Official CAG Destiny Thread - Rise of Iron

Yea, way too soon for Iron Banner again.  They really do need another event.  They teased us with the Queens Wrath stuff when HoW started but I guess they never meant to bring that event fully back.  The weekly bounties are really lame and repetitive.  My vault is full of weapons and I have about 15 out of 20 spots on all 3 characters full at my postmaster including an old Jolders Hammer that I never broke out to reroll.  I don't need more crucible weapons, iron banner armor, or etheric light, but for some reason I am going to play this...maybe....

During my run tonight I randomly started thinking about Destiny and how I really have no reason to play it at all until The Taken King in September and that I have maxed/full everything including vault space, postmaster space and character space haha.

... and then I came here and read about Iron Banner and thought "Hmm well maybe...."

Damn you Destiny.

So do you guys all keep all legendaries?  I was having serious vault space issues (mainly due to me keeping multiples of PvE guns) and collecting all the raid and Iron Banner ones.  Minus a few awesome faction/crucible/vanguard weapons, I just started crushing things to have room.  I dunno what it is but I hate seeing the notification of shit in the postmaster.  I know I know...

With armor, I really didn't have a problem until I started caring more about perks and stat rolls and was keeping everything.  I changed my tune on keeping everything after this past Trials of Osiris weekend and getting stuff with good perks and rolls.

I had kept almost no legendaries besides the Raid-specific primaries until they introduced the ability to re-roll. Now I find myself keeping at least one of most weapons I come across in case that one turns out to be some awesome PvP beast when re-rolled with certain perks. I mean, otherwise I wouldn't have kept my Ill Will or Fulcrum. And I was super-glad I kept my multiple Efrideet's Spears when I had to deal with Skolas with Arc and Void burn.

But it has come to the point of crippling me - I really can't do anything out of fear of deleting the one great weapon (or one that will be great once they buff/debuff other things).

I do instantly delete any faction armor though (since that can be re-purchased if necessary). And I recently went through and made some hard choices on my Queen's Guard, VoG, and Crota gear to get rid of some duplicates (that had different stat rolls) there. I had been trying to keep only Int/Disc stuff but now that I can usually have those maxed with points left over, I need to start keeping some strength gear as well - so I'm kind of back to square one there.

I was really going to take this week off for the most part, but IB will probably tempt me with the new armor pieces - dammit! But then that means I'll have to get rid of more stuff as I'm pretty much maxed out on armor now (and that is only with having half the Trials gear). And I'm sure Variks will have boots or helms with better stats this week too.

I enjoyed playing ESO last night and trying to forget about this game. There is SO much to do in ESO that it sort of puts Destiny to shame. Freaking Iron Banner will pull me back in though :bomb:...

I think I have just decided that I will only keep one of all the non exotic weapons in the game, even the good raid weapons.  There is just not enough room and as nice as it is to have a VoC or Fang on every character, you can transfer weapons with 2 clicks in the chrome extension.  Maybe someday they will figure out an easy way to expand the vault space, but blaming it on the 360 and PS3 is a pretty lame excuse at this point.

I think the problem is they let you go between console gens without a transfer or anything. This is the only way to keep compatibility. What would be nice is to get more storage by locking your character to current Gen.

So will the shaders and emblems from the last Iron Banner work for this one or do you have to rebuy them? Also does the Nightfall bonus do anything for your Iron Banner points?

Shaders, Class Items and Emblems all work. You won't have to rebuy them. Nightfall does indeed give you a bonus when you turn in your bounties.

Man the nightfall is a piece of cake.  Only really have to watch out and not get caught in crossfire between the Acolytes since they fire void.  Just Gjally the shit out of Phogoth and boom done.

Got Truth and wait for it....
No fucking Land Beyond... AGAIN!
I just want the Bones of Eos or Eternal Warrior dammit!

On the bright side, I got a Thermisto shader today! :D

EDIT:  So I have my Hunter with perfect gear setup when I Gunsling and near perfect when Bladedancing.  No strength at all, 100% Intellect and Discipline, More ammo perks for Hand Cannon, Sniper, Heavy Weapon.  Also have fast reload with Hand Cannon and I can run my Symbiote helm for 4 Golden Gun Shots :)

Now I need to get better stat roll gear for my Warlock.  My Titan is also damn near perfect for PvP.

All the faction armor you earn has different rolls than the ones that you can buy; they are randomized each time you earn one. I would definitely not blindly delete them because you could be missing out on an amazing roll and will not be able to get the same from the vendor directly. Same goes with the guns too.

