Official CAG Destiny Thread - Rise of Iron

Did one hard raid clear Tuesday night.  Everyone wanted to go play other games so we barely got that done.  It doesn't look like my regular group will be doing any more this week so I'm definitely down for any more normal or hard runs.

I finally got my first 320 but it was the shotgun.  I'll probably put it into my 315 1000-Yard stare.

Yet again I got no helmet or primary from the hard raid.  I've cleared hard at least 7 or 8 times and Normal more than that and I've only ever gotten 1 helm (a 306) and one hard mode primary (which at least was a 319 Scout).

Then I did Iron Banner on my Titan to get to rank 2 really quick.  They definitely fixed the drops as I saw several people get the chest piece that you can buy at rank 3.  They were clearly getting it to drop before rank 3 though since it was the first day.  Then once I hit rank 2 I switched over to my Warlock and I ended up getting TWO chest pieces.  I got the first while still rank 1 and the second when I was just over rank 2.  The second one was 310!  That was a surprise as my first one was 290-something.  It is a pretty good roll with Arc defense so I'll use that when I'm running Stormcaller.

I was somewhat handicapping my team as I'm still trying to get the radiance multikills and then a whole bunch of new crucible quests opened up for me.  I have the ones where you get 6+ kills 4 times with different weapons.  I actually got the auto rifle part done without too much trouble using Suros Regime - though the number of times I got outshot by some pulse rifle was staggering.  I was definitely hurting my team trying to do that.  Fortunately, the next step is pulse rifles.  And I can't wait for hand cannons as I want to try out that First Curse which I just picked up as well.  And for scout I'll just use Tlaloc.

I'll have to say I don't like Clash as the Iron Banner mode - much prefer Control.  Oh well, I just need to get used to it I suppose.  Clash can be so random sometimes.

Can anything in Iron Banner drop above 310?  I logged in to see what the items looked like, but didn't bother playing at all. Not sure I am going to either even though I have all the weekly bounties saved up from last iron banner, lol.  Anyone have those saved and turn them in?  I'm assuming you cannot pick them up and complete them again this week, right?

After some extremely frustrating Kings Fall HM runs over the weekend via LFG, I have not had any desire to play.  So many people have moved on and I'm guessing the die hards are getting their HM runs in on reset and moving onto other games the rest of the week.  A HM totems through Deathsingers run used to be a quick and easy farm, but if it turns into a total grind and keeps dropping garbage loot like it did this past weekend then it might be time to walk away until they give us some idea what is coming next. 

A fun CAG run each week might draw me back for a couple hours so let me know if you guys are still planning that.  Although I'll probably be binge watching Jessica Jones when it releases on netflix later this week so that might be where my evening gaming time is spent.

Ok, sounds like we have some interest from a few. I'm definitely interested. Does tonight work or tomorrow or hit it on Saturday? I'm open for anything but would like to have a normal, standing night or two with the gang. We could have it on Tuesday night if you guys want.

What are the votes? I'll start with Wednesdays starting at 9:30PM.

In that case Wednesdays would work better for me. I'm in a long distance relationship and usually have my weekends booked driving to Minneapolis. She will be moving in April so that will help things. Sadly not a gamer so I can't have her join in the Destiny fun when she is visiting me and usually she comes to my place on Thursdays.

Looks like people are getting 310+ ghosts from iron banner so I may have to give it another go. Hopefully luck is still shining on me.

Edit: should have read the whole thread before replying. Tuesday and Wednesday nights are best for me.

Yeah I had some daily and weekly bounties left over on a few characters. I haven't turned in the weekly ones yet as I want to save them for when the boon is higher. But I turned in some daily ones on my Warlock and got NO new ones for today. I must have just happened to have all 3 of the ones that were running for today.

310+ ghosts, really?

I thought IB didn't even give stuff over 300, let alone 310. Last week all my drops were sub-300 and so was my first one this week. I was shocked when I got that 310 chest piece. I wonder if those can drop over 310 as well?

I can run the Raid tonight - the later the better of course, but 7pm Pacific might work for me. I'll be on then if I can.

