Official Fall 2007 Dashaboard Update Now Up - XBLA Hits, Child Accts Graduate, DivX

It looks great on my system. And i'm running on a normal tv, no HD or anything. Plays back just fine.

..except when I skip to the "next track", then hit rewind, it flips out. I eject and put the disc back in, select the file, and it still does it. I have to insert another disc and start another file, then insert the original disc and then it'll work. In short: Don't skip to the next track, then rewind.

But thank god it works, now I can watch old wrestling shows and cartoons without any pesky splitting/splicing/NTSC/PAL conversions. PAL/NTSC conversions were a pain in the ass, there'd always be one frame hiccup somewhere in the video that would throw the entire audio off.

Whoa ~ that's weird. I had Scrubs playing off an old data disc, started an episode, ejected it within the first two minutes -- and we're about 10 minutes in now. The disc has been out of the system for 8 minutes, and it's still playing. How the hell? I'm kinda scared.

The 360 must use a pretty damn big buffer.

Apparently. It played all the way through the end of the episode. That was crazy.

The dash update makes some things so much faster. I'm amazed at how quickly it can load up an entire 3000+ MP3s over the network from Window Media Player. The list pops right up, and scrolls nonstop from start to finish without the pauses to buffer in another chunk of parsed ID3 data.

switching around in the menus of media player would have a huge lag for me. not sure what was up. I do notice the increased speed in most things now. and the fullscreen video previews are great. I wont ever "rent" an hd movie/show though.

I'm pissed....they don't sort Movie TRAILERS by newest to the Marketplace. If you sort by Release Date, they sort by the date the movie is released.

I loved watching trailers...now I have to hunt and peck to try and remember what I saw recently....that just sucks.

At least I didn't get RRoD'd

I really like the full screen preview, shoot I even got FINGER ELEVEN: Concert in Londen which is like 60 minutes+ long in HD, and its free (not really a big fan but hey its free)

Checked out a lot of Divx and Xvid content on the system last night. I streamed it from my Vista via WMP11. Everything worked great and content looked really good. Took up the full screen which I loved. I could FF really well too. This is what I have always wanted from my game system.

I love this system update. Watched the last two Heroes and then two Friday Night Lights great update.

I love Xvid being able to put all 7 Nightmare On Elm Streets on one DVD great times.

I must be insane, but one of the things I wanted to see from the update seems to be hidden, or it is smacking me in the face.

FREE gamerpics and themes? I heard that there is a section specifically for this and I cannot fucking locate it for the god damn life of me. SO if one of you guys knows where it is for the love of god help.

I installed the update last night, and started trying some of my files from my PC with XP x64 & WMP11. I've noticed that some files with special encoding won't play and will prompt you to dl an update for the file format, and then still not work and reprompt you. I'm guessing these are recodes from other formats into .avi. Others files work fine, but I need to play with it some more. I'm hoping my larger .avi's that look better play on the 360, standard compression doesn't look too pretty on a 50" DLP. I'm really pleased about the support, it's the only way I can watch HowardTV in my living room :)

They gimped it... you can't search for free stuff in all of the sections, like All Games, it's only available in Spotlight. :bomb: Which really sucks because Spotlight doesn't list the newest stuff, and only shows four items anyway.

Edit: You know what, I think it basically took over the "Featured Downloads" section... because it's showing stuff like the Bioshock Demo.

Go to "spotlight", and then "free stuff".

It's not a full list of free gamerpics and themes, it's just 4 selected free items a day.

for those with problems with media player 11 here's a tip or 2 make sure the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is started

to get to service's goto
control panel, administrative tools, services

then goto Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service right click and click start

to get windows to automaticly do this from login goto
start, run, type msconfig

select the service tab at the top make sure the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service has a tick next to it
then apply and restart computer

figured out how to do this a while ago as my dad used to stop the upnp from working

For enabling services, it's best to go to Run: services.msc rather than msconfig. "Windows Media Player Network" should be set to Automatic.

I love this update. Everything is quicker and I can FINALLY view my videos on my tv. There was always the option to re-encode, but my puter doesn't like that and would lock up part way through the process.

I wish they would release Dexter on blu-ray though, the quality of the HD episodes I have isn't that great.

lucky me.. this update pretty much killed my struggling elite system..

My system had been acting weird freezing up lately and now it seems to red ring 3 out of 4 times when hitting the power on.

Luckily i have a back up system
I've about given up on getting my 360 to detect my PC when using WMP11. What I don't get is I can use the Media Center functions fine, but when I use the video option on the media tab instead it won't detect the PC. I'm sure it isn't any router or firewall settings as I'm able to stream .wmv via Media Center, but since that won't work with xvid/divx I'm forced to use WMP11 for those.
Same problem here. I'm stuck burning my files onto a disc until there's a fix. :(

But on the bright side, I only have to deal with the Xbox's noise, as opposed to both the Xbox and laptop.

