Rather than make changes below and have new stuff get lost amongst the really old clearance prices, I'm just making a new list up top but keeping the old list below. Who knows, you might still find something tagged with the prices in the older list so it's worth keeping around. Most of the current list is here thanks to kaydigi.

OK, here's the latest Kmart clearance thread.

Three important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

2) Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

3) These prices will not show up on the kmart.com web site. Don't even bother.

Old list:
Explanation of pricing list

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: chttp://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way).

Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

Color Scheme
New additions verified by CAGs
New additions reported by one member (needs verification)
90% off games (the lowest they will go before they drop out)
* - Denotes original Xbox games playable on the Xbox 360
(spoiler tag messes up colors so just ignore all this ;)).

and finally...
I found 2-3 dark sectors for each platform and a couple maddens and pikmins all marked @$4.97 and all still there.(that was today)
They wouldn't last around here if they were clearly marked $5.
Damn right it's a blessing when stuff isn't plastered with yellow clearance stickers, since if it were it might all be picked over. Almost all of the games I picked up on clearance this past week or so were still marked with $29.99 or higher stickers.

If stuff is clearly marked, it will go quicker and you'll have less of a chance to buy anything.
Unmarked games are definitely a plus. I can't find anything, ever, at my Kmart anymore. They price and mark everything since Sears renovated the stores. I remember when all clearance games were mixed in with the regular stuff and I could get pretty much anything easily but now, most worthwhile games are gone long before they even hit the sub $20 point.
Pardon my ignorance...but what's an NCF tag?
non-continuing forward - basically clearance so it won't be restocked I believe

I'm thinking of going back and doing some more looking at mine, I know i saw 2-3 pikmins, but their old games section is at the bottom and its stacked row aafter row and you cant see whats in there.

I just wish their games were organized better. 1) They can never tell me if they have a game in stock, even if I have the UPC in store for them to scan. 2) They can never find a game because there are rows and piles of games in no discernable order. If it wasn't for clearance games I would never step foot in a Kmart for these reasons. Their business operation is non-functional, and they are paying for it.

The closest K-Marts to me have this problem... For all I know there is a huge pile of Star Oceans or Atari Games somewhere in the pile behind the glass. Maybe one day I'll find an employee in the electronics section and go on a search for the $5 goodness.

I have run into an odd set of circumstances on the "behind the glass" issue. One day (about three months ago), the only really helpful electronics guy at my kmart was searching through the rows of games behind the glass for me when the store manager walked over. The manager asked what I was searching for and then said to the employee "Well just let him look." The employee said "That's ok?" and the manager said "Absolutely." However, since then, no one has been willing to let me flip through the games behind the glass. They claim that this is not permitted.

As a result of this, I have two question for kaydigi. First, are customers really not permitted to look through the rows of games once the employee unlocks the glass doors, and Second, can the CSRs do a UPC inventory search for games just as they have done for TVs? Thanks in advance.

I bought WWE Smackdown vs Raw and Enemy Territory Quake Wars for $4.97 each at Kmart last week. Not really interested in either but hard to pass up a PS3 game for 5 bucks. Had to laugh when I saw ET:QW at FYE for $59.99 later that day.

I've never understood that. Sears employees have no problems with me looking inside the glass myself. I've had one Kmart employee let me look inside the class for clearance games and that's it. It's kind of annoying when they don't let you look though. It makes no sense really. They are there watching you. What are we going to do? Put a game in our sleeves?

Man, this is usually the only way I can find stuff. My 2 nearest stores always let me flip through the cases myself, they just stay in the area while I browse so they can relock the cabinet as soon as I'm finished.

I had one clerk try to tell me I couldn't look once and was "too busy" to help me search. I asked him if he could page someone who could help me; that snapped him out of it and he ended up fetching the cabinet keys and helping me find a ton of stuff.

I think it's just apathy. If they try to shrug you off, just keep asking (nicely) and don't be afraid to escalate (nicely). Also, if they let you do your own rummaging, remember to straighten the cabinet up afterwards - don't just leave a mess for them to clean.

I'm offsite halfway across the state today; probably gonna try to hit a couple of out of the way stores on the way back home. Wish me luck gang. :D

Finally, someone who knows how to treat the staff. Listen to this guy gang, being nice, even when someone is being rude to you will always get you farther than being a dbag back.

That's kinda funny considering one of my local k-marts has issues with employees stealing games then resealing and putting them back into the glass case. I'm willing to bet that employees steal games more often from behind the glass cases than customers do..

