommend doing that. It's much better to do the trade-in id swap in the address bar of your browser.

That's all for now, carry on.

well good job getting anything from them, all i got was called fing stupid by the rep.

lol I knew people would try. I dont believe for a second they actually used either of those words but it would be awesome if they did. And their CS is so YMMV it's ridiculous. I could have like 10 reps in a row tell me wait...wait...wait or no no NO...and then the next will help me out in under 2 minutes. It's nuts.

i dont care if you believe me or not, he called me that. It was after a hour or so on the phone with him, kept changing the story to that i canceled it, to wrong item, to incomplete, then finally the error. I asked for some one above him, but he was " bussy" so he would call me back soon, the call back never happened. Well with no risk there is no reword. only cost me ~ 15 game stop credit for the game, so no big deal on my part.

Well after 4 or 5 good trades, I've finally had an issue with the trade-in company. They decided to reject my trade-in as "incorrect item" even though it's the right item.
Was it a ridiculously high TIV item? They tend to do that.
Nope, the trade-in value dropped ~$15 though. I am guessing they just decided they no longer wanted to honor the trade-in value which seems kind of ridiculous.
has anyone received word that their trade ins were damaged... like them destroying your discs on purpose so you dont get paid.
Id also like to know something similar with my "missing artwork" issue. I mean theyre not going to actually take my manual or code card or whatever and then ship my game back incomplete are they? That would be war lol. Im actually glad theyre sending it back now regardless since the Vietnam expansion is out now. I probably wont get it back until BFBC3 is out though with the way Norams been screwing me.

Edit: Actually I just checked and it should be back to me tomorrow already. That was quick I'll give them that.

I'd figured I would post my recent issues with the trade-ins. I've done over 30 with no issues, but there have been issues with everything I have sent recently. One was lost one in transit and the other two were delivered and never posted. I'm still waiting for the lost in transit results, but it took 3 e-mails and a phone call to resolve the other delivered but not posted games.

Got hosed today on an order I submitted. I'm on the phone now with Apu to see if he can help me out, but he's brushing me off to the marketing team, promising they'll get back to me within 48 hours. The last four times that happened, I never heard back from the marketing team. I've asked for Apu's sup, hopefully he speaks fluent English.

EDIT- Damn, Apu's sup is Sanjay...at least he agrees that it is not cool that NorAm claimed I had the wrong item when that same item was purchased through Amazon and shipped the same day I got it from them.

As for the $10 promo for canceling that trade-in, I ordered something last night and of course it was not applying. So I simply emailed them about that order and quoted the email from Amazon about getting the promo credit. They claim they will give me a $10 refund on the thing I ordered (once it ships so as not to interrupt free 1-day shipping I got on this item - special promo). If that all works out, I'm happy.

I did send off 6 separate packages to NorAm yesterday. So far so good on my "normal" trades. They've accepted everything I've sent the last 2 weeks.
so what game was it?
I sent in the kinect wall mount. Ultimately, Sanjay was unable to offer me a reason why it was cancelled. He was polite about it but I don't like that my $ are now going to be held for an additional month while I wait for NorAm to ship them back and for amazon to receive my shipment while they refund my purchase. Sanjay was kind enough to offer me $15 credit, which I declined but Sanjay insisted due to my loyalty with amazon; 201 orders in .
Dream Dance and Cheer :wii: is trading in at the very sensible value of 364.25 as of this posting. The one star review on Amazon is a nice touch too - that person was severely disappointed in what likely appeared to be a really promising purchase.
Darn I just tried to order something to see if I got the $10 credit (I wasn't going to submit the order) and it isn't showing in my account either.

This is my story as well. I cant remember who the hell it was but it was something like Haranth or Harinath I think. He was like the 10th person I talked to (literally) and he gave me all my credit for a game they "lost" + he also gave me full credit for a game they rejected and shipped back to me. He was awesome and quick about it. So hopefully you come across him or someone like him at some point. 2 other reps before him had taken pity on me (or just wanted me to go away more likely) and gave me partial credits. I told Harinth about that and he didnt seem to care at all he just said he'd credit me the full amount for both games and he was sorry for the problems with Noram.

Has anyone had issues shipping an item towards the end of the deadline? I logged into my account today and it says the deadline has passed even though their e-mail said today was the last day. I saw this mentioned in the OP, but just curious if anyone's ever had a problem.