Yeah, I ignore that since there is no way I have any room for that stuff. How can you also collect the faction armor on top of all the other stuff? It just isn't possible.

I haven't had an issue with armor at all. I don't keep doubles of anything unless it is a pure INT or pure DIS roll. Split rolls it just depends on how your character is set up spec wise. Even with all the IB, Kell, Exotics, VoG, Crota, Watchers, and Trials gear, I still have over half my vault space left. I mean I am having an issue with Helmets on all three and arms on my Hunter but otherwise it is a non-issue. I value the armor for the exact reasons Broly said, the different stat rolls can be much better than the ones you can buy. Perks to me are more important than roll if you don't have the exact perks to spec your guy right. Like I have arms on everyone with fast scout and fast hand cannon reloads and of course chests with Special Weapon (and specifically Sniper) and HC ammo. Boots with heavy of course. After getting those perks with right stat rolls you can afford to be picky for a specific type of one. :)

Now I just need to spec my Warlock to my liking.

When is the old CAG crew up for some PoE? My group is becoming unreliable now so I'd like to go back to the old times circa Oct/Nov of last year and run it with you guys. The Variks helms are pretty good this week (not that I have room for any more!) so I'd like to run the 32 for sure, and maybe the 34.

Then I have to decide if I want to bother with IB at all this time - that would mean 6 more new pieces of armor I don't have room for... Even if I do, I think I'll wait a few days for the increased exp boost and not even bother with it on the first few days. I had it all wrapped up (level 5 on all 3 chars) by Saturday last time so I could probably spend a few less hours if I start Weds/Thurs and run it through Monday.

Oh yeah, did the Nightfall 3x really fast last night. This one is even easier and faster than last week's. I got crap x 3 of course (Claws of Akamhara = exotic shard, a legendary pulse rifle = mote of light, and 11 strange coins). At least this time all 3 of us got crap - I didn't see an etheric light drop this time (unlike the 3 last week that other people got when I ran it). Not that I really need them. I have 14 in my Vault and will probably get 9 more this week just from PoE and IB. Otherwise all I'm looking for are the two last exotics (the new Hunter boots and the new Titan helm).

I got etheric light this week for my reward for my only character from the Nightfall, first time I got that since the first week.

I need to farm some treasure keys, I used my last on 28 and got 3 strange coins  :wall:

I also got strange coins from my first nightfall. I did get the new titan arms on my other run though, I think they'd be fun for the first section of CE.

What time/time zone? I've attempted it twice since launch and no luck yet.
EST, I'm usually on around 9:30 or 10 PM. In talking to io and Drunkz last night, it sounds straight fwd until the Skolas round where there is some trickery with switching who holds some poison and stuff like that. But, having done VoG and CE enough, it shouldn't be too tough with a couple of decent Destiny players.

I'm going to be playing every night this week (have the week off of work) and I think my buddy Simosaurus might want to try it this weekend. I'm up for doing it a couple times this week now that all 3 of my characters are at 34.

Was  able to do a hard Crota run and Level 32 and 34 PoE this morning before XBL crashed on me. Was a total waste of time didnt get anything I didnt already have. Got almost to level 2 in Iron Banner but doubt if I will do it all the way this time because of time restraints this week.

So I think I'm becoming a PvP addict now... Said I was going to go to bed before reset and ended up going to bed like 2.5 hours later... :wall:

Got all my IB bounties done though.  Well except the stupid melee one, which sucks being a hunter.  I may just forget that one this time around.  Unless anyone has suggestions.  I guess I could throwing knife?

Sucks that I never pick up the 10 kills without dying bounty for the Iron Banner I acually had two 10 kill+ streaks today. Honestly I can't think of any other time I had more than 4-5 kills in a row in any multiplayer game.

I used to skip picking that one up but I got it yesterday and ended up getting it on both characters I ran in IB. The one time I was aware I was close and played it safe and got it done. The second time I wasn't even aware of it and it popped. Note that assists count for that bounty, so you don't actually have to get a 10 kill streak.

ChubbyNinja - you were asking about what's in the 35 PoE last night (and specifically about weapons/burns). I just remembered another round that might give you trouble. Round 3 is Cabal with Arc burn. That doesn't sound too bad until you realize that the psions' ground attack is arc and it can slice through Titan bubbles. So have some arc weapons with you and be aware of that.

Here are the rounds (grabbed this from some other site):

1.Hive. It has exposure (shields increased, but don't replenish) and brawler (melee increased).

