Without a doubt, my favorite Final Fantasy. I played it over and over growing up, and still continue to do so to this day. Needless to say, when the remake was announced, I was ecstatic. It comes out tomorrow (12/20) in Japan, and as far as I know, no release date has been set for North America.

The opening CG has been posted on Youtube, and it is fuckING EPIC.
i wonder if they "hid" the English translation on the cart like Dragon Quest IV DS?
I would import it right now if they did. I doubt they did though. The game's entirely in 3D, voice acting, etc.. I doubt they'd have room on the cart

Nice. Me wants. Whens it comes to US? Hmm?

I just wish they would skip the FF V remake and go straight to my FF fav, FF VI. I wanna hear Kefka's "Hate" speech voice acted so bad.

the Japanese Dragon Quest IV DS has a 95% completed English translation that can be unlock with Action Replay code.

I hate to be the one coming in here wanting more, but although that CG is what I always envisioned the game to be, it's still one of the few games that I think deserves the complete overhaul to high def with a fully orchestral soundtrack. I'll be getting it regardless, just as I've gotten FFC, FFIV Advance, and even the imported FF Collection before FFC was available stateside, but this is still one that I won't be satisfied with until it's presented the way my snobby mind thinks it should be.

FFVI still has its chance. It's far and away the most epic in the series and could dazzle the gaming world in a full-on PS3 presentation.

/end wishful thinking

Ditto on that. I'd much rather have a remake for something like this on a worthy system... but whatever, I'm still buying this as soon as it hits the US.

Definitely the best game in the series. Hell, I think it's the only game in the series that was ever better than "decent."

I'll be buying this day 1.

I agree. FFV was completely overhyped and had extremely shallow characters.

I would also love Chrono Trigger in 3D...I would never ask for anything else from Square if that happens.
Hopefully it will cost less than FF3 when it first came out.
Seeing how they release Revenant Wings at $39.99, I think it will be full price. Sucks that Square Enix is the only one releasing $40 DS games

From what I've heard the story in Lost Odyssey is a lot like FFIV. Lost Odyssey comes out on the 360 in February.

nah.. i love 2D RPGs.. don't think i'll like this as much as the originals.. I however just want a re-release of Chrono Trigger.. and a sequel in its vain (I love the New Game+ mode) I had my hopes up for it on the GBA .. now hopefully it hits the DS with updated graphics (however.. i don't know if i'll like chrono trigger as much unless it was exactly true to the original)

Not that we have to pay that, being CAGs and all, but I think it's deserving.

Ahh man I can't WAIT for this game to come out.
I'm still playing FF3, but ill prob. finish it before this one hits the stores.

Maybe, but that still $5-10 more than other publisher are charging for quality games. They can get away with it because of the large FF fanbase.

I'd slap $40 down on it without even thinking.

If FFIV or FFVI made the jump to full on 3D, my mind would be blown.
Maybe, but that still $5-10 more than other publisher are charging for quality games. They can get away with it because of the large FF fanbase.
i do agree there are many, many quality $30 games, and part of the reason S-E can get away with charging $40 is because of the FF fanbase, but i expect FFIV DS to be better than even the other quality games in the areas of graphics, voice acting, music, and FMVs, despite the story and gameplay being 20 years old.

if the final fantasy name was all there was to it, then FF12:RW would have been more successful. i think FFIV will blow it out of the water, and all the media i've seen of FFIV makes me sure i will be picking it up.

This is my favorite game of all time, so I have no problem paying $40 for it. I just wish we could get a US release date and a sample of the voice acting. I really hope the voices will be on par with the Japanese ones, but I doubt it.

Just watched a few videos.....WOW. Just freaking wow. And this isn't even my favorite FF title (that honor belongs to VI).

The videos, the basic character models. The fact that there is voice acting!! How are they fitting that on the DS cart? I didn't think they could hold that. It's gotta be just a few key scenes.

I'm ready to pay $40 for this now. FFIV lovers must be in heaven.

They can get away with it because as far as gaming goes, it's one of the greatest stories ever written.

Top 3 all time for me, I play it every single year at least once, and next year will hopefully be the DS version.

This is awesome.

Any idea when it's coming out here yet?

Edit: I have no problem paying $40 for this, with the huge changes made to the game, adding voice acting, changing the ability system, adding new story bits, adding new dungeons, and changing the visual styles for many of the villages in the game.

I'm far too tired to elaborate.

I own Japanese and US copies of every FF game through XII (I stopped buying both around 1 year ago), but no way I'm buying this for $40. I'll wait for it to hit $25 at the most.

And I loved FFIV. My favorite, except for perhaps XII or IX. But $40 for a DS game? No thanks.

How about $40 for a playstation 1 game? Or N64? That I bet didn't sound too bad at the time. This is on par with those, but just portable.

That being said, I agree, but that's just the CAG in me. I think it's worth it, but I am too cheap for full price probably.

The amount of content being packed into this game is pretty significant. And they're using a larger size DS cart than the average crossdokujong game that comes out on the system.

To be fair, both the SE games that I know of that retailed for $39.99 have tanked hard (Revenant Wings/Heroes of Mana).

I know you want the game, but you really shouldnt be rewarding this kind of thing. They'll be options for getting it for less. Its not going anywhere.

Apparently there's a lot of new content added. There's a "Decant" system in which you get a lot of new abilities like Auto Potion and shit. And the difficulty has been ramped up to compensate. I might get this even though I don't really want to support Square's remake/port/spinoff bullshit if they actually added stuff of worth, unlike with FF3.
FFIII was $39.99 also, but didn't tank.

oh thats right, FF3 was $40 too. I dont think DQM: Joker is doing all that hot, but I'm not sure.

Dammit, SE, charging PSP prices for DS games.

I agree, I think Square need to stop this recycling of their games, but this game looks too good.

And is FFXII:RW really "tanking"? It's gotten solid reviews, and most places I've been to in the last week or so have had few, if any, copies.

They did something like 46k during the 2 weeks or so that it was counted in the Nov NPD. In comparison, Umbrella Chronicles for example, did like 120k on a 3 week frame on an install base nearly 5 times smaller.

Maybe tanking is a strong stance, but I think they at least expected a better showing.

Revenant Wings deserves to tank. Yuck. Rented and returned asap.

Give us a US release date for FF4DS already!!!!!
