Rather than make changes below and have new stuff get lost amongst the really old clearance prices, I'm just making a new list up top but keeping the old list below. Who knows, you might still find something tagged with the prices in the older list so it's worth keeping around. Most of the current list is here thanks to kaydigi.

OK, here's the latest Kmart clearance thread.

Three important notes (please read these before posting questions):

1) Most of the prices listed below will not be shown on the games at any given Kmart. Chances are if you can find them they will ring up at one of the clearance prices listed. The best way to check it is to bring a UPC sheet with you and use the floor scanners to verify the pricing before you ask the Kmart associate to open the case.

2) Kmart price drops are generally national in scope. However, each store must process the price drops individually. While the price drops originate from corporate, different stores have wildly different ways of dealing with them. Some will implement them immediately, some weeks later, and some, it seems, never. Also, there are occasional glitches in the pricing where a game that is otherwise on clearance will ring up at full price at certain stores.

3) These prices will not show up on the kmart.com web site. Don't even bother.

Old list:
Explanation of pricing list

OK, on to the prices...

The wonderful thing about Kmart is that they combine dirt-cheap clearance pricing with a general lack of organization. Thus CAGs in the know, hopefully using info from this thread, can find some amazing deals.

First off, here's the UPC database list as created by Slash and updated by MightySlacker: chttp://kmart.slashbunny.com/. Use this to verify pricing in your local Kmart.

The prices are organized alphabetically and by system (thanks again to ShiningSlade for starting it off this way).

Since the exact pricing is so YMMV, and many games ring up at 2 or 3 different clearance prices I will list all of these separated by slashes, with the cheapest first. For example: Psychonauts $3/$14/$24. I am also adding a bit to the color coding - see below:

Color Scheme
New additions verified by CAGs
New additions reported by one member (needs verification)
90% off games (the lowest they will go before they drop out)
* - Denotes original Xbox games playable on the Xbox 360
(spoiler tag messes up colors so just ignore all this ;)).

and finally...

Arn't we kinda bothering SHC here? the last like 50 comments are just asking him questions lol...but seriously I appreciate what youre doing for us SHC.

On another note...I went to KMart today and asked the electronics worker whether they had Bourne Conspiracy in stock. He looked at me having obviously never heard of the game. I told him it was about 1-2 year old and I saw one for 10 bucks last week. He said that it probably was shipped back to corporate. I wasnt satisfied...so I asked him to open the case. BAM....around 10-15 copies in the back of the case where noone could see them. The thing that I would recommend SHC...is some sort of system to check whether the store HAS it in stock. Does Kmart actually not have this??? the last couple of times Ive asked them to check their stock they told me they cant actually see how many of anything they have in stock...

I've had no issues having employees check if something is in stock as long as I supply them with the UPC I'm looking for. I even had two employees print out a slip that told me what stores in the area had it and how many copies each had.
Starting on 4/11 Resonance of Fate will be on sale for $37.99, reg. $59.99 and I will be marking down Star Trek Online to $29.99, reg. 49.99.

The only problem with the sale on Resonance of Fate is actually finding copies. How many copies per store do you you''ll get?
No problem; everything should pop up automatically. Everyone can partcipate in the deal if they were to buy the game, I am just advertising it here and no where else.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I only ask because in the past, I have always had to bring in a flyer to adjust the price in-store.

Going forward, will we still have to bring in the flyer to match the prices per the weekly ad?

great price on ROF but will stores receive more than the 2-3 copies (ie Just Cause 2? ... the three "somewhat" close stores in my metro area only received this amount...and the Sears locations received zero)
I love this question personally as it can be really confusing.

Sears and Kmart have two dramatically different strategies in title selection, offers and overall business approach.

To add on top of that, though the same team works on both formats, the systems to calculate these strategies are very different and can lead to varying degrees of difference.
Thanks for the quick reply. Maybe looking over the Sears clearance list can give you a few ideas of titles to add to the KMart clearance schedule (hint, F1 Championship Edition, hint) :)
Do you have the KSN # for the one on clearance or where were you able to find its model #? Which letter? Thanks.
Didn't actually find the clearance model, I found the discounted one just like you. The way I found their model numbers was by checking on the side with its price tag. I'll be sure to check the next time I stop by.
From a business perspective you better find a way to bust them up, because I highly doubt they will ever sell
From a business perspective, if parents are willing to pay $20 for shovelware on the wii, they'll be paying $30 for two whole games no problem. I'm sure if they stop selling, they'll discount or seperate them, but I can't imagine it happening otherwise.

 your cagness (and info posted here) helped to locate the discounted copies, how many copies/title...ask yourself if you would have found this deal if they were front and center marked $9.99?
times will be a changin in very short order ... amazing only a couple members have commented on this fact ...
It takes me forever to go through all the disorganized games, and then none of them have the right prices on them!!!!! It's been said before and I'll say it again now. If stuff was marked right, the normal shnooks would be buying up everything before it reaches that ever elusive 90% off mark. When you want a deal though, you are going to have to hunt for it, which means digging through disorganized games by the pileful even if it takes an hour to do so.

