FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. :lol: And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

While on the topic of mailing supplies, I just got one of those packaging tape hand rollers and it seems like a POS in case anyone was thinking of getting one. I've been sending so many Amazon packages I figured it was worth the shot of upgrading my tape dispenser. I've been using these boxes at Target that I have been getting for $1.25-$1.75 each. There is a small one that can hold 4 games stacked easily, maybe 5, and that's the smaller box. Then there is a larger box which is the same height (4-5 games deep) that you can put two rows of games for 8-10 games. It's the best deal I've seen, but I always send in bulk (3 games minimum).

There's another trade-in site that gives amazon gift cards. You don't get the bonus promo but you may be able to salvage some money in case the TIV tanks on one of your items..

They got horrible pricing for ipods. But on games they aren't bad. You can email for a quote if an item doesn't show up. I haven't tried them out yet but i have noticed the following prices.

$16 Star Wars Clone Wars Lightsaber :wii:
$16 Devil May Cry 4 :ps3:
$15 Saints Row 2 :360:

I didn't see anyone asking, so I guess no one missed me, but there were 2000 TIV changes between Saturday-Monday, so obviously I haven't listed any of them...

Some of the top ones to note:
PS2 Call of Duty World At War Final Fronts went from $6 --> $17
XBOX Madden 09 went from $5 --> $15
PS3 Sacred 2 Fallen Angel went from $18 --> $27.50
PS3 Pure $7.50 --> $16.50

The top drops were original PS, so I'll only post the top drops from next gen or last gen...

360 Ninja Blade $13 --> $6.25
GC Phantasy Star Online EP 1 & 2 Plus $20.50 --> $14.50
Wii Fishing Master World Tour $11.50 --> $6.50
PS3 Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm $18 --> $13
PS3 Blazblue Calamity Trigger LE $35 --> $30
360 Brothers in Arms Hells Highway $8 --> $3

All in all it was a net drop with the updates, almost a 2 to 1 volume in drops to increases.

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories (PS2) seems to be a semi-decent flip, atm.

Amazon's TIV of it is currently $16.50 and it seems that GameStop recently lowered the price on it, to $19.99 new and $17.99 used. If you flip now, it's small loss (depending on used or new), but it might be a good idea for the next trade, if the TIV doesn't tank before then.

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories -> Amazon TIV: $16.50
GameStop New: $19.99; Used: $17.99

Not sure if this was posted or not; sorry if it was.

Dumb question, and I DO apologize if it's been asked/answered. I have 3 games that I'm about to send in. The total comes to $60.75. Let's say on Wednesday all 3 of those games drop in price a few dollars ... when they get my games, will I get the TIV that I sent in for?

The trade-in value of the games you send in, are locked in once you place your order (once Amazon verifies the order you place they provide you with a mailing label to print).

So yes, you will receive TIV once you've locked in your trade. You have 7 days from the day you lock in your trade to send the games in and to receive credit.

Wow, thanks for that info. I actually have one locked in and ready to send from last week but I bought it when it was $26.99 (though with the 25% off coupon), so it cost $17.54. I guess if I return/repurchase it won't save me all that much (it would be $16.19) but if I'm there anyway tomorrow I might as well ;).

converse - just curious, how do you get the info about how many thousands of price changes there are? I really don't know how you are doing this and it seems odd no one else has asked!

In other (non) news, I've been met with a staggering wall of silence from Amazon and NorAm. No more trade receipt confirmations, no codes (now owed 3 or possibly 4 if they finally process that trade from Saturday) and no response whatsover either from Amazon or NorAm concering that "processing" trade - which is still in that state now nearly 3 days later.

Meanwhile I've missed a few goodies in my Gold Box because I have to have a code before I can pull the trigger on any purchase there now. Though right now it is a load of crap: seriously, I have a pack of ball point pens in there :roll:.

Thanks :)
Will be sending them tomorrow anyway. These games are in amazing condition, so I'll be calling India and bitchin at them if these get rejected.

:rofl:

Well, no sooner do I type that then I do get a response from Amazon about my trade-in. It isn't much help, but here it is:

Hello,

The current status of Transaction ID #TR1-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX is "Received."

Your trade-in submissions are shipped via media mail and typically arrive at the merchant within 2 weeks of shipping. If your submission is accepted by the merchant, an Amazon Gift Card for the quoted amount will appear on your Amazon.com account within 2 business days of receipt.

Please be patient and your payment for these items should be issued soon. In the rare case where a submission is still in "Received" status after 30 days of shipping. If you've not received the payment by August 22, please write back to us.

Uh, so it has been more than 2 days since receipt. I'm not sure I understand the last part as that second sentence isn't complete. So yeah, I guess I have to wait until August 22nd and if it still says "Processing" they may do something about it.

Here are some decent 1:1 flips to help you reach minimum on an order (as long as you can find em complete). Also no coupon has been applied, and neither has tax.

FORMAT: (System) Game - Used/Edge/Edge+Coupon --> ATIV (Profit)

:ps2: Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel - 3.99/3.59/3.59 --> 4.25 (+0.66)
:ps2: Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories - 17.99/16.19/16.19 --> 16.50 (+0.31)
:ps2: PS2 World Series of Poker - 6.99/6.29/6.29 --> 6.00 (-0.29)
:xbox: Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue - 9.99/8.99/8.99 --> 8.50 (-0.49) (I dare you to send in a whole order of these to amazon)
:ps2: Disaster Report - 4.99/4.49/4.49 --> 4.00 (-0.49)
:ds: Neves - 8.99/8.09/8.09 --> 7.50 (-0.59)
:ps2: G1 Jockey 3 - 5.99/5.39/5.39 --> 4.50 (-0.89)
:ps2: IndyCar Series - 7.99/7.19/7.19 --> 6.25 (-0.94)
:ps2: Gradius V - 9.99/8.99/8.99 --> 8.00 (-0.99)

Trade-in of the day is Final Fantasy VII for $40. Does Amazon discern between the original and greatest hits version?
Trade-in of the day is Final Fantasy VII for $40. Does Amazon discern between the original and greatest hits version?
only if a specific version is given in the title name, or if there are two entries for the same game, which in this case its not, so you should be fine sending in either.