2.Vex with destroy mines. It has grounded (take more damage in the air) and airborne (deal more damage in the air).

3.Cabal with diffuse (sic) mines. It has Arc Burn and catapult (grenade energy increased).

4.Fallen with kill targets as the objective. It has Specialist (special weapon damage increase) and Juggler.

5.Fallen with a servitor boss. (recharge for all abilities decreased) and Small Arms (primary weapon damage increase.)

6.Skolas

So, round 1 is no problem. 2 is not bad - just don't jump. You are shooting the mines here so it isn't too hard. 3 is a kind of a pain with the arc burn/psions and having to defuse the mines. 4 can be a slight pain as well - if I remember it correctly the target always spawns to the right of the entrance, so just hang out near there and nuke him as soon as he comes out. 5, as I mentioned last night, is simply a rocket sponge so you just have to be patient, move from one side of the arena to the other, and use a few synths to take it down. Snipers (like Black Hammer) are good here too with the specialist modifier. Skolas, of course, is Skolas. We talked about that last night (no damage until you kill the ghost servitors, breaking the servitor bonds at 2/3 health, then getting poisoned and having to pass it back and forth, then getting mines at 1/2 and 1/4 health).

Having the Variks armor with Fallen perks would help immensely in the 35. The helm he has this week, in particular, is pretty good (increased recovery and super energy when fighting Fallen in PoE). You may want to get that from the 32 (from the armor core) and level it up before attempting the 35. Since it works on the last 3 rounds that is pretty useful - unfortunately it is either that or the broom helm for the Titan, though, which is a tough choice to make.

A relatively easy way to get through rounds 1-5 is just to run as 3 Titan bubble bros. You can pretty much continuously have bubbles since you generate orbs for each other. In the past we've done that and then switched out for other characters at Skolas (you could just run your 3 Titans there as well, though having self-rezzing Warlocks is nice with the whole poison thing).

I think I'm done with this game. I ran a VoG hard this morning with a LFG group and got nothing but shards and energies. One guy in the group got The Last Word, Found Verdict, Fatebringer, and also got VoC at the very end. He said these are at least his 10+ of all these weapons. I know rewards are based on a RNG system but come on throw a guy a frigging bone.

So after that I need to grind out my Iron Banner rank and get killed over and over again by Thorn thanks but no thanks.

Sadly the RNG from VoG drove many people away from the game, never to return.  Back in the day before the expansions you could only get to Level 30 by getting extremely lucky enough to have all the Raid armor drop for you.  Some people got everything in a couple runs, while others were left hoping for that one last drop they needed for months or longer.  I think they had a term like "Forever 29" or something.  Luckily with Crota they made the drops much more plentiful, but they never went back and adjusted drop rates on VoG, so if you want some of the best weapons in the game you still have no choice but to grind Hard VoG 3x a week until they drop for you.

How many times have you run Hard mode VoG?

I am still a VoG and Crota toddler maybe 8-10 times each and I only have one character. I am very late to the party as far as the matchmaking groups go. But I feel I am at the point with 300+ hours in that I cant really move on to something else. (i.e. ESO, Witcher 3)

Rerolled my Efrideet's Spear. Still got Void, and didn't get ambush scope or field scout, either. I finally got Tacsys scope, spray & play, final round, then perfect balance/armor piercing rds/the other rounds that stagger enemies. final round & spray & play is what I was going for. I hope it will help me finally go perfect in Trials, as that's the only thing that stops me...well that & having to go to LFG for teammates. I was 8-0 with my mercy & still lost 2 games in a row because I got on a team with this guy who hax max grim, high k/d, etc, but wanted to rush with shotguns. That is NOT my playstyle, and have never won with anyone doing that. They rush, get killed, we end up 2v3 with no way to revive them. If you practice like that, and you are great at rushing, great. It's very hard to find people that complement my playstyle. When I do, we wreck. Unfortunately, all those people have been on 360. When I lost those 2 rounds, it was on XB1. I went 9-2 with both other chars last week, and all wins were on 360. People don't swap to Truth on rocket round, and all kinds of differences. I so wish the XB1 community was more like the 360 one.

RNG can be a real pain. Best advice I can give you is:

-create a 2nd character that's the same type of guardian as your current character. If you have a titan make another titan, for example.

-breeze thru the story super fast, just so you can hit level 20

-move the good, high level armor from your main character over to the new character so that you can run VoG and Crota twice as often.

