Well, I called them today.. Didn't get my box yet. They are getting another box shipped out to me.. this is ridiculous..
Just sent my in today, how do I know when ones on its way back to me? do they email me or is it just a random guess?
They should e-mail you when they receive your console and when they ship it back out.

this is technically my second xbox 360 too. the first i managed to exchange it before the red ring showed up, but that thing was freezing and giving me disc read errors left and right.

My X-box 360 well didn't get no red rings of death or get any of that stuff. Mine just fucked up my gears of war disc (it put a nice circular scratch around the whole disc no one would ever be able to get off probably), so basically my gears of war disc is now ruined. I have a warranty at EB games (it came free with the system), so I can just return the system there, but my gears of war disc might have to go back to microsoft, lol.

Mine died last monday 5/7. Received the box today 5/14 and will be shipping it back tomorrow. Hope i get at least a day to play the Halo beta when it gets back to me.

thats a pretty big hope, but i'm prayin for ya

Just got my 360 back last night from repairs... of course, it's a replacement unit with a different serial number. Would that prevent the warranty I purchased from the store I originally bought the 360 from is no longer valid since the serial number is different? That would really suck.

Finally after 3 and a half weeks I finally got my box from Microsoft to send them my broken 360. What a fiasco! I'm thinking of calling them after I get it back and complaining that I didn't get to play the Halo 3 beta, if in fact I don't get to. Maybe I can score a free game or something.

mine died after updating the may 2007 update.

downladed update,
system rebooted itself,
turned on with 3 red lights.

just thought id add to the thread...

MS is now sending me a FIFTH box, as the previous FOUR have not had the pre-paid return label in them.

Anothe 3-4 business days, So far it has been 3 weeks since my system died, and I'm in the same spot I was 3 weeks ago, just with 4 boxes sitting here.

Mine just died a few minutes ago. I downloaded the update and it restarted, and after about 2 minutes I got the red lights. Now I cant turn it on without the 3 red lights. I've never gotten them before for any reason but I have always had a problem with freezing so this was a long time coming.

pretty much exactly what happened to me...mine worked perfect until the update though. never had a problem with freezing or anything weird. sucks...
At least you guys are getting a free month's of service or a free game, I got nothing.

The "refurbished" 360 that I got back has been playing games just fine, but it won't play burned CD's or DVD's. A fairly large inconvienence, but i'm thinking that this 360 will die within the warranty period so i'll just wait until that happens to send it off.
I would have rather MS sent me back a system that works, rather than a one month Live card.

I ended up just dumping my system at EB before it broke, which it was going to eventually as it would play DVD's EXTREMELY loud and take forever starting up (but it did start up).

MS also sent me a system back that had this circles *burned* into the top of it... it's really hard to explain, but you could definitely tell where the plastic was melted away. Not to mention the system came back dirty!

I was really disappointed that they pretty much threw together whatever "fixed" 360 they had laying around just to claim a fast turnaround time. I shipped my system to MS myself with Priority Mail, because at the time they refused to pay shipping (before they used the new policy) and I got my refurb back in a week.

I won't lie, I definitely miss the 360 and some of its games, but I won't get another one until they better DVD drives as well as the better chips are put into them.

System died last night..bottom right light went red, supposed to be some A/V error...

Called them up, they first guy I got was a douche he would tell me something to try to fix it and then would pause for 2 minutes not saying a word then say something else. Then after sitting in silence for 3 - 4 minutes I say Hello and the retard says "Yeah I'm still here" then hangs up on me. Got everything sorted out with the second guy and a box is being sent to me, the quoted time to get my Xbox back is 11 - 20 business days. Worst time for my Xbox to crap out...

I hope its a simple replacement of something and I get my own system back.

My system crapped out on me over the weekend, i got three red lights. Called Microsoft and they told me my power brick was dead and told me to ship it to them. I have to wait for a box and then ship it to them, its going to take forever to get my 360 running again.

Man, was reading through the last few pages and didn't realize this was so constant of a problem. Guess I always ignored this thread everytime it popped up. The failure rate is ridiculous, its nuts hearing what some people have to put up with to get their console fixed (Three boxes without a label is horrible).

I'm hoping everything atleast goes smoothly, I'd rather have it take longer than have to end up sending it right back.

