Yeah,
I held for a supervisor. She told me my request for a new one could cause me to wait an additional week. I told her with as much gaming time as I've missed, what's another week ?

But, I really played up the lost gaming time factor, but in an extremely nice manner. The game and controller came the day after my console.

they told me that a rep from MS was going to call me up, so maybe they're taking this more seriously now and will budge a little

I had called the 800-4myxbox #. The last time I was getting calls every other day regarding the status of my console. She didn't tell me anything I couldn't see via the tracking # given, but it was a nice gesture nonetheless.

I hope my service is as good as the last time.

hopefully mine is better than last time. It was during that major service update in the spring and they lost my service info three times. then they tried to bill me even though I had a warranty. Took them a month to even get a coffin to the house. then I got 2 more coffins at the door weeks after I had recieved my replacement.

that was a pain
 
Well, it happened, 2 days after my 1 year warranty with GameStop expired. When I request my "coffin" do I have to send the hard drive with my 360 or can I keep it.

We were told the same thing. They were supposed to call on Saturday (??). Phone never even rang. I'm going to be calling them back in a little while.

All you send is the console. You keep the harddrive, cords, and controller.

You've got to be kidding me. They returned the same console to me and they didn't fix it. At all. I got the same scratchy audio in the first 30 seconds of playing. I'm so pissed. Are they retarded? Did they even test it? I've been without my console (#3) for 2 and a half weeks and now I have to go through this all over again.

Thats where you ask for compentation. My friends console was sent back to him, supposedly fixed. Still didn't display properly and i highly doubt they test the consoles after 'repairing' them...

They are sending me a brand-new console and one month of Xbox Live. I guess that's pretty good but I'd rather the one I've got just work.

That's what happened to me, except I got jack shit. Not even a 1month XBL card this time. I still haven't gotten an answer from anyone on the issue either. :bomb:

Brand new as in all new, never been used components that might come in an old case but probably won't so they can't call it brand new but it is brand new - this is the explanation I got from the CSR (who was a district manager). Whether this means HDMI and/or the 65nm chip I have no idea.
 
Spent about an hour on hold trying to get through to customer service last night and have spent hours trying to do the online service request. I get to the point where it asks me about the problem then it won't go any further.

I don't want to burst any bubbles, but...

Mine was 'Brand New'...Brand new as in 'Refurb with the new heatsink.' And this was promised from the Plant Manager of the McAllen, TX repair facility. And when I called him back to ask him WTF, he said the one I got was better than brand new because it had the new Heatsink where as, at the time the new ones didn't.

I'm not complaining, I've had it back for over a month and not a single game freeze or error. Touch Wood!

A trick that I use is when Max asks, "What seems to be the problem," just reply with gibberish like "awooga" or "boogie woogie." The computer doesn't know what to make of it so it makes it a top priority to get you to a real live person. I've gotten someone in less than 30 seconds using that method on two occasions.

Just thought I would add xbox 360 # 2 to the list today. My second was only 2 weeks away from lasting a whole year. Luckily I bought it at costco so I will be returning it today but I doubt I will be an early adopter for the next Microsoft system unless I get it from costco or they do a 3 yr warranty from the start.
 
how messed up is this? i got madden early. played it all weekend on my refurbished 360. (my launch console whacked out nov 06) it was fine for about 9 months except that the disc tray wont close.

i turn it on tonight and downloaded the bioshock demo. im playing it and when i get out of the submarine thing my screen turns black. i thought the brightness was too low so i press pause but the screen is still black. thats when i felt sick to my stomach. so i power off the 360 and wait a few seconds to turn it on again.

I SEE A BLACK BACKGROUND WITH BLUE JAGGED FLASHING LINES ALL OVER MY HDTV SCREEN. i hear the xbox logo startup sound and the achievement blip when it signs onto live. but the screen is all messed up!! i tried unplugging everything and putting it into a different input on my HDTV but same effect.

just called 8004myxbox and was on hold for an hour. gave me a reference # and im waiting for the empty box, again. i mean its a free repair but i have to wait, again. why couldnt they give me one that lasts? this is unbelievable.

did anyone ever have this problem? its not a 3 red lights issue. maybe the video chip burned out? my 360 is in an open space so it didnt overheat.
 
