Official Fall 2007 Dashaboard Update Now Up - XBLA Hits, Child Accts Graduate, DivX
So what's the big deal with divx?
Because 90% of the videos downloaded off the internets are in divx format.

Now we can watch the videos on our TVs instead of out monitors very easily.
I've enabled my iPod as a storage device (disk use). Is there a correct way dropping videos onto my iPod so my 360 will recognize my ipod as a portable device in the video subsection "[X button] Change video source"?

Edit: Nevermind
Time to buy a zune :D

I'm completely baffled right now. I can't get my 360 to recognize my computer at all with WMP11, but my Media Center works fine. I found out you cannot use xvid/divx with Media Center, so I'm forced to use WMP. Lame.

I work from home, so I can't troubleshoot much because I'm using the computer for work. My 360 has detected my PC before because I've streamed music off it numerous times. I already forwarded the ports on my router and even tried it with my firewall off, yet it just won't detect it. Hopefully when I get off I can figure it out.
All of these so called "awesome" updates, just add abilities the 360 has been doing for a long time.
Really? I have never been able to view this site on a 360 but I have on a ps3. xD
I already don't like this friend of friend thing. Apparently you have NO WAY AT ALL of being hidden on your friend's list. Someone whom I didn't want knowing my tag was able to use a mutual friend to identify me. fuck you, MS.
Look harder. I saw an option to turn that off in my browsing of the new features.

In WMP, you have to check what types of media you want to stream.

It seems as though you have music checked, make sure video is checked as well.

Yea that's checked, it won't even detect my PC for music anymore.

Indeed.

I just got done watching a DVD rip of order Order of the Phoenix, it looked pretty good considering it's being stretched a little.

I noticed animation looks the best, Shippuuden looks great.

Well, this is nice...the Xbox Live, Games and Marketplace blades constantly have that loading icon and I see nothing else, even though I'm signed in.

Yes, Shippuuden looks fantastic, odd though, is that the HD video of the fourth Naruto movie wouldn't play.

I guess there are some limitations to the divx resolution now.

Live is getting hit hard today.
Live is getting hit hard today.
Yeah, I figured. I just found it odd how the actual interface won't pop up, but I'm actually signed into Live faster than before. Even the Guide pops up faster, but the blades take a while to load.

I'm glad I am away from my 360 right now. It sounds like MS still hasn't got the infrastructure to handle millions of 360s attempting to update all at once.

I am looking forward to the Divx support though. Should be hot. :)

Did you try to manually change the stretch method? According to this article, it's easy to fix in most cases.
Yea that's checked, it won't even detect my PC for music anymore.
im having the same problem. used to stream music all the time, but now it sees my computer but cant connect to it for music or video. i havent changed anything except downloading the update.

Yeah, I have it on "letterbox." It's not so much stretched but a bit little blurry, which is fine.
My marketplace, xbox live and games tab isn't loading..is this happening to everyone?
Yes, read up the page a bit. Many people are slowed to a crawl right now.

Like others, I am having problems streaming divx. The 360 recognizes my videos fine but when I try to play them it says something to the degree of "unsupported file type." I burned the the file I was trying to play (the Heroes season finale) onto a cd and it played great.

Also, is there a trick to getting the 360 to recognize a USB drive? I plugged mine in but the 360 wouldn't recognize it.

FAT32 format, not NTFS.
Before it launched, there was a way to disable it. I don't know about now, the page was removed. It makes me curious if they reset them all.
I made sure to do this ahead of time, that's not the issue. My issue is that say I am on your friend list. You have a friend that I don't like and avoid, thus I never told the person my gamertag. With the new feature, the friend of yours I don't like skims your list since you allow friends to skim your list, recognizes my tag, and proceeds to send messages and shit to me that I don't want.
Look harder. I saw an option to turn that off in my browsing of the new features.
I'll look again and see, but even if that option exists I was not given the option to turn it off beforehand, and obviously the person that found out my tag did so before I woke up this morning and updated my console, so that wouldn't have helped.

Then I guess that link I provided won't be much help. I guess they should have an option of "Show my GamerTag to my Friends only even though my Friends' List is open to everyone else".
You can change your privacy settings on the dashboard under your gamertag.
The way I understand the settings, it doesn't hide your gamertag, just info that you can view after clicking on the gamertag, or allows you to block messages, but they can still see you with this friend of friend feature.

Not sure what you mean by the bold since I already said I set the option for friend of friends to blocked.

God i'm so happy it plays Divx now. Amazing. I just wish they had done this ages ago.

Live is getting hammered though. Haven't seen it this bad since Halo 3 release day.
Not sure what you mean by the bold since I already said I set the option for friend of friends to blocked.
I'm getting confused as well just thinking about it. Perhaps I'm not understanding how this system works.

I was trying to say that the system should give you an option of keeping your GT private regardless of how your friends that have you on their list has their privacy setting set.

It's kind of like having a blocked number. Your friends may still get your number to come in complete with your name so they know who it is, but if someone picks up their phone and looks at the call list, the system should know that person is not authorized to know that is you since you're blocking everyone that is not your friend from getting your information.

*confused*

Yeah that would be great. How it works now from what I understand is setting the FoF option to blocked just means that people can't look at your personal friend list, and does nothing to block people from seeing you or your tag.

I've never been able to stream .avi files to my 360. Music and pictures work pretty well, but I can only view one particular mp4 video file. I've tried both WMP 11 and Zune and no avi files are even showing up. I go choose video, Documents and Settings and then the appropriate folders in the path. Should I even have to choose folder names? Shouldn't I just be able to stream whatever I've put into my WMP11 or Zune library? I've checkd Media sharing on both and I've set it up to share music, photos, and video....

Please help!

I've about given up on getting my 360 to detect my PC when using WMP11. What I don't get is I can use the Media Center functions fine, but when I use the video option on the media tab instead it won't detect the PC. I'm sure it isn't any router or firewall settings as I'm able to stream .wmv via Media Center, but since that won't work with xvid/divx I'm forced to use WMP11 for those.

is anyone else's box freezing when you look at friends of friends and then try to cancel out of it? happened to me twice before i said forget it and jumped back into mass effect.

wow blade switching is fast! (for now). Friend list stalking is fun :)

I was very surprised how quick the update was to download. I was seriously tempted to pull the power cord to force a bricking, but my guess is that it wouldn't have caused a RRoD when I rebooted it, just another update request.

damn it.

When you set it to blocked, it only makes it so people can't view your friends list. If they know someone who has you on their list, then they can view their list and get your gamertag that way (which is a bit of work and why would your name stick out more than any other name?)

Why does it matter anyway? Aren't you being a little vain?

at this point I have given up on streaming stuff from my noisy XP PC to my noisier 360 since both are using the only HD LCD in the house :|
I wish my 360 could read Data DVDs with AVIs on it. That's how you guys are doing it, right?
I did just that after the update. played a couple of flight of the conchords episodes off of a data dvd.
why can't you?

I thought mine froze when I first logged in and went straight into the friends list. It just lagged for like a minute. I think its part of the load everything first in the beginning thing, then after everything is fast.

Has anyone gotten Connect 360 to work with divx files? They aren't showing up for me, but playing them off a thumb drive seems to work.

The 360 they sent me in January doesn't read burned data DVD's or CD's. It'll read burned music CD's and burned movies though. I figured it'd be an even tradeoff.. i'll take a working 360 over watching episodes on a disc.

..and now i'm wanting to watch episodes of the Office that I burned to a data DVD (since season 4 won't come out for another 84 years due to the writer's strike).
