Well, if I misread your statement, I apologize and if some only care about collecting something because it is limited, then maybe some do care about that. I do stand by that many bought this to scalp and some maybe bought it because they wanted something "limited" but also many bought it just for the love of the series.
Yes I do agree many bought to scalp which if SE wants to retroactively cancel all order more than 1. It would be a good move. I'd even be ok if they just added maybe 5000 more, but if they added 30k more. I think many people who preordered not for the sake of scalping would also be disappointed. Not to mention it hurts the companies credibility in the future if they want to hype something else up.

This thread has been close to the top, if not at the top all morning and afternoon and I keep coming in thinking someone has posted that Dark Souls III Collectors Edition pre-order is available again at Best Buy or Amazon.  Shame on me.

Wait till next week when the game releases

Yeah but you know how this goes Cloud. CE's that are sold out tend to come back in stock from pre-order the week before.

Any ways, I have no deals to contribute but if anyone is interested Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Libertalia Collector's Edition is sold out at Amazon.com but still in stock at Best Buy and Gamestop so I guess for those who haven't already pre-ordered now maybe a good time to do so.....maybe.

It's usually day before or day of release.

I do hope they make more cause I just want 1 for retail. Maybe 30,000 was a high number but I truthfully wouldn't care because it definitely looks like it's worth the $270 price tag. Many were able to order more than 1 and I understand that some just want 1 to open and 1 to keep sealed but I think 1 should have been the limit. Many companies limit 1 as a limit on items that were produced 3 times in higher quantities, so something like this should have been limited to 1 imo.

Regardless if they made more or not, SE will definitely make more available by canceling abusive orders. After today's statements, they pretty much have to do that. I'd just check for news everyday if I were you.

I remember when Batman Arkham Knight CE was sold out on Amazon for a long time but after release, they were available everywhere. The Dark Souls 2 CE was like this also but after release, it plummeted in price to around $30. Just be patient

That's why I only ordered one. Concerned they would cancel all orders of people who ordered more than one, not just the extras. I have to admit, that would be pretty funny to see the people who ordered more than one lose out entirely. The amount of raging going on would be good theater for days.

Like stated, this could have been avoided by limited one per order or shipping address. It would have sold out quickly regardless, there was nothing to lose by doing that.

Especially those that ordered more than one because for some reason they didn't know which platform the first order was for. I don't know how the order process was for this game, but that just sounds silly to me.

There were no order limits stated on the website or the item page.   They hoped people might order multiples so it would sell out.  Otherwise an ordering limit would have been put in place.  Cancelling any orders would be disingenuous.

All of these reports and company statements are simply PR responses to the quick sellout.

Either that or they just flat out goofed. I've learned many times over that just because people are "professionals" doesn't absolve them of being idiots or doing really dumb things. Logic would tell you, it would sell out quickly no matter what. Even at one per order, it would have taken no more than 24 hours to sell out and probably less.

But still, you might be right. It would be kind of a dick move to not limit orders and then screw people by cancelling it, but at the same time you have to admit, it would be funny seeing those people rage over it.

Eh I don't know about that, had these been distributed through other retailers like Bestbuy or Amazon, then there's nothing they can do. But since it's sold through their own stores, they have the power to cancel orders. I remember when the Pipboy was sold out, Pete Hines said the same thing on twitter about working with retailers to cancel excessive orders. Now that never happened since they have no control over other retailers. But I saw reports that Bethesda store did cancel all orders past qty of 2.

That was one of the things I never got at the time. It clearly stated the platform next to the item. Not sure why people were so suspicious about that...

Yeah that's one of those things you don't really understand until you start to work with C-level execs regularly and you find out they do totally inane stuff just like everyone else! Problem is that since they are at the top they are even less likely to listen to anyone telling them it's wrong.

I'm waiting to see the Add to Cart message and get to the final page before finally making up my mind on the Might-As-Well-Be $300 Super Ultra Mega 15 edition. Star Ocean could've EASILY been $100. Everything in there is basically core items you'd expect out of any $100 CE. The extra 10 is them skimming off the top because they feel like it. I really want their pricing team to get fired.

Wow, seriously? Didn't know that... figured there was a limit of some kind. Super dumb.

Hopefully they do something about it... not sure make more but also cancel all quantities above 1 or 2. Better yet, if they actually wanna punish scalpers, anyone who ordered a lot of copies... like say more than 5, should have all of their order cancelled.

They're just CEs dude. You don't have to have them. It's completely optional and they're made for the super fans. It's not that big of a deal. If it's not close to worth $110 to you then it wasn't worth $100 either. Just pass on it and get the normal version.

Whatever you do, don't wait on buying the Star Ocean CE and then get stressed out when it actually does sell out. That's always a mistake. You can always cancel your order later.

Saw people on some other forums claiming they ordered 15-20 FFXV UCE's. Could have been lying/trolling, but when you advertise 30k worldwide, and don't limit orders, you have to know this is exactly what you are going to get.

