I imagine some of the people 'hating' on Destiny are people who played - I played almost compulsively for several months, stopped at Light LVL 29.  Destiny has great shooting mechanics, it's pretty much everything else generating the concerns:

1) For the time-sink required, content is sparse, particularly on XB1, even with the DLC.  You will play the same thing over and over and over and over (x100+).

2) Some people early on exploited the loot system with Treasure Caves, thereby giving themselves at least somewhat of an advantage in Crucible

3) Enagrams would give you lower tier stuff than how it was rated - i.e. find an exotic item, only to have it downgraded to rare (later addressed)

4) Caps on how many marks you could earn per week, with most/all? the items you'd need more expensive than the limit (i.e. you need 175 marks to buy a pair of boots - but you can only earn 100 per week.  You also need armor and gloves.).

5) No matchmaking (later addressed)

6) Upgrading weapons with materials was quite a grind, you'd have to run around the planets looking for them (one of them was hard to see - Relic Stones?)

This is just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are other concerns.  I'm not excited about the Red Bull promo, the continued PS4 exclusive content (particularly when there isn't that much to begin with), and how early adopters of the DLC are getting screwed with the having to re-buy the same content to get the exclusive stuff with Taken King (or spend an extra $20).

With Destiny, as long as you're enjoying the game, great.  When you notice yourself hate-playing or feeling like it's monotonous, that's the time to walk away.

just want to throw in my 2cents since i can't seem to fall asleep lol.

Destiny was a lot of fun. I stopped when I got 2 characters to lvl 32 and began a 3rd character before i said wtf am i doing lol I had a group of 6-8 friends and we played a pretty good amount. The raids were great and the missions were fun the first play through. Crucible was competitive, and I loved playing Rumble. I would play crucible the majority of the time instead of grinding and then I finally said... im out.

There is no story, nothing really makes sense. Don't bother trying to understand. You will replay every mission a million times and you will lie to yourself imaging that you will get an exotic something when you finish the mission. You will feel as if you are at work after you play x amount of hours.

My advice, just know that you will most likely love it at first and then realize what garbage you convinced yourself to enjoy.

This game did not live up to 1/100th of the hype. It seems as if this game is a perfect example of what these big games have become. Over HYPE! release an unfinished game (or perfect if you compare it to Halo MCC's release lol). Strip content from the game and sell it as DLC. and something I didn't expect. Repackage it all and sell it again as if it is new... again. lol

Your time is valuable. Go buy an SNES and play Maximum Carnage instead. Download SMS bomber and mess with your friends. Go to Publix, Gatorade is BOGO this week, buy a chicken tender sub, and order things you do not need on amazon. These are just some great ideas i thought up lol.

The console does look nice tho.

I've been playing since launch and I still love it. If you have played any mmo you know there is a grind and that's fine with me. Yea it doesn't have the same amount of content as the big mmo titles but it also doesn't have a monthly sub. I have gotten my money's worth out of it and still continue to play. The memories I have created with the friends I have made from playing are great and we continue to make new ones and even funnier ones. If you have friends to play with the game is great. Mechanics are solid and although it can be frustrating at times it can be a real joy plenty of others.

How else am I supposed to hoard a bunch of games that I'll never play?
You sound like a lot of people I know with Steam. Lol

That console looks pretty, but I am so over Destiny.
So am I. Bought the LE, played it for about a week and haven't touched it since. I shouldn't have redeemed the codes for the expansions since I never played them. Such a chopped up game. This franchise is not getting a dime from me anymore.

Agree 100%. I'm not sure where some are getting the idea that people are hating because "it's the cool thing to do" or "they never played". Destiny was super hyped up and sold tons of copies when it came out. I remember how busy this thread was when it came out and all the people scrambling for collector editions and worrying about damaged packaging. It was all the rage on this site when it came out. Many people bought the game and were understandably disappointed that it didn't deliver what was expected. People have legitimate reasons for complaining.

