[SIZE=+1]Three important notes[/SIZE] (please read these before posting questions):

[SIZE=+1]1)[/SIZE] Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

[SIZE=+1]2)[/SIZE] Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: chttp://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way).

Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

Many of us are not thrilled at all .... but have just stopped commenting as we see what it going on ...

i was looking at the whole thing as the glass half empty, on the other side, not untill we see there work take effect, will we start to embrace this whole SHC team, OG SHC was/is trying but KMART is a big coprortation for one employee, so i understand bringing in more people, i may not like it, but i understand it

think of it this way, cag.com takes up only a corner of the internet, with KMART corporate employees, it magnifies and creates more attention (wanted and unwanted) towards us, like most people say...."dont mess with the sears thread"....that could be next

*sigh* Well, it was fun while it lasted.

When I picked up my wife just now, she showed me a bulletin hung on the wall in her breakroom: turns out it was the post about CAG on their in-house social network, linking directly to CAG. It looked put together by some employee, but they were encouraging all of their gaming staff to come here. I didn't read through it 100%, but the fact that they're talking about this place on a store level means they're talking about it on a corporate level.

Alas, sweet KMart Clearance, I shall miss you. I wonder what's going on in the Sears thread..

I just don't get it. What's the advantage of having employees sign up here? They get to see just how crappy most of their prices are compared to everyone else that sells video games? Do they want the employees to buy everything up? Do they want them to stop telling us stuff costs more than it does? I mean maybe it's for a good reason like they want employees to stop manually entering the tagged price instead of letting some low ball clearance stuff go.
 
There isn't a corporate initiative to post things in clearance on Pebble or have stores hold product for employees or whatever else. If there are stores doing this on their own it is because CAG's have either revealed the thread to these stores or have contacted me for personal help with a store. The natural awareness is a two way street.

The only reason I started posting here ("the man" tags actually shook me as if you knew me personally I am soooooo not the man) is that consumers seemed to be having a tough time at certain stores and I wanted to help make it an easier process for everyone.

I also envisioned this as a chance to engage a community that could provide feedback for prices on games etc., in April for example I was able to attack almost every title that was mentioned. For May we did have to focus on accessories due to an upcoming reset but at least you know my goal.

I have my team posting here only to make things easier for you all, nothing more. If you would like us to leave I'll do whatever you would like and I'll focus more on deal threads. In the end, I just want to ensure that you knew that the guy who runs the show so to speak had your back, that's it.

I doubt it's corporate asking them to do this, it's just employees telling other employees "hey go check this out". Gamer employees that work for Kmart are still often like us - they want bargins at other stores (or even use their own position as store employee to clean up clearances at their stores). Sprint has an internal employee blog site where they chat it up amongst themselves and complain about customers, competition, and where to get great deals on phones and otherwhatnots. Basically, this isn't really anything out of the ordinary, and I've even seen CAG mentioned on sprint before as a great place to find game deals.

I don't really know why everyone is in such an uproar as to why the glory days, so to speak, are dead. I guess time will tell. But as far as the kmart-blogging stuff goes... /meh-nobiggie ;)
 
ya, its cool that you want to make the shopping experience better as a whole, however, i don't know how having all k-mart employees being instructed to visit CAG helps that happen for me.

I go to k-mart for the clearance games, and when that happens I tend to pick up other games there at the same time. however, if clearance games no longer exist there, neither do I =\

That's what I'm trying to say, we aren't telling them to go to CAG or anything else. If they are, it's not because of us/corporate. The only way the would know about CAG is a) they are already familiar with the site b) there was an issue at the store that I was asked to address by someone on CAG c) a forum member has told them about the site themselves

I hope I'm not sounding overally frustrated, I just don't like my close friends (SHC Gamer Guy MC'd my wedding for instance) railed against for merely trying to help out.
 
What deals exactly are we afraid of losing out on? I keep coming here thinking there's new clearance and instead find just a bunch of drama. I would guess newbies would find the same "meh."
 
Though I've run into a few Kmart snags (both with Resonance of Fate and Lost Planet 2) I applaud your efforts to turn things around and provide Kmart as a viable alternative to game shopping. Some people will never be satisfied with deals no matter how great they are and I hope you dont let that stop or hinder your efforts. Its nice to see you guys starting to throw in exclusive DLC with games too, like Blur. One of the main reasons I shop at Gamestop is because of pre-order bonuses, so having other options for those besides Gamestop is a breath of fresh air. Though Amazon has them I am not a fan of getting codes up to 10 days later, because I dont wait 10 days to play a new release. Many of us realize that you cant turn such a large ship around on a dime and would hate to see you change your enthusiastic approach because of things you dont or cant control.