I finished the raid this morning but would love to run it again for practice. Plus if somebody could hold my hand for the ship jumping part so I can get my 45th fragment ivwould be forever grateful.
 
Plus I also ran about 8-9 matches of Iron Banner and saw the just piece drop 3 times for post game rewards for other people. Every time it dropped is was 305+ light level.

I think I am done with Iron Banner. I did like 12-15 matches and never got anything to drop postmatch other than coins and motes. I was at the top at least 3-4 times and one match I went 24-3 and got nothing while the last place guy who went 2-14 got the chest piece at 307. And yesterday I was playing and I stuck a hammer titan with two fusion grenades one right before he popped his super and one right afterwards and neither killed him. The best part is once he killed me the first time I got to respawn to one of his incoming hammers in flight and he got me again. 

 
I did a bunch more Iron Banner last night (getting to rank 3) and had nothing drop the entire time, unlike the night before when I got 2 chest pieces.  But still, it is so easy to level up later in the week that I'll get all my chars high enough to buy the two armor pieces even if I don't get them to drop.  I have more legendary marks than I know that to do with anyway.  In fact, I can't even turn in the weekly bounties until I buy something to clear some space from the cap.

I'm trying to decide if I want to LFG hard mode runs this week.  I'm not sure it is worth it.

Is anybody going to be on tonight? I need a hand running the two ToM missions at the end of the Quest for it. I should be able to be on around 11:00 pm EST.

I started Iron Banner and just want having fun. So the only point of me doing it would be for drops. Considering my luck getting a ghost I figured I'd rather plug away at my backlog than try at the CHANCE of getting what I want. I did up the Watchdogs Bad Blood DLC of all things.

I could possibly help if you're on earlier. It isn't too hard to solo if you have to, though. For the last mission just stay in the door way where you enter and it makes the enemies much more manageable.
 
Did they fix the vulture issue that was blocking XB1 users from logging on earlier today?  I was just trying to get my variks packages and take another look at the iron banner rewards and I couldn't even log on due to that.  I guess bungie is trying to make sure I couldn't even play if  I wanted to.

 
I think they did, I never had the "vulture" issue but I had like 4-5 pairs of rare boot engrams that would decode straight into armor materials which was very odd.

He should spawn when a quarter health is left on the boss. I guess the enemies can kill him if your aren't quick enough.
 
I want to thank Moose for giving me a hand finishing up my ToM quest. Not only did he help me with the last two missions but he also helped me get the Scent of the Worm chest which was my 45th fragment.

 
Phew, got my first Oryx HM kill.  Had to resort to LFG to get it, but i got it done.  Now I at least know the strategy using two titan bubbles/no Knight.  I hadn't run that one before.  Great drops, too.  315 boots, 317 titan mark, harrowed upgrade to yasmin/sniper and a 311 harrowed auto rifle.  Got up to 312 light, which I never thought i'd get to. 

 
Woot!  Great Trials Run!  Flawless:  319 Doctrine of Passing Adept, Got the Ghost Shell from Gold Tier, and also got Amduat Shader to drop :drool: :drool: :drool: :drool: :drool:

And a full set of trials gear on my Hunter!  Titan next then Warlock.

So, uh, Iron banner was going horrible at first and I almost stopped playing.  I had jumped on my Hunter and for whatever reason I could barely get shots on anyone before I got destroyed.  I had one 1-and-15 game.  Ugh.  I don't know if it was lag or what but I just wasn't doing damage.

After reset I decided to switch back to my Warlock who I was trying to push to rank 5 first.   Things went remarkably better.  I won a bunch and then realized I was only about 1000 points away from rank 5 and still had all 3 weekly bounties to turn in.    So I turned one in to hit Rank 5 and then went to visit Saladin.

And man, the reward I got was better than anything I got slogging through Trials or even the Hard raid for that matter.  He gave me a 310 Iron Ghost shell and a 319 (!) rocket launcher!  The RL doesn't have great perks (increased ammo pickup radius and 3 in the tube) but I can use it to infuse something.  Though I just plan to keep it for now as a trophy since I already have my Truth at 318 anyway.

And to top it all off I got a Cryptarch package which finally gave me the Arctic Proxy shader.  Now my Warlock is icy cool...