I played it a lot for the first 3-4 weeks or so before trading it in. The story was a joke and the grind for loot became very repetitive once I finished the story. The loot was also not very interesting or unique imo. PVP was pretty good besides annoying Super moves and random loot distribution. The gunplay and movement was the best part of this game imo and all the other problems I had with it could be fixed and maybe they have improved, but I can't say since I haven't played since last Fall. I know a lot of people are addicted to it still, but I don't get it. Only game I have ever been addicted to was WoW and Destiny doesn't compare at all to that addiction.

Exactly my point.  Most of these people with Destiny opinions aren't people who spent a bunch of time with Vault of Glass hard mode, spent time in Crota's End, played weeks of Iron Banner, nor worked on flawless Trials of Osiris.

So many detailed opinions from people who never liked the game nor completed any of the meaningful content.   It's like criticizing Battlefield games because of their campaigns.

Destiny has its many flaws, which any veteran player will tell you.  But I can't think of a single other game in my long history of gaming that has given me more hours of entertainment per dollar spent.  So constantly hearing about the terrible value from purchasing the game gets a snicker from many of us.

I'm basically over the game now but that point still stands.

The problem most people had with the game, including myself, was the boring repetitiveness of it. A couple pieces of DLC in the last 9-10 months doesn't fix that issue. I don't need to spend a bunch of time playing them to know that. It's cool if you like the game and spent a lot of time playing it, that's great. Others had a different experience with different opinions and they are valid too.

Anyway, back on topic. The LE console looks cool. If I was still into Destiny, I would be tempted to trade/sell my current PS4 and get one. White/gold is a great color combo. I'm still hoping they announce some special edition Star Wars console or at least a real Battlefront collector edition.

I don't know if this has already been posted but zero escape 3 has been listed on amazon with a watch bonus LE to preorder. the watch is a preorder bonus and if it goes anything like the first two games in the series will be worth more than the game. So if you want one you will want to preoreder even if you don't currently own one of the systems.

Both platforms are now showing as currently unavailable.

Was able to preorder for 3ds as you posted this. Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about that too much. This game is a long way off and the same thing happened last time where it went out of stock almost immediately because people thought the watch was going to be of the same quality as the one they gave with the first game. I'm sure this will be a flimsy plastic watch like they packed in with the second game and that popped up again for preorders for a while before release.

Does anyone else have a pending charge on their CC for Mighty No 9 Signature Ed from BBY? I placed the order back in June 17th, and the pending charge just showed up again this past Sunday for some reason.

Kinda annoying b/c it's my bank card and that money is now locked, even though BBY already did an authorization charge back when I initially ordered and the game's more than a month away from release.

Thanks for the reminder, I just sent a cancellation email to Squenix.

EDIT: Got an email less than ten minutes later saying that the order was cancelled. That was definitely easier than in the past.

Yeah, way better than the Digital River days. I remember the time when I cancelled an order with them (it was either Namco, or Capcom store) a month before, they confirmed it was cancelled the following day, and then shipped the order/charged me anyway a few days after release. Took me by surprise when I got the box, saw the money gone from my account and they wouldn't take any responsibility over it. I had to pay return shipping (it was a statue I believe) and when they refunded me, they didn't refund the original shipping costs. In total, I lost $45 b/c of those assholes. Such a shit company... so glad Namco and SE dropped their worthless asses.

I don't understand why anyone bothers to upgrade the HDD's in either the XOne or PS4. Just delete stuff you aren't playing. I never have more than 10 things installed (at least 3 or so are disk installs and the rest are digital purchases) and I'm never more than 60% full on the 500GB HDD's in them.

Even throwing a 3TB drive in them, you'll still probably end up filling it up if you want to keep everything you own installed. Save the money and just delete stuff you don't play. Easy peasy.

