My launch 360 just died. Now I need to know what to do! Any info would be appreciated. Do I need to send my harddrive & power brick when I send my 360 to them? Will all my data on my HDD get lost? :bomb:

1. Don't panic
2. Call 1-800-4-My-Xbox
3. Talk with the peoples
4. When the box comes insert your first born (If you have no children you need to skip this step and go straight to humping females without protection) and returnz
5. Waitz
6. Waitz mores
7. Call 1-800-4-My-Xbox
8. Verify you sent them the wrong thing

10. When box comes remove first born and insert brokenz xbox
11. Feel free to send them ALL xbox related hardware and software (Microsoft runs a full service repair center - all games will be resurfaced, the xbox will get a blow job and all other hardware will be drop tested for qualityz)
12. Waitz s'more
13. When you get the box open it and discover only the xbox was returned to you since they tell you about schfifty five times don't send anything except the xbox
14. Plug ins xbox with new power brick from ebayz
15. Plug ins A/V cable so you don't see the fake ring of deathz

Got my 360 today so that would make it 20 days of shipping, repairing and shippiing again. It's running like a dream and I just upgraded to the 120 gig hdd because amazon's sale forced me to get it lol. I'm back and I've got some catching up to do!

So I call them, get the box, only put the 360 in it (no cables, no brick, no HDD), mail it, wait, get 360 back? Will they send my actual 360 back or some crappy one that wasn't mine?

What's the build date on yours? Mine is coming back this week, and I think I have a 2006 refurb.

Think about that question just for a second or two. Your xbox HAD to be crappy for you to send it to them...what does it matter if you get "yours" back or not? Was there some sort of intimate relationship with that specific xbox? Could you not carry on console coitus with one of it's clones?

I read on the 360 support site (I think) that they only repair your console if there's a record of a Red Rings in the boot log, or something to that effect.

I had red rings over a year ago and I just restarted it and it was fine...I wonder if that'll show up and count.

After playing Oblivion (which seems to be the kiss of death for most people), my 360 seems to be running a lot louder than normal. I popped in the latest OXM disc, and it sounds almost like a PC trying to load programs (loud disk noise, that sorta "processing" noise). Unless there was a dashboard update that allowed the 360 to take flight, I fear that my refurbished box could be on the way out.

All 360's have the hardware clamp problem, but not all 360's are treated the same. Some people let there's get full of dust, scratched, abused, dirty, and just plain don't take care of it. While mine has been treated like the Holy Grail, its beyond mint other than the problem that caused the rrod.

Microsoft will ABSOLUTELY NOT honor their own goddamn policy.

I've called THREE TIMES since June 4th, 2005 about my 360 redlighting here and there, but everytime they've offered 'alternate troubleshooting.' My USB ports blew out on the front while I was using my HD DVD drive, causing Red Rings. Their solution? "Use the port in the back!" They never once offered me to send it in for repairs. Well today, the whole console is shot. I called in and said "I think it's dead this time." They will NOT offer their own new warrenty and they want me to send it in at a cost of 99.99. I've got 26 XBLA games, *two* Live Accounts, one for me, one for my brother in law in which we use to play Halo 3, 31 actual 360 disc-based games, four controllers $50 wireless controllers, the HD DVD Drive, all the chargers, the whole nine yards. This is a pretty shitty way to treat someone that's invested several grand into their 360.
Do I need to send my power brick, HDD, any cables, or just send the console alone?
JUST. THE. CONSOLE.

If you've already got the coffin, you should know this already.

Keep calling back until you talk to someone that knows the policy and will go by it.

Go online and register the console then request a repair online and say that your console got the 3 RROD. They will send you a coffin, u would never have to talk to anyone.

Have you actually gotten the three red rings? I mean, as crappy as it sounds, that IS the policy, and if you haven't gotten that general hardware failure, then that isn't a part of their warranty.

I got the three rings when the front USB ports blew out. And their solution to that was to "Use the one in the back." Thanks Micro$oft.

I'm not saying that you're taking this a bit too far, but getting them to send you a box really isn't all that difficult. Like someone else said earlier, you can go to (www.service.xbox.com) and you don't even have to speak to anyone. They might take a month just to send you the fucking box, but you'll get it sooner or later.

I've had my tracking number for the return shipment of my console for 2 days, and for 2 days it said "Billing information received." Now, UPS is telling me that my delivery has been rescheduled for 10/16.:bomb:

So, you got your console at least six months before everyone else did?

:whistle2:k

If you had gotten the three red rings when the USB port blew, then you wouldn't have been able to use the console at all. The least of your worries would have been using the back USB ports. I'm not a fan of M$ customer service by any stretch of the imagination, but both times I got the three red rings, I never had any trouble getting them to ship a coffin. And as far as running the stupid solutions, if you know it's broken, you don't really have to. I've told them I've tried all of them, and to no avail.

100 bucks down the drain because my disc drive doesnt work. I have had my 360 for two years with no problem and it decides to break down two weeks after Halo 3 comes out.

My new 360 is on the way. I will have been down for a total of about 3 weeks. Last played 9/25 and delivery is scheduled for 10/16.

Not good enough. Having no 360 for 3 weeks is just plain acceptable. I was pretty nice this time--did get my case escalated, but was still nice. I'll be much more of agressive the second time around, that's for sure. At this point, I feel like it's not a matter of if, but when.
I believe you're mistaken.

1080p isn't even achieveable through component. Hence the reason for the HDMI in the first place. Theoretically, HDMI is producing a purely digital signal. That's why the xbox is able to upconvert regular DVDs in the first place...

read it for yourself...
Uh... no offense. But, I didn't click your link and I don't need to read that.

