FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

Amazon $10 credit for HALO ODST

I am trying to buy two copies of HALO ODST, will I get two $10 Preorder promotion code? has anyone bought multiples of a game that has the same promotion and received a code for EACH one you bought?

damn i actually have a unopened copy of xenosaga iii (got it as a gift but this was about a month after i got an xbox and my ps2 hasn't been turned on since)...but if i wanted to trade this in i'd have to find another $40 of games to trade in

edit: actually a vrand new copy might be worth more then $23 any way from the prices i see on ebay

Yeah, do NOT trade a new sealed Xeno III in to Amazon. I wouldn't even trade a mint used one.

Xenosaga III isn't too prevalent in my area, but there is a copy listed at on GS near me so I'll see if I can find it (hoping it's complete) along with some filler.

My goldbox changed yesterday around 9 pm and has the same stuff now, again none of it video games even though I just bought Wii Sports Resort. :(

I preordered NSMB Wii Thursday, Nostalgia for DS late Thursday night, and then hit the jackpot in Friday's Gold Box quick picks (which updated early in the morning for me this time - it keeps changing): Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, and Katamari Forever! (And for good measure bought the Halo Wars LE Gold Box selection - didn't use a coupon there though). Awesome - I knew I would feel bad buying the new Katamari game for $50 full price at Gamestop but I would have since me and the kids would want to play it ASAP. Now using a $30 coupon + ECA + gold box I won't even feel bad if it drops to $20 4 months later.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the animal traps, grill cleaning kits, and Bill O'Rielly books that I will invariably get Saturday . Oh well, that's actually OK as I'm out of codes right now. I had 4 shipments received Thursday so hopefully I'll get those codes tonight, but if it is like last week I won't get them till next Tuesday or so. I wouldn't want anything awesome like Demon's Souls Deluxe edition to show up when I'm out of codes!
It's 19.99 at GS and seems readily available in my area. Might have to bite on this one.

Is there a trick to checking in-store stock online? I searched for it on gamestop.com but can only find episodes 1 & 2. Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Any idea why it doesn't show up on the gamestop.com search? Did you just google it to find the link?

2 of them were in HWV cases but the art and manual were included...thought that was kinda picky

When stuff is backordered on GS.com, it won't show up on a search by default. You can however make it show up by clicking the button at the bottom of the search page that will show even backordered items.
Thanks! Any idea why it doesn't show up on the gamestop.com search? Did you just google it to find the link?
there should be a button under your search results that says "show" backordered items, click that

yeah i was actually wondering why you guys weren't seeing it cause it was coming up in my searches just fine. lol, i have had that option checked for a while now so i forgot all about it.
2 of them were in HWV cases but the art and manual were included...thought that was kinda picky
Same problem here, they reject both of mine that had HWV artwork. I even replaced the black cases with green ones to match, but they still rejected 'em. At least I had enough padding to still get the coupon.
good to know. i have been using google game + gamestop.
Glad I'm not the only one who missed the "Show" button. :)

Thanks Shady3011, y2jasper, & theb1rdm4n for the clarification!
For anyone that is being told that you can't add DC and/or insurance to the package with a pre-paid mailing label, the post office employee is completely wrong.

All they need to do is scan the barcode on the shipping label and they'll see that DC and/or insurance can be added at your cost.
Yea well i guess the ppl at my post office are jerks. I asked him to even scan and he said "I can't." lame well anyway i hope my $67 worth of games get through.

man, xenosaga seems like a nice flip, too bad the closest one is 26 miles from me.
I'm staying at my friends house for the weekend, and there are two 2 and 4 miles away from my house. And I really could've used that $23 as I'm only $20 from $60. Chances it would be complete anyways...unlikely.

Got more codes this morning ;) (for games received Thurs AM). Now I'm all caught up with stuff I sent before Aug 10th. Just a few things from then through today left to go. So now I can get some more goodies in my quick picks. It is still the same as yesterday right now.

woohoo, scribblenauts in my goldbox. This will be the first DS game I've bought in like 6 months. Luckily it was on the account that I got a refund for the TE stick price drop.

Also the first future game release I've gotten. I'll order Prof Layton if it shows up in my other accounts.
how do u get the stuff you want in your goldbox seriously i tried so hard even tried the goldbox trick on this forum
I swear its mostly luck.