If I was going to upgrade either, it'd by for my PS4 most likely since I scoff at the thought of having an external drive tethered to my XOne.
I feel 100% the exact opposite. For the life of me, I can't understand why people wouldn't update to a nice size HD when your talking about such a piddly amount of money. This isn't 2000, when external HD's used to cost a fortune. External hard drives are ridiculously dirt cheap now. Basically, once your past 1 TB on an external drive, each additional tb winds up costing like $25 bucks more, if that. I have 3 people in my house that actively play games and I myself love to jump around and go back and replay a lot of old games I enjoyed. No way am I going to waste my time re-downloading games, updates, patches etc. or make my wife or son do the same each time anyone feels like replaying a game. Its not even remotely worth the time that would take when compared to the ridiculously cheap price of external HD's. Not even close. there is a difference between being smart with your money and being a total cheapskate. Having a small HD in next gen consoles, especially if you actively download movies and tv shows, is being a cheapskate in my book.

Again, Its just too small amount of money to even begin to question buying an external. In fact, It was MS's announcement that they would be allowing external storage on the Xbox One that made me decide to buy an Xbox One and I knew at that moment that I would be buying a big external HD for it, so I wouldn't have to go through the crap I have gone through on my past consoles, particularly my Xbox 360. Storage has been a nightmare on my 360 for the last 3-4 years. I have more flash drives than people on here would believe, lol. Not a chance in hell I was going to go through that crap again so I purchased a 6 TB Lacie drive right out of the gate and thus far, its been a beautiful thing. I buy a lot of content (games, movies, tv show's etc) so I expect I will probably need to buy a 2nd drive a couple years down the road. I already have close to 3 tb full at the moment.

That being said, there are gamers out there that only play a couple games at a time and then sell those games when they are done and never play them again. Clearly those kinds of gamers could get by on a 500GB drive if they were so inclined, and didn't watch a lot of movies/tv shows. If those gamers want to squeak by with a small HD then all the power to them, but for those people to criticize other gamers for upgrading to larger HD's....well, that really is laughable at best.

As for all of the Destiny talk, I purchased Destiny for one reason, because Bungie stated it would have a story that was on par with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Considering I value a quality story above all else in gaming and considering I throughly enjoyed Halo and respected Bungie, I figured Destiny would be amazing. Boy was I wrong. Easily one of the most disappointing titles I have ever played. Its story was a joke, on par with a really bad Asylum film. On par with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, lol. that's the last time I ever drink the Bungie Kool-Aid.

I purchased the Ghost Edition (see? still on topic!) of Destiny because I love CEs and I love Bungie. I still play Destiny occasionally though I just finally finished my first raid last night (can never get enough people on it seems) and the game is ok for what it is in my opinion (its a loot-grinding mmo), but I couldn't possibly agree with you more on the "story" fail. I literally had a facepalm-are-you-kidding-me moment or two when doing the story and even with having to piece things together through the grimoire cards, the story was (and still is) so pathetically pitiful that its beyond cringe-worthy. I guess "fanboys" and such cling to the "Bungie plans on telling the story over 10 years of promised support" as meaning it'll eventually have a good story, but I don't think I'm up for buying everything over again another 18x before I get some worthwhile lore and story. Guess we'll see though.

Seriously? The market for $400 SE for a singular game would be so small it's not even worth exploring. Let alone publishers attempting to forecast sales within any reasonable deviation. There is no retailer market for this. We're talking a fraction of 1% of people that are buying the game. Not to mention publishers wouldn't want to deal with finicky collectors and carefully shipping their high end products which requires an entire customer service and returns department in itself.

