Official Final Fantasy IV DS thread
Totally agree on the option to turn off voice acting. Personally I'd like that option in all games. Or better, for the voice acting to not be there in the first place. All video games have terrible voice acting. When people say some game has good voice acting, what they really mean is "less terrible". Or at least as far as I can tell. The only exception is for kid-friendly games, because there the voice acting serves a purpose - to read text to kids who can't yet read the text, at least not easily or quickly.
Yeah, I HAD to turn off the voices in Tales of Legendia or else I would've gone insane. It was a horrible game anyway, but I was able to play it for much longer than I would have otherwise thanks to being able to turn the voices off. The music was bad in that game too except for like 2 tracks.

I'm almost positive now that we are opposite halves destined to destroy each other in an epic confrontation.
Is Legendia anywhere close to as good as Abyss?
IMO, yes. But I'm aware it's the black sheep of the series, and I'm in the minority.

After that you'll combine while flying towards the sun - after which you will be called Rei of Knight.

It's ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssss as the Angry Video Game Nerd would say.

The battle system is fine, but the story, characters, dungeons, and music all suck incredible ass. I got nearly 40 hours into the game before I finally had to stop. I'm surprised I even held on that long. The first half of the game is tolerable and sometimes even enjoyable, but once you get to the second half, you've had your fill of the game and just want it to end. But no.... The story gets a lot worse and you're fighting the exact same enemies all over again, in the SAME EXACT DUNGEONS AS BEFORE with the SAME SHITTY MUSIC. And that is why I stopped playing.

In other news, someone on Neo GAF posted that S-E has filed a trademark in the US for "Chapters of the Chosen," which is pretty obviously Dragon Quest IV-related. The NES version was subtitled "The Chosen Ones" or "The Guided Ones" and the game is divided into chapters. This, along with the ROM hack and Square's general inability to announce games for US release until months after they're released in Japan (especially DQ games), gives me a lot of hope we'll be seeing it here sometime soon.

Lies!

The music is awesome and the characters are amazing. It was the battle system that was lacking.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I give up. We have such opposite tastes it's pretty ridiculous.
I'm just messing with you.

I'm going far off topic here, but to be fair... Gust games do kind of suck unless you're an anime nut. Even if you are, the basic gameplay is like a crappy SNES RPG (with added load times). Everyone enjoys a crappy game now and then, I like Musashi Samurai Legend...

So back on topic... Rydia is hot.
You're behind the times. Apparently Porom is the new jail-bait of choice.

Naw man, I luvz dat anime, and I fell asleep playing Mana Khemia. Literally, it happened twice and I wasn't even tired. Shit's boring as hell. I dunno why Gust fans are... fans of Gust. Gluttons for punishment or something...

but yeah, Rydia is the hot.

Porom's lookin' pretty fine for a sexxxed up 10-year-old. Probably wouldn't hesitate IRL.

You have made my day.

Who the hell is Ceodore? Edit: oh right, this is the sequel.

There was a cell phone sequel to FF IV? I always thought Cecil and Rosa went off to open a weapons shop in Secret of Evermore after FF IV.

But the news of DQ IV is AWESOME. To the max. IF it is true. If it is a tease, I may cry.
Good god.

Throw the new artist into the garbage where they belong, Square, and get Amano back.

Jesus christ.
Sometimes hyperbole is funny, other times it makes one sound like a cheeto-guzzling fool.

I'm kidding, but the artist is not awful, just a different style.

This might have just made my day, DoK. I don't want to get too hopeful too soon, but all of the evidence combined seems pretty reliable.

I just don't understand why they wouldn't want to hype it more and announce it earlier, since DQ has never had as big a following here as it has in Japan.

So glad I'm done with school soon and can actually play through games instead of just buying them and playing sporadically.

Well releasing it around the time of FFIV here would kill its sales, so they're probably giving FFIV a wide berth. So maybe we'll see it Fall 2008?

Sorry to go OT, but what's so great about DQ IV? I played a little of the PS1 remake (aided with a translation guide) and I didn't really see anything spectacular about it.

No, it's awful. I've gotten tired of the ridiculous body proportions anime/Japanese artists already use, and this new guy cranked that nonsense up to 11.

I guess after FFVII all bets were off.

For me, the NES version really picked up...
After you'd finished all the little intro adventures and had a big-ass party to work with. That being said, I was playing it in like 1993 so I might not enjoy it as much now.
DQIV: All but confirmed by an official press release by Square-Enix.

Go to esrb.org, type "Dragon Quest IV" in the search bar.
Hot.

Amano uses pretty ridiculous body proportions, what exactly do you want from the art team?