I'm always very polite to the staff, no matter where I am (stores, restaurantes, etc.) the problem is that you cannot politely escalate a matter with a 16 year old girl who has absolutely no desire to be there in the first place. lol.

The guy who is always helpful is a little older than the girl (maybe 25) and seems to like working there so it is much easier to get him to assist me than the other regular employees: (the 16 year old girl, the 100 year old lady, and the completely unattended electronics desk.)

I've been able to get inventory checks with UPC by phone, but I swear they are never able to do it in person. Some of the employees have been trained on it, but it's a minority.

Sears & Kmart can both learn a major lesson in terms of displaying product. If I could find half of the stuff that I come into those stores looking for they would get my money much more often. Instead I go there with confirmed inventory, spend too much time looking for it and go away disappointed. That's not a good way to get customers to come back. Whomever runs those franchises must be asleep at the wheel.

Can we please get an updated OP. It hasn't been updated in like 3 months and there are no drops in the last couple pages. Also I know what the games are because I keep up with the thread but it's nice to have an up to date OP so I can look at it before I goto KMart. (I dont have a fancy internet phone to look at while im in the store). What's the deal?

how do you make a upc sheet to scan at the price scanner when you get there? i hate making the employees do it all for me. There are tons of games on the op that are at my kmart, like lost planet but when i had an employee scan it it came up 19.99 i wanted to make a upc sheet so i could check the prices first then just go ask for all the ones i am sure i want.

Bredbu, to get the UPC number: google the product and upc # or try half.com.

Then go to upcdata.info, click on the barcode generator tab, paste that UPC number in and click the button. Then copy the generated UPC barcode and paste it into a Word Doc.

Go to Amazon or Half.com and look up the games you want to price check, find the UPC # for them, then go to UPCdatabase.com and find the option to put in the UPC# to make a printable barcode for them.

Then assemble them on a upc sheet and there you go.

I actually make mine into a UPC flip book. In fact, I have flip books for KMart, Target and Sears. I may have to switch to sheets since my books (especially my Target one) are starting to resemble novels .

My experience has always varied depending on the employee. One of my local Kmarts has a employee thats a pleasure to ask for help and just chat and joke with. He'll let me rummage all I want, he just stays to watch me.

On the other hand, a woman who works there won't even let me hold more than one game at a time from the case when just reading the back. I was deciding between two games once comparing, and she would pull the first back out of my hand when I asked to see the second.

Hey guys - First off, please let me apologize for the poor shopping experience you have had at Kmart. I was recently hired as the Sears/Kmart Senior Video Game Buyer last Summer and am working very hard to make our offers compelling, I hope you have seen improvement, and fix our instore experience which I know leaves much to be desired. I've been a hard core gamer for over 20 years and though it will take some time to fix our business, my team and I will get there. We are implementing serious changes to our merchandising strategy this Summer and hope it solves many of the issues that you all are referencing. In the meantime, thank you for your patience and feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] if you ever have any issues trying to purchase a game or if you just have ideas that you would like to see implemented.

I have made lists plenty of times thanks for the advice, it's just that it gets confusing which games are at Kmart, which games are at sears, and which ones are at target. I'm not saying it needs to be updated all the time (I know you like 2 monthes or whatever) but still this is the same list since December and it's almost April.

Also to the "Kmart sales team guy" the system you got going is great don't change a thing.

That's why you write down which are for which store. It doesn't take that much extra effort to put 'Target', 'Sears' or 'Kmart' on the top of your list of clearance games you're looking for at each store.

Then again, in my area Target is a dead zone, so I only have to worry about Kmart and Sears.:D

thanks
QFT.

Honestly, and I know you're not going to want to hear this SHC-Gamer, but just about the only reason that I shop at Sears or K-Mart for games (or at all, really) is the clearance games. Otherwise, other stores have better deals, and even when they don't, their deals are no worse and they're more convenient.

As far as how to draw me in for non-clearance games:

1. Offer some good prices/sales on games. Give me better prices than Target, Best Buy, and GameStop can offer me, and my business will be more likely to come to you. If your prices are only equal to them, then honestly I'd rather shop in those stores (Target and GS are near my work, Best Buy offers the Reward Zone incentive). That being said, I buy a majority of my new, non-clearance games from Amazon, so you'll really have to compete with them too.

