Official Final Fantasy IV DS thread
Apparently there's a lot of new content added. There's a "Decant" system in which you get a lot of new abilities like Auto Potion and shit. And the difficulty has been ramped up to compensate. I might get this even though I don't really want to support Square's remake/port/spinoff bullshit if they actually added stuff of worth, unlike with FF3.
I'll probably be buying it anyway, my love for this game and desire to see it remade in 3d are too powerful to resist.

I'd agree with you on FF3, other than the fact that it was never released here. it's hard to complain about a lack of new content when it's the 1st time it's been released. Although, I did feel like the "hidden boss" was a pretty poor excuse for post-game content, after the huge amounts that were found in all of the FF Advance games.
Any news on a US release of this game?
I'll answer my own question a few months later, and bump this thread. Nintendo Power has this on the cover this month, and a pretty long article. I would say that it is confirmed that it is coming to USA.

In NP's "Game Watch Forecast" it lists it as a 7/08 release. Hurrah!

Thanks for the info! I wonder if they'll do a preorder bonus... :whistle2:k

Enraged, the king accuses him of disloyalty, strips Cecil of his command, and sends him off to slay a mysterious beast that lurks in the nearby Valley of Mist.
Yikes, a seven-month gap for translation is pretty bad these days. At least I enjoyed my Japanese copy!
Well imagine what it feels like for those of us that enjoy Dragon Quest more :( DQ4r where art thou
Clearly a day 1 purchase. Yeah, it's $40, but fuck it... FFIV is good enough to justify spending extra.
This times 10. EASILY worth $40.

srsly, what's taking so long? DQIV came out a month before FFIV in Japan.

Ugh, getting my hopes down even more. I'm seriously going to cry if they announce they're not bringing it here. They already fucked us over on the Playstation.

Yeah, I'm ashamed to say it, but FF4 DS is a total day 1 purchase.
Ugh, getting my hopes down even more. I'm seriously going to cry if they announce they're not bringing it here. They already fucked us over on the Playstation.
For real. DQIV is my favorite RPG of all time, although the likes of FF6 and Chrono Trigger definitely challenge the throne. Regardless, no way are they going to remake such an awesome game twice and not send it this way.

Maybe they're worried about confusing people since 7, 8, and 9 are out or coming out. But at this point I think anyone who cares about these games gets why they'd be so out of order.

Apparently the development studio doing the translation got shut down midway through, and it would have cost a huge amount of money to restart with another team. At the time, Enix was still kind of the underdog, so they probably couldn't afford it for a mildly obscure game (by US standards) that wasn't going to go triple platinum.

If it makes you feel any better, this is from Wikipedia:

"While a United States release has not been unveiled, several people editing the Japanese ROM file discovered a near complete English translation along with Spanish, French, German, and Italian translations already inside the Japanese game.[5] Many fans are taking this to mean such an announcement is imminent."

So maybe there is an RPG G-d?

My rpg playing days began with FF 6 (FF3 in US) and Chrono Trigger

I never got to playing FFIV

Should I go back and play the original or wait for the remake?

There's a well worn pillow in my house that I punch everyday because of no DQ IV on PS1.

I was obsessed with the NES version but I got rid of it in anticipation of the PS port.

I heard about that months ago. I REALLY REALLY hope it comes to fruition, but it's been months since I even herd about the damn ROM. :(

I guess most of you missed the announcement a few days ago.

Even for what looks like a fantastic game, I'm slightly disappointed in the high price point.
So does anyone know how the soundtrack is in this DS version, or perhaps know how good the added content is supposed to be?
The soundtrack is good, I bought it and the single.
Look at page 3.
My bad, I completely missed that.

I guess I misunderstood the line of discussion as it pertains to DQIV and not FFIV.

Dragon Warrior IV > Final Fantasy IV

It had to be said.

BUT

Final Fantasy IV DS is coming 4 days after my birthday.

SO

Final Fantasy IV DS wins.

HOWEVER

I want me some DQ 4 now, bitches.

GIMMIE

Phbbt!!

I'd be more excited with some Final Fantasy VI DS news. I really hope they skip a FF V remake, but knowing Squeenix, they gotta take every Final Fantasy opportunity to squeeze more money out of us. I just wanna hear a voice actor do the Kefka "hate Hate HATE" speech more than anything.

But don't get me wrong. I love me some FF IV too. I've watched some of the youtube videos of the Japanese version and it looks really awesome. I hope they've got some good voice actors for this english version.

Awww... damnit, I forgot there was voice acting. Well, here's hoping they don't fuck it up...

And yeah, if they plan to redo all the SNES games, itd be nice if they skipped 5 since, while good, it's utterly unimportant when there's FFVI to be worked on.
DQ sucks. This thread is about FFIV, one of the greatest games of all time. No need to talk about garbage in here.
No need to be an asshole about it, either. There are better ways of saying, "Stop being off-topic" than being so insulting.

I wasn't being completely serious, relax lol.

DQ still sucks though...

See when you put a fact in your statement, it's hard for people to see the facetiousness of the rest of it.

Never played any of the DQ games so I'd like to give them a shot if given the opportunity. Some of the entries have been but in the same class as FFIV and Chrono Trigger which certainly piques my interest.
You're always in RPG threads even though I was pretty sure you hated RPGs.
What the fuck are you talking about? RPGs are pretty much the only genre I play. I just hate shitty RPGs, which are the majority of RPGs coming out lately, unfortunately.
See when you put a fact in your statement, it's hard for people to see the facetiousness of the rest of it.
True. But the people who know me on the forums knew I was being silly, and that's who that comment was meant for.
Yeah, but look at your taste in games.

;)
Oh quiet you Ar Tonelico hater!

This game is tied for being my favorite FF (with FFVI), and I can't wait until it's release in the summer. I think I've played this game like 5 times already, and I'm just excited to be able to experience this legendary game with 3D graphics for the first time. I just hope the voice acting is excellent for this iteration of the game. :)

I'm just messing with you.

I'm going far off topic here, but to be fair... Gust games do kind of suck unless you're an anime nut. Even if you are, the basic gameplay is like a crappy SNES RPG (with added load times). Everyone enjoys a crappy game now and then, I like Musashi Samurai Legend...

So back on topic... Rydia is hot.

I wonder what the English voice acting is gonna be like. I don't know if I want to put voices to these characters that I've known for years without voice acting. It's probably gonna suck; hopefully it can be turned off.

Totally agree on the option to turn off voice acting. Personally I'd like that option in all games. Or better, for the voice acting to not be there in the first place. All video games have terrible voice acting. When people say some game has good voice acting, what they really mean is "less terrible". Or at least as far as I can tell. The only exception is for kid-friendly games, because there the voice acting serves a purpose - to read text to kids who can't yet read the text, at least not easily or quickly.
