Official Gears of War 2 Discussion Thread

I wish all the games I purchased for my Xbox 360 were this bad. ;)
It definitely is bad for people who like multiplayer the most, this is Gears 2 ffs.

Yep, I have no problem with Gears 2. I'm not big into online multiplayer and the campaign and co-op were fantastic so I got what I wanted. I need to get back to Horde mode sometime as well.

I like online multiplayer, but I think I've been influenced by it way to much. I think the game has a great structure, and it's lacking in one department, but I don't think I will keep on running back to this game for it's story or horde mode. Replay Value is usually key in games, I like games with replay value and multiplayer really helps with replay value. I mean I don't think many of you would want to run back to Assassin's Creed after you beat it.

Gears 2 is a fun solid game, just wish a game development company with a high respect level, and a successful game would actually make everything work. Epic Games is a highly respected game development company, and is really high up there with Halo 3. That says a lot about Epic Games, and they have shown their potential, and it seems they didn't actually quite use their full potential in their Online Multiplayer.
Nothing is wrong with the controls. The matchmaking/lag/glitching is terrible.

Same with me, I picked it up for the campaign and co-op. It was worth every penny and then some in that aspect. In a time when most games come out and skimp on the single player /co-op and focus mostly on the online I was suprised. Maybe other games will follow this path again.

I just beat the Single Player Campaign and the ending was just very meh to me. I enjoyed the buildup all the way through, and then the end just left me lacking.

Easier then or something because we got hung up less then... No, we haven't gone though all the hardness level yet, but it's the same thing we did for Gears 1

Love the single-player/co-op campaign mode.

Hate the multi-player mode with the exception of Horde which is fun but does get a bit repetitive at times.

All in all, they need to fix the multiplayer problems soon or I'm pretty much done with this game until they do.

It is easier. Haven't played Insane yet, but my buddy and I pretty much breezed through on Hardcore where as we got hung up several times on hardcore (and a ton on Insane) in the first game.

Others have said that Insane on Gears 2 is easier than hardcore on the first one.

I would have to agree, if you have a competent partner, you'll be fine. Some of the tricky parts were the vehicle missions, but they weren't as bad as the motherfucking Kryll in the first one.

Yeah, the Kryll vehicle part and Raam sucked on Insane in the first one. And a few other sticking parts like the end of the level in Marcus' parents house etc.

I saw someone melee me using a golden lancer a couple of weeks ago. (not when im down. we both standing.) How do u do that? Even my friend saw that last night. He didn't believe me at first until last night which the guy did it on him.

saw this posted on GAF just now: http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=650739

As I mentioned before the break we’ve been working on a major title update for Gears of War 2. This update will address bugs and exploits as well as add some new achievements related to downloadable content. We don’t have an exact date for it but all indicators are it will go live within January. If that changes we’ll let you know.

We’re fixing a whole bunch of online exploits. For example we’ve fixed the ability to wield an invisible shield, melee through some walls, gain infinite Lancer ammo and equip a shield and a two-handed weapon simultaneously plus many more.

We’re also making several small changes to improve the overall online gameplay experience. A few of the ones that might interest you are; increased penalties for quitting matches early, adding additional spawn protection against planted grenades and chainsaw attacks, and adding the ability to see the Submission flag carrier destination by using Tac/Com.

We know you folks love achievements so on the achievement side we’re adding achievement progress numbers to the War Journal, increasing the frequency of in-game Achievement progression notifications and adding some new Achievements for DLC.

This is just a very small list of some of the things that will be in the next title update but one more item which has been talked about a lot in our forums deserves a special call out...

About that shotgun...

We fixed the client side hit detection on the shotgun so that in a high-latency (i.e. “laggy”) match, the shotgun will be more reliable. We’ve also fixed another bug whereby shotgun and boomshot rounds could strike the ground when firing from the hip.

So there’s a brief status report on the next title update. At some point I expect we’ll post a more detailed list but I assure you we’re working hard to get this out the door and once it’s done we’ll start working on the next update. We’ll try to do a better job keeping you informed of our progress on future updates and we’ll try to be a little more active in the forums once this update is released.