This will give you at least 2 shots at loot each week (per activity) instead of just one. You could also create a 3rd character and do the same to triple your shots at loot.

The run up to level 20 isn't hard. It was the jump from 20 to 30 that could cause you grief. Luckily you can avoid that by simply moving the necessary armors back and forth as soon as you hit level 20

Yup, they do look cool.

Interesting that there's no re-roll option.  Wonder if these are raid weapon drops.  Pretty sure I saw at least 1 Iron Banner weapon in there.

I kind of hope they take away re-roll. It is making me keep way too many weapons in my Vault. If it weren't for that I'd have much more space. I feel like I need to keep everything after finding out about great rolls people get with certain hand cannons, scout rifles, or pulse rifles. Now every time I get one from Crucible I have to keep it until I can research what I can roll it to. In the old days when a gun just came with crap perks I'd instantly delete it.

Anyway, despite saying I'd stay away from this game till later in the week, I've been running IB. I already got one guy to rank 3. I guess I like being able to take out my Trials frustrations on poor Iron Banner casuals ;). I can nearly always go positive on K/D and sometimes even finish in the 2-4 range. I've certainly gotten a lot better at PvP because of Trials, as frustrating and fruitless as it has been otherwise.

I keep the weapons, too, but only complaint is I don't have enough weapon parts to upgrade rest of my exotics, and re-roll weapons. I keep doing strikes, but still doesn't add up fast enough. I focus on one gun at a time, but I have ended up deleting every crucible vendor gun since I can buy them later if I wanted to (they suck, though).

I will probably start IB today. I just want MAYBE the chest for hunter, but none of the gear looks good to me, and stats certainly don't warrant getting it (I have all the old IB gear, anyway, and it's all same light level, same perks).

I did FINALLY get my Shadow of Veils sniper with Disciplinarian. I was happy. I have all the Fallen weapons now. I got a void wolfslayers claw on Tue from Skolas. I will probably do it 2 more times, still, but I have the weapons I want. Glad to see the drop rate is higher. I wish the Skolas Gear helped in Trials just like the Trials gear helps in PvE (otherwise it wouldn't need burns at all). I want the Warlock arms for sure (will get all, though). I have been drooling over the Scholar. I wish I could get one with burn, but I will get the one without it this week at least (though hardly any room in vault).

Lastly, to the CAG's saying they need to be carried in PoE 35.... That's not really possible. In the raids, you could carry people because there were 6 people. In PoE, you MUST have everyone doing their part, or you won't beat it. This is probably the easiest week, though, to be honest. It's best if 3 people that haven't done 35, and are level 34, go in together so you learn everything together. No one that's experienced gets upset that a 45 minute PoE is taking 5 hours, you learn how to survive, where the mines appear in dismantle mines portion (other types of objectives aren't that bad), etc. THEN, even if you don't complete it, you have experience enough that when you do play with gamers that have done it so much, you can understand their instructions. Just my opinion, and that's what I did that first week with friends that couldn't beat it before I went on LFG to find groups to join, and DID beat it with them. I usually find people already at Skolas on LFG nowadays, so it's much quicker.

Because passage coins are in the loot table and as you know good ole RNG at work there.

And Crucible, Trials, and IB is always Thorn, Last Word, Shotgun  :bomb:

Scholar is money. Impact is crazy high, lower rate of fire. I was using my Solar Adept in the weekly heroic (it didn't have all the perks but I was hitting 1399 crit head shots. I wish one of my 2 could be void. Maybe this weekend in trials :D

Well that and the fact that Bungie's to tempt you into playing ToO... kinda the same thing they do when you go turn in an engram and it turns into armor for a guardian class different from the one you're running.

Yes that too. Which I think is a good thing. Well maybe more so good for us teams that make it with ease to the Lighthouse. :D/

I hope more bad kids populate trials again this weekend. Quicker trips to the lighthouse for me and my team so we can get back to Iron Banner. :D

Anyone else notice the drop off with friends playing? Quite a few of mine have been playing ESO. I think I may tone down the number of days I play here soon since PoE is just as boring as running bounties every day. Plus never enough for a raid team on VoG. Though I may try to solo Crota here soon. :D

Pretty much why I stopped played pvp aka game of thorns it's bs. They were so quick to nerf AR into irreverence yet they won't do the same to hand cannons.

Did some Trials late Friday night (just finished around 5am). There was some good and some bad.

The bad was simply that we made it to 8-0 (after using the mercy boon) and didn't go flawless.