2. ON-LINE INVENTORY CHECK. That's a big one -- give me a way to go to your website and see if your store has something in stock before I go there. Bonus points if you can make sure that it actually stays up-to-date. The selection is too spotty in the stores for me to make a trip on the speculation that you might have a game that I'm looking for, and I don't want to have to call and deal with an employee who may or may not have any idea what I'm talking about, and may or may not give me a correct answer.

3. Have some actual employees in the electronics department, or at least make sure that other employees have a clue about how the electronics department works. I've walked out of both Sears and KMart stores without buying anything in the past because I couldn't find anyone who was actually able to open the game case for me. Get electronics employees who have a clue. One time in Sears I had a guy who was allegedly an electronics employee fumble with a set of keys for ten minutes before telling me that he couldn't open the case and that I'd have to come back later (wtf?).

4. Keep your stock on the floor, not in the back room. I mean, seriously, that one should be a no-brainer -- if I don't know that you have it, how am I supposed to know that I can buy it?

5. Keep the clearance games coming. I say this because at least one Sears around here seems to have completely eliminated the clearance games. They did a big clean-out of their case last fall, and shipped all of the non-current games . . . somewhere. They didn't even seem to know where they were going. Since then, they haven't had a single clearance game, and they seem to clean the case out on a regular basis, because games that are going to be going on clearance disappear before the clearance starts.

Here's the thing -- clearance games are the main reason why I set foot in these stores, but I'm more likely to buy other things (non-clearance games or otherwise) from them while I'm there looking for clearance games. No clearance games means, more often than not, that I don't bother going. So for me, at least, clearance games mean the difference between whether you see other business from me or not.

Can kmart/SH offer limited preorder bonuses or trade-in bonuses like Gamestop?
yeah, tax is not something kmart can avoid.

and they probably dont sell enough videogames to warrant a limited preorder bonus.

What Kmart/Sears needs to do is perhaps hire some people who don't think helping someone in electronics is like pulling teeth.

Then again, we're all in a catch-22. If Kmart improves, we get a better buying experience. But if they improve, we don't get any more clearance games.

Obviously most of you have no clue what a buyer does and is responsible for - most of what you listed are not things that can be changed or fixed by a buyer... They can ask or hope for them, but the majority of Kmarts issues are in their Operations department, not their merchandising department. Of what I've seen I think the only one the buyer could effect is preorder bonuses - but those are likely linked to buying certain quantities from a publisher on their initial, most likely quantities that Kmarts sales do not justify.

Hey all.

Sorry if this was already posted but I didn't see anything in the last several pages.

All of the Kmart stores in SE Michigan have an additional 50% off already clearanced toys.
I saw some decent things at the one I stopped at yesterday.
Star Wars, Wolverine Origins, GI Joe, WWE, Matchbox/Hot Wheels sets, etc.

I grabbed the following for my son's bday:
- a few 1:24 scale Monster Jam trucks. They were $4.xx each (normally around $11).
- GI Joe Movie Accelerator Suit Duke for $12 (normally $50+?)
- several WWE figures or $3.xx

There was a clearance aisle near the far end of the toy aisle as well as clearance items scattered throughout every aisle in the entire toy section.

Again, sorry if a repost.

EDIT: Just want to note I can confirm this is at several stores throughout SE Michigan as friends have also seen this deal. So my label of "all" may not be entirely true.

I'm well aware of what a buyer does, but he said specifically that he is working to make their offers "more compelling", to "fix" their "in-store experience", and to implement "serious changes" to their "merchandising strategy" -- which means that either 1) he's been given a lot more power than a normal buyer has, 2) he has the direct ear of someone who has that power, or 3) he's blowing smoke. Either way, he asked for ideas, and I offered them. He can do with them as he wants from there.
keep not labeling clearance games

thanks
^^^ this ^^^ it's the only way you will be able to find the few copies that make it to clearance ... for those that moan about disorganized stores ... wait until they do, then you will be hard pressed to find a thing ... funny, but true ...

To the new buyer, change the planogram for electronics see if you can get upper management to approve moving it by customer service that is staffed at all ours ( I know store are suffering with payroll restraints) ... then move as many titles as possible (if not all using security covers) from behind locked quarters ...
... and did you know some stores stock all their consoles back in layaway???? not even one unit on display ... pm me for specific locations...

and if you have a blowout deal on a game (ie JC2) ... make sure you have ample stock on hand for the first day and the ability to overnight additional stock if necessary (nothing will piss off your "newly" enticed customers more ...

and carry strat guides ...