Its not like the store employees dont get the info on the drops anyway. I cant get anything at Target clearance because of the employees there grabbing it. Its always been one of the perks working retail. We got spoiled for a long time by Sears and Kmart having non-gamers work electronics. Clearance as a whole has been drying up for awhile now. Stores are getting better at maintaining inventory and their employees are getting better at buying stuff at markdown. Its by no means SHC's fault.
 
I understand that you help us alot. I really appreciated what you did for us, but the deals kind of got off hand.

The thing is, this "Pebble" business bothers me because the employees weren't actively looking for these things otherwise. This internal post -- which, I might add, could or could not come from you, your MC buddy, or someone in your department -- is going to make the employees more aware, and situations like I saw this morning (the clearance games being completely cleaned out by an employee) are going to happen more often. As thrilled as I am that you've come to town to help out, I have to say that I personally am not thrilled at all by you bringing friends. I cannot speak for anyone on here, just myself, and that's how I feel about it.

Everybody's passionate about games, and right now everybody's passionate about a good deal. I suppose that ultimately I feel like this was the customer's domain rather than the employee. Now that at least the ones at my local store are aware of it, I'll be lucky if I ever find a good deal again - whether it's a game going on sale for $30, or a clearance item. Resellers, hoarders, and general assholes are an even bigger issue. Too much light shed on the subject is making things more than a little uncomfortable.
I don't mean to sound like a pessimistic dick about all of this, but man, I'm more than just a little frustrated over it. I got some killer deals at my local KMart, and it looks like they just went flying out the window.
 
i just thought the shc game guy thing was a joke, like some guy trying to imitate shc gamer, it would be nice if all the kmart reps had green names like shc gamer, and a ilittle tittle that said official rep, i am afraid were gonna get some copycats feeding us false info.

The complainers have it all backwards, as usual. Kmart has been a complete shit hole for games and, frankly, most things. Shopping at Kmart is more like dumpster diving than shopping at a legitimate store. You go in, everything is strewn about, no one helpful is around, the tags haven't been updated in 2 years, and, just in case you still feel comfortable, there is a security guard right by the entrance watching your every move. At least that's how it is around here. So anything that adds legitimacy, structure, and oversight to the joke that is the Kmart shopping experience is just fine in my book. Frankly the official reps' presence here is the first sign in forever that the company is, well, a company, that actually wants to make sales through intentional business strategy rather than by throwing a bunch of shit into a building and hoping that people too poor and unsophisticated to know better wander in and overpay for something that they could have gotten cheaper elsewhere. So if a few Gollums in this thread are bemoaning the loss of their precious dumpster dive deals, oh well. That is some short-sighted, self-absorbed thinking. Kmart can't exist much longer doing things the old way, and much better that they actually address the problems and maybe grow into a company that can once again compete with other stores.

some people actually care about this site and its well being, not like somepeople (mikocouch), when i need something (gaming wise) i find it here, ive saved tons of money, ive shared lots of information, you my friend do not care about this site, and with that response, i know exactly what you are about

I started checking this website in 2003. Used to find deals left and right, but our numbers have multiplied since then. Friends tell friends, and so forth. Many many people are aware of this site. You also have fatwallet and other similar websites full of hoarders. SHC-Gamer can't control that. Its harder and harder to find deals nowadays but what can you do. Keep trying or like in my case, I have a backlog of games that's so extensive that at least now I may have the time to play some games with my kids as opposed to be bargain hunting at the stores. Just a thought.

well put, we are consumers, and now we are realising that "the man" instead of asking us questions or concerns, they want to shop right next to us

one thing is dealing with hoarders/resellers, dealing corporate/employees is another beast we are not use to and we dont know how to "fight" it

I appreciate SHC's input to this thread. I think he's done a world of good for KMart in his time here and he's passed through a heck of a lot of deals in a short time.

I think that there's a lot of paranoia here... and that it is so far unfounded.

Let's remember that, in general, the more stores that have good deals, the better off we are.

Do you want K-Mart to continue to be so uncompetitive? Do you want them to continue slowly being consumed by Walmart?
Do you whiners think you are entitled to games sold at a huge loss? Do you think a company can survive selling most its games for $5? Do you think that maybe the added interest and improvements in K-Mart could be what keeps them alive and better-serving the consumer?
Have you ever considered that the hoarders and resellers are helping to keep them alive by purchased many games for more than just $5? Have you noticed that Walmart sells their average game for a lot more than K-Mart? Have you whiners ever considered that you have been freeloading a bit excessively?
 
Honestly, so many folk just feel entitled. It's ludicrous. Be thankful for every opportunity provided and beyond that just stop with the infantile BS.

What exactly do you think is going to happen?

Let's face it -- other retailers are already watching this site. That's why we see things like TRU asking Cheapy to take the word "official" out of the TRU thread title. That's why we see contests sponsored by GameStop or Amazon. Do you really think that just because you can't see these people, just because they don't post and identify themselves, they're not really here?