The good more than made up for it though. Glock had told me earlier that other people said it was easier this week and even though we played late at night (when presumably fewer casuals and more hardcore players are on), we did much better than the last 2 weeks when we struggled and didn't even get to 5 wins for the armor. So we had a nice run to 8-0 and then switched characters and made it to 5 wins and then again with the same characters to 6 wins.

But the best part was that just from those first two runs I got 1/4 of the Trials gear alone. So obviously I got the gauntlets for both my chars (Hunter and Titan). The rank 8 package has a chance to give you something extra in addition to the etheric light, though. You can get Trials weapons, Trials gear, or exotics. I had probably one of my best RNG moments yet in this game when the rank 8 package gave me the only piece of Hunter armor I was missing: the helm. And I even said to the other guys I hope I get that from the package - which is usually a receipt for disappointment ;). I didn't get it at first - it was in the post, though. That was pretty nice.

I'm not so sure we did better because more people were playing though (at least that late). We saw 3 of the same teams more than once - and not in a row! We saw them like 3-4 matches apart so that indicates to me there's not a big pool of players. But we also did pretty well on this map (Burning Shrine) the first week. Some of that was due to other people not being 34 yet. But I also think it just plays to our style a little better.

Anyway, while I was disappointed to come so close to flawless and not get it, I was pretty happy to get 3 Trials gear pieces. Oh yeah, and the Scholar scout rifle to boot. I was playing around with that doing the Queen's bounties just now and I like it. Hopefully some day I can get an Adept version (from the Lighthouse).

On the flip side, the game does sort of continue to troll me on the drops during Trials. While the other guys got the gold ship, the Warlock bond, and some legendary engrams, all I got was the rare engram I've gotten 3 times before. Oh well... I guess I used up all my RNG karma on that helm drop!

We might try it again later this weekend and if so I'll use my Warlock (probably my best character) and we'll see if we can go 9-0.

1st Lighthouse run done with almost minimal effort.  Lost 1 game because we just got caught out of position.  Other than that it was pretty much smooth sailing.

And I got a Solar Jewel :D :D :D :D :D to go along with a Thunderlord er I mean an Exotic Shard

Dang I really wish my team could play during the day instead of late at night but I can't do mornings and the other guy works all afternoon/evening on weekends. D'oh!

Oddly the games today during the day were the "hardest" run to the lighthouse that I've had in my 5 trips. Last week at least, Saturday night was a cake walk and early Sunday evening was as well.

I actually was in a hurry to leave after I got my Lighthouse chest, so I still need to see what the Gold Tier has for me still. I'm hoping Shotgun, Sniper or Legs (the only piece I am missing).

Well, Iron Banner has been a cakewalk this afternoon, anyway. I don't think I've lost a match yet. Pushed my Warlock to 4 after getting my Titan there yesterday. I want to get my Hunter to 4 before the fireworks and then get my Titan to 5 afterwards (before reset).

I'm still looking to do a 32 PoE (and maybe a couple of 34's) if anyone is interested. I may just have to go to LFG for it.

EDIT: sorry for wall of text. Site interprets my phone's "return button" as "submit" now, it seems. I haven't even touched iron banner. I got 8 etheric light from trials, and the IB gear is trash to me (especially looks wise). I already had the trials sniper, got the shotgun from a package, and a non adept jewel. I bought the scholar, but then went flawless on 2 characters (hunter & titan) & got a solar scholar (have VoC so wish is was different element, but oh well. Got a arc summoner, which everyone says is the most common weapon, and the worst. Oh well, again. All I need now is all the chest pieces & the hunter helm (one they gave as prize that week was all strength, and I couldn't find people to play with. People I found were on 360, oddly enough. We play with snipers, and rest just rush in that I've found. If they die, it's 2v3 & we cant get to them to res. Tried on my warlock again (got 8-0 time) with a diff 3rd & he was a rusher, so we got to 5. He begged me to play with us, he had already been flawless 3 times that day, so his comment is "oh well, I had my flawless". Every reason to not waste my time with someone that has different play style, and has no need to go flawless. Maybe next week. Not enough will to try when I have all tier rewards. Need to do crota for a helm to upgrade for hunter with health regen from orbs, but worn out from destiny. Have 22+ etheric light with all my weapons upgraded, even stuff I rerolled & had to use 2 on. Nothing left to get except the 2 ascended trials primaries I couldn't care less about (pistol & messenger, which I have normal version of, and wouldn't use in PvE where burn matters).