I got a replacement harddrive from MS when mind got busted and soon afterward my 360 itself got the red ring so I took it back to bestbuy. They didn't look at the serial number on my box, so I would say your warrantys still good.

Well my THIRD 360 is pretty much on it's way out. I used to manage an EB Games so when the first two went the people I knew there just returned it and gave me a new one. Now since nobody I used to work with works there anymore I had to make the call to Microsoft. Just a couple of questions from people who had theres repaired. How long have they lasted or did they break again after repair? Is it worth it to buy the extended warranty after the repair? And how long should I be prepared to be without my 360? Thanks in advance.

1) Got a new console back this past January.. still running great.
2) I suppose you might as well do so, just to be on the safe side if nothing else.
3) From the time I waited for them to send me the box to the time it got back to me, about 2 weeks. This was around the holidays though, so they might be faster now.

Look through this thread... I and many other people have gotten a shitty second (or third, or fourth) unit back from Microsoft. Shit, mine was almost DOA right out of the box, it sure as hell didn't work as good as my old one used to.

These problems WILL NOT end until, and only until, Microsoft puts in the new 65nm chips, new dvd drive, all the fancy stuff. Then these problems will cease, or at least greatly be diminished.

Basacially, every 360 is just a ticking time bomb that will, at one time or another, crap out. You may have it for a year, you may have it for three, but eventually it's going to red light since it's using faulty parts.

In other words, yes, *definitely* get the extended warranty if you plan on keeping it. And one poster estimated 11 - 20 business days, so you're looking at anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks without it, depending on when you send it in.

You can cut this number down if you want to pay a bit, I paid $8 or $9 to ship it to Microsoft by Priority Mail, I shipped it Thursday, they got it Saturday, shipped the replacement out Monday, and I got that one Wednesday or Thursday, so it only took me a week. It'll be a lot longer if you wait for the box, and the prepaid label is probably the cheapest shipping option they can use.

It really sucks to hear people are on their 4th and 5th 360... it is horrible.

Yeah, this shit makes me glad I bought the Best Buy warranty on the 360. None of this "waiting for MS to do something and not fuck up" nonsense. Just take the system to the store, drop it on the counter, and go get a new, hopefully functional one.

I should do that tomorrow... this freezing and power brick noise is getting really unbearable. I can't do collection pics next month if my house burns down.

BTW, fuck M$, when mine went in in early April, they told me that they would take care of my billing for that month, which was going to take in a few days from the day it broke and give me another month on a card.

Now they want $23 for the last two months because they say I didnt pay for March(Which I have the statement saying I did), April(they say that they never said anything about it), and May. The funny part about May is that I was trying to put in the card code and it kept on saying it was already used before, so they gave me a bum card.

Then I tried to take my credit card off the account and it wouldnt let me, saying that it needed to be there.

Then I get an Indian guy who wont even listen to my story on the phone, even when I'm trying to be nice, and he cant understand what my name is, kept saying it was OsKetter3O2, then saying that what I was told were lies and that I needed a new credit card.

I have my mom working on this for me, she loves all this legal stuff, now back to the Halo 3 beta

Well, add mine to the list of the fallen. Started with a dirty disc error on a nearly new disc, restarted and the drive doesn't spin or read at all. Support said the drive is more than likely dead. Coffin is on it's way.

My 360 killed itself in anticipation of the childish name calling by the pubeless on the Halo 3 beta, sparing me from the sufferring. To spare me the pain, it gave it's own life.

Well that sucks to here. Now with this being my third 360 that has broke I am thinking of maybe even getting rid of my 360 all together. That's ridiculous that people have went through 3 or 4 than MS repaired and weren't fixed. My confidence of getting a decent working 360 back from them went from eh to really really low.

Got mine back today, along with a free month of Live.

Funny thing is that my refurb is a month older than the one I sent away.
does that mean that they couldn't repair the original if they sent you a refurb?
Doubtful. I'd assume it's for a faster turnaround time. They already have refurbs, so why make the customer wait. Send them a refurb, and once their's is fixed, put it in the refurb pile.

Ding ding. I got a letter (apparently a form letter) that reads...

"So you can get back to playing and enjoying your Xbox quicker, we have replaced your Xbox console with a replacement unit.

The replacement unit has a different serial number than your old unit.

We will handle these administrative functions for you.

1. We will perform the warranty registration of the replacement console for you. If you have already registered your old unit, we will cancel the old registration.