If you're too impatient(or lazy) to do so, then you don't deserve any of the deals. You have to want to work for the deals.
CheapestGamer up there has the right idea -- and give me one of your copies of Xblades. ;)
I only picked up a personal copy for the PS3, but I do know which local Kmarts have it for the 360 and PS3 still. If I had had the extra cash, I would've just bought up everything and been offering them up on CAG by now, but I hate being stuck with extra games I'm not either playing or selling to others.

We've received a couple copies, and for both systems. I can't speak for the podunk Kmarts out there though (nor any other than my own).

And I honestly think PC Games are something Kmart shouldn't be handling until the gaming cases are in order and there's room for a larger selection. Having a single PC game in the entire area's slightly ridiculous, especially one that wasn't given good reviews (I hope it was bought at a good price).

well, I would think that the couple copies you received made a couple customers happy, but that many were not happy that so lil stock was ordered ...

and you have a valid point on the pc game but Amazon is already in that price range plus that title's been out a while ...perhaps this part of the sale is to move already bought inventory ...

True, with the UPC you CAN check if theyre in stock, but I mean besides us CAGs, which person will randomly carry the UPC to the game they are looking for? I guess it wouldn't be THAT uncommon, but the ability to check if somethings in stock just with the name is better...Target does this as well no UPC needed.

The copies of RoF haven't sold, still sitting on the shelf waiting for some intelligent PS3 owners to come by.

And yeah, the drop in price is in response to Amazon, and Best Buy, and Gamestop, and likely nearly every other retailer who deals in PC games. The fact that Kmart chose such a horrible title to relaunch into that market scares me.

"Guys, we're going to buy Star Trek!", "I heard it'll be great!"
"Excellent Tim, let's buy copies for every store, it's STAR TREK!!"
"How much did we pay for them...$5 above sale price(I've no idea (and it's a joke))...Whatever they'll sell, it's STAR TREK!!"

They should choose better titles, who cares about profits if you're just entering into the market. Best to get word out that you actually carry PC Games instead of hoping to trick someone into buying it thinking it's a Wii title.

le sigh
ahh, I was referring to only having 2-3 copies of JCause 2 for last week's sale ...
Yeah, it was stupid, and we had the same...None sold as well.

Kmart's problem in the game sales department stems from the fact that they haven't separated themselves from retailers like GS...Absolutely nothing sparks my thought process (when shopping for games(and with employee discount)) to go to Kmart.

However, that being said, if what our representative said is true, and RoF is going on sale (likely in part to poor sales figures) in the next coming weeks...Then they may be on to something.

The best strategy for Kmart is to start throwing out some loss-leaders and actually get people in the door to buy products. I honestly think Kmart will fizzle and die on their current course. They need to take some risks. Show some initiative to turn Wal-Mart's bad press against them (even though both companies pretty much have the same strategy :D).

"Oh, note to SHC!" Definitely keep up the Little Ceasar's deals! (if you have any control or say in the issue) The employee discount's absolutely amazing coupled with that, and it DEFINITELY brings people in. I see more people looking at games because they're waiting on a pizza, than people just stopping in to look at games (the truth hurts).

Well said. I can only hope that someone can alert us to clearance prices before they hit the clearance section. I guess we will be able to get clearance games easier but at higher prices once they get stuff all organized, it will be like TRU. If Kmart had a loyalty program that let members know of clearance prices ahead of time I might sign up. $15 a year, exclusive coupons, free magazine subscription to the relaunched EGM...

Will the sale price on Resonance of Fate include both platforms? I would assume so, but I wanted to ask just in case. Thanks for the heads up & the price...I will definitely be picking the game up *crosses fingers the game will be in stock*

Thanks, you rule. I don't know if I'll be able to view that part at my store, but I'll look.

Making your "Shop Your Way Rewards" program better would be my suggestion. At Bestbuy, you waste $250, and you get a $5 GC. With you guys, I get $2.50.

Also, if you waste over $2500 dollars in a year, you get platinum status and that makes you get better offers. You should treat your repeat customers, better.

