Well I put about an hour and a half into it. Around one hour of that was spent trying to get the hell out of that village. Here are my thoughts.
First off, the game is great looking. Sometimes the textures look a little low res, but thats no big deal. The character models and detail are all top notch. Great stuff. Also the controls feel so much better this time around. No more grinding against walls and having the camera angle change on me where my controls go ass backwards and I keep exiting to the previous screen. Very nice.
The game sort of feels like a Tom Clancy game to me. No it's not a stealth game, or a tactical shooter. What makes it feel like a TC game is the level of awareness and the difficulty. The game is tough, but definitely paying attention to your surroundings and staying sharp will get you out of sticky situations. This is the thinking mans survival horror game. Its great because everytime you play this game, you can figure out different tactics and strategies to overcome your obsticles, like the Tom Clancy game Splinter Cell. This is definitely new to the survival horror genre.
The music kind of rips off Silent Hill a bit, but thats not a bad thing. More horror games need eerie music like this. The sound effects and everything are top notch as well. I even like the dialog quite a bit. It reminds me of those old Arnold flicks where he spouts cheesey lines, yet they rule. "where's everybody going?! Bingo?!" HA! So corny yet so so satisfying.
As I said in the other topic, this is the most intense game I have ever played. No game has made me panic as much as this one has. My heart thumps like crazy while I am playing this game. The game isn't as scary as games like Silent Hill, but yet Silent Hill games are not as frantic and give you this strong sense of panic like RE4 does. So really RE4 is kind of a new Survival Horror game. Most of the games in this genre either scare you by making things pop out and go boo, or show you sick demented shit. This game scares you by making you panic like crazy. It's great stuff.
I haven't gotten that far to really see the crazy stuff yet, but I have seem some pretty crazy stuff so far. Its cool because this game is hard but it doesn't frustrate you. You will die a lot yet you will come right back for more and have fun at each attempt. This is a rarity for video games. Its also fine to die because you die in such fashions that you will love to see your character die, it's kinda funny. So if you die, you will go "woa that was

in nuts!" rather than "aarrrrggggg *throws controller* aaaahhhh". This is also a gaming rarity.
In conclusion, this game achieves many things most games cannot. I am very suprised on how well this game came out. This is what the series really needed. I just hope future installments of the RE franchise will continue to attempt new things like Capcom did with this one, because it works and works very well.