2. If you purchased a Microsoft Extended Service Contract, we will establish a new contract to cover the replacement unit and cancel the Microsoft Extended Service Contract for the old unit."

Rest assured, you'll get a free one month Live membership out of it if nothing else. Hang in there, guys.

my 360 arrived today....
despite what the rep told me couple days ago....this is what they sent me

1) refurb 360
a) older manufactured date
b) half broken older manufactured refurb 360
c) dirty half broken older manufactured refurb 360
2) 1 month xbox live gold card
3) a letter of apology....

FUK YOU MICROSOFT

That sucks, I hope mine doesn't end up that way, they got it today, but I still haven't gotten an email. I tried calling just to get some info, and the thing won't give me a live person, it says they aren't able to take my call and try again later

I can't believe how much 3% of 360 owners bitch so much.

Just kidding. Had 1 die on me and had to go through all the M$ bullshit. They couldn't handle this much worse than they have. It's like Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney and crew planned out the customer service and repair.

My Xbox will not recognize my controller or the HD-DVD drive or my camera. The Guitar Hero guitar works though. Anyone have any ideas how to get it working? What's the support #?

i'm hoping i get one back that was manufactured this year. the one i have was made in oct of 06 i believe and i don't trust anything older than that too well.

My fucking 360 got the red ring of lights when I turned it on today, right in time for Forza 2 and the Halo 3 beta (though I can still go over my buddys house and recover my gamertag for that, I suppose). It's nothing to do with the modded consoles because I'm not getting an error message, and my 360 isn't even modded. fuck. fuck. I was playing CoD2 and it came up with dirty disc error's twice and then when i turned my 360 off and back on, BAM, 3 red lights.

This is exactly how mine ended up.
I suppose that I'm the newest member of this group.

I have near-launch system (manufactured 12-05, purchased 1-06) that bit the dust when I moved it from a vertical position on top of my desk to a inside a TV stand in a horizontal position. I knew the 360 had cooling problems, but I had no clue they were that bad; I'd figured people with problems just had dud systems, and that if mine had lasted this long I'd be good for the long run. Guess not.

Since I'm out of warranty, I'd opened my XBOX, replaced the thermal compound, did the heat gun trick, and still can't get it to boot and work reliably. I've also tried the towel trick, but have had even less success with that.

Now that I've seen you guys get your fees waived, I want to try that, but I'm afraid if I send in the system they'll just send it back, as you can obviously tell its been opened from the marks my tools left when I popped open the case. Has anyone sent in a previously-opened system before? Did they fix it or send it back? Any info is appreciated, thanks.

The guy on the phone I talked to said if they found evidence of tampering (basically, DIY fixes), they'll send your system back to you in the condition they got it. Whether or not that's a scare tactic or not, I couldn't tell you - but you may be out of luck.

If all else fails, tell them you're considering buying a PS3.

I played the "bought lots of 360 Games and XBLA games, 2 yr XBL subscriber" card along with the fact that last year, M$'s billing error screwed me out of my XBL account, forcing me to register a new XBL account. I got the free repair, the box is being sent to me this week.

Now I just have to hope that they are just trying to scare you when they say they refuse open boxes. If they do say that its opened I'll just tell them I bought it new at EBGames and refuse any part in opening it. I know firsthand how shady GS/EB is with selling used systems as New, so I will fight this repair to the death. I will not give up until I have a working system.
For the record, my 360 arrived in TX 5/16. I called today and the CSR told me that they had "repaired" the system and already shipped it back to me. I have a tracking number and a scheduled delivery date of 5/22.

I'll bet I will also recieve a refurb unit. If that's the case, I'm buying a 360 at WallyWorld switching the units and returning it. If they're going to inconvenience me with a fucking refurb unit with different serial numbers (ie to play XBLA games I'll need to be signed in - not a big deal but I don't always play in a room with a wired connection) I'm going to inconvenience them back. I will not stand idly while M$ flings shit in my face.

Woot...Mine was deliverd to MCAllen TX today at Noon...Now I wait. I hope I don't get a refurb. My 360 was in pristine condition on the outside...too bad Microsoft couldnt do anything with the insides. Positively thinking, mine was a launch unit so any refurb is going to be newer. But still, I knew where my unit was, I cant speak for a refurb.

They will check the serial number outside the box, with the serial on the console. I would advise against doing that.