That's why these high end collectable companies like Sideshow exist. They are able to specialize in servicing you. What's the issue dude? You are able to buy your Mass Effect guns on the aftermarket then. Selling expensive SEs is simply not profitable for game publishers and that's why they don't do it. It's as simple as that. You're not going to win the argument that this is something big publishers should be doing, because it isn't.
Well first off, I am not satisfied with the amount of high end collectibles being produced, particularly when it comes to replica weapons and quality art books. I would LOVE to have more companies producing more high end replica's and high end special editions, which could be released in relatively small numbers (at least compared to regular SE's), are a perfect way for that to happen. As for what your sayings, I am not buying it for a second because everything we have been seeing these last few years says the exact opposite. Prices of special editions have been consistently rising, as have the value of the collectibles contained within. As another poster mentioned, one that actually understood what I have been saying I might add, the $400 Claptrap special edition sold out so CLEARLY there is a market for high priced, higher valued SE's. The market has absolutely proven that.

And I am not talking about releasing $400 special edition's with every game that gets released, but developers could absolutely do so for the big games like Mass Effect, Borderlands, etc. If EA hired Triforce to produce a high end hand gun replica (One on par with the ones I was talking about) for the Mass Effect Andromeda game and released it in a $400 to $500 special edition that was limited to a couple thousand copies, I guarantee with 100% certainty that it would sell out and sell out fast. If you believe otherwise then I hate to say it, but you don't understand the collectible markets nearly as well as you think you do.

Actually everything you have said in this post clearly shows you don't understand the high end collectible market at all. More and more companies are producing higher quality collectibles so the demand is absolutely there, as long as its done with the right games and the collectibles are actually worth the price. Again to suggest otherwise, especially given everything we have seen the last couple of years in both the high end collectibles markets and the special edition game markets, just shows your either not paying attention or just don't understand the market very well at all.

Yeah, as I said, I enjoy a quality story above everything else in gaming, but I am not willing to wait 10 years and spend hundreds of dollars on various sequels to actually get me to that point. If the game can't capture my attention and imagination in the first game, it doesn't deserve any more of my money or attention.

I honestly hope that Destiny does wind up eventually having a great story, for the sake of the people that do enjoy the game. I certainly get no pleasure from seeing people spend their hard earned money on junk. that being said, regardless of what happens at this point, I won't be a part of it. I don't buy for a second that the people at Bungie believed they had a story on par with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. they blatantly lied to sell more copies and for that, Bungie has lost my respect and my gaming dollars.

You could join the CAG clan if youre on the ps4 and have people to play with every day

I think Destiny's fatal flaw was that it tried to be everything to everyone.  It was touted as the next coming of Halo, but better:  An epic-post-apocalyptic-space-opera-shooter-MMO.  Become Legend!  And it failed in living up to that.  If you were looking for a shooter, it was too grindy.  If you were looking for an MMO, it was short on content and where were the social aspects?  If you were looking for an epic post apocalyptic space opera, where the heck was the story?  With all the hype, there were a lot of people who just wanted to throw themselves into this game, and they did.  And after a while they came to realize it didn't deliver on all of those aspects as well as the best games in each of those individual genres did, so they were mad.  I think all of those perspectives are valid.  And I think you have to understand those perspectives when you take into account the complaining people do about the game.

But, if you're like me and more casual, or you're the type of person who wasn't on board for the hype (and frankly, if you haven't purchased it yet, you weren't on board for the hype) it might be worth checking out for you.  Its not a bad game.  Even most of its detractors will admit that the gunplay is good.  And if you don't spend all of your gaming time each day playing it - or you don't have a lot of gaming time - you probably won't get burned out on it.  Personally, I come back and play it a few times a week and I enjoy it.  I'm a slow-poke on reaching max light, no doubt, but eventually I get there and it hasn't affected my enjoyment negatively.  So if you're that type of gamer too, it might be worth a look.

The only thing I, personally, think is truly off-putting is the way they've packaged the Collector's Edition content for the Taken King (to bring this post back to semi-relevance).  I think its a great deal for a newbie to the franchise, but its a slap in the face to essentially force veterans and long time supporters to buy content they already own if they want a CE.  The "buy digital extras for $20" solution is overpriced, but it also doesn't do anything for people who like physical CEs, and I don't know why they haven't addressed that.  I think it could be easily solved by just releasing a less expensive Veteran's Edition Collector's Edition that doesn't include the base game or the already released expansions.  I can't fathom why they wouldn't do that, other than arrogance.