I have all games in my recommendations on all of my amazon accounts, yet I still get barbeque shit and textbooks from a few purchases from a long time go. The trick doesn't work so well, I made a brand new account for an amazon trade in, 50%, and then I did the goldbox trick, and the only games i got were wii sports resort, another ds game, and scribblenauts. And lots of dvd/blurays of upcoming stuff.

Although io has gotten some good stuff I believe.
how do u get the stuff you want in your goldbox seriously i tried so hard even tried the goldbox trick on this forum
It really is random. I had a great gold box yesterday after ordering Wii Sports Resort, and then I ordered Madden 2010 yesterday. All of my recommendations and browsing history are games. Today my gold box has:

Xbox 360 Over Ear Headset
The Lost Symbol-book

I rated a bunch of music games yesterday & got Guitar Hero 5 to pop up in my recommendations. I got my other $30 coupon today, so I'm going to see if GH5 shows up in my quick picks whenever they update today. If it doesn't, I'm going to order it anyway because I don't want to risk that extra $10 disappearing again.

I received all 4 of the coupons I was expecting. Each took 2 days after the gift cards were deposited.

Thanks for sharing about the $10 coupon coming back. When they took that coupon off, i decided not to order it. The $10 for a future purchase just put it over the edge for me and made me decide to buy again. It ended up being $23.99 after ECA and $30 coupon.

Also, thanks to the person who posted this link http://www.amazon.com/gp/rate-it the other day.
It gave me some good luck and I got exactly what I wanted which was New Super Mario Bros Wii. I used that link yesterday and 5 starred like 30 popular wii games (everthing except New Super Mario Bros. because that's what I really wanted most.) I also checked off the 15 or so games that I own. Then today NSMB Wii popped up in my quick picks and I ordered right away. It's the only game related quick pick I have so I think it's pretty lucky that it's exactly what I wanted. It ended up costing $9.94 after Goldbox, ECA, and $30. Mario games seem to take longer to drop in price and I'm dying to play this game. This is the most excited I've ever been for a wii title.:bouncy:

Anyone else having problems applying their code? I got mine weeks ago but now when I try to use it it won't let. Discussing it with Amazon CS now, just wanted to know if I was alone or not :p

I posted the link, but somebody else had suggested doing that, I simply supplied the link.

After doing some rating yesterday via that link, I got Professor Layton and Boom Blox Bash Party in my quick picks today. Went ahead and bit on Boom Blox because I traded the original in to Amazon last week and I've been wanting the new one. Def. want Layton though... hopefully I'll get it in there again soon.

2nd trade got accepted and coupon delivered 4 days later, just in time to see rock band 2 in the amazon best deals for $90 -30(coupon) -10(eca)=$50 w/ free shipping. Thanks op and CAG!

Yes I mentioned this and mkernan posted the link. For anyone who needs games in their quick picks, again, this seems to work. Got all games in my quick picks again for the 3rd straight day after doing this, even though I've only ever bought 1 game on amazon nearly a year ago. Go there, rate games similar to what you want to show up.
Can anyone help me with the question on Page 47 of this topic about the $10 amazon credit
Bump for your question. I have no clue. His question:

Amazon $10 credit for HALO ODST

I am trying to buy two copies of HALO ODST, will I get two $10 Preorder promotion code? has anyone bought multiples of a game that has the same promotion and received a code for EACH one you bought?

a. i dont see why not.

b. have you tried calling amazon? i know people have been saying they aren't the most knowledgeable about promos going on, but it shouldn't hurt to try.

c. if you buy both and only get one code you could always make a stink to amazon and might even end up with something extra for your troubles.

My suggestion is to call them and if they don't know, then id just buy em both anyways, and you could always do option c if it came down to it. Good Luck!

I've used both of mine now, one on Batman: Arkham Asylum CE & one on Guitar Hero 5. No problems with either.

Yeah, I got more good stuff in my Gold Box quick picks today. I just preordered Zelda Spirit Tracks for free after ECA + gold box + $30 code. Nice.

I also have some game called Halo Reach in there, a Resident Evil game for Wii, and a few other things but Zelda (and Guitar Hero 5 with the reinstated $10 promo code offer!) are it for today I think.

