[SIZE=+1]Three important notes[/SIZE] (please read these before posting questions):

[SIZE=+1]1)[/SIZE] Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

[SIZE=+1]2)[/SIZE] Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: chttp://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way).

Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

I don't understand why a business would do this. What, they don't want their customers to know the prices? Do they not want to sell clearance games? This thread is essentially free advertising for them. It makes no sense for them to do this, and only increases the chances that games will make it to the really low clearance prices. Nice job K-mart, way to have no clue how to run a business.

THIS. Perhaps our new Kmart insider can make some sense of this nonsense. If a game, television or camera has hit clearance because it has not sold as of yet, why wouldn't the store want people to purchase it?

Absent some sort of buy back on the back end where the supplier has to pay a percentage for unsold merchandise, this makes no sense to me.

I agree this is a problem, at both Sears and KMart this month, games I were interested in buying were in the back room. At Sears after they punched a UPC into the register and saw it wasn't on the floor they went to the back to get it and at KMart the employee saw I had a list and offer to go look in the back for me since he said all older games are kept in the back room.

If I hadn't given them the UPC at Sears and they went to the back room and the guy had not offered to check the back room at KMart, I would have walked out of both stores without buying anything.

The problem is most employees are not going to be willing to check the back room since it is time consuming. All games need to be out on the sales floor.

Exactly. I can understand why they wouldn't want employees leaking prices from upcoming sale ads, maybe, since that also tips off the competition, but in terms of clearance items, it makes no sense at all. Why wouldn't they want us to know what items are going on clearance? Isn't the whole point to clearance to get merchandise off the shelf that's not selling otherwise? Really, Kmart, you shouldn't be threatening employees like Kay who pass on this info, you should be thanking them for going above and beyond in helping you get the word out and sell these things.
 
Maybe they don't want clearance published because they're worried potential customers will come in, trying to find an amazing TV deal and failing at finding the deal, and then just being pissed off and not shopping in their store.

Who knows why.

Kmart staff with lil pay are made to sign a number of documents that put their respective jobs on the line ...

price matching document (staff and management have mentioned this to me more than once in fear of losing their jobs...)

now the internet posting document ... :roll: sheesh manage those needing employment with fear and mistrust ... is it any wonder these are the most unfriendly stores I ( now rarely) shop?

you really want to improve the stores ? work for one week (day, night & weekend!) shifts in what you consider a successful location, an average location and one that you consider bottom of the barrel ... in those three weeks you will have the absolute best info at your disposal for success to implement before the next holiday season ...

Do not send assistants to be your eyes and ears, go yourself as nothing will be lost in translation or held back due to said assistants responsibilities ...

This is definitely a problem, and thanks for all your hard work Kay. A couple Sears stores here removed all of their clearance games recently, and there were a lot of games there. We can't buy the stuff if we don't know its in stock. I don't think its realistic to think that some hoarder came in and bought them all, because many of them were selling for less online than they were in the store even on clearance. I don't know where those games went other than the back room. I was told that one store here had a ton of stuff in the back room and that I should ask for it if I want to buy it. If theft is that much of a problem its not like they couldn't shove a few more games into the glass case.

A couple more things:

I think Kmart did really well during the holidays here. They had staffed registers and products listed in the ad were in stock even after the shelves were empty from the previous week. However it did not last and Kmart has gone back to its ways of one cashier and ad products not being in stock.

Sears is a really good store and they always have enough employees around, but sometimes the attitude of the employees is a problem. Many times they are unwilling to help and will ignore customers standing by the glass case who clearly want to buy something from it. Sears could also use another structure for the game cases, as everything is piled in them. Over here there are games sitting on top of games with no way to view what is underneath the first row of games. This becomes a problem when the employees don't let the customer look through the case. Apparently the customer is supposed to know exactly what game they want before they look through the case, we should be able to browse to see what is in stock too. Its also incredibly inconvienient for an employee to have to move a whole stack of games which might be 50 or more games just to see one that is on the bottom of the pile. I can see why they would be fed up if they had to move a ton of games every time a customer came in wanting to buy a game just so the customer could see what is in stock.

