I went for the Special Edition through Best Buy.  My GCU ends the month before, so hopefully paying in full with Paypal secures my discount.  Without the GCU discount, I think I would have opted for just the standard edition - 20 more for a slipcase, map,  and some dlc wouldn't seem worth it to me.  The steelbook does look great, but 20 more than the special edition (36 more with GCU) is too steep imo.  

 
Gonna go with the Collector's Box once they announce which retailers will have it plus ultimate edition. These games only come around every 10 years it seems like so IDC about dropping a lot on them.

Sigh, GS exclusive is confirmed? fuck I hate that company. . .

Same. $36 more + shipping + I can't use a $10 certificate. Too much for a steelbook and some online bs.

 
So basically they're charging $40 extra for a steelbook? With shipping and tax, it'll come to almost $115. Way too much.

Yeah, I typically will just splurge in these instances but I bet I could get the SB on ebay for less than the 60 bucks it would cost with the ultimate edition. Dat Black Dappled Thoroughbred tho...

Yeah, I wanna get an order in case it sells out and I end up wanting it. Reminds me of the lock box CE they had for GTA IV that was pretty legit. Considering these games come out only so often, I guess that's the only way I can justify it heh.

The SB is only available through Gamestop (Ultimate edition). The Ultimate edition I can see selling out. GTA V had a similar CE release. iirc the special edition wasn't hard to find but the collector edition that was Gamestop exclusive eventually sold out through preorders and was hard to find again.
 
I believe they charge when it ships. I cannot recall with complete certainty, but I believe they may place a hold charge at time of initial pre-order.

Trying to do an in-store pickup for RDR, but it keeps erroring out. Might just toss up an order in case it sells out before I can get to a store this week.

You have to keep track of your trade credit since they don't charge until it ships. I did this once and thought it was charged immediately and used my credit until it was all gone but my preorder got held up on the date of shipment for ISF.

I doubt the Ultimate edition sells out soon. Will be interesting if that collector box is limited though since there's no game. The items are pretty nice imo.

Really upsetting. The special edition of RDR looks...less than stellar. Definitely not worth $20 extra. I really want the steelbook but I'm definitely not paying an extra almost $60 (with GCU) for it. Guess I'm ordering the regular edition. More money saved for me to buy KH3 and whatever other big releases may come out this year
 
Yea I am having second thoughts about spending $100 on that Gamestop Edition for RDR.  I just don't know if all the extra shit and a Steelbook is worth the price.

 
I want that steelbook for RDR2 but if it means I have to deal with Gamestop I'll pass.  I would rather pick one up off of ebay from the hundreds listings that will pop up.

 
I'm just gonna say this as a avid fan of R* games.

Rockstar doesn't make alot of steelbooks for their games and RDR is their 2nd most popular franchise right now.

If you want it, better pre order it now cause I can guarantee you it's gonna be difficult to find later.

I remember when GTA V cane out, trying to find one of those Collector's Editions was a bitch and a half. Luckily I found one cancelled pre-order at a local Gamestop. I made sure to lock in an order for RDR UE this time, not missing the boat on that shit.

Tried to pre-order the ultimate CE in-store yesterday and the guy said the sku was too new and couldn't yet. Sigh, this is why I hate having to pre-order at GS; always a hassle.

BTW, if you were planning to get just the collector's box from GS and get the base game elsewhere, guess again. That was the whole issue: they don't have separate skus for just the box with no game, you have to order a bundle with either the core, SE, or UE included. That's the only way to order the box edition AFAIK.

That's lame. I was able to preorder UE in store yesterday. I think you can order collectors box separately on GS site/app.

I was able to switch my pre-order over to the ultimate edition, tho I had to show them to scroll down on the list lol the ones on the top are the new bundles with the collector's box.

For store pickup, you are NOT charged until you pick up the game. Not sure about shipping but I think someone said you are not charged until the game ships, but there will be a temp hold on the car for verification.

Yeah, so I got my "pre-order" in without entering anything other than a store location. I thought I was choosing a store to order at and before I knew it: YOUR RESERVATION HAS BEEN MADE FOR THIS STORE. Apparently I'll have 48 hours to pick it up once it releases or they'll charge me $5 for shipping as a no-show. JFC this company has the worst pre-order system I've ever seen. With no money down, it's just odd to me that this isn't more than a glorified wait list but we'll see I suppose.

I ordered a couple copies in case my buddies want one. fuck paying a restock. I'm gonna go down to the store this weekend and see if I can reserve in person. Online is basically a backup plan in case they sell out quick. If I can snag them there, I will just cancel my order online.