The only difference here is that rather than sitting back and just watching us, SHC-Gamer and his crew are posting to let us know they're around, giving us info, helping us sort out problems, etc. He hasn't taken a hard-line stance with employees like Kay who have been providing us with info (if anything, he's endorsed and encouraged them doing it). He hasn't gotten upset when people have posted about price glitches, the $10 coupons, or other such exploits (and if you honestly think he wouldn't have discovered those just as quickly if he hadn't been here, you're deluding yourself). He's just gone right along, throughout this whole thing, good and bad, and kept trying to help. Personally, I think that's pretty cool.

As for employees . . . well, neither the fact that KMart does clearance or this site itself are big secrets. Any half-way smart KMart employee (which does, admittedly, eliminate about two thirds of them right off) who cares enough is going to figure out that clearance happens within a month of starting there. Within a few months, they'll have the clearance schedule down as well as we do. There is no great, mysterious secret that we're protecting here. If they want to buy up all of the clearance stock before we get to it, they'll do so with or without knowing about this site.

Hell, every single time one of us goes into a store and gets something for cheaper than the marked price (and you know there are people here who get particularly smug about it with the very employees they're trying not to let know about "their" deals), we're "alerting" an employee that there are unmarked clearance items there, yet that doesn't seem to have made a huge difference. I can't help but feel that if the employees haven't been bothering to clean things out already, they're not likely to start.

Likewise, the site is linked at numerous places across the web, and regularly comes up in Google searches -- let's face it, one or the other of those is how most of us got here to begin with. Anyone who is interested in the type of info that this site offers can find it with little difficulty.

So really, there's no reason to get paranoid. Nothing is going to change.

Stores will always have good deals/clearanced items (we CAGs just have to find them).

This has become a sort of ying to a yang scenario. However, both jaysapathy and SHC-Gamer have valid points.

One of SHC-Gamer's responsibilities is to clear out outdated merch in order to make way for new merch anyway possible. To this, he has done a great job! Posting deals here and other places helps out him, the company, as well as us CAGs (some prefer this method instead of having each game scanned by an employee who aren't too happy about it). However, he has broken the first "unofficial" rule of CAG.

I'm assuming Jaysapathy's (and others) point is now you will have employees (who never knew the reduced price) will now swarm the electronics/gaming area everyday/week trying to catch the deals before you. Then employees will check Pebble, see CAG, go to CAG, start going through the other threads here, tell other employees about CAG, who will in turn tell friends. Pebble takes off and other companies (BB, etc) start their own version (with CAG), next thing you know CAGs not so secret anymore. Then the question will be "why come here" other than the great/cool people we've all met here and have played online with (and CAGCast which is hilarious as well as honest game reviews).

Great for Cheapy (revenue-traffic wise) and unless every employee at your local Kmart/Sears is over 60 or don't care too much for games/electronics, not so great for you.

Both make valid points, but like I said before, what is done is done. I'm really curious how next month's clearanced items will effect some of us. Most Sears/Kmarts I've run across are 30+ min travel time and out of my way, so the next few months will determine whether it's worth the drive to check them out anymore (forget CAGs...you can never compete with Employees). Change...maybe...maybe not...we'll see.

This isnt true for me at least. I frequent 5-10 Kmarts every couple months and most if not all have yielded incredible finds, sometimes in large quantities. Its a YMMV but Ive always found Kmarts dark/sometimes rundown look to be a positive. It feels like a garage sale type find since stuff usually sits, unmarked in the back of a case for the true hunters to find.
 
There's so many points and counter points I agree with in many of these ramblings posts that it would take me forever to quote every last one I agree with.

But let me just say that I:

1) Have been shopping and taking advantage of the Kmart clearance schedule since before joining CAG
2)Enjoy the hunt for the deals moreso than getting the deals in many cases
3)Don't want to see Kmart(and by association due to the merger, Sears) go out of business, since those two stores are the ones I've managed to get 90-95% of my clearance games from
4)Don't expect to always get my games for the magical 90% off clearance pricepoint, but most of the games I've bought on clearance were only really worth $5 to me
5)Don't like that CAG is being openly advertised to the employees via an internal site, who might have never known about the site otherwise

While CAG isn't exactly a secret community and I myself found it by doing a search for "Cheap Games" five years ago, I'd prefer to have less competition for these deals as opposed to more competition. Yet I myself have told a few employees at various stores about CAG, so in the end if they grabbed up everything I only have myself to blame.

As far as stuff not being marked right is concerned though, I've said it before and I'll say it again now, THAT is how you end up finding the great deals. If everything was properly marked and put off into it's own section with big signs saying CLEARANCE all around it, I doubt many of us would find many of these deals.

Wow, elitist much? There's nothing private about this site whatsoever. Why don't you ask Cheapy if he would prefer to have "more people" or "less people" know about CAG?
 
i think a moderator should come in and just erase these last 2 pages that are not really relevant to clearance game finds. And there really long and boring 2.