I sent in two packages simultaneously last monday. Yesterday, I got email confirmation that Amazon received the games and they're ok. No code yet. But the real kicker is that the second package has yet to be "received" by Noram. WTF? I sent them together in identical boxes. So, I'm worried since I couldn't get DC on either box.

I can't buy my goldbox items (heavy rain, mag, new SMB, r&c)

wow my micro center actually has these in a glass case a lot of them.. I am going to pick up every one. depending on the price. They are greatest hits, is that a problem?

Yay, they finally got my 7 :ps3: Dead Space. Now I just need my 50% coupon. I sent them back on the 17th/18th. That's how long I've been waiting...

Trade-in Summary:

I think your posts are awesome, just haven't said so yet. And, like Io, I'm curious how you get this info? In any case, thanks for the update!

Surprised to see the trade in value for FFVII is at $40, up to $60 with a couple fillers. Thought it would have dropped like a rock (or at least a little)

Should I trade mine in and just buy it from the PSN when I feel like playing it again? Might be a rhetorical question

Wish I had a source for FFVII. I need credit again now that I spent it all on a Mac mini and a Prime membership, not to mention the $30 coupons always being welcome. There is an independent game store that might have it that isn't too far away, but they may still be trying to sell it for an exorbitant price even if they do. I need to check, though, and I think I'll just go ahead and lock in the trade-in value now, tossing in some of those fillers that theb1rdm4n posted about. Thanks theb1rdm4n!

How long is it taking most people to get the promo code after Amazon receives their trade in credit?

They received my games and gave me my credit on Saturday, normally I get the promo code from them no more than 2 days later.

Most people = 2-3 days after order is accepted

Maximum amount of time (according to Amazon) = up to 10 days

Read recent messages! Lately it looks like closer to 10 days then to 2, for getting your coupon. i've got orders from the 5th and 6th and no coupon for either yet.

Same here
My package was accepted on the 7th, and still no coupon yet. :drool:

Wow, I might consider trading my ff7 now. I'm still not sure cause i'm not sure if I can ever let this game go :p. I'll probably end up trading it since I got it on PSN anyway

Thanks, I import that data from the TIV's into Excel and then copy the TIV's on a daily basis to do a comparison. It only takes me about 5 minutes to do it, and I like to see what they are doing in terms of drops and increases, as well as new titles added.

Today there were no changes other than the DOTD, but there were several adds. Note, that some of these "adds" might actually be name changes that didn't show up in the system previously under that name so they look new when the search is done...

Now these types of posts make me feel really stupid. Converse = smart

For Nintendo DS games if I send the game + manual but no box ok? I know it says YMMV, but based on anyone's experience here are the odds good they will be accepted?

I'm available for consultant work :D There is a lot you can do with these programs if you have a need or desire to learn how to do them. It helps that I do a lot of analytics in my job, so I can carry over my experience into my personal ventures.
converse, I think the question is: Where are you importing the data from exactly?
Does anyone read the OP anymore? :D There's a handy link there that if you guys didn't know it already could be saving TONS of time.

woohoo! i hit the jackpot. I have around 9 FFVII's to unload on this! However not all of them are complete, i just need them to accept 2. Just check out my list to see it, I didn't know what to do with them after it came on PSN, lol.

Also, quick question, do I just submit 1 FFVII, then later change the quantity afterwards? I haven't use the trade-in for awhile, and i forget. Thanks!

Would this be a good deal?

23.25 - Skate 2
13.00 - Tomb Raider Underworld
12.00 - Oblivion game of the year
9.00 - Silent Hill
3.00 - Condemned 2

For 90 dollars?

It's suggested but it's your call (it works, so if you want to be a good CAG, you'll do it).

You could probably get $80-$90 on ebay for the black final fantasy 7, couldn't you?

I still have my copy collecting dust.

Seems like a decent deal to me. Skate 2 is the only newish game of the bunch and you're averaging $18 a game so I'd go for it.

I sent 3 packages off this past Thursday and 2 packages on Friday from Philadelphia PA. All 5 of them were received and accepted today, around a 5 day turn around. Hopefully I wont have any problems with receiving the codes. I was able to find 10 Endless Oceans to flip last week.

$16 Devil May Cry 4 :ps3:
$15 Saints Row 2 :360:
Thanks for the link...found a way to get rid of my 2nd copy of 50 cent BOS...got it for 7.50 and get 17 credit...not great, but not bad.

FINALLY received my 50% off code. To my surprise the exp date is Dec 31st. NOT Aug 31st. I called in twice to customer service to make sure it wasn't a mistake. Gotta love Amazon! Make an offer if interested

Well my most recent trade in was excepted except my Silent Hill Experience was rejected... putting me under the $60 total trade in.

The reason it was rejected was because of "missing package item". I can only assume they meant a missing manual. But I don't recall UMD movies having manuals, as the only thing it came with was a UMD ad card. Granted, I bought it used at Gamestop. But a quick search online shows me nothing about whether or not it actually has a manual as many people are selling their "new" copies without a manual for some reason.

Could someone enlighten me as to whether or not it really comes with a manual? Because if not, I definitely want to call Amazon and complain.

The UPS option just showed up today. I don't have any new trades to submit, so maybe some of these FF7 traders can answer. I'm curious as to how much it costs to ship UPS?
