FAQ (Updated 12/01/09)
Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began earlier this year and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box?
Yes.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week to send your games.

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPERATING BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions. IT DOES STACK WITH THE ECA DISCOUNT, HOWEVER.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted?
This is YMMV. Just try it, but make sure to have more than enough for the minimum requirement to qualify for the deal, if available.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in?
Maximum of 3 copies within 3 months period (This limit MAY also include prior "Cancelled Submissions - YMMV")

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 3 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck!
While that may be true, you will most likely save more money because of the trade-in deal coupon code.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

So if I can edit a submitted trade, can I add other games that weren’t originally part of the submission?
No. Only quantities can be changed. Changing quantity to 0 means you're removing the game completely from the submission; which you can't add later.

If I change the quantity of a certain game I have already submitted for a trade, will I keep the same TIV?
No, It will change to current TIV for all games in that same submission.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (Exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (Exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?

Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

I just traded in some games for the first time. Traded X-Men origins Wolverine, Red Faction Guerilla, Ghostbusters, CoD World at War, Wolfenstein, Madden 10, and Dirt 2 for a total of $185.25. So I think I am gonna get a wii for a total of like $0.34

I sent off a package today. This was the one I was waiting for stuff from gamefly to arrive. It's going out 3 days late. Hopefully I don't have any problems with that. I'll report what happens. It's 3 copies of Mario Super Sluggers and should net me $60 plus a $30 console coupon. I paid $47.67 shipped for them, so a decent profit even without the console coupon presuming it all goes through. I have no idea what I'd use the console coupon for. Most likely I'll want to trade it.

Is it normal for them to send the promo after that initial trade in amount? I got credit for what I sent in but I have still not received the $30.

you're screwed.. or you may want to read the OP:
-Qualifying customers will be emailed their coupon code within 10 business days after their qualifying trade-in has been accepted.

Ah crap. Thanks.
Nice. Now to try and get $11.50 for a sixaxis with a bum left trigger.

First trade took a total of two days

Tuesday - Shipped mid day from Princeton, NJ
Wednesday - Delivered
Thursday - Credit deposited early morning.

Helluva turnaround!
Yeah, but only because you are close. I just had one accepted today (the 9th). I mailed it via UPS on the 1st. This was the console coupon trade I made and submitted right when the promo went live - so there was never a remote chance of me getting one in time for that Elite deal or anything like that .

Once I get it I'll hold in to it for some sort of DSi bundle deal hopefully... (like the one I just missed).

They take controllers and stuff, now, eh? Will have to look in to that.

I got my $30, couldn't use it on my existing 360 MW2 order. I emailed amazon and got another $30 off my order. And the code is still active. I may become a hypocrite and get a PSPgo if I can get it low enough. I only have to pay 111 on my xbox thanks to trade in credit and $60 in amazon credits. I love amazon!

BTW does anyone know if the packaging is needed for accessories? I have a wiimote and 360 wireless headset that I am considering shipping off

i highly doubt it...i mean i don't think anyone keeps accessory packaging (since most of it has to be destroyed to open it) so if amazon/norAm are smart they wouldn't require it.

i also just sent out my second Gazelle trade in (the 9th), let's see if this one beats the turnaround time of my first one (15 days)

Did the 15 day turnaround include you waiting for them to ship you boxes or did you just ship out in your own containers right away?

I am doing my first Gazelle now and was hoping it would be closer to ~7 days.

no that was from the day i mailed it out. it took about 4 days to arrive, about 6-7 days for them to check the games (even though there were only 4), n another 4 or so to get the credit. although in there defense, they sent emails at every step, and also they had the chat feature on there site which was helpful (getting instant feedback is great)

Thanks for the heads up on what to expect. Still a good deal on Gazelle with the Amazon/promo code bonuses.

They received my games today, was hoping for Amazon GC before the motherlode of games that comes out next week: Fallout GOTY, Brutal Legend & Uncharted 2. Great day for gamers: 10/13 :)

I have to ask:

Has anyone tried trading in the "Lost and the Damned: GTAIV" downloadable content card?

Like the one below from GameStop:

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=73068

Amazon is giving $18 TIV. This is a only $2.00 loss flip, and there are -two- near me. On top of that, you don't need to worry about it being used.

I'm considering grabbing them if I can't find anything else before this Trade-in promo ends.

Sent in 3x Dissidia Final Fantasy on Tuesday 10/6 via UPS and had gift card deposited today. This was by far the fastest of the 3 I have sent in.