Video games have very low mark-up. Even if K-Mart could get people in the door with video games, what is that demographic going to buy from K-Mart that they actually make a nice profit on? Martha Stewart bedding? One of the main reasons why Best Buy is successful is they bring people in with their good deals on games, music, computers, and TVs, then make their money on service plans, warranties, and financing. K-Mart really has no initiative to try to become competitive in video games, they're not direct competitors with Gamestop and Best Buy. K-Mart is competing with Wal*Mart and Target, where the profit margins on all of their items are low already. K-Mart's money is only going to come on selling everything they have in volume. So they have to be competitive with Wal*Mart and Target with everyday things consumers want; which they aren't. K-Mart tried to be Target in the 90's and it ran them into the ground.

I seem to remember hearing that a store like Kmart buys a game from the distributor for $45, and sells it for $50. Not a high profit margin.
I seem to remember hearing that a store like Kmart buys a game from the distributor for $45, and sells it for $50. Not a high profit margin.
My wife's little brother works at Best Buy and his discount is 5% over cost. Games are roughly $52 for him before tax which means it cost Best Buy $50 on something they sell for $59.99. You figure in all the overheard and they aren't making much. However, they make a killing off of warranties, services, and credit. And appliances.

SHC implied, unless I am reading into one of his first posts wrong, that its part of his job to get stagnant games off the shelves. I would assume that this is because this inventory essential is a liability on the corporate balance sheets and has already been depreciated to the point where they can clear it off, get it off the books, and make their current financial situation look better. In a perfect world for K-Mart, which is what a lot of people have been saying is the negative effect of having games clearly marked and organized, is that they get rid of the inventory they have financially given up on as quickly as possible.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma's still $30.. Did I miss a price drop somewhere?
Hello - I show Ninja Gaiden Sigma as $19.99 in our systems.
I take back my entire rant, even though it was well-written. ~cough~ I'll say this in its place.

Instead of wasting time looking into incidents like the above (not that it is a complete waste), look into fixing the source of the problem...If I can manage to do my job, while making the electronics department look flawless (when it isn't even what I'm there to do (I was even told not to do what I've done, yet no one complains now)), then you can come up with a plan to make them all look nice. From my experience...attempt shuffling the shelves around, or adding smaller ones, there's more than enough space. It's just used horribly wrong.

Another hint, instead of using layouts to feature most of your case (25-30 games), use them to only feature 15-20 or so, and leave the rest of the space to the electronics department to decide on (Flex). Honestly, I'd have the thing looking damn good if I could move it around. Instead I'm stuck with a display case with $20 titles like Hannah Montana.

Also, alphabetizing should be mandatory. It's a "display" case.

Same goes for the movie section, what a wreck. I've talked with the rep from the company who manages it, she told me that their company alphabetizes the wall...Yet 300 is after 10,000 B.C. Chronologically, the company has its beans in a row, however they're stupidly wrong. Unlike the game case, the movie wall should have no flex, all alphabetized (with newer/popular releases featured in alphabetical order) with the large portion, including most of the movie archive lined up.

I feel like an idiot when I tell customers, "I haven't seen that movie here, try Best Buy or Hollywood Video (hell, I'll even call the stores(less of an inconvenience than searching through our mess of a selection))" because our movies have no order, and unlike the case, I can't organize them. The layouts work fine for the middle isles (those four-sided pylon things), even though they look tacky, but the wall(s) should be organized.

And yes, I've betrayed nearby CAGers, and myself, with my position, as I help(ed) oust many clearance games from their dark corners. I honestly want to see the company do well, but the company so-far has done little to help itself.
You're a smart man;

I'd say in response two things,

First, individual issues definitely are the smoke to the macro fire. Each customer that shops our stores is valuable and I will definitely ensure that any issues that come up are addressed. In the same way however, you are completely right, my particular job is to find the source of the issue and address it. It is this type of change that while absolutely neccessary takes a lot of planning and involvement of various teams to pull off. I can't wait for the day that all of our plans come to fruition and I'll be able to reference you all as a meaningful part of our change.

Second, what if I told you that at least from a planning perspective that is exactly what we do in reference to your merchandising strategy:)

We POG only a particular space in the fixture and allow the stores the bottom rows to flex product due to individual inventory levels. It is definitely supposed to alphabetized (in the movie section as well). Beyond spending time in the stores, if there is one thing this forum has shown me is that there is a major disconnect between the direction we are giving and the execution piece. This is definitely not the stores fault, I need to find a way to make our plans easy to utilize and update and provide clearer direction on why we ask what we ask.

Thanks!

No bother at all; though I am having a little difficulty keeping up :)

You're comment on Bourne Conspiracy actually made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.....this is not the way it is supposed to be.