Just taking a break - am jumping on my Titan now to get up to Rank 5 ASAP!

 
...and my luck continued!

Playing on my Titan I had a 318 (!) ghost shell drop just from the match rewards.  Holy hell!  That is 4 better than any I've gotten from the hard mode Raid.  That is insane.  I would definitely recommend people play IB and push to rank 5.

I was at rank 2 on my Titan before I started tonight.  With the catch-up bonus (since my Warlock was rank 5) I got to nearly rank 5 in just about 2 hours.  I did the Daily bounties (minus the 2500 points one which I think they forgot to adjust for the change from Control to Clash) and turned in just one weekly. I think the weekly by itself gave me around 2200 points.  I can turn in the second weekly to hit rank 5 or probably what I'll do is just wait for Sunday's bounties and boon and hit it that way and save the weekly bounty for next time.  I have two weekly bounties saved on my Warlock too.

As for the ghost shell drop, I don't know the requirements for that but it could be that you have to be rank 5 on at least one character.  The guys in the PS4 thread seem to think your drops (armor, weapons, ghost) drop in matches once you hit the threshold, whatever those may be, on any character.  So it is best to push one to rank 5 and then just casually play the others and hope for drops ;).

Edit: apparently the 310 ghost shell is a guaranteed reward from Rank 5 along with another item (weapon or maybe armor?).  I swear I saw a Titan wearing the new IB helm and that hasn't been available as a normal reward yet so I'm guessing he got it in a rank 5 package.  One of the guys in the PS4 thread said he got 310 ghost shells in all 3 of his rank 5 packages.  He also got a 315 fusion rifle but didn't mention the other items.  I'm pretty sure my 319 RL was a pretty rare drop - it will probably be like my very first Trials silver tier package that gave me a 313 Light Beyond Nemesis.  I haven't gotten anything but blue engrams from it since then.   Regardless, IB is definitely much more rewarding than it was last time.  I know a lot of people swore it off after last time but you need to give it a shot (Glock/Drunkz!).

Io, I got that shader a few weeks ago. I think it's cool (pun intended) but I feel weird using it since it is only a rare. ;-) I think mine came from a crypt arch package as well.

Indeed, I was going to post something about that. Even though it is only a "rare" I feel like it is actually more rare than many legendaries.

I think I'm going to try some mid-day Iron Banner and see how that goes. I nearly always play late at night. I should be doing Trials now...

Yeah, sure!

So my luck in Iron Banner continues. First of all, I'm doing much better playing not in the middle of the night. I'm routinely going 1.5 K/D. Go figure, though, in my worst game of the day I got a 320 ghost shell to drop!

So that's two ghost shells that beat anything the stupid Raid has given me. And also, the artifact I got for my Hunter is Int/Disc like the legendary one I got from the quest but has 8 points higher in one stat (and the other is the same). So I'll be using that blue artifact from now on until I get something better than 310.

So for IB I know your overall light level comes into play but does the light level of your weapons come into play at all? Like will a 310+ Red Death kill you faster than a 290 one?

Also I wish I would have played it last time and got that pulse rifle I am getting murdered with it when I play.

I thought it was overall light level not the weapon light level but I'm not 100% sure. And yeah, I should use Nerwen's too. I have it but stubbornly refuse to use it, though I am using my Grasp of Malok which is very similar.

So maybe you just get one extra item at Rank 5 per account? I hit rank 5 with my Hunter and just got the 310 ghost shell and nothing else. I was really hoping for some 311-320 armor (and in particular the helm) or possibly a primary. Will have to see later tonight what I get on my Titan.

Also light level definitely has little (or nothing) to do with the high-level ghost shell drops. I saw a 297 get a 316 ghost shell. At first I was wondering if maybe you had to play at 310+. Apparently not!

The funny thing is that while I got those two ghosts to drop, I have not been getting any armor for a while. I ended up buying both pieces for my Hunter since I didn't get either to drop. I also haven't gotten the hand cannon though I did get two of the machine gun (both are sitting in the post for my Hunter).

Overall light level being equal, your weapon's damage level could still make a difference.