I was gonna send out 4 games, one was halo 3 odst-as I was packing them I noticed the shipping label said 1 lb on it, which seemed low. I weighed them and Halo 3 made them heavier them 1 lb-like 1.5 lbs total. I think however they determine weight isn't accounting for halo's 2nd disk/packaging. Anyone know if this will be a problem when shipping with UPS. I was gonna contact them, but cant find a way to-when I go to the help button, trade ins dont show up.

You should be fine. I had no problems sending out packages that weighed around 1.5 lbs.

Does anyone still get the UPS "Tracking" button in their trade-in page? I used to get them during the $30 promo, but after sending out a couple packages the past week or so I only get the Edit and Cancel buttons.

hey guys I have a question. If I cancel an order which obviously has not shipped yet but I used my trade-in credit and ECA code on it, will everything be deposited back into my account? I would assume the answer would be yes but I just want to make sure.

I sent two packages last week. One gave me the Tracking button and the other didn't. They were sent on back to back days.

I usually copy the shipping label and just the UPS site to track them.

You always get the credit back, the eca code maybe. It depends which one and even then some people have reported their L or j codes have not come back or been valid(the newest batch being the "66" codes that do not work anymore). Whenever we had working codes, yes you'd always get your codes back in your cart and they'd be fine(which is also how promo codes from trading in etc work). They usually last longer than the expiration date if in your cart, but as people with the 50% off promo from early summer found out, it DID last longer, but once october hit they were expiring if people canceled the order to re-use on something else.

thanks for the reply, I did already go ahead and do it. I got the credit back for everything. I ended up cancelling the Prestige Edition of MW2 because it looks like it's going to end up being another Halo Legendary Edition despite what may have been said. So I ended up getting Brutal Legend and MW2 regular edition for "free."

Edit: The ECA code was available after cancellation.

I've never had this so-called "tracking" button at any time ;).

Interestingly enough I had some games accepted today that I sent via USPS. Since mail isn't delivered today (holiday) that means they must have actually gotten there Saturday. In that case, USPS wins again because it only took 5 days vs the 8-9 for UPS.

I shipped my games a few weeks ago via UPS. It only took 3 days for my games to be received and accepted. So i had no problem with the UPS shipping. Its probably based on where you live and where you drop it off at. I haven't got my coupon for $30 off a console yet. When should I expect that?
What is this gazelle everyone keeps talking about?

Thanks
Pretty fair TIV place ... check my sig.

There are also promo codes for 5% bonus TIV (TWEET)
and $5 bonus TIV (TWEET09) ... you also get a 5% bonus if you select payment in the form of an emailed Amazon GC.

Well that's my point. Unless you live close to them UPS sucks. When they go "ground" they mean "ground" and it never goes any faster than the estimate. USPS media mail, on the other hand, while it can be slow, they usually send it faster if possible and thus usually it goes almost as fast as first-class (ie, "air") mail.

I'm still waiting on a console coupon too. So my guess is that they are back to their old habits of generating them on certain days. We'll all get them at the same time early tomorrow AM or the next day most likely (they seem not to generate them over holidays).

So my games were picked up from my office in Manhattan after 5 pm and two days later I already have the gift cards in my account!!! Woohoo! Amazon comes through again! Now just need to play the waiting game for my 30 console credit.

Im thinking of jumping on this offer at the last minute and getting an additional $30 knocked off my Modern Warfare XBOX360 come November.
So my games were picked up from my office in Manhattan after 5 pm and two days later I already have the gift cards in my account!!! Woohoo! Amazon comes through again! Now just need to play the waiting game for my 30 console credit.
Can you guys please let us know how long it takes to get your additional $30 after they accept your trade in?

Are you guys getting instant credit thrown into your account (like the Video Game Credits from pre order). Or are they giving out promotional codes to enter at checkout?

EDIT:
Amazon credits you for trade-ins in the form of a gift certificate - you can apply a GC balance to any existing order in the order status page.
Nice!. So will i get 1 huge Gift Card code (trade in amount + $30), or will it be 2 separate Gift Codes? The fact that you can apply the GC to an existing order is HUGE!.

Another question, long shot someone might know: But once you get your gift card code, can you use that GC to any order on any other amazon account? Or is it limited to the original account that submitted the trade in?
3 more days till this promo is over. Hope the next one starts right after
woohoo! i concur.

what bothers me is that they are taking so long with the console credit codes that we never got the chance to see if they would stack. (even though we don't think they would)