Neat.
So they didn't fix that shitty fucking chainsaw? fuck you CliffyB.

The "fixed exploits" will be re-exploited within a week or two, so at least the shotgun news is good.

I uploaded my first photo. Achievement Unlocked!

But what are the points? Is it like dead rising where you get more points for more blood or dead guys or something similar? Or is that just the score of the game, which would be kind of pointless.

PS. I was playing a game today, i think it was execution and when i shot my bullets didnt run down, i could shoot non stop without even reloading. However i dont think i was hitting anyone. I really hate the melee button. I pressed B by a guy twice to chainsaw him and i ended up getting shot and died cos it wouldnt work.

I can't seem to figure it out completely. It seems to depend on the enemys on screen and weapons being fired . . .etc.

This one scored 4407 . . . wait the rest of mine . . .are . . gone . . wtf?

Strange, all but three of mine are gone.

Hey guys, I just got Gears 2. I dont have many friends with the game so I was looking for some CAGs to play multiplayer with, I'd love to hop into a game without any glitchers

Im looking for someone to co op with, and beat the game on insane. ive already done half of the first chapter. Me and a buddy got stuck in the apartments where you have to split up. Now im not the greatest, but he kept dying so he gave up. Looking for someone to continue from there and help me. PS i dont use a mic, so if that is a problem for you, then dont offer to help. Oh yeah, i usually play at night. Like around 10pm Central time and later. :)

I still think they should have given out the map pack for free as a concession for a month and a half of shitty MP. A "thanks for buying the game, sorry we fucked up, here's a gift of our gratitude until we get things patched up" scenario.

You can add me, Ghengis. I don't glitch and the group of guys I play with aren't hardcore. Well, except for one guy but you'll figure it out. You can add me at DaLastDon25.

Wait, I don't understand the extra spawn protection. I think it's more strategic for the modes where you respawn to plant grenades and such. =/

Can someone give me the basics on glitches and lag on online gaming? Why is it that Halo never seems to lag and there is almost non-existant glitching?

I'm surprised that they released it...only people that can take advantage of the maps are the users who pirated the game, or those who purchased the game used...which was the whole point of them including the map code in the game case in the first place.

That's probably a nice way to sort them out .

So, they're doing nothing about host cheating? Shield glitch, and other glitches can't hold a candle to lagswitchers and stanbyers as well as the invisible glitch.

They're fixing numerous glitches, including the shield glitch. The lagswitchers/standbyers I don't think can be helped at this point because they'd have to recode it I think.

People are going to buy the game used regardless. I think Epic would like to make $5 on some of them, because it's better than nothing.
Halo fixed the standby issue.... no reason Epic cant
They didn't fix it in Halo2 and according to my friend, they still do it in Halo 3.
How do you get kicked out of a match? It's happened to me a few times. Does the game pick a host and if he leaves, we all get kicked?
Yes.

Many people have figured out how to boost their rank by quitting and it's very common now. You'll notice nearly all rank 3 and 4's quit all the time when losing. If one of them happens to be host then it's bye-bye match.

The people quitting issue would be easily fixed by Epic hiding the ranks. I'm sure the quitters would be toned down drastically, at the very least.

That is why achievements and trophies for online play are the worst thing in this generation of gaming as far too many games are making the online play far too valuable for those that care about that sort of thing. Most people say they do not care about ranks and what not but they also do not like to look like they suck really bad at a game so they try to find ways to eliminate some of that. The win 50 in a row you will see in some games or some of the other ridiculous achievements like that are made for cheap players that will quit or pad just to get it. I am sure if the games did not keep such detail stats, you would see the number of quitters drop dramatically since they would be playing for fun like they are supposed to instead of bragging rights or a bigger gamer score.

Achievements or not, as long as there is an online ranked leaderboard, people will try to find ways to manipulate their rank/standing.

Although, some people are moved to play games solely based on increasing the rank next to their name. While I can understand doing that for a game like Geometry Wars 2, I cannot see the appeal in a game like Gears of War 2.