For example, you go up against someone with same the same light level ( same armor, etc.) and you're using the same weapon... but yours is a lower attack (290 vs 310). It would take you longer to kill the other person.

Log out and log back in. I had to do that with all 3 of my guys. Of course my Titan gets a Helmet, my Warlock got the Auto Rifle and my fuck ing hunter get a class item... :roll:

Thankfully Trials was a lot kinder to me. 319 Adept Scout with Full Auto & Outlaw :drool: as well as a 310 Helm of Inmost Light and I got the other shader to drop too :D Gold tier was shit, another sniper... sigh...

Yep, I figured that out when I switched to my Hunter for Trials. So while I got the 319 rocket launcher immediately when I got my first rank 5, the other 2 didn't show up till I switched characters. The reward popped when I appeared in orbit. My other two characters BOTH got the Iron Banner boots. But the ones for my Hunter were 317 and that was a huge increase over the 308 Raid boots that were my previous best ones. I got 313 or so boots for my Warlock (who already had better ones). I would have liked a helmet, but oh well...

So, yeah, then I decided to do one run of Trials on my Hunter since I still want the cloak. I signed up using the LFG casual/relaxed Trials category and got two guys who hadn't really played Trials much and weren't sure how it all worked. Remarkably, we wiped the floor with the first team we saw. But then it was all downhill from there. They were done after 5 games so I had to LFG yet again and finally got my bounties complete. What did I get? Yeah, another MFing artifact (and of course nothing from Silver). The artifact at least was 310 this time. But my Hunter is the one that got the ungodly stat roll on the rare (blue) artifact from Iron Banner. The new one from Trials has worse stats :bomb:.

My return from Iron Banner was way better than Trials (and the Raid recently for that matter) ever is. With the ghost, boots, and 319 RL, I am able to get my Hunter to 316.

I was so frustrated with the Trials rewards and pro teams we got matched up with right from the start most games that I decided to play a little Iron Banner afterwards. I thought maybe late night meant only good players were on (as it seemed to mostly be in Trials). But I kicked some ass in IB. I got the top overall score to complete that weekly bounty (which I didn't even need - will save it for next IB) and won 3-4 games in a row all while being at or near the top of the board. So that was fun at least. In one game I just rushed everyone with my shotgun. I used to play so conservatively so that was fun. I was kind of trying to get the Bladedancer melee kills done for the emblem quest though usually I'd just one-shot them before I could blink strike ;). So I still have a few more to go. I didn't get any more ghosts but I saw some drop for other people. I might play a bit more tomorrow to farm those ghost shells. I could use a few more to level up my other shells.

Here's a summary of my haul from IB:

- Ghost shells at 317, 318, and 320.

- Iron Banner boots at 313 and 317

- Iron Banner rocket launcher at 319

- IB chests for 2 characters with one of them being 310

- I think I only had one pair of IB gauntlets drop

- A couple of the normal weapon drops (hand cannon and machine gun - I think 3 total)

I'll continue to farm for the armor along with the ghost shells if I play tomorrow then just buy whatever I don't get though the perks are horrible on some of the ones Saladin has so I'm hoping for some more drops. I think both Hunter pieces are decent (though they have a Hand Cannon focus) but the others were lacking,.

Tried Iron Banner last night, and actually didn't did too bad. So today I thought I'd see if I could get to Level 3 to get the artifact.
Took FOREVER. I felt like every game was the same....we're winning....we're winning...we're winning.....we lose right at the end!

I did finally get the artifact, and it boosted me all the way from a low 298....to a high 298. I give up.
 
Well, got 2 more ghost shells last night: one at 317, and another at 320.  So I made my Dread Explorer shell 320.  I realized after all my infusing that my Raid shell is my lowest of all the different legendary shells at 310.

I was playing a ton on my Warlock because I was also working on unlocking the weekly crucible bounties which I finally did late last night - of course not enough time to do them before reset and I'll probably be burned out on PvP to do them next week ;).  I was also working on the Chaperone quest and finally got past the Last Word part.  Now I just need shotgun kills so I'll probably do some more IB tonight for that.