The more people report their troubles the more it seems its people with HDTV's that are experiencing graphics problems. Heating problems seem to apply to everyone...but those with HDTVs seems to be having more problems with the graphics card. Seems like it just can't handle the 720p and 1080p...at least not the 2005 to mid-2007 consoles.

will the one i get back break again? this is really annoying. i want uninterrupted video game playing after a hard day of work. i cant even watch my dvds. wow this is really BS

Your GPU is fried, same thing happened with my 360. I could hear the menus being accessed and hear the blades shift but there was no picture, only a sea of black with white dots. Ordered my coffin on 7/26, came a week later on 8/2, shipped it the next day on 8/3, and they received it on 8/8. I checked today and it has been repaired and shipped so hopefully I will get it by this Friday which puts the entire process at 22 days. On a sad but expected note, my serial number has changed so it looks like I got a refurb.

yeah. i guess thats it. i was unplugging and replugging powering it on and off for the last half hour. its dead. now i have to wait.

I think I have a problem. I was just playing Overlord, and got to a point where the game glitched up and colored static covered the screen, locking up the game. How serious is this? Is my 360 on the verge of death?

This is my first console to ever die on me.

Guess I'll call Target in the morning. I'm assuming they'll send it back to Microsoft.

I had a RRoD from what I thought was a power fluctuation Sunday night while DLing the Bioshock demo in LP mode. Had it DL'ing, went to bed, woke up Monday morning with a RRoD. Finished up the demo DL in normal mode, worked OK running the demo yesterday. Tried it today, locked up in the middle of the demo. Power-cycled it, ended up RRoDing on me. Went through this multiple times, including the checkerboard situation on-screen.

Called MS for the coffin, though may swap it out through Costco, if they have the HDMI systems in-stock. I'll swing by there tomorrow on the way home from work and see if they do. If so, then I'll try to swap it with them, otherwise, it'll go through MS.

Oh no, first Cheapy and now Shrike! Shipwreck and Linkin, you guys better get the towels ready ;).

Shrike - I have a feeling you will be out of luck on finding newer systems at Costco this early. I'm pretty sure they repackage the systems at a central location before sending out the bundles to stores, so it will probably be a while. For a short time in Jan/Feb I was looking for one of the systems likely to have the BenQ drive and all the ones at Costco were MUCH older than that (like Aug/Sep manufactured dates when I was looking for a Nov/Dec).
 
My Smackdown vs. Raw save corrupted. It was the weirdest thing.

After the update, it would try to load, say loading, then ask me to choose the device. I choose the HD, it says the HD has been unplugged. Rinse and repeat. I had to delete everything related to Smackdown vs Raw. Works fine now.

Hopefully this isn't the first sign of a dying system.
 
Kendro, you lucked out bigtime. The turnaround time before the 3 year warranty extension was 6 days. Then it jumped to 2-3 weeks. Now the wait is 4-6 weeks not including shipping and "testing" time.

No BioShock, no Halo 3. Might as well put some time in on my PS3. At least it works...except Guitar Hero. fuck

If any of the boxes say "HDMI", then I'm in business. Otherwise, I have my coffin on the way from MS (supposedly shipped last night, though I don't think it's going anywhere until today, supposed to arrive on Monday), and will go down that route.

The irksome thing with Costco is that there's no way to see when the console was manufactured, due to the bundle pack being packaged in its plastic cocoon with all the bundled accessories. Only way I could see it for sure would be the HDMI on the outside of the box.

I plan to shake MS down for a month of Live, bare minimum, for my inconvienence.