Wouldn't take the chance on the Star Ocean CE. I have a pretty good feeling that will be on sale some time after launch. Same thing happened with their Dragon Quest CE. Although, I don't feel as bad for pre-ordering that, since the franchise needs some help in the West.

its gonna be pretty funny / sad / somelong-german-word-that-perfectly-captures-the-emotion on ebay when the people who ordered multiples get their orders cancelled, and they have already sold to people on eBay. when the CE is actually released in six months, the buyers will not be able to dispute it so the sellers will have made off with thousands of dollars.

every CE like this is always a clusterfuck, don't really understand why companies simply don't open orders for 7 days straight, charge at order time, and announce ahead of time they will take all orders and make as many units as there is demand.

Maybe that is a startup just waiting to be made, Collectors.com it'll be worth billions!!

I ordered another after my 1st order wasn't showing up, and no conf email.

Only my first order showed up so I think they are trolling.

While I agree with you in concept, it wouldn't work from the practical perspecitve. For something like this, unfortunately, the supply chain can take up to a year or more depending on the complexity of individual components. I doubt many collectors are willing to have hundreds of dollars tied up for 6-12 months and I doubt most publishers would want to take the risk if a game doesn't hit the release date or there is some other failure along the way that causes the CE to be not as advertised (I'm thinking something like the Arkham Batmobile, etc...). I do, however, think they could collect a deposit and limit quantities which would eliminate a lot of the scalping.

Well I guess adding 3000 additional units won't make much difference in people's minds in terms of collectability. As long as SE doesn't go crazy and turn 30k into like 60k but I doubt that'll happen anyways. Since I heard that the original reason SE came up with the 30k figure was the Noctis figure production can only be capped at 30k as the factory had other projects to work on. I guess at most they'll be able to squeeze out maybe another 5000 units.
So when this sells out and I make a comment that eventually the 3rd party (i.e. resale price) will die down long term (post release) people comment that I don't understand the wide appeal of Final Fantasy and that they have supreme fans who will dish out that type of money despite their not being a lot of exclusive content to justify the high price.

So what is it?

Because if they have super fans and this is a great value with a OMG pack in toy (which is going to be sold as a stand alone item sans "exclusive weapon") then an extra 10,000 units wouldn't hurt collectibility...

UNLESS like with beanie babies, everyone who bought one initially is a neck beard that plans on NEVER opening it. So if out of 30,000 units 27,000 remain unopened in five years it's going to hurt the resale market.

You can't have it both ways. You can't claim that there is HUGE demand for a HUGELY popular franchise with a CE that sells out in an hour and then be OUTRAGED if they up production numbers by 50% or God forbid, cancel order quantities greater then two (despite everyone chiming in with the *derp* I bought 8 for family members, poor me *derp* routine).

If what you were initially was claiming was true, then an extra 10-20,000 units would still sell out quickly. The only reason to be upset is because it might hurt your PayPal account when it came time to inevitability put it up on eBay.

Maybe, but the contents of Star Ocean's CE are far superior IMO. What did the DQ have again? A plush doll and a lanyard and keychain that look the quality of something you'd get in one of those arcade grabber machines. Maybe people just didn't think the contents were worth it, but much more people are into steelbooks and artbooks.

As always, if you think you will regret it if it sells out, put down a pre-order. It's better to order and decide later you don't want it, than to not and decide you do. The former is a much easier "mess" to clean up, because the latter always means overpaying to get a copy, which always sucks.

It still going to be hard to get one if they even produce the same amount. Might be tougher since everyone will be well aware of it now since I would assume they will announce a date also. That is if they decide to do it, they could always come back and say unfortunately that is it.

They can also make another edition that includes everything but the figure. I would cancel and get that instead.

How do you sell a pre order on ebay? Just change the shipping address?
Some sites don't let you change the shipping address very easily. You might not get release date if you do that. Ebay doesn't let you sell a preorder if you don't ship it within 30 days of the auction ending.

Best way is to get the item and ship it to the customer. If the buyer backs out for some reason and you have their shipping address on the item, it might ship to them and you are SOL!

Went to Gamestop for the first time in well over a year today. To get the Quantum Break steelbook.

Now to return the game in a week and keep the steelbook, since it isn't on the receipt. Call it payback for selling me countless gutted copies as "new" over the years.

Really nice steelbook btw.

Lol, same here! It's kinda like when you stop eating fast food for six months and when you go back to McDonalds you can't believe someone would serve food that disgusting. Then you still order a number 1.

I really can't stand going in those places anymore. Hopefully there aren't any store exclusive steelbooks coming anytime soon from them.

Nothing is going to be the DS2 CE except the DS2 CE.  Stop with this false, presumptive, speculative analogy when it comes to every other collector's edition.

"Is it going to be like the DS2 CE?" or "It's going to be like the DS2 CE." people ask or state about every single CE on here.  No, it's not.  Not now.  Not ever.

I ordered another after my 1st order wasn't showing up, and no conf email.

Only my first order showed up so I think they are trolling.
Same although oddly enough it was my 2nd order that popped up not my 1st order. So I'm glad I did the second order. If I happen to get shipped both orders though I'll probably sell it to a fellow CAG collector that missed out.

I think the Dark Souls II CE will always be the poster boy for why not to overproduce CES to gaming companies.

Anyone else notice the picture for the DS3 CE is different on Amazon than both Darksouls3.com/preorder and Best Buys web sites? The Art book is smaller and the Metal case is completely different.