 
So glad I gave Iron Banner another shot tonight.
Won a bunch of matches in a row and cashed in some bounties to get up to Level 5. Got the 310 Ghost and a sweet looking 314 Scout Rifle, with IB markings. Nice surprise.
And it was still fairly early, so I thought maybe I could at least get my Hunter up to 3 and get the artifact. Well, after my second game, a 311 Ghost dropped, so I finished the night with both the Ghost and Artifact for the Hunter also. Was so happy, I bought the Hand Cannon and Machine Gun too.

So after forever 297 with my Titan, I'm now 302. And the Hunter I didn't even have before TTK is at 298.
 
Iron Banner ended at midnight instead of the 1am reset.  In my final game I got another ghost shell (and then it said I didn't qualify for another match).  So I think I got 6 or so.  I never did go buy the gloves for my Titan, but they were pretty crappy anyway.

I used the last hour before reset to finish up the weekly crucible bounties that I had just unlocked for the first time a few days ago.  That gave me.. wait for it... a 303 Competitive Shell.   Meh - figures ;).  Of course that was pretty lame after all the 316+ shells I got from IB (I did finally get one at just 313 earlier today but all 5 or so of the others were 316+ with the 2 at 320).

I also tried to do the final strike step of the Chaperone quest where you have to kill (or at least damage) the Shield Bros. with a shotgun.  It is a harder version of the strike and the worst part was encountering groups of void shielded Psions that my primary and non-Void secondaries would do very little damage to (and that shield modifier is supposedly not even on).  At the bosses I switched to Telesto and was doing decent but then got booted to the title screen for the second time.  The first time I was soloing it and then another guy came in and I got booted to the title screen after the Walker.   I started it back up and joined right in with the same guy again (apparently we were the only 2 people in the world doing that strike) but once I got booted the second time at the Shield Bros. I gave up.  We had wiped a few times there anyway.  It would really be nice to have 3 in there so I'll have to find some help.  Plus since I was using Telesto I would have had to switch to a shotgun at some point and that would leave me vulnerable (to both the psions and to death in general as I'd have to use a synth for my shotgun).

After that I thought about LFGing for a Raid but I just did the Nightfall instead.  It is Alak-Hul with specialist and Telesto did some nice work on him.  I got a 290-something auto rifle for my trouble, but at least it wasn't that hard.  It sure seems pretty lame to make the weekly crucible bounty a "Nightfall-level" reward when those are generally so lame.  It takes a lot of time to unlock the weekly crucible in the first place and then considerably more time than a Nightfall to complete 5 bounties.  It should be at least 2 Nightfall type rewards if not a chance at a 310+.  Or they should just make Nightfall rewards better, especially if you are already over 310.

Shoot you guys are so lucky with your drops for IB. All I got from my rank 5 package was the 310 ghost. Which was nice since it was 16 points higher than the one I was using. I got a few drops as post game rewards but nothing over 295. I got 3-4 chest pieces and 2-3 hand cannons all with crappy perks. I think I got one pair of gloves to drop at 290 that had decent perks.

Any chance we are going to throw a raid group together tonight? I am up to 307 wearing my max gear.
 
Ran the Nightfall this morning and got my second 310 4th Horseman in as many weeks as my reward. Cant complain as I now have a 310 Black Spindle.

 
Anybody up for a normal run at the raid tonight?  I have a friend who would like to run it for the first time, but if we have a good enough group we should be able to get through it quick.  Otherwise I'm going to have to wait until next week to join Chubby's weekly group he suggested.

You should get a 310+ item as well from the rank 5 nut it might not show up right away. Try logging out completely (changing profiles or completely shutting down the Xbox) and then back in. I got 2 of my rewards simply after switching characters but others apparently had to do the profile switch/log out trick.

I'd love to, but with family around for Thanksgiving I'm tied up for anything but late-night runs. So I'll be on tonight but not until 10pm Pacific or so. I never ran my Hunter through any part of the Raid last night. It is still by far the best way to get higher-level secondary/heavy weapons and armor (especially on hard mode). I should have at least LFG'd for a Warpriest/Golgoroth clear.

I thought people would be busy, but figured it is my only chance this week so I'd throw it out there. I may try for a quick Sunday or Monday night run.