An associate should be able to look up any title within our system and check the inventory; I can do it from my desk, they should be able to do it with their scanner.

There is a store near me that has a bunch of random GBA games that are either overpriced or probably out of the system by now. Games like B-daman that were out many years ago. These should definitely be clearance or re-priced at an appropriate price if they are not in the system anymore. No one should be paying 29.99 for a mediocre GBA game, the system is long dead for retail shelves at least. These games should definitely be 9.99 or less.

We aren't able to unless we have access to the UPC. This goes for all items in the store as well...If we've access to the back room. We are able to use Kmart's wonderful 1980s IBM inventory system to check for the item by name, but that also requires management to at least care about the customer and want to spend their time.

There are so many pitfalls to finding items in our store(s?), unless you've the UPC, it's ridiculous. The fact that I encourage myself to send customers to competitors (while calling them to check their inventory) because of management's lack of motivation is also ridiculous. I'm not saying that all of my managers are lazy, or uncaring. But only 2ish out of the 5 or so will spend the time on customers. The others are either too emotionally unstable (vent at employees/give ridiculous glares), or plainly uncaring.

I find it somewhat humorous, but I believe Kmart's problem is unfix-able with their current employees and policies. Kmart's at the point in their business where every customer scared away is a lost customer. Meaning, Kmart is so far down on the list of stores, that before that customer returns (because they're angry at Wal-Mart and/or Target for some reason) our stores will be closed. Profit margins are great, but the stores need more customers to generate them. I see employees scaring customers off with ridiculous customer service issues constantly, and that too is ridiculous.

I just think the company needs a complete overhaul. And offering better rates on their credit cards isn't the answer either :D Heavily advertising layaway while, improving the rewards card (3-5% would be spectacular), store appearance/organization, and customer relations, would save the company. Hell, take the generic American Fare/Essential Home brands, combine them into American Fare, and then obligate the companies producing them to do so in the states. Raise the prices on those items, take a small profit/loss, but get people in the door by offering something Wal-Mart/Target are too scared to do...American Made Products ~gasp~

Oh, and having one employee (me) running the entire back-end of a store's ridiculous. I'm not saying I'm overworked...Appearances...

Wow, it looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. I had no idea we had this SHC guy here... Hey, I should dig up my game return story from last year. Basically, I tried to return some clearance games within the 90 day limit (as clearly stated on the receipt) and had the customer service rep argue with me that it didn't apply to Electronics and that the date was wrong because of that. They pointed to the text behind the counter and on the back of the receipt which clearly (to me) stated that the 30 days only applied to air conditioners and gas powered equipment. They took that to mean all Electronics and I had 3 Kmart employees ganging up on me and telling me that. Finally, after consulting with the store manager, they did it "as an exception". But what should have taken 2 minutes took 20 or more and left me infuriated. I was particularly appalled that the store manager didn't know policy and straighten her out. Then when I bought some more games in Electronics the lady, clearly watching me the whole time via video, called and had the clerk cross out the 90 days on my new receipt and write 30 days. I was so pissed I basically haven't gone back there much since then (well that, and the clearance stuff has sucked the last 6 months or so).

I wish we had a rep around then. I wrote to a Customer Service contact email I found on Kmart.com but of course never heard a thing back. Great CS there...

Don't do a thing. I love finding piles of cleared out games that no one knew were behind the other 30 piles that are stacked up in the edge of the cabinet :) I have one store that, literally, I can find every game on the clearance list... right behind all the new release games. There are sports games from '05 and '06 still stacked behind. One day, I'm just gonna clear out their whole case. At least I never have an issue getting someone to open the case.

The exact same thing happened to me last year. That policy needs to be more clearly written. I think it's clear, but some employees certainly don't.

haha i think Kmart/Sears guy might quit after reading this thread.

The Kmart experience can't be fixed with just better buying selection. It's horribly broken from the top down. You get some managers who give a shit. Hire employees who don't act like Randall from Clerks and you got a start. Because no matter how good the selection is, I'm going to Target instead where there are actual people in Electronics and not some dude walking by who gives you the "not my department" look.

Also, I just updated the OP with Kay's last update from March 16th. I'm aware there may be a newer one from SHC though it is buried (well, Kay's was about 20 pages back ;)). I saw some whining a ways back about the OP not being updated since Dec. Well, that was wrong as I last updated it on Jan 20th. But really, besides missing some Ener-G and Petz games for the DS the list was pretty much what Kay had except a bunch of the $14.97 games dropped to $4.97. It was hardly anything that a decent CAG couldn't have figured out (look at the OP and check games that were likely to drop since Kay said a lot of $14.97 stuff went to $4.97). Anyway, now it is all there for people from other web sites to steal. Enjoy!