The only BlazBlues that Amazon has for trade-in say "BlazBlue Limited Edition", so I would assume that yes, you have to have the LE stuff included. That's just my guess though and as I understand it, it would say only "BlazBlue" for the standard edition.

Yeah, I was wondering why there was no standard edition option to choose to trade-in. I guess I'll send them an e-mail to finally clear this all up.

Thanks for the link. I rated some games and ended up with PS3 GoW3, PS3 The Last Guardian and Wii FFCC:The Crystal Bearers in my Gold Box. I bought/pre-ordered The Last Guardian and used my ECA discount:)
Code expires on 08/31/09.
I couldn't find my code anywhere so when I called to ask about it I was told that they had already expired, and that I they could manually price something but only if I bought said item right away.

Did I just get hosed? Is there anyway to look up the code?

I've been trying to sell my 50% off code, but i'd still be willing to trade it for 2 $30 codes. I got 2 of them, but will probably keep one.

I found 2 old ps2 games in my closet, I still need $15 more for $60, any ideas? Hoping for a good trade in of the day tonight.

Uglyteradon, do you mean you lost the email? Mine got placed in spam on one of my emails if that helps at all

bah, TOTD RB2 for $22, i just need one good flip.

Tiger Woods 2010 Wii is the DOTD for $29.99, heck of a deal for trade in of $24 if you have a $30 off coupon basically trade $30 in game-only credit for $24 in all-Amazon credit. I would have been better to wait for this than I was for Fitness Ultimatum (Wii) that I sold out for $17.25. Live and learn.

interesting... I wonder if I use my credit to buy one I should do the trade in on another account right? 27-->24 not so bad considering it will get me over the $60 limit.

hmm, if I buy 2 with my credit $54 after ECA, I can trade those in for $48 + $30. And I can keep a few games I was on the fence about trading in. Might jump on this. Just need some advice first.

Well, the trade-in deal of the day is Rock Band 2 for PS3 for $23.

I do have a copy sitting around that I got at Target for $15. I did manage to get out to a GS today and get a few things to pair with Gears of War 2. So I have submission ready to try out the UPS option. I ended up preordering Professor Layton but I really don't want to get that at GS because costs $35 there (inflated $5 by the infamous Gamestop DS tax :bomb:). I'd much rather buy it at Amazon even without using a $30 code because it would be $27 vs the $35 at GS (even even less if it shows up in my Gold Box picks). The problem with that GS coupon is that the three games come out in just a week or two. I suppose you could always wait till afterwards to cancel or switch as well (and I have done this in the past).

I'm not sure if I want to bother with Rock Band 2, though, as it would mean getting more games from GS (and thus having to make and then cancel/switch another preorder). I locked it in with a couple of the trades I found at GS just in case we get a better coupon next Friday - but who knows about that.

While nothing can top my Gold Box picks from yesterday (SMG 2, Metroid Other M, Katamari Forever, and several other games) today's were interesting: Zelda Spirit Tracks (I nabbed this for free after ECA + $30 code), Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles for Wii, Arc Rise Fantasia for Wii (I'm curious but will probably pass till I hear more about it), and Halo Reach (probably because I bought Halo Wars yesterday). My other three picks are sort of odd though: various collections of Full Metal Alchemist DVDs (season 1 part 1, season 1 part 2, and season 2 part 2!). I guess they are using my like of JRPGs to show me Anime - I've never bought a single piece of Anime from Amazon though.

My wife's picks were mostly crap again, but she did have ONE gaming item: Madden 08 for 360. Yeah, that's right, 2008.
Live and learn.
i was thinking about jumping on this too when i saw it (had it in my cart and everything)...but it would only be profitable if i make a trade in over $60 so i can get the $30 code, and i already have 3...basically i'd gain more value, but it would be in coupons and i'd have less amazon credit. i decided to pass this one.

hoping another one comes up like virtua tennis 2 weeks ago (was $18 after DotD + ECA, and trade in was 17.50)
interesting...

If you are using your Amazon credit for only gaming then it probably works out just fine. The only issue might be the timing of sending the trade and receiving the game from Amazon in time.

In theory, if you bought 3 x $27.99 (w/ECA) then you are $83.97 in, and you trade said 3 x $24 for $72 + $30 credit = $102. That's a 1.21 ratio, 21% in video gaming profit if you can make the deal work...