My post was basically saying TRUE 1080p is not possible through component. I know that. I thought I stated that clearly in my post, but I apologize if I did not. BUT, that doesn't mean that you can't have a 1080p signal be downconverted to a lower 1080i or 720p and then upconverted through your HDTV, like someone mentioned after your post.

For example: My friend, clear as day, has his Xbox360 set as 1080p, but is using component cables. If I set MY 360 as 1080p using component cables, it flips out, because my Sony KDS cannot upconvert to 1080p through component.

But, his picture quality is not as good as mine. In both of our opinions, not just mine. :)

Also, more related to the topic, I got "my XBOX360" back. I put that in quotes because they gave me a brand new system. The MFR date on the back is 9/24/07... I don't know how long it took them because I needed a new 360 so I bought an Elite. I wasn't really paying attention. It was a little under a month from RROD to new 360 at my doorstep.

Down for the count a second time.

RIP Xbox 360 #2
April 2007 - October 2007
You Will Be Missed

Much unlike the wanker on customer service right now who told me that, just as a service to me, he's going to extend my warranty to three years from the first date of purchase (April 2006).

So, right now I'm on hold because I explained to him that I was aware ALL 360 warranties are three years from the date of purchase, so he wasn't really giving me anything. Wonder what kinda bullshit he'll come back on the phone with.

EDIT: Talked him into a one month XBL extension and he offered me a free game (PGR3).
Will I lose my downloaded content and games if they give me a different console than the one I sent to them?
gahhh.. people.. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!

NO. You will NOT lose them. But you MUST be signed in to XBox Live to use it.

Well I haven't got the red rings of death again(yet) but now when I load up the console the game freezes. Then when I reset it, it works fine.

I just did try searching now and could not find a thread with info related to my question. I though XBLA games were tied to each console, so does MS switch your console info onto the new console they give you?

Dropped my first coffin off at UPS today. As others have reported eariler, the clerk immediately recognized the box.

At least MS got it to me quickly, just four days after I did the repair request on their website.

Also wish they would do an express exchange program and just ship a replacement 360 from the get go. Require
a credit card to weed out the people who'd otherwise try and rip them off, and keep the existing program for people
who don't care/don't have credit cards.

XBox Marketplace content (this includes videos, themes, gamer pics, in-game content, XBLA games, etc.) are tied to both the console and the gamertag that they are downloaded from. The two are interchangeable, as you will have access to your content as long as you have access to one or the other. In the event that Microsoft replaces your console (or if you buy another), you will (or at least should) still have access to your gamertag, giving you access to your content as well.

To play XBLA games, you MUST be signed into Xbox Live if you do not have your original console.

Sheesh. Can we please add that to the OP?

Yaay! , My 360 went from breaking 6 times to 7 times tonight. I never seen such a faulty product in my life. I swear this is just retarted.

This may have been answered here previously, but I couldn't find anything when i searched.

My 360 RRoDed on me last week, so I called in MS for a coffin. I did the towel trick to get by the 4-5 days that it took to receive the box. My console is working without any probs ever since.

Now should I wait till I get the angry red eye or send my box as it it.. or should i let it overheat before i send it in. I really wanna get my xbox back before Assasins Creed comes out.

I'd hang on to the box and send in your 360 when it red rings again. You know it's only a matter of time. I read in this thread that they keep your trouble ticket open for 30 days.

I am kind of same possesion as you now. I had my 360 laying on my bed for like 2 hours plugged it in now it is working again. What a load of crap this thing is. Wups spoke to soon. When I tried putting in a game it crashed on me. It is loading but, crashing everytime I start something.

Does that mean the UPS label lasts for a month?

Don't blame Microsoft. Blame everyone that would cheat the system if they didn't have DRM on their content.

so my friend's 360 wont read CDs/DVDs. i call MS to see what they can do and they are like if its still in warranty they will repair if not it will $99. since i stated i was doin this for my friend they said id have to get him to call in, and since it wasnt registered. i did all the registering for him last nite and see he still has a warranty till the end of next month. i wonder if they will try to fix the 360 or just give him a new one.

any feedback on pplz getting there DVD drives fixed?

i been trying to do the repair thing thru the website but keep getting a error. guess i will have to call them again. ehhh here comes the long hold times. =(

There could've been a better system put in place then requiring people to be signed onto xbox live to play xbla games. Are xbla games are the only content requiring being signed onto live if you get a new console? Everything else, including DLC you don't need to be signed onto live, just need your gamertag?

Well it's official, the red lights came on again. This is getting really freaking ridiculous that I've gone through two consoles in two years.

Seconded, QFT, etc. MS knows the serial of the defective console, the new one, the gamertag, what's on the drive. This should all be seamless and done in the background by them.

I checked the FAQ, but Linkin deleted that...

So I'm just going to post in here. (I thumbed through a few pages, and didn't see much in way of an answer I was looking for.)

My 360 just bit the dust. I don't have a warranty or a proof of purchase. (I bought it at launch.)

What can I do?

Assuming yours has the RROD, you should be able to call MS and get the ball rolling on the refurb/replacement process.

If it's just freezing or something else, I'm not sure whether or not it's covered under the warranty.

Either way, 1-800-4MY-XBOX is the way to go.

You should still be under warranty - it was extended to three years, which I think covers launch systems.

You guys are right.

I called, and it's all taken care of.

I honestly thought my 360 would never die. :[

It's a matter of when, not if, but you've had yours since launch.. I thought yours would last forever since it's made it this far. If it was going to break, it already should've. Good that you got it taken care of, though. See you in a month

A MONTH!?

Thank fuck I downloaded that Oblivion content right before it took a shit on me.