Anyway, that's my take.

TL;DR: Is Destiny a disappointment to a lot of folks?  Yes, and I think its fair to call it a disappointment.  Is it a bad game?  I don't think that's fair to say.  Is now a good time to get on board if you haven't been before?  Yes, once Taken King comes out. (Or earlier if you go digital).  Are veterans getting the shaft in the CE department?  Yes, and its BS.

lots of words
After your two essays, it is clear that your main concern is the aftermarket value of your collectables. That about sums things up and we really don't have much else to discuss. You also conveniently ignore clarifications in my follow-up post.

You're the one with no understanding of buying and selling high end collectables. Bc if you did you'd understand that the Claptrap editions are selling at the break even point for sellers and were available many different times after release for cost. Your collectables are only worth what you can sell them for and you obviously haven't completed many sales bc you don't understand the fee system. You're basically just complaining that their aren't more collectables for you flip.

There is not a viable market for $400 special editions or else the publishers would be selling them. It's not profitable for them. You've created some imaginary problem that doesn't exist. So get over it.

Also, are you lost? Do you know where you are?

I don't know if this has already been posted but zero escape 3 has been listed on amazon with a watch bonus LE to preorder. the watch is a preorder bonus and if it goes anything like the first two games in the series will be worth more than the game. So if you want one you will want to preoreder even if you don't currently own one of the systems.
i'm glad i placed pre order. its now unavailable.

It sold out so fast....hopefully it pops up again or somewhere else. I remember Zero Escape came back right around launch with the watches right from Aksys I believe.

He's in the Collector's Edition thread, so he's clearly in the right place. I also don't think he's worried about the resale value of his toys but if he is who cares?

Also, it's collectibles. :D

Well that's the last time I blindly trust Chrome for word spellings. :)
That's interesting that Google's Chrome would choose to use that spelling as the "correct" form. There was a quasi-anecdotal "research" (ngram viewer) done that showed the usage of each term across the years and such and while "collectable" seems to have been in the lead for years, "collectible" seems to have taken a sharp lead since the 1890s. I used to be under the impression that "collectable" was always describing the "collect-ability" of something whereas "collectible" was the noun, but I changed my mind when I saw a store called "collectable collectibles" at a Flea Market and looked it up after to try and support my claim.

To avoid the clutter, I'll just link the one article I saw mentioning the graphs and such HERE

does that make people who collect "Collectable Collectibles Collectors" lol

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. That about sums that up and your right, we really don't have anything else to discuss. On that we can definitely agree.

I disagree. I definitely consider Destiny to be a bad game. Just because a game has solid shooting mechanics doesn't excuse all of the other problems. I could see feeling that way if your a HUGE fan of online shooters, but for everyone else, it's just a HUGE fail across the board. Either way, I definitely consider it a bad game and also one of the most disappointing games I have ever played.

Redundant

That's why he said, "I consider"

Tales of Zesteria CE on GS.com only. Can do a Web-In-Store preorder & be charged immediately but once again another CE that has to be done through the website only.

Really irks me as I would like to have an in store preorder so I could treat it as layaway & also use PUR certificates at pickup.

Also BB can't be trusted for game CE preorders & I don't have a CC so I can't have rolling charges on my debit card.

Zero Escape 3, 3DS LE version just came back in stock with the watch. Still same price as the regular version.

Ew. I hate that Gamestop seems to be doing Web In Store so much now. I liked being able to pre-order Consoles/CE/LE's with some safety, but not when I have to pay the full price up front months in advance.

I get most of mine from Amazon or straight from the releasers site now. (Like with Iffy and NISA)

And thanks tinypoem. Ordered incase I can't get the Vita version with the watch.

Dammit... I just found out it was announced and didn't even realize an LE was announced.

Is Amazon the only play to have it up so far? Any other confirmed retailers who'll list the LE?
