[SIZE=+1]Three important notes[/SIZE] (please read these before posting questions):

[SIZE=+1]1)[/SIZE] Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

[SIZE=+1]2)[/SIZE] Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: chttp://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way).

Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

I picked up .hack Vol. 3 from the one Kmart. It was sitting out on the $19.99 and under shelf at the store. This same store also has copies of Baten Kaitos: Origins, but I think those were marked back up to sticker price.
 
Went back to K-Mart to see if there were more "Strangleholds" for $1.00 but all the XBOX 360 ones were out, PS3's were still there but those were $10.00. Took games to the register person to check all prices because I wanted the Nintendo DS "Club House Games" that was listed as $19.99 to be cheaper, but did see the Custom Roboto Arena and SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters for $15.00 and rung up for $5.00, so picked up those two and "Geometry Wars Galaxies". Was unsure about that game since I pretty much play it on 360 but it received good ratings and figured, it's a different game, so $5 was fine.

Was considering that Golden Compass for XBox 360 for $5 for achievements, I wouldn't rent or buy that game but for $5...was thinking if it was worth the achievements or not. I passed but if others played it, please let me know if it's worth $5. Even for the achievements...hehe...

Here is what you do. Go to another K-mart and buy the Strangleholds. Then return the game to the K-mart that sells them for $1 and say you want to do a price adjustment. I did that tonight with some Disagea 2 that was at one K for $49.99. Disagea 2 rang for $12 when I scanned the UPC at 2 K-marts.

As for Golden Compass, have you seen the movie? I was tempted to play because the game has the ending that was cut from the movie.
 
Golden Compass is not worth it even for the achievements and i'm a huge fan of the books and i thought the movie was ok. I played a few hours of it and couldn't take it anymore it was really awful and i got no achievements in the few hours i played. It also takes even more liberties with the story than the movie did and expects that you are already very familar with the story where it skips from section to section without any clue for a newbie to the story of what's going on.

I'm in Tucson and went to a Kmart that is actually very clean and well-lit and well-organized. As a result, it was a dead zone for clearance stuff. I found none of the $5 Wii or 360 games except for 1 copy of that SNK card game for the DS (with the proper $5 tag), so they must have tagged and sold everything else. There were tons of Cranium Kabooki and Stranglehold for $10 though - makes me think a CAG hit 'em up since $10 is too much but $5 just right for most CAGs ;).

But, to bring this around to your quote, I saw they had BK Origins AND several copies of Pokemon XD in the case. Since the guy came up and asked me if I needed any help (another bad sign for finding hidden clearance stuff ;)) I had him check that. He took it out and read the sticker off to me (which was hidden before). It was $29.99. I asked if there was any chance it was cheaper since I was pretty sure that was a clearance game a while back (we all know it was but I was trying to play innocent). I was informed by the helpful young man that Pokemon games never go on clearance and it is still full regular price like the GBA Pokemon games. Well, even though $29.99 is not the full regular price I didn't want to argue and I figured it was probably repriced to that anyway because that clearance pricing was so long ago. Oh well...
 
I have been away from this thread for a while, can someone fill me in on whatever is up with Stranglehold, and then any other good drops as of late (regarding to 360 games)

If the colors don't look faded, then it's the bugged cart. Someone told me that SNK is no longer swapping the broken carts for working ones, but you may want to double check to be sure on that.
 
I think it is ridiculous these companies put out defective products and then either charge for it (Halo 3 LE if the discs are scratched) or in this case, stopping the replacement program so if you happen to buy a defective one, you are out of luck.

In all honesty though did that game really fly off the shelves before it hit clearance? So the company already cut it's losses on it and said oh well to whatever stock was still out there.

According to Wikipedia: Fixed versions of the game feature a black and white graphic behind the title font on the cartridge's label. Bug version the label is full color.

So yeah, looks like you can't tell unless you open it.

Howdy gang!

I checked the K-Mart in Vancouver, WA (on Andresen) this morning, and they have been cleared out of everything listed except for SNK VS. Capcom Card Fighters.

Hopefully I can save someone a trip.
 
Checked 3 Kmarts in the Cleveland area this week to look for Nights and all of them were out of stock. Middleburg Heights had them on Thursday (I believe) but were gone as of last night. Couldn't find Timeshift (PS3) either.

Chances are the copy you have has been sitting on the shelf since the game was launched. The hardcore fans didn't seem to think highly of the DS sequel. You may want to just save yourself the potential headache and avoid rolling the dice with a so-so game.
 
I purchased mine Sunday and made sure to look for the SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters had the black and white border around the title (which the two remaining copies did).

So, just look for the version with the white and black border around the title. I'm glad I waited and not purchased it via the Gamestop DS 25% sales...because I think a lot of the used ones on the shelves were the fubar'd ones.

Finally stopped in tonight and picked up:
Geometry Wars (Wii) $5.

Only picked up 1 game. They did have Godfather (Wii), Shadowrun, Fantastic Four Silver Surfer, and Golden Compass (XB360) and Hot Shots Tennis (PS2) for $5 each. The rest was $10-$15 each. I already have Godfather and none of the others were tempting.

Shadowrun is well worth $5, in my opinion. There's a bit of a learning curve to be really good at it, but it is a blast to play. Its not a shooter than you can just spray and pray and run around all willy-nilly. Strategy and teamwork is advised.