I hear you. I had a guy tell me "I sell garden supplies man, I don't know nothin 'bout games" last time I was in my local Kmart. Does your expertise in garden accoutrements also give you the inability to signal someone with the key to unlock this case (regardless of what is inside)?

Hahaha

I feel like I know you, personally :D

It's retarded that I'm expected to understand Hunting, Gaming/Everything in Electronics (which I do well at), Car Engines (sorry I play games and am too lazy to repair my car), while also specializing in Layaway, Furniture, and Home Repair/Maintenance ("Do It Yourself" is a ridiculous name for a department in a store).

"Where are your Light-Bulbs, sir?"
"Oh, they're in "Do It Yourself"."
"...What's your name, sir?"
"Billy"
"I'm taking this up with the manager!"

Mmm, good design. Should have called it "Home Improvement", but Kmart probably didn't want sued by Tim Allen.
Love the loyalty program idea; I am working on this project now with our Shop Your Way Rewards team to come up with a Gamer's club.

One of the main reason's for why we are not achieving our goals is this consistent theme of poor customer interaction. If you ever have any issues at all in the future please let me know either in this forum or at [email protected].

If anyone could get there hands on the PS3 controller for me I would be VERY appreciative!

Edit: Just read up on SHC, is it possibly to check the stores around you to see if they have the clearanced out PS3 controller? I'm from Elmhurst so anything around Chicago would be perfect!

Everytime I got to KMart I feel like I'm going back in time. The store has like 30 years worth of dust on everything.

SHC, you need to be on an episode of "Undercover Boss".

I don't think it is as hopless as some are making it out to be. Some employees just need to be retrained and there needs to be an overall attitude shift within these stores. Its something that you can't do by yourself and I hope you'll be touching base with the other departments during this process. Adding more employees isn't always the answer either. One or two really good ones can make a store hum.

I know the 2-3 employees that work in the my electronics department know nothing about electronics and even LESS about games. I just can't believe they can't find someone who is pasionate about gaming/HDTVs/movies to work in these departments or at lease find someone who is willing to sink there teeth into it and learn. I would never work in a car parts store because I know nothing about it and care even less. And probably wouldn't get hired to do it becauese of it.

I think this is the best way that KMart can differentiate themselves from the competition. It's true - why go to KMart for the same stuff that's in WalMart & Target? If KMart focused on American Made products, and advertised that, I would do my shopping exclusively from that point forward at KMart only. It's like Trader Joe's - people shop there exclusively because they don't sell products with crap in it like corn syrup & trans fat. If you ever go there, the place is swamped with people at all hours, even though their prices are higher than their competition (Acme, Shop Rite, Wegmans, Weis, etc.). It's a business model that works great for them.

le sigh

Even though there's a representative present, I still feel as if all of this is falling on deaf ears.

A job is a job. I know when I worked retail (15+ years ago) I was an associate in the hardware department of Sears. I didnt know a Reciprocating saw from a Sawzall (trick question, they are the same tool). Granted, over time I learned things, but hardware is a lot more stable than video games where dozens are released every month. I had no passion for hardware, but I worked cause that was what I could find and needed money. I dont expect ppl in a department store to be knowledgeable about gaming. Hell even some of the ppl in the specialty store GS are clueless.

I just expect them to do their best, be available to open the cases, and maybe straighten up the place a bit so it doesnt look like a hurricane came though *all* the time.

But my Kmarts are fairly good, especially compared to the horror stories bandied about here.

Lol agreed! I go to K-Mart like once every two or three years and I stopped in there yesterday after I discovered this site for some bargain hunting. Man the entire store just turned me off especially the electronics section with zero employees and zero customers.

It felt like a wasteland and their game selected was probably the worst I've ever seen. Their bargain bin consisted of like 10 copies of some animated movie game and 2 copies of viva pinata for 20 bucks. Behind the glass were a bunch of games upside down/laying on their side leading to them being unreadable and me not even knowing wtf they had.

I never want to go back there.

Yep. I don't need help with games. I know what i want. But I hate the "not my department" shrug.

Just tell me you'll page someone for me and I'm happy. Any acknowledgement that you value me as a customer and I'm not just interrupting your chatting session. (That actually happens more at Sears.) The Kmart employees all seem to be doing something, even if it's not helping you. Sears employees are paid to chat with each other.
Sears employees are paid to chat with each other.
That's the truth. Seems like 75% of the time I go into one the electronics/appliances employees are mostly huddled together by the washing machines talking to each other. Then, me being the PITA I am, I go up and ask them to check a price or open the case for me.