Yeah, I was going to mention that as well. I got two from there. The first, I hadn't noticed, was in the old launch game packaging, so it was ancient (remember this was just Jan or Feb of this year). I forget the exact date on that one, but it was Spring '06 at the latest. Then I took that back and got one with the newer packaging. I took it home and opened it enough to look through the Serial #/Manu date flap to see that it was August or something and promptly returned that as well. Then I waited for the Elite which at that time was a highly disregarded rumor. Now I wish I had waited another 4 months or so :cry:.

Sounds like I should just stick to my plan with getting it fixed through MS. It's worth a trip to Costco to at least see what's there, though if the console doesn't have HDMI, it's likely not to have the updated heat sink on the GPU, which I'd get from getting my console repaired through MS.

If I do get as refurb back from MS, then I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. That one might go back to Costco, for fear of it being a POS, especially if the manufacture date is older than my console.

You won't have to shake too hard...all repairs come with a free month of xbox live. It makes up for the month you won't have it, although I hear times are getting better.

Not totally true. This most recent 'repair', I got nothing. This was returning a DOA unit that was sent to me the first time.

The total turnaround time was almost three months from the point my first unit died. I have a gold account as well as my wife for a total of 6 months of Live we're out. We called last week and they offered us a choice of a crappy game as repayment, all of which we already own. We stuck to our guns and told them we want reimbursement for the XBL we paid for.

A higher-up was supposed to call us within a few days to help us resolve this issue. A week later and no phone call. Hopefully I can get through to someone today.
 
When you first get the RROD, how long until it does it permanently?

Nevermind, I exchanged it at Target under their 90 day return policy. They put this unit's hdd on the busted system while I kept my hdd.

Also, had the HDMI port on it, so I'm assuming it has the 2nd heatsink and quieter disc drive on it too.
 
Ok, So I ended up not sending it in for other reasons. A) becuase it's extremely inconveniant for me right now B). becuase I got cold feet. My problem wasn't that bad and I dind't want to lose it for a month. No problems so far. Hopefull I won't have any for the next 6 or so months.

This just showed up via FedEx with a 1month card included. Apparently, they only skimmed the complaint email and saw I never received a 1month card for this time, ignoring the fact my 360 was out of my hads for far longer than that.

So now I'm only out a total of 4 months. Getting closer, MS!

i got a new one today...Was talkin to a friend on live and the whole screen went into gray bars and all audio cut out. Turned it off and then back on and it started into the xbox logo in the begining but froze and went into gray bars. Turned it off and on again and got the RROD. turned it off, waited like 10 mins, turned it on again worked for 2 mins and started to listen to a message then a loud buzz game from the tv and everything froze on screen. Same thing just happen. Time to call some people :(
 
My third 360 just red ringed and I'm awaiting my coffin. Because this will be the third time for repair, I had to speak with a supervisor who suggested that I may be breaking the machines on purpose. He is having me send in my power supply as well to check to determine it isn't faulty. What bullshit...


This console is by far the biggest heap of shit that has ever been made.
 
I don't think they're fully repairing the units they are passing off as refurbished. In order to get caught up after the line of people waiting got so large, they're just rushing the "repair" process. Because a lot of people getting systems back are ending up with duds.

If mine comes back and craps out, I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and demanding a brand new retail system with a manufacture date beyond the date they started adding the new heatsinks to the manufacturing process. Microsoft is already listed in the BBB's database, so people must have reported them before.

My Xbox died before 90 days was up, which also packaged in a broken controller, so I might have a little flex in any future arguments with the puds manning the phones at 1-800-4MY-PIECEOFSHIT.

I think this joke was posted before but what they are probably doing is just switching the address labels on every incoming box so everyone just gets everyone else's 360. :lol:

I really hope my 360 comes in tomorrow. MS stated that my unit shipped when I called on Tuesday and I know they use 3 day shipping. If not, Monday is going to be a long wait.
 
I just got what appears to be a new one back last Friday with a July 27th date. The turn around was about 3.5 weeks. Also the new system appears to have the new heatsinks installed. I can't complain much about the turn around, however this new system has a broken faceplate which I'm going to have to call in about. No it doesn't have an HDMI port, since someone asked earlier in another repair thread.