I live fairly close, so I check twice a month or so. I haven't found any deals at that location since the $4 Ape Escape 3 (ps2) almost two years ago.

I guess they either have a CAG working there, or I'm being out-CAG'd.

Anybody have any trouble returning games? I bought a few I decided I didn't want and Kmart refused to take them back. Cited a "No return policy on clearance items." I'm pretty sure I've returned clearanced games in the past, is this a new thing?

returned a few clearance games just yesterday no problem. just as long as you have the reciept u should be able to return anything i would imagine. i'd go back again, maybe someone was having a bad day.
 
It also happened to me before, so I usually peel off the yellow clearance labels and try not to return too many games at one time. In general, K-mart receipts are valid for 90 days ... but I did get reprimanded once for going over 30 days. I guess it truly depends on the CSR's mood.

'cause I'm busy and haven't felt like updating it thoroughly like it needs to be ;). I really haven't paid much attention to this thread in several months as Kmart has been very slow with stuff recently. This latest drop was the first action there in a long time and it has only been a week or so. Right now I'm out of town and have spotty Internet access (not to mention getting up at 4AM for work).

If anyone wants to collect all the new prices together in one post I can update the OP quickly with that info. I nominate you wolfpackgamer ;).

I heard that American Idol presents Kareoke Revolution went down but havent checked the price. Want to though
 
DANG!! The week I dont check the forum would be the week they drop, I hope the local Flea Market vendor hasnt picked my store clean yet.
 
GAH!! I just checked my K-Mart and most of the good titles were sold already, that's what i get for not cheking the forum for a week. I guess I can get them at the Flea Market in two weeks for more than K-Mart had them marked last clearance, :(.

I did get "Detained", the chasheer at the front of the store tried to say that i put the clearance stickers on the games, they held me untill the lady from Electronics walked back and told them to let me go. I was about to call K-Mart corporate.

One of my local Kmarts was picked clean by someone(not sure who) and they only left behind the FF:ROTSS game for 360 in multiples for $5 each.

Mind you, the only reason(s) I went there were for the $19.99 phone they have this week, an RCA 105 camera(which I think FINALLY got sold) and a handful of the $5 games. So, it was a total bust for me. This Kmart had Timeshift marked down to $13 for PS3, which seemed weird since the store I bought it at had it @ $10.

It sucks that Kmart corporate put down the edict to properly mark clearance stuff, since 90% of my local stores are doing just that. Yet, when you want to go BUY something, there's still no one in electronics and it takes them 20 minutes to open the f'n case since they move like a sloth.

The only store by me with anything decent left is the one where nothing is marked, which I hope is a trend that continues till after next month when the other PS3 games drop to $5.

Were these games that went back up? I guess thats a pro of having locked up games, they wont argue with the price since they put the sticker on.

Hmm...I wonder what major sale will be coming up in December for K-Mart... Usually I try to score some of those PSP and DS and PS2 games during that time. Does that list come out in December or much earlier in advance?
 
OK. Here's an oddity that I thought was truly strange today. I went to a local Kmart to buy one of the cell phones that they have on sale this week, as well as a $5 game or two.

So, I get up to the register to pay, total is blah blah blah, but I don't have cash on me. I brought a blank check from my checkbook and nothing else with me, since I had ZERO problems just last night @ CC buying stuff with one.

So, they go through the process of entering in my birthdate, license number, phone number and so on. Then, I thought I heard the clerk say 'your check was declined'.

So, I ask him, he repeats it. So be it, so I walk/storm out of the store, since I'd just checked my balance earlier in the day and it was still at around $350, since the CC check hadn't cleared yet.

So all sorts of crap is running through my head, like 'did the people @ CC enter in $1239.70 instead of $123.97 for my bill last night and so on. So, back to my bank I go....

After a little explanation later, they told me that Kmart(and the one local grocery store chain) uses Tele-check and that 'my check # was too low' and that they can and apparently did reject my check because of THAT.

Of all the stupid fuckin' reasons to reject someones check. I mean, I could see if the amount of the check was being drawn from my account on the spot and the system noticed my account had a negative balance. But because my friggin' check # is too low? Wtf kind of asinine garbage is that?

Needless to say, I guess if I want to buy any clearance games in droves from Kmart, I need to go withdraw cash and THEN go buy the damn things. I didn't have this problem when I had a relative use one of their checks at another Kmart for the HD-DVD drives I had for a while, but then again their check # is up in the 1400's someplace.

I am beyond pissed right now. Of all the idiotic bullshit I've ever heard while working in retail, this takes the cake for stupidest policy ever.

That is weird because I just bought Ice Age 2: Meltdown this morning for $5. I also got the last 2 copies of Zack & Wiki Wii and Shadowrun Xbox 360.

I don't know why anyone uses checks when there are debit cards. That way you can't bounce checks and you don't hold up lines while filling it out, running it, getting license, etc.
 
My local K-mart had a Pokemon Emerald sitting in the case under a whole bunch of GBA games. Anyone one know if it's on clearance? I saw on the OP that Ruby and Sapphire were but nothing about Emerald. My lunch break was about over and I didn't feel like searching for a CSR.

Yeah my parents and my wife's parents both told us to start our checks in the thousands, because lowered numbered checks are notorious for being rejected. Sorry you had to go through that, I never deal with check. I always have my debit card and I hate credit cards.