I didn't know it worked with WMP11...last I heard streaming from PC was done through the Zune software, that's what I use ( I have a Zune also) but it works, might be worth downloading and testing it out:
http://www.zune.net/en-us/products/zunesoftware/download.htm

EDIT: Just checked its supposed to work with both WMP11 & Zune software...worth a shot.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I've mentioned it a few times, but you CAN NOT stream avi/divx/xvid with Zune software (or Media Center).
I bought Halo just to see how it works being downloaded and all. It does recognize your files if you have played the disc version.
Wow. Are you serious?

Absolutely pathetic.

I also noticed it doesn't show up under your played games on xbox.com.

Amazing.

It's possible that when they said it would work with Zune software was before the big Zune update. At that time, the Zune software was really just a re-skinned WMP11. So, if it worked with WMP11, it would have likely worked with the old Zune software.

Of course, now we have new Zune software. Hence the discord. That's my guess at least.

I did that with a couple files, but most of my stuff is over the size of a standard cd and I don't want to waste my dvd's. I'll probably get a thumb drive (hopefully that IBM 1 gb pen shows up from the free stuff forum) or I'll break out my old external hard drive and use that.
Anyone know if you can stream avi/divx/xvid with Zune software?
Yes...I did it last night...well atleast I can say it worked with avi. I don't have divx or xvid specific files at the moment....BTW, I'm using the new Zune software.

EDIT: I'll have to check the file extension I was viewing when I get home, I'm 99% sure its .avi but Zewone's comment makes me think I might be wrong.

Hmm .. I still cant seem to play anything other than wmv files. I'm using wmp11. It seems to most times just stall out after awhile if I try to navigate to a folder with avi/divx/xvid files in them and then I'll get an error message popup on my computer screen. If it does actually let me navigate into a folder and see the video files and I go to play it (and its not a wmv) the screen will go blank for a few seconds like its gonna play and then I'll get an error screen on my 360 itself saying something about how my network may not be connected or check to see I have file sharing turned on (which I do :bomb:). Any ideas whats going on? Do I just perhaps coincidentally only have xvid/divx files that require ffdshow and therefore will only work on my computer and not my 360? Or does this seem like something else?

Go into the library and CRTL-A to select everything and delete (make sure you're only removing from library and not actually deleting the files from your hard drive.) Then set which folders you want it to monitor and it should add everything again.

Also, make sure you're sharing with your 360. It should have a green checkmark like so:

No dice on that library delete thing. Just browsing into certain folders trhough my 360 still causes a crash/error report log to pop up on my computer. I dont get it. I'll try that test file tomorrow. I have to get to bed. Thanks for the help so far yukine.

for those that were having the same problem i was, was able to stream before but not after the update, i fixed mine so you can try this.

first, go into WMP11 and click library, media sharing.

you probably already have the 360 selected from before, right click the 360 and select remove from list.

then turn off media sharing, click ok and close WMP.

reopen WMP and again go to library, media sharing.

turn sharing back on. your 360 should appear (make sure your 360 is on)

click allow for the 360 and make sure you have music and videos selected, pictures too if you want that.

after that you should be able to stream, at least it did it for me. i didnt have to readd my library or anything like that. hope that helps some people.

got it working thru WMP11 again. i used to have it go thru this but used to take forever to browse my library. faster now. and TVersity keeps crashing on me anyway.
Anyone?
HDMI? No.
VGA? Doubtful. I'd think someone would have posted by now or at least MS would have mentioned it.

just cannot get file sharing to work. Can anyone help me? I've been at this for hours. I have XP SP2 so I can just use Media Player 11. I use that and enable sharing and my 360 shows up. I allow the 360 to share, but my 360 doesn't recognize my PC.

I messed with the firewall settings and ports and still nothing. What should I do? I'm using a Router and it's connect by wires btw.

My friend brought his xbox over that had the dashboard update. I burned a .avi to a data cd and it wouldn't read. Do I need to put it on a DVD?

I have the newest version of TVersity running with a very small library built up for now to test it out. I have a few songs showing up in the 'Sharing' tab but they don't show up in the 'Library'. They aren't showing up on the 360.

same problem here, but as another poster said Tversity works... it's just too much of a hassle.
same problem here, but as another poster said Tversity works... it's just too much of a hassle.
Yeah, I don't want to use a 3rd party program to get this to work.

I THINK it might be a firewall port problem. I currently use ZoneAlarm free version and you can't use ports in this version. I tried opening the ports on my router and that didn't work either. I even trid the Media center Extender and it said it couldn't connect to the extender because of a firewall. -.-

agreed.. it should just work like MS said it should but oh well. My 360 and PC are next to each other sharing the same monitor so it's not worth it unless I have an HDTV and the 360 in another room but since I don't have any hdtv's oh well :(