Hey Guys - Thanks for the feedback. In response to the statements above, yes I am the principal offer generator and responsible for store execution and merchandising. More than anything though, I want to make the customer experience better and who better to ask than gamers themselves.

To arcane93 in particular please email directly at [email protected] as you gave awesome feedback and I'd like to give you my direct phone number as well as give some context on our plans and pulse check you on offers in the future.

My biggest complaint is that the games behind the glass case are randomly mixed together, with stacks behind other stacks. I can never find anyone to open the case so that I can see what's back there. I just want them organized, and maybe a button back there to press to alert CS that someone needs assistance.

If sales are advertised in the weekly flyer that are better than competitor's sales, then I will definitely come to K-mart more often. At least one awesome deal a week should be advertised on an item that's sufficiently stocked.

Like the rest of us, the only reason I shop at Kmart is because of the clearance prices on video games, and other merchandise. Kmart has some fantastic deals on clothing, toys and video games when you buy at the right time. First of all, let me say that you could implement a strategy like Walmart is doing right now get rid of the locked up cases and put games in security boxes. Many Kmart's have video games sitting and sitting in the back of those locked up cases and the customer cannot access them because there is no employee there, the employee cannot find the key, the case cannot be opened for whatever reason, or because the employee is just lazy and does not feel like opening the case and letting the customer see inside of it. Getting rid of the locked case is crucial, consumers are impatient and if its taking more than 5 min to get the locked up game out of the case, we will go elsewhere. In my Walmart, since they have gotten rid of the locked cases you can just grab a game in a security box and have the box removed at the register allowing the customer to grab and go and continue with the rest of their shopping. Customers want a quick, easy experience with as little hassle as possible when buying video games. Having to find an employee, having to have the employee get the keys (or find the employee that has the keys), finding the game in the case and then finally getting to the register takes too much time. In the time that it takes to complete this process I could drive to walmart, park, grab a game and pay for it and be out of there. If the customer cannot get access to the games, we cannot buy them.

Also, please fix the fact that at many Kmart locations, including mine there is only one cashier and massive lines at many times. Also, please fix the fact that it takes forever to get a price check or a price change because something is ringing up in the system wrong. Often it is an ad item that rings up wrong and the register employee still has to send for a supervisor to approve an override no matter how small the amount. This takes a long time and causes massive bottlenecks in the lines especially when 2-3 customers in each line each have a price check or some other price discrepency. Seriously, override sheets which they still use in my Kmart are so 1980's. I have not experienced this at any other retail store recently, only Kmart. Other stores like Walmart and Target approve small price discrepency's instantly at the register.

Bring back price matching! If Kmart were to price match other competitor's ads like they used to, then I would be MUCH MUCH more likely to shop there for video games and other things.

Having games in stock would help as well, many times I have been to Kmart, only to find the new release game is not on the shelves when the ad says it will be. This happened last summer with Wii Sports Resort. The game was not in on release day (or at least not on the shelves). If you want video game sales, its very important to have games listed in the ads in stock! Usually stores around here don't run out of the latest game on day 1, so having ample stock shouldn't be a problem as long as you stock a reasonable amount of the game.

I actually have seen a very slow but consistent improvement over the last 2 years. Although your always understaffed, the people I come into contact with (5 stores in my town) are not turning over, know what they are doing, and are pleasant. Your parking lot is growing, and your on the right track (previous customer service and HR manager in me can't help but notice these things)
Those specially marked $9.99 PSP games were pretty sweet last year (I got Little Big Planet and Gran Turismo). I think you guys should import more games from Canada. :bouncy:

I don't normally buy games at K-Mart because I can never find anyone in electronics to help me or remove a game from the glass case.

It would be nice if older games were actually discounted. The fact that there are still a lot of Gamecube, XBox, and PS2 games still being sold at a high price doesn't help things.

Even games from current systems which are several years old haven't been marked down. Some titles have been discounted at almost every other store yet K-Mart holds the high price point.

It would also be nice if games that were put on clearance at Sears would also be marked down at K-Mart.

Also, if games are going to be locked up behind glass, it would be helpful if the prices were somehow shown. Or kept up to date.

Here's the most important thing you can do ...

Make sure the employees are able to open the cases and that they don't have an attitude. I was at one Kmart and wanted something out of a case that had a broken lock. The employee told me that I couldn't buy what I wanted because the lock was broken. It had been that way for months apparently. I asked if there was anything he could do. He replied, "I could smash the glass but I don't want to pay $4000 to replace it."