The scanners in Sears do not work. The ones in Kmart are fine. The Sears ones just seem to constantly lock up and not work. When touching the screen or going near the scanner they seem to feel very hot.

if you have too many games and not enough space.... that's what clearance is for.
 
Question:

I am looking to take advantage of the $10 off coupon. I am purchasing two of the same items, both are $20 each, can I ask the cashier to ring up the first item and use the coupon followed by ringing up the next item and using the same coupon?

The only things I'd like to see make a comeback is clearance prices on the website for games and reasonable shipping prices from the website. They had it several years ago on games that were on clearance(but out of stock locally)in stores. Although, as a business I understand that you guys are out to make the most while not really having to clearance stuff. But if it's older stock that's not moving anyway, why not dump it in favor of newer stuff?

As was already mentioned, they don't want competitors to get wind of their pricing, which I can understand completely. But we as a community definitely need another source for info, since I have a feeling that many who keep track of this thread aren't quite as willing(or able with the snippy employees)to have bunches of stuff price checked to compile clearance lists.

I'm just as sad as everyone else to see that kay can no longer be our source. Thanks for all of the updates while you were able to give them, kay. :cry:

Thanks for everything you've done Kay! You didn't have to do what you did, but we all appreciated it very much (and I hope this doesn't come back to haunt you).

As much as I love CAG, this site is a few more instances away from becoming a total "PM me for deal" site (which may or may not be a good thing).

I recommend in the future we (including myself) should refrain from posting negative comments about a particular store or deal. As much as I hate the saying: "It is what it is." A store doesn't have a good deal, don't buy it. A store is littered and junky, call their 1-800 number or call the store directly. Me posting that a deal or store sucks, etc., only clutters these pages and do not contribute one thing to the website. Emails and posts leave paper trails which one can easily follow if one (a company) is so inclined.

Like I've said before, they (retailers) are all over this site and others like SD (and not just lurking). Some are actual Gamers looking for deals, while others to gather information on potential mistakes by their company.

Remember, most of the time it is actual employees (in store or in corporate) that gives us the "heads up" on deals. Employees like Kay are putting their jobs/livelihood (especially in this economy) on the line in order to get us information that they could easily keep for themselves.

Good luck to you Kay! I hope you continue to be a follower of CAG even though you won't be posting anything work related. We will always value your input! :)

One way to continue to find out updates is those who have stores that correctly tag games post what they saw that are new to clearance.
 
Its harder to figure out the clearance with TV's and the stuff that is behind the counter than it is to with games. Its really not hard to figure out what stuff might be on sale with games or toys if you watch the store frequently. Pretty much anything that is older will eventually be on clearance. Kmart has a lot of merchandise that just sits there so if you are shopping there regularly it really isn't that hard to figure out. Most toys are dated with a year at least so the ones that have years of like 2008-2099 are probably on clearance now. With games if its yellow tagged at one store chances are it will be dropping in price further, so once you know its on clearance, all you have to do is watch that particular game. Older current gen games are a prime target of clearance though I can't comment on why some older games (PS2/Xbox) are still high priced at some Kmart stores. Sometimes I just think they might reprice them up to the sticker price if they somehow are doing inventory and realize the games are out of the system.

Yes, this. Though you'll need to find some way to make sure that the staff of the store think that you're just a regular store employee like them. If they know you're corporate, they will be on better behavior around you than they would be otherwise, and you won't gain any real insight.

Ok, you're right, we don't know, and I was speaking based on speculation rather than knowledge (and was well aware of that, thanks) -- but honestly, the timing is a bit too convenient, and it's certainly understandable why she'd want to cover her ass. The assumed cause is of course inferred from those circumstances, but that's because, with no other info available, there's a very high probability that it's the reason.

Anyway, assuming that this is the case, I still think that getting official sanction for posting the clearance info here (or at least a guarantee that no one will get fired or reprimanded for doing it) would be the smart thing for our new Kmart rep to do -- particularly if he wants to be on our good sides and get information and help from us.
